I would much rather see us sign Dias from Benfica than Maguire at the alleged 90 mil.

If Leicester get Dunk or Tarkowski for 30 million to replace Maguire they have got a better deal than us!

I would rather try out Axel tuanzebe than spend all that on a def. Axel played really well in the friendlys I thought and spend on mid and maybe rw.

Problem is though we do need a defender. Bailky is already crocked. Jones is as reliable as paper condom. And if Rojo is the answer I dread to think what the question is. That leaves us with Lindelof, Smalling and Tuanzebe. We're an injury or two away from disaster.

We canâ€™t go into the season with our current options, especially with bailly our for 5 months. Yes I agree axel should be given an opportunity but one injury and we are back in the realm of smalling, Rojo and Jones. There are options I would prefer to Maguire, but they are not available or not a right fit for us at this exact moment. Dias is a very talented player but there is no guarantee he will settle straight away. He could be a revelation or he could be a 1st season lindelof and then we are back with smalling et al.

I was against Maguire but now heâ€™s a necessity imo. I think he would improve us and be a good foil for lindelof. He is strong in the air and is a leader. Pace is a concern but letâ€™s hope he can improve his positioning.

Time Wolf - dunk is awful and he looks good because Brighton defend so deep. Would get exposed at any club where they play a higher line. Tarkowski is the one who gets all the plaudits but itâ€™s Ben mee who is the better defender. I would take Maguire over all of them.

It doesnâ€™t matter how much they are paying. Not to us fans. The Van Dijk deal has changed the dynamics of the transfer market just the way Neymar's ridiculous move to PSG did. Barcelona then went out and spent way over the odds on Dembele and Coutinho.
We need a centre half and it would be good if we got one who has PL experience and more importantly, one who the manager wants in his team.
Would you honestly rather the board go and buy Dias or Untiti or whoever else weâ€™ve been linked with, over the managers preferred choice just to save money.

Mort makes a very good point. I wouldnâ€™t ever take a bet on a Rojo red card or Jones injury happening before the other but either way we are potentially quite short of options at centre back.

Does anyone know if AWB can play CB? He looks like he has the attributes to do so to me, and depending on how his attacking game develops may even end up being best suited there.
