Watching the game:

James looks constantly dangerous while Matic just keeps giving the ball away.

Dan James, Andreas, Dalot and Lingard only bright spots
Martial looked sharp in bits. His passing has been awful as last season.

Interesting first half, can't really judge after 45 minutes.

Tuanzebe and Jones didn't have much to do, the two times Perth were on the attack it was because Jones was caught out of position, but he managed to make up for it on both occasions, still a worry.

Dalot got forward a few times and Young was one of the better players, seems more comfortable on the left, but wasn't tested too much defensively and as OotRD pointed out did give the ball away.

Andreas just seemed very rusty, may several interesting runs.

Matic was bad, too slow, gave the ball away easily.

Lingard was more or less invisible bar on one or two occasions where he skipped past a couple of players.

Chong and Martial didn't have much of the ball, and the defence was very tight, but they both looked dangerous when they did get a bit of space.

James was great to watch, high energy, faded a bit towards the end of the half, but that may be because most the play still went down the left side and he switched over to the right.

Think Pogba and Mata if they play in the second half may have enough creativity to break the defence down as it's like a constant 10 man wall.

Thought James faded a bit when swapped left wing to right but no real chance to run beyond the defence as they were all packed in their own half: basically defence vs attack.

Defence very comfortable (had very little to do! ) though Axel looks very calm in possession.

Matic improved a bit, Perriera trying but no impact; Jesse looks like he’s not taking it too seriously, though couple of decent efforts.

Martial looks like he’s still on sulk mode, not appearing to make too much effort.

Fingers crossed new 11 in second half find a way through!

Rashford and Greenwood looking sharp.

Gomez trying, not sure if Pogba is or not

Wan Bissaka amazing, nothing getting past him!

Thought Gomes, Wan Bissaka and Greenwood stood out second half.

However, Pogba, when involved, just looks head and shoulders above everyone else in the pitch - finds it so easy. If only he put the effort in for the whole game, what an amazing player he’d be.

In my opinion, best 11 based on both halves/ new team second half: (no system, just best performance in position)

Romero

Wan Bissaka
Axel Tuanzebe
Phil Jones
Luke Shaw

Scott McTominay
Paul Pogba
Juan Mata
Dan James

Marcus Rashfford
Greenwood.

Gomes, Mata and Pogba, nice assist, with all the creativity, Rashford and Greenwood getting on the end of that. Rojo looked worse than Jones. AWB was a brick. McTominay looked calm and secure, better than Matic in that position. And Garner's goal was very well taken. Not a bad start, looking forward to Leeds.

Wallace,

How did you watch that 2nd half and not put Gomes in that team?

I thought Mata was more influential but you’re right, Gomes did really well.

Gomes looked very good. I'm hoping he gets plenty of chances on tour to put down a marker.

However, I think we will know more about where these players are after the Leeds game, which will be far more competitive.

Have to agree with GDS, I thought Gomes looked really good. Very sharp and clever on the ball, think he should get some minutes when we're trying to break down teams who have parked the bus.
