Here are a few other potential names that have been mentioned before for CM

1 - Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille)
2 - Andre Ayew (Marseille)
3 - Ever Banega (Valencia)
4 - Yoann Gourcuff (Lyon)

Plenty more options too

The whole will we sign him or wont we is driving me crazy. One minute we are getting Nasri the next we aren't. Then next we are getting Sneijder, and now we might not get him either. All I know is we need at least one quality CM.

Is it just me or is there a pattern beginning to develop, SAF has just ruled out a move for Nasri despite all the speculation, remind you of a certain Mesut Ozil who was supposedly joining United last summer, however decided to choose Madrid over us. Now, i've read the speculation regarding Sneijder, and I reckon that it's going to be the same old story. Personally I think Sneijder is a fantastic player, and i'd love to see him in a United shirt as he can play a part in almost any team in the world (with the exclusion of Barcelona) however can I see United coughing up £35,000,000 for him, no, can I see us meeting his outragous wage demands, no. We all know we've never been the biggest spenders in the transfer market and I can't see that changing this summer. I am a big United supporter but I think it's time we faced the facts :/

Have been advised by a reliable source that United were keen on bringing both Samir Nasri & Wesley Sneijder to Old Trafford, but have been turned down by both players.
According to my guy, Nasri wants to team up with the Arsenal contingent at Manchester City despite United's interest. Wesley Sneijder does not want to leave Inter Milan as he does not want to up root his family to their 3rd country in 2 years, when he does leave Inter, he would like to return to Holland.
I have been told to expect United to match Chelsea's offer for Luka Modric but Modric has his heart set on Chelsea & staying in London.

Well with SAF seeming to be ruling out the Nasri move and Sneijder possibly ruling himself out of move, where do we turn?
Modric looking like he's going Chelsea. Pastore is unproven, comes from the italian league and would cost stupid money.
Personally, I'd look at either Gotze, 18 and a really bright prospect. 25-30m bid would be too hard to turn down for Dortmund but he wouldn't be able to step directly into Scholesys boots.. Kagawa? Would boost the asian support and would definately be the cheapest option.

I really didn't see him coming to United anyway but i'm still disappointed that it's now been confirmed. He could have been great here. City can offer him all the money he wants, and money is clearly what he's after if he joins them. I still, however, think he'll be playing for Arsenal next season.

If we dont make at least 1 CM signing this summer, preferbley 2 (and world class ones at that) we will defo not win the champs league. And if Chelsea get Modric and City get Nasri along with the other signings they will be making, then it will be one of them 2, hate to say this, but really cant see us improving with the signings we've made so far, whereas they will both be strengthening an awful lot.
Get out of the old days fergie and put ur hand in ur pocket or kiss goodbye to the trophy next year

Interesting quotes from Fergie on Scholesy - "How do you replace somebody like Paul Scholes? It's very difficult. If you bracket four of the best midfield players in the world he'd be alongside Xavi and Iniesta and then you take your pick. In my mind he's one of the top four players in the world. How will we overcome it? Maybe the next few weeks will help us overcome it. Maybe somebody will emerge out of the youth team or one of the young players ermerge, and then we carry on."

I don't believe for one second that he truly believes this. Now I am risking the wrath of Gan and Sydney as well as others saying Pogba, Cleverly etc (yes great players but can't fill the current void). Wonder why he is being so coy.

I have just been thinking and I now have changed my own mind and decided that sneijder will be a good signing for our team. The reason being that apart from his wages people say he will hog rooney's position, but was it not when rooney stopped dropping deep he scored 34 in a season, which is much more than when he drops deep.

I can see wayne scoring 30 again if we sign sneijder as he will be forced to stay in and around the area, though he can still drop next to sneijder to supply wingers and the pea.

Also there is talk af wes coming on 175k instead of the 200k mentioned before. I know Nasri is still the cheaper option and in some peoples opinions the better but I can no longer see him coming.

Wesley Sneijder saying he wants to stay at Inter Milan was a quote from the July edition of their magazine, which I guess was written sometime in June. come on guys If you were him would you say that you wanted to leave and risk the Inter fans protesting at your doorstep? there is still a chance the deal wont go through and then he would be left with egg on his face, and be like Tevez hated for pushing for the transfer, he's quite rightly edging his bets and keeping everyone sweet...... I believe the deal is still on, and hope he comes

If sneijder wants to stay at inter then leave him there. We're man utd, not some place players should go because their team needs the money or they have no other option. Yes he's world class and no doubt he'd come in and do a job but if he isnt desperate to join and help us dominate then id rather him stay where he is.

Someone made a comment earlier about players saying they are going nowhere, only for them to move a week later.

Do you guys think that the transfer would be better if only players with a year left could move? Just to stop players doing what ronaldo did by signing 5 year contracts then leaving?

It may not be a good idea in some respects but it would stop teams demanding £50m for everyone who has scored above a goal a season.

Just wanted to post something i found out today which might surprise a few. At Inter Sneijder is on £150,000-£160,000 a week not the £250,000 people believe from the media, United could match that no problem, we've just cleared nearly £200,000 per week off the wage bill with Scholes, VDS, Wes, O'Shea and Hargreaves leaving. Okay Scholes is a coach now but I doubt he's on the sort of money he was before.

He doesn't want to leave inter but will go if they dont want him.
Him and his wife love Milan and don't want to leave I say f##k him and his wife and let him stay there.
This would be IMO a massive mistake by united if we do sign him after him stating he has no desire to play for us but will come if inter say they don't want him.

We should be signing guys that at least want to play for us not guys that are being pushed towards us.

hello everybody, theirs a lot of posts for the possiblity of sneijder or or nasri coming to united. here is my 2 cents. granted, both are good players, but i dont feel we need them. nasri had a decent season but i dont feel he is a player for united. same goes with wesley i just dont feel they are right for united. in all honesty i would prefer someone sir alex can mould into the player united needs, as i think what he is doing with anderson. i still have high hopes for anderson and i believe he has the quality to become one of the best. we saw flashes of it last season. when anderson was at porto he was playing as a much more attack minded player almost like rooney. he pushed far up the field. fergie is changing him to a complete centre mid. i think this will be his season. hopefully no injuries. if we do sign a mid i have to agree with another poster who said we should sign christian eriksen. if i had to pick out of sneijder and nasri i would go for wesley for his experience and he is undoubtedly a top player.
i do want the youth ranks to come through because they know fergies style of play, but i dont have much of a chance to see what they are like, but just going from the what people say on here we have a great batch of youngsters coming through.

peace out

Notice sneijder has got us split again. My view remains as it always has done and that is if we get sneijder I will be happy, as long as his wages dont exceed 200,000 but at the same time I dont care if we get him or nasri as long as we get one of them.

I also notice that you are all split on anderson, personally I think he has the ability to run a game due to his strength and turn of pace but I would like to see him start getting into goal scoring places a bit more, that would help him as he only has to hit the target (we all no he has a poor shot.) I think he is a good player and could do well next season.

Jones seems to be in a good few predicted teams but I am really hoping fletcher is back to his best the start on next season, such a good player for us. Jones will have his chances but I dont really expect to see him as muc as some may think.

Evening

I have to say a lot of yous posters change your mind as quick as the weather. Sneijder was the best man for our creative midfiled role and everyone had their heart set on him. Then Modric was the main man and he was the key. Now Nasri is on the radar and everyone thinks Sneijder isn't as good as Nasri because the little prince's career highlight was having a good 5 months in the Premier League. While Sneijder has been quality most of his career.

For everyone saying it will cost 80 million for Sneijder, putting the contract in to the fee is obviosly gonna make it look a hell of a lot worse but what about shirt sales for the next 5 years. Them alone would take a dent out of that figure. One week you have the doom and gloom brigade saying how we never spend money bla bla bla and now it looks like we might spend 100 million in single transfer window and everyones counting the pennies. At least its not a dull window.

There are a number of players that I'd take over Sneijder.

Wilshere
Goetze
Martinez
Modric
Nasri
Kagawa

Im sure you'd all agree they're brilliant players although I don't think any of them are actually available. I'd just like to set a few things straight. I would have absolutely no interest in United signing Sneijder if the absurd wage figures being mentioned are true. 250k a week is simply idiotic, especially for someone who has not been tested in the most unforgiving football league on the planet.

I agree with Gan that if someone joins the club and is offered that kind of money then there's going to be problems. Why should the likes of Vidic, Ferdinand, Nani not be paid the same? Have they not given their all for United? Players would divide. Jealousy would sink in. And the team spirit, a huge factor in the club's success, would plummet.

But what Sneijder would potentially earn if Sir Alex signed him is total guesswork. We have no idea what the wage demands are, which is why I'm not opposed to him signing (at the moment). If there is concrete evidence that he's after that stupid money then I'm totally against the whole transfer.
