I watched the game and thought he was having a poor game long before he scored an own goal . Off day for the lad .
Shaps flip all that around for pogba, been one of our best players, but gets singled out regardless.

Good post shappy. I think the problem is people judge players on one game. It is unfortunately an epidemic of modern fans. I thought he was solid yesterday. He would also be my first choice option for RB. Think he would a fantastic addition.

Good report shappy.
I get what you are saying. But the caveat is that he scored a very poor and easily avoidable own goal. It want misfortune it was really poor play going for a ball the keeper had covered with a huge technical blunder going with the wrong foot.
When a defender screws up in the defining moment of the game it will be determined he had a bad game despite what happened for the rest of it. It was the defining moment and he was the villain of the moment.
Very much like when a striker scores a couple but losses possession a dozen times in the 90 mins. He will be remembered for his actions in the defining moments when he scored.
He was caught out a few times but recovered really well and got back to make some important tackles.
Last night he had a poor game because he was at fault for the goal. But goals like that won't happen often it was a bit freaky but in the end cost them the result.
Take that moment out of the game he did quite well. But take that moment out of the game and england wouldn't have lost. Sadly you can't cancel out moments. So on this occasion the overriding memory will be that moment when he got it all wrong.
Good player made a bad mistake it happens. He is too good not to bounce back.

Good post Shappy. I thought AWB had a solid game. His mistake at the end was probably due to a bit of mental and physical fatigue England had been under severe pressure after the red card.

Boothroyd's substitutes were bizarre and ultimately cost England the game. The split strikers provided no protection for the full backs and had no impact going forward, as such England had to endure wave after wave of French pressure.

I was impressed with England and thought they were the better team before the sending off. I thought Maddison and Foden were both very good in midfield and apart from Chowdhury's ridiculous challenge I thought he was having an excellent game. I've been impressed by him since he's broke into the Leicester team and love his energy and intensity.

Providing Leicester are able to retain their best players over the summer I expect them to have a very good season next year and predict they could even push the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and ourselves for a top 4 finish.

I agree to an extent jred.
Pogba has been involved in many or you could say most of our attacking play. He is our most creative player when at his best.
But he does get called out for most of his bad moments and i think more than most players but that goes with his profile. That's just the way it is.
The most disappointing thing for me with pogba on the pitch is his inconsistency and his swings in form which have a close correlation with his swings in effort. Ed025 hit the nail on the head when he said Paul will do what Paul wants to do and nothing will change that. He said he wants to leave for a new challenge i think its time for everybody to accept that as long as the offer is suitable.
He has downed tools and been disruptive for 1 coach his recent comments look to be disruptive again i think its best for all to cut ties and move on.

Shappy, well written article although I still don’t think he had a very good game at all. Clarke-Salter and Tomori looked out most solid defenders throughout the match.
Just an off game for the lad that shouldn’t reflect on how good he’s been for Palace this season.

Shappy, thanks for your post. I have tp agree with some of the posters who thought he didn't have a good game. I actually thought he had a really bad game. His passing was terrible, positioning was even worse. He got turned inside out on several occasions. His tackling was good and clean. But overall, he had a really poor game. He looks quite clumsy and cumbersome. Have to say Max Aarons at Norwich looks a better prospect especially going forward.

Great to sew a sensible stats based analysis of the player in that game!

So many people have over reacted because of an own goal!

Ken
Pogba is what he is, when we bought him fom juve people bigged him up to be a player he wasnt, bought in to hype. All of which was discussed at the time .
People have then judged him against there own misplaced expectations .
Pogba is a good player, he just isn't the player people thought he was .

AWB, had a very average game, the lad can play much better, to be honest he looked nervous . But people want us to sign him so they look for the positives and ignore the negatives
People do the exact opposite, witha player they don't like.

Its interesting that shappy has broke AWB game down to balls won etc, to show a player he likes in a good light . Even tho he had pretty average game the other night .

Yet has been very critical of the "virus" all season, a player he wants sold . Yet if you broke his game down for the role he plays it's very easy to paint him in a positive light .

People see what they want to see.

Shappy stats without context is all that. Stats.

I think he had a poorish game overall. Very poor based on what I saw, stats show he had a decent game. Truth is somewhere in the middle.

Stastically, Pogba had 16 goals and 11 assists from 'midfield'.
Even many forwards will struggle to replicate those numbers.
Therefore stats don't give the entire picture.
