Just posting this in case Maguire comes. Imo he will be one of the top 2/ 3 players at club, CBS in the league and our captain within the year.

Also to hang my head in shame if he turns out as " limited" as some call him. Expecting people with differing opinions to keep it in mind till the end of the season.

He will walk into our team, but he is no leader.

Harry Maguire is a very good player, he is strong in the air, good with the ball at his feet and dribbles the ball out well from the back to break the lines.

However, he needs to improve his reading of the game and the timing of his runs and when to release the ball. He has a tendency to dribble out at ill-advised times holds on to the ball too long and loses possession leaving big gaps in the back line without enough pace to recover.

He is an improvement on what we have and will add a couple of new dimensions to our side, ball playing, ability to break the lines and strong player in the air in both boxes.

There is an argument to be made that unless he can improve on his weaknesses then he might be exposed when competing at the highest level. Which does bring into question whether he is a sensible signing at the price quoted. However, this can be countered by asking is there any players who are better than him now and who are available.

We have been linked with some quality young central defenders, Dias and Melinkovic for example. Both could be better long term options. But as neither have played in the EPL there is no guarantee they would settle and adapt quickly. They could take a season to settle like Lindelof. Or they might not settle and adapt at all.

Maguire might be the best option currently, although I feel an argument could be made for Issa Diop, especially at the price quoted.

Either way, if Maguire joins then he should get our full support. We shouldn't slate him if his weaknesses do show up as we know about them before we signed him.

If he and AWB can save us ten goals a season then that alone would put us into contention for a top four spot. Add in a better midfield that can control the game tempo better and if we can be more forceful in attack and trap a few more goals then we might even be able to pinch third place next season. Which will be a huge success.

Agreed Shappy but like you for the price being quoted I would at least enquire about Issa Diop. Given his age he would be a better long term solution and offer the same short term solution too.

I'm sure we could get Dias for less aswell.

Maguire is for the here and now.

We have some great up and coming players but we need the finished article.

Probably the best available right now and an upgrade on what we have.

RDA I totally agree and have said many times we need a CB for the here and now. We don’t have time to develop a CB and perhaps that is why the fee is so high. Fix the CB position now and then bring in a younger CB in a year or two.

Issa Diop is still raw.
He is good but gives away a lot of fouls and is not as good on the ball.
We can instead develop our own Tuanzebe.
