Anyone else think with signing of DVB we could possibly play the 4222 formation ed 001 ( I think) was saying Ole preferred way of playing.

I don't know if anyone else has previously mentioned this.

Obviously that is depending on other signings. (That's of course if we do)

But with what we've got it could turn out to be a 4222

DVB Matic sitting with Fernandes and Pogba further forward and rashford and Martial up top?

With not having the most attacking full backs in the league I think it could make sense.

Could be far fetched like but a thought.

I hope not. We are more effective playing with two wide men and I think we’ve struggled for the whole time we’ve not had a RW for that reason.

We play on a wide pitch so we should use that to our advantage by stretching the opposition defence.

Wilbot - I think a lot will depend on if we sign Sancho or another RW!

Ole's preferred formation appears to be a 4-2-3-1 and I'm not sure that's about to change. The fact we want Sancho suggests to me that Ole still intends to predominantly use this formation.

There has been a lot of speculation about how Ole could fit Pogba, Fernandes and VdB in the same midfield and I personally like the look of a midfield diamond. With Matic anchoring the midfield, Pogba left of centre, VdB right and Fernandes at No10 on paper it looks like a well balanced and formidable midfield. From what I've seen VbB is a very good midfield runner, he likes to make advanced runs into the box where he can be elusive and hard to pick up. Pogba is always better further forward in my opinion where he can effect the game in more advanced positions and Fernandes has been brilliant in that No10 role.

I think the only problem with this formation is it lacks width and our full backs have struggled to perform consistently from an attacking perspective. Having said that Rashford, Martial or Greenwood are all capable of drifting into wide positions with Fernandes, VdB and Pogba making runs into the box.

Whilst I don't think Shaw is the most refined attacking outlet he does make some good runs and the team looks more balanced when he starts. His injury record is a concern and with a condensed season he won't be able to play every game.

I just wonder if we can't land Sancho then maybe we should make an attacking left back our next priority! Williams has been good but from but an attacking perspective it's hard for him to overlap and deliver quality into the box not being naturally left footed.

Whilst I still think Ole favours a 4-2-3-1 I just wonder if this might evolve as the season progresses especially if we don't sign another RW before the deadline.

Agreed that a diamond looks like suiting our midfield options the most, but AWB cannot play a forward pass and Rashford isn’t a central striker. I think we’ll still play 4-2-3-1, with vdB, Pog and Bruno rotating in games against the top 8, but all three playing in games where we’ve traditionally struggled to break teams down, the likes of Burnley at home etc.

I think if we sign

Reguilion
Upamecano and
Sancho will prove to be a good window but I'll be surprised if we sign anyone else.

Those 3 would be an unbelievable window Wilbot.

I’d rather not spend money on CB and let Mengi come through, rather than have 9 central defenders in the squad!

Sancho and a left back and I’m very happy.

Diogo Dalot could provide width in the games we need it because we play a diamond in midfield.

But it seems he is out of Cavour for some reason
But we could have Shaw and Dalot bombing forward on the wings.

Would leave us way open at the back though with Lindelof being the quickest out of him, Maguire and Matic.

I think one of the reasons Dalot is out of favour is that Ole puts a lot on physical robustness.

I suppose as a player who suffered a few injuries and used to play with pain killing injections he probably has very little time for players who declare themselves unable to play because they have a bruise.

I'm not saying that Dalot is like that, just that Ole doesn't place his trust in any player who he can't rely on to be fit.

Rojo out the door on loan, he has more faith in Tuanzebe than Jones or Bailly. Dalot for a young player picks up a lot of injuries.
