Ole may or may not be the answer and for what it’s worth I don’t think he is. However, since SAF left we have blundering around signing players for big fees who haven’t worked out and changing direction almost every year or two. But, in the last window we signed Maguire, AWB and Dan James, all of whom currently like good signings. So. if we sign a couple in January and another 3 in the Summer, who are as good a fit as the 3 we signed last summer, how much progress does that give us?

We were crap today and it showed the lack of depth in the squad so it’s not just about quality, it’s also about numbers. But if we were to add 4 more who can make a difference (like the last 3), then where does that put us? I know everyone wants us to be successful quickly but whoever is in charge it is going to take time. Like it or not SAF has some responsibility here. He left a squad that needed improving, sadly the improvements initially made were simply not good enough. We’ve spent enough money, but on players that were not United class, were past their best, or didn’t want to be here (Fellaini, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Di Maria, Falcao, Fred, need I go on? )

The current approach to buy proven EPL performers and exciting youth should be applauded and hopefully we can replicate what we did this Summer in midfield and up front.

It won’t be a quick fix and clearly some are not prepared to wait or be patient but that’s how it is. Saddle up and strap yourselves in.

The main issue with this is recruiting proven EPL talent will become increasingly difficult if we carry on with the form we’ve had since February.

We know that our lack of CL football put certain players off joining, and a season on this form will put us close to mid table. Proven talent will only move if it improves their chances of winning trophies, that or we’re back to bringing in players chasing a paycheque.

There needs to be patience, and a realisation that we are years away from competing with City and Liverpool, but there also needs to be improvement. Jose was right to say that Ole brought in three good players this summer, and there is no real improvement on the pitch. That’s partly down to major mistakes in the transfer window, but to convince good players to join the club Ole needs to show that we’re heading in the right direction. I can’t see why players like Sancho would choose us, when we’re a step down from Dortmund. We need to improve, or we will struggle to sign quality in January and next summer.

EPL proven players will cost a premium.
