Correlation ≠ causation

Smalling is a bad player, but so are Jones, and Rojo. And Bailly hasn’t played well in nearly two years. So many other factors than Smalling being injured contributed to that run of form.

Obviously wasnt the sole reason but it is right to assume that our good run of form was helped by the fact we had two centre backs who knew how to pass a football.

Smalling will be a greater liability this next season. With VAR our penalty give aways will be massive if Smalling continues cuddling any striker within reach.
