The legend that is Robin Van Persie retires today. Absolutely loved the man, untouchable and one of the best forwards to grace the Old Trafford turf. Oh how we could do with him now.

A truly world class striker with magnificent technique. A aesthetically pleasing footballer to watch when he was at the peak of its powers. I wish we had got him earlier and that he had been here longer. Short and sweet, but what an impact he had. Was an enjoyable season when we last won the league. Happy retirement robin you legend.

Great player who due to injury only had two seasons that statistically lived up to his talent. Without the inspired one he had at United, we would no doubt not have won our 20th league title. But for me, he always looked a little out of place in a United shirt. And while his acquisition was inspired, behind it the rot was already settling in as our best players came to the end of their careers, not to be replaced by ones with equal talent (there being no value in the market? ) . RVP's and United's success that year was obfuscatory. It was the end of an era, a final hurrah for him and SAF. Now the transition is complete. Gone also are Mourinho and Wenger, our challengers, with all that they represented being eclipsed by Klopp and Guardiola, and to some extent Pocchetino. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Disagreed with your comment shaw because this is a post celebrating Robin van Persie’s career but you’ve again dragged our current situation into it for no reason.

All the best to Robin in retirement, he was a great player, scorer of spectacular goals. I’ll never forget that header against Spain, probably the best headed goal I’ve seen.
