Got to feel sorry for poor old Donny, ruled out of Euros for Holland today with injury.

Would have been off with his old mates having a laugh, playing football in a tournament, building up his confidence for next season.

Not like he needed a rest either.

if he performed when he come on the pitch he might of got more game time.

although only getting subbed on 3 times in 19 appearances before the 50th minute is a bit of a confidence kicker.

Devastating for the lad. It's been a awful year for him and I was quite looking forward to seeing him in a team that likes to play football.

Sold lies to join us and then having to watch Fred fumble around the midfield all season. You'd have to feel for him.

Another buy that doesn’t really make sense…really like him as a player and was excited when we signed him. Can’t help but think we signed him as a pogba replacement and the deal was too good to pass up at the time.

You have to feel sorry for the lad. He has struggled to get much game time this season and has been mostly poor when he has played.

Clearly he's a hugely talented lad, and it is difficult to play at your best when you don't get a run in the side. We have seen both Lindelof and Fred struggle in their first season's before finding their feet in their second season. Like Donny they had come from weaker leagues (Portuguese and Ukrainian) so there is a big step up in terms of pace and quality.

Fingers crossed he can kick on next season. If we can bring in someone like Declan Rice then maybe Donny can secure that second spot in the double pivot alongside them and we can see McFred become a thing of the past.

tbh shappy can't see him at ot next season - and he does deserve better treatment from us.

If he's not wanted by the manager we should look to sell him. He must massively regret joining United as he's been wasted since getting here.

I've stated several times he deserves a chance but having him sit on the bench for another season is going to drive his value down and ruin what is a promising career.

I see a lot of people say that Donny hasn't performed well when he has played, but I don't see it. Every time he's come on I've thought he played fairly well. He hasn't really made mistakes, his passing has been good and he gets in a lot of dangerous positions. His good play hasn't come to much, but IMO that's just because his teammates aren't used to him.

I think he'll be a revelation if he has a DM who can pass alongside him, like Rice, Koopmeiners or even Winks. McTominey would benefit a lot too.

Unfortunate for the lad.
He has been badly managed by Ole imo. Should have been given more opportunities in a midfield pivot.

Very difficult to get any rhythm going coming in and out of the team. Some sub appearances were only 3 or 4 minutes left in a game.

He's done ago, as Shappy said it can take time to get to grips to the pace of the league. But he's never actually had a 4 or 5 games to get into his stride.

Our manager insistence on playing Fred and McTominay is one he'll need to ditch if we want to evolve. Eight 0-0 draws last year with them two starting in six of them. Not good enough.

Donny may not be the answer to our midfield problems but he deserves a chance to make a claim for it.

Fully agree Thorne -it all fits into the bigger picture - Get a top CH to solidify the defence- get a Rice -Bissouma -Ndidi type player in -in other words a quality DM and watch DVB flourish with his passing and with the confidence to make the odd mistake knowing he has cover around him 7-10 games in he will be a different player. judge him then.

agree there mumbles

we don't need to play both fred and mctoim but ole is set in his 2 protecting the back 4.

will that change if we get a better partner for maguire?

Shappy, If it took Fred a year to find his feet how long will it take for him to be able to control them.

I thought he should in the Wolves game what he can do next to a true DM. If we do purchase then I think we may see a lot more of him.

Nightmare end to a nightmare season. Test of his character, I hope he comes back next season and is given a chance.

Good player in there but ultimately behind Matic, Fred, McTominay, Pogba, Bruno and probably Garner.

He needs to nail down a position and perform well consistently or pack up.

Garner lol. 'The next Carrick'. Sorry, but if that's what we've come to I despair.

Bolger2 - A new CB is irrelevant. Ole uses McFred because he doesn't have a DM and between Fred and McTominey they cover the DM role without inhibiting their normal game too much.

It will be the signing of a new DM which should be the end of McFred (as a regular pairing at least), which is why some of us rate DM as our biggest priority signing this summer.

19.) 08 Jun 2021
08 Jun 2021 22:06:24
Thorne why are you assuming ole wants to play with 1 dm.

20.) 08 Jun 2021
08 Jun 2021 23:12:26
I’m with Ken on this one. I don’t see ole going from two holding to a pure DM. Especially not with the chuckle brothers at CB.

21.) 08 Jun 2021
08 Jun 2021 23:45:58
I think Ole has proved in big games that he would like to play with 1 DM, the final for example, we just don’t have the DM to do it or the defence really so we look stronger with Fred and Scott there.

Spenno, did you see any of Garner at Forest? He bossed it there, really good loan spell, he might get a chance next year so the poster saying he’s ahead of Donny might be the case if he performs well, Donny certainly hasn’t yet.

GDS2,

So, if the previous stint is a measure of a player then Garner shouldn't even be in comparison with Donny. Remember he played for Ajax first team and made more than 150 appearances for them.

The reality is his game time is being poorly managed by a clueless Ole and he nor the the coaching staff know how to use him effectively.

23.) 09 Jun 2021
09 Jun 2021 06:36:15
I'm sure Ed02 has said we've been trying to flog him and offered him multiple other teams who so far haven't been interested. How on earth we can be looking to get rid so soon after buying is beyond me.

LPU,

I didn’t say that was the measure of the player but at the start of the season if Garner gets a chance and performs well then that would have him ahead of Donny if he didn’t perform well.

His game time has been absolutely perfect for the performances he has put in, if he’s playing as badly in training as he is on the pitch why would he get a chance? He plays like a rabbit caught in the headlights scared to make a forward pass, I remember when we used to have characters in the midfield who would go out with no fear, the poor lad looks scared to death, weird to me that he played in huge games for Ajax.
