Good discussion point today supersub, very interesting. (Not going to discuss specifics here as Eds have made it clear this page is not for so called conspiracies - there's a hint in there somewhere ;)

On a wider moral point. I've always believed in winning fairly, winning by unfair (not just illegal) means is a hollow victory. (I'm thinking Buck tooth Suarez goalie for Uraguay here)

How many would agree?
Or
Disagree for "win at all costs"

Cheers
DodgyBanter

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Well mate I believe in winning fairly but there are some occasions were instinct kicks in and you do something like handle it on the line now I don't agree with diving every week but in the odd occasion your instincts would be to go down.

Agree1 Disagree1

France qualified for the World Cup through cheating. I've talked to French people since then, and every one of them is ashamed of what happened.

G.A.G.U.S

Agree1 Disagree1

I think somethings you do with maybe not instinct but without thinking but diving shouldn't be one of them. Handling the ball i'll except but diving is premeditated cheating. Besides if you cheat without thinking then you should still do the right thing and own up and not protest your innocents.

Shappy

Agree3 Disagree0

Shapps I agree.

Diving specifically is premeditated and is rightly described as cheating. There is a difference where guys try to predict the tackle but they are more obviously trying to avoid the contact more than winning the 'foul'.

The ones where players kick their legs out into the opposition when going down fu**ing drives me insane as I have personally been on the end of a disgraceful decision through that kind of diving.

Instinct things like handball are excusable but defo deserve an explanation and apology especially when they are deciding factors in games ie Henry but incidents like Suarez claiming he was godly or whatever after what he did is inexcusable and deserves all the criticism levelled at players that do things and act like that.

But would I be still be happy winning the CL off a peno that a blatant dive won?

That would have to be yeah!

Jono

Agree3 Disagree0

Thankyou, there is far more to that story and its out there online. Regarding win at all costs, I think it depends what the stakes are? But of we won a CL final with a handball I don't think I'd be calling for it to be replayed.

Hey Ed and other people first time post here! Would you give Nani his last chance or would you just want to get rid of him?

19-20Mufc {Ed004's Note - I am not sure, if we are moving to a formation with no wingers it makes sense to sell him now when we can get a decent amount for him}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Nani could excel in a free-er roaming role behind a striker, license to drift wide either side or down the middle.

It he could keep hitting the first defender at corners and keep giving the ball away!

DodgyBanter

Agree4 Disagree1

But that's rooneys role and he is a far superior player!

Caolán.

Agree5 Disagree0

Nani for me is one of the biggest disapointments in our squad. He has the talent and ability to destroy any team and be one of if not the most talented player in our squad......but he is conssitantly inconssitant. Even in the games where he plays well he still makes bad decisions at times and fails to clear the first man on corners.

He has had ample chances to nail down a place in our team and he hasn't done so.

We now seem to be moving into a formation that doesn't use wingers, so do we need as many in our squad any more?

Now is the best time to sell Nani, we'll get the most for him and we need him the least. So for me it appears we have reached the end of the road with Nani, I'd thank him for all he has done for the club and i'd wish him the best for the rest of his career and beyond but it's time for him to go.

Sir Alex sold Stam too early which cost us... IMO Vidic is the best CB since Stam at united but I believe that Vidic won't fully overcome from his Injury..Ideally we need 1 of the top 3 best CB'S in the world to play for us and unfortunately Vidic and in fact RIo aren't anymore... Hummells would be a fantastic Buy...

Anything on Wanyama, I know there was reported interest in the summer but is it possible for a move in January? I've watched a lot of him as my dads a massive celtic fan and the boy looks like a class act, he's well and truely the yaya toure of the spl and i saw him play in pre season against sneijder and he bossed sneijder out of the game, I think he would be a beast in our midfield if we managed to get him any thoughts?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Lots of people are crying for a strong DM, who can pass, tackle and have energy to run 90 mins. Well he is the answer! He can play in 442 like Keano or the diamond formation and he will come in region of 10m not more than that. He is actually more like Box to box midfielder who scores, he already score 3 goals. He has fantastic attitude and works hard, exactly sort of player we need, infact I think he is probably better option and a better player then Witsel, Vidal and M'vila.
And when he leaves for African cup or when is injured or as a rotation, we have Tunnicliffe or even P.Jones.

I very much hope we can sign him.

Red Samurai

Agree9 Disagree1

Red Samurai

Do you watch allot of Celtics games?

I think he is a good player and has a fair few rough edges that could ( stress could ) be ironed out so he could make it at our level. The biggest issue I have with him is his passing isn't the crispest and players like Kayal and Brown are more capable of that step up right now.

He does have age on his side so is possible another year of big strides will push him on enough but by no way shape or form is he a better player than Vidal, Witsel etc.

Remember he is only excelling in a very, very drab SPL and even then players like Hooper and Kayal shine out even more IMO.

I would much rather buy a player just a few years older and ready now and bring through Tunners than bring Wanyama in.

Just my opinion.

Bond if your about what's your thoughts on Wanyama just now?

Jono {Ed004's Note - Bond isn't about at the minute, it appears old men need more sleep than others, however from what he has said to me he thinks Wanyama will become a top class player and good enough for Utd.}

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree that his "passing is not the crispest' or the best but its good. That will come with age and he makes up for watever he lacks with the Essiend(who doesn't have the crispiest of the passes either) like energy for whole nightly minutes, he physical strength, his presence(game against Inter) in front of the defence and he tackling.
Interestingly, it will be nice to see how he does against Barcelona. I really think this guys is perfect for 4 4 2 or 4 3 3 or even 4 2 3 1. I am confident that he will go to one of the top clubs in Europe where he will flourish. Him and C.Erikson is in mould of Keane and Scholes(i m not saying they are the next Keane and Scholes).

Whats other ed view on him?

Red Samurai

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I watch pretty much every game that celtic play and from what I have seen Wanyama outshines the likes of brown and kayal by far, the only player who seems to get more headlines than Wanyama is Hooper and that is because he is banging in the goals at present, you may question the quality of the spl but you can not question the quality of the champions league in which he is performing. Say what you want but brown and kayal are beneath the boy now and he's younger than both, if lennon could keep two players it would be him and Hooper, no way is kayal or brown worth the 10 million people are talking about for Wanyama

Agree0 Disagree0

Ta Ed

What's your opinion on him from what you have seen?

Jono {Ed004's Note - I think he looks a very good player. Obviously he has a lot of room for improvement but I could see him becoming a top class player.}

Never really wants to comment on the wilshere/cleverley debate, but reading further down the posts, someone wrote wilshere was the best midfielder in is age group.
Let mention few in his age group.
Thiago alcantara, eriksen, verratti, mvila, gundogan. He is just an overrated and overhyped british talent. REMEMBER JORDAN HENDERSON.

Verratti...by some distance.

To be fair, Wilshire is twice the player Henderson is. I'm not saying he is world class but he is v.good. Not convinced by Clevs yet and I don't rate Ramsey.

Boyley

Agree6 Disagree1

Before his injury wilshere was rated very highly, same as the likes of gotze and muniain. We have to wait and see dont we

Mick

Agree2 Disagree1

You've gotta admit Wilshire looked a class act before the injury, the only really technically gifted, continental style midfielder in England since Scholes. We will have to see how well he recovers from such a long spell out though. Cleverly I have been excited with and really hope he keeps improving into the future but I would have to admit Wilshire when fit looked that little bit extra classy

If something of this magnitude was proven to be true, you can bet that it wouldn't be revealed to the world's media anyway. A revelation of this sort would rock the football world in such a way and destroy the image of football to such an extent that it would be difficult to rebuild. If it's true, not saying it is, then expect it to come out in ten years or so, things always have less impact when they are referred to in the past tense! How do we know Lance Armstrong wasn't found out all those years ago, but the swept it under the carpet until now due to his great reputation?

In : Fellaini & Pienaar (both established PL midfielders with bite and play very well together, also arguably the best midfielders so far this season alongside Santi Cazorla)

Out : Any pairing of Nani, Anderson, Bebe, Macheda, Welbeck and Young (All lack the quality/potential to be true United legends)

_________ De Gea

Raf _ Hummel _ Smalling _ Buttner

______ Vidal _ Cleverly

___ Nani _ Rooney _ Kagawa

__________ RVP

Oxred

Agree5 Disagree2

I always like your formations Oxred. Rather than going with the 'diamond' shape as everyone here is doing, you are picking a team to highlight it's strengths, with a few additions. Rooney, Cleverly, Kagawa, RVP and Vidal are all in their preferred positions, and Nani is in the only position where he can be world-class. This is a great team Oxred with 2 additions that actually improve the whole team giving it a wonderful balance.

J Bones.

Julie Gonzalo and Shakira,

wait wrong christmas list.

I'd have to say a replacement for Nani who can play as an inside forward in a 4 3 3 or as a winger in a 4 4 2 and a high energy dynamic box to box midfielder possibly Wanyama. That and trust the youth.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Oxred's lineup too but would prefer someone like Muniain/Isco to replace Nani in the wide AM position. If that's outside our financial capability I would try to get Wanyama rather than Vidal for much less money + replace Nani (I think SAF has had enough of him) + Hummels

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't believe we will buy anyone in January unless vidic's injury is more serious than we know. There are a lot of players coming back and there will be so many guys desperate to get games(jones, smelling, fletcher, anderson). I do believe we will sell nani if a right offer comes in.
