So Sky reporting that Newcastle won't entertain any bid less than £50m for Longstaff. For a guy who has played 10 odd games and hasn't set the stage alight, it would be criminal for them to ask for that much money. I know the market is inflated but it does not mean we must may crazy amount for every player there is. I would frankly look after other targets if that is the case.

{Ed001's Note - you clearly haven't watched him play or understand how much value a homegrown youngster has to a club like Newcastle. Nothing criminal about asking whatever they want for him.}

Theyve just lost rafa benitez and sold ayoze perez this summer. Hardly going to want to roll over for man united and give us their best homegrown player.

Also we just paid a similar amount for wan bissaka who has played more games granted but is still considered inexperienced.

I have watched him ed although not frequently, as one can expect considering how few games he has played. He might have potential but hasn't done anything to warrant £50m. AWB had played a whole season and became one of the best full back in the league. Newcastle can even put £100m price tag if they want but that doesn't justify if he deserves such money. He might grow to become one of the best midfielders in the world, you never know but being a homegrown and showing some potential does not warrant such price.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but who are you to tell Newcastle how much they should ask for the most talented player to emerge from their academy since Carrick? Arrogant much?}

DSG on the flipside Perez went for £30m and has done more for Newcastle than Longstaff has.

I don’t believe the reports at all it’s just lazy journalism but I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re quoted a silly fee.

We dug in with AWB and got him at lower than their asking price.

Ed001, I agree with what your saying and newcastle have every right to put what ever valuation they want on longstaff but they won't or shouldn't get that amount for him.

But in Newcastles defence surely this is good negotiating as the buying club would come in with a low offer and both clubs try to meet in the middle.

{Ed001's Note - if you don't pay it, they would be mad to sell him.}

I'm with Ed on this. Apart from the fact that NUFC don't have to 'justify' their valuation you are basing your valuation on what you've seen of him, which by your own admission is not a lot. The staff at NUFC have seen the lad every day for. however many years and will be better placed to judge his potential and value to the club than you or I. They 'own' him so can ask whatever fee they like. If we don't value him quite so highly we don't pay the price. Simples. A bit like when you personally go out to buy something really. I fail to see your issue.

I am not telling but i am giving an opinion and in a banter site. Sorry ed! don't want to offend you but it is hard to take it lightly when someone asks "who are you" question. I am someone and i am allowed to show my opinion on the matter just the way you can. If you don't agree with my opinion then i am happy to have a healthy conversation but won't accept someone getting personal.

{Ed001's Note - but you are the one getting personal and being arrogant about giving it 'who do Newcastle think they are?' Now you are whining like a petulant child because the same question is asked of you. Should that not tell you something? If you can't take it, don't give it out.}

Are Newcastle showing any interest in any of our players to help the deal along Ed?

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of, but I am sure there are some young players that they might take to smooth things. None of the first team are on wages that would make them viable signings for Newcastle.}

They can ask what they want. And they're using the wan bissaka fee as a guide. But as they just sold Perez for 30 i'd offer them the same.

Maybe having worked with him Newcastle are confident of the player he could be one and understand what he is worth to them .

Ed002, what would you think, from a buying clubs perspective, would Longstaff be worth?

{Ed002's Note - He has very little experience so realistically £10M-£15M would likely be right but if Newcastle were putshed in to a corner over a sale no doubt they would want a lot more.}

When did I imply "who did Newcastle think they are? " Why are you bending the words. Even if i said that, i am not going personal with you while you are going personal with me. I don't agree with your opinion but i am not going to call you arrogant or a child because i know i should not insult someone. You may be right, I may be wrong but an opinion about a player should be in no regards to judge a persons character.

{Ed001's Note - you called their price 'criminal'. I am going to leave this as you are just being petty. I won't waste my time on you again.}

Being surrounded by geordies who still live in 1996 mode, the general fan base rate him highly but then again they applaud the peanut seller at SJP!
Newcastle have the right to put whatever price they see fit on the lad and Ashley is a hard nosed businessman and will extract the last penny out of any deal. Will gladly take ed 001 opinion that the lad has great potential but my concern would be the extent of his knee injury suffered last season. Media figures are just that and would guesstimate if a deal could be done circa £30m which in todays market isn't a big risk.

Srestha, Newcastle don't want to sell him. They just sold Perez, Rafa is gone and their owner is under serious amount of scrutiny again. Why would they roll over and have their belly tickled because we want their player? A player is only worth what we're willing to pay. We have a valuation, they have a valuation. If they're too far apart, we move on.

If someone came in and offered £10 million for Chong, Greenwood, Gomes, Tuanzebe you would laugh them out of town. They don't have much premier league experience.

Mort, swap them for the water works and the electric company and one railroad and you have a deal.
