Morning chaps,
Although we are out, I'm happy enough with last night's performance. We showed passion and spirit and obviously won the game.
City had a host of chances though and could very easily have been game over early doors but for some fantastic saves by de gea.
Thought the 2 boys in midfield were immense today, Fred is becoming quite consistent.

Matic sending off, yeah 2 yellow cards so deserved but my god the amount of tactical fouls city commit is unreal, I know Klopp called them out on it before and we get pulled for a mata foul throw, what about pep grabbing the ball and trying to not let mata have it. Guarantee if Mourinho does that it's a touchline ban.

Anyways as usual this season we have had some bad results followed by good ones. But we've bet city twice at their place in 6 weeks, it's been a long time since I seen that and more than ever I see the green shoots.
Delighted with Bruno too and still hopeful of a striker on loan.

I've said it once and I'll proudly say it again.

In Ole I trust. Believe!

Although we won the game couple of players were beyond awful, Lindelof and Martial to be specific. Matic and Fred were excellent and team did show heart.

As ole said, we need a striker who will break his nose to score a goal.

Martial did nothing wrong, when he had the ball, which was rare given the service, he held on to it and more often than not, played a useful pass. Fred was sloppy again, lost the ball constantly, poor passes and too easily dispossessed. People's praising of Fred shows how far the level has fallen, he's no better than Anderson.

Martial needs Rashford as the two are intelligent enough on the ball to work together to create chances. It's no coincidence that when both play they get more goals and assists. Rashford wasn't particularly great when Martial was out injured either, I seem to remember people ranting about him not being good enough then. The problem is that as soon as one of them is out, there's a lack of intelligent players to replace them, meaning they have to create everything alone. If Fred and Matic were so good, they'd have at least provided something. Lingard is the main culprit though, and Perreira just isn't good enough either, Mata has vision but is a little too slow. Hopefully Fernandes can provide that intelligence needed for Rashford and Martial to not have to rely solely on one another. Pogba returning will also help in this aspect.

Fred won the ball countless times last night, and got the ball forward and looked after it well against one of the best midfields in Europe.

I'm not particularly happy with the performance we did pretty much nothing other than the goal. Needed to win by two goals to take the game to penalties I don't think there was much ambition shown to actually go after City and win the game. It was more of a hope for a bit of luck to win the game than any sort of game plan. Stoke or Burnley tactics. We play like a small club in big games I've noticed.

He lost the ball so often. I remember in the first half, he tackled a City player, can't remember which one, got the ball and sent the player to the floor, by the time he untangled his feet, the City player was back up and dispossessed him. He does run a lot and does act as a good barrier in front of the defence, but his passing is poor and his control of the ball quite bad; the ball always seems to be caught between his feet or escaping him, meaning he's constantly stretching to toe poke the ball wherever he can, often leading to the opposition gaining possession. He does what Fellaini did defensively, but lacks the offensive qualities someone like Fellaini had, doesn't score, doesn't create chances. I would hardly call Fellaini a great player or one of the best midfielders in Europe, is he even one of the best midfielders in Asia? If Fred is one of the best midfielders in Europe, then the standard of midfielders must have dropped considerably. I think Fred is a squad player at best.

Didn’t call Fred one of the best in Europe, I said he played well against one of the best midfields in Europe. He was brilliant in the league game there, and was good last night again. Credit where it’s due imo.

Guess we disagree on this, I don't believe a player who fails to control a ball and plays poor passes whilst being dispossessed regularly is brilliant. I fail to see anything other than a hard worker and someone who puts in the odd good tackle or block.
