So since Lukaku left we knew we needed a striker, a proper number 9 who could lead the line as Martial is iffy. This has been six months and we now just go for numerous has beens and not good enough strikers. What knob in management has not identified the striker and made the right bid to the selling club?

Clubs are very reluctant to sell strikers in Jan.

I think Dembele could have been an option, but Depay’s injury means that he isn’t available.

The big mistake was selling Lukaku at the end of the summer window. The player and the manager wanted the transfer but the club dragged things out with Inter to secure an extra few million. That left us with no time to replace him in the summer, and no one to replace him with now.

There’s a reason that we’re looking at Josh King, and it isn’t because he’s a top quality striker.

It does feel like we've missed out on a gem in Halaand, would have been a great player to have in this squad.

I like the idea of Josh King but for the price being mentioned it seems crazy.

The usual knobs.

It was always intended that Martial would be first choice striker, that is why he was given the No.9 shirt and a big new deal.

What the club needed was a reliable back up/ rotation option to Martial. In the summer that’s a hard-enough gig to sell, but during the January window only players who are out of form and not playing will up sticks and move with little chance of their playing time increasing.

We aren’t attempting to sign a genuine top-class player to be first choice, we are looking for a player who is happy being second choice to Martial and who won’t be here long term and block Greenwood.

That was always going to be a short list.

As for keeping Lukaku he wanted to leave, his poor under Ole was poor and he isn't the sort of striker who would have been happy to play second fiddle to Martial.

Who s responsible for leaving this for the last minute? We already started the season with no replacement for Lukaku. Then we lost Rashford too.
I still think that for a competently managed club there was enough time to look and sign a replacement. not us apparently.

We shouldn’t be looking for backup to Martial. He isn’t a no.9 who will score 20 + goals a season. We should be recruiting a top quality striker in the summer so that we go into 20/ 21 with healthy competition.
We won the treble with Yorke, Cole, Sheringham and Ole.
We had Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez too.
This talk of bringing in Ighalo, Slimani or King is a joke and shows the small minded mentality of Solskjaer.

God this is boring. I think it’s sensible from the club whisky we work on long term squad building. This day and age everyone thinks they’re an expert at everything and want instant success. Ridiculous.

Agree it's getting boring. Like I said earlier if some posters were managing the club it would be bankrupt within a year. Spend 100 million on a striker in January. If he doesn't meet expectations just spend another 100 million in the summer window.

I’m not saying spend £100m in the jan window. Are you telling me the absolute best we could manage was a 6 month loan for Ighalo who’s been playing in China for the last 3 years.
I sincerely hope I’m eating my words come May.
