I wanted to thank the Ed's for the FFP post - very intriguing. But I can't believe some had the audacity to " beef " about it!
The amount of pure sh*te they must have to sift through to keep this site running & yet a post like that gets grief - unbelievable!
Love the banter though, this site is on my phone & work laptop as a favourite - it's utterly addictive & interesting to see the difference of opinions.
Keep up the good work ed's!

van persie took off injured 2 nite hope its not serious
11 Sep 2012 21:40:27
This is the thing I hate about Nani and Young they are both very quick when sprinting yet they never sprint with the ball or even try to and watching Koplyanka he is exactly what they are not and that is brave and positive he hits the ball past the defender knowing he can beat them to the ball its great to watch.
Both Nani & Young liked to beat players before the manager put an end to it. They turn back now just so we don't lose possession, when both arrived they both took players on. I do not think it's down to them personally mate.
Sydney!
Possession is great but wingers should be positive it is why they are there they are not wing backs.... It is just an observation I made a while back but just watching Koplyanka an Iarmelenko (spellings) they just get there head down and try to do their job .
I quite like the Ukraine side. Tymoshchuk is a tody player but to my knowledge the only one playing at a top club at Bayern.
Yarmalenko and Gusev are two top players in my opinion who should be art top clubs outside the Ukraine.
Saying that there does seem to be a concern about Ukranians playing abroad as bar Schevchenko at Milan I cant remember many successes think Rebrov, Voronin etc.
Not seen a huge deal of Kopylyanka before the Euros but he certainly looks a talent and last night was really impressed with his pace he was leaving our players in his slipstream when he got motoring and there was always a decent final product.
I have to say with all the crazy transfer fees being paid over the summer I am truly surprised nobody made serious moves for this player, and also for the RUssian Dzagoyev. Transfer gambles maybe but I would hazard a guess at fees of £10/15m perhaps potentially far better players than some that moved over the summer at fees almost twice as high

Questionable substitution from Hodgson by taking Cleverley off when he has been a good outball going forward instead of one of the so called 'Golden Era' who are hurrendous together, Carrick would of been great to play keep ball but no its the usuals. Lescott always has a mistake in him I think.
Clevs missed some great chances tonight, but I was impressed with his positioning. Even with United the ball always seems to find him. Just needs to get that first goal to calm him down.
Sydney!
11 Sep 2012 21:13:48
Seriously we need to question the training our players are doing, Cole and Büttner both gone of injured for reserves, RVP gone off injured for Holland. What is going on!
DB-Red
Agreed, our injury list jus keeps getting worse lately...well atleast clev n welbs made it through safe tonight
1991devil
RVP's knock was because of another player kneeing him in the thigh it was probably a bruised thigh or dead leg unless he was hit that hard that it affected his muscles.
Yeah that's a bonus mate, but on a serious note, we must be doing something wrong somewhere, 2 seasons in a row now we've been obliterated by injuries.

Told you. Cleverly is very, very overrated. How he gets into that England squad before Shelvey, is a joke.
But that's Hodgson doing his bang up job as usual..
Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96
I agree but not for Shelvey he is just as bad......
Here's Blair giving his biased opinion as usual. Come back when uv got a clue.
FredtheRed
Are you mental he was one of best players on the ball unlike Gerrard who looked sluggish and just a shadow of his former self...
Cleverley hasn't even got started yet, he's still in neutral.
How did Allen do tonight, heard he bossed the midfield ;)
Sydney!
Cleverley's all-round game tonight was very good, just couldn't finish.
It is no different to what Suarez does on a game by game basis for Liverpool.
Difference is Cleverley isn't a striker whereas Suarez is.
Sydney!
Shelvey? Are you serious blur? Shelvey I've seen better footballers in the Sunday leauge than him.
Caolán.
I don't get how Cleverley is over rated? He's played 2 handfuls of games for his club, obviously got something there or he wouldn't be in the England squad so soon. He brings a whole new dimension to the way England play, as for his chances tonight, it happens. Dunno why you're been so smug with that C U Next Tuesday playing up top for you who couldn't hit a barn door with a shotgun.
RMD
Did you watch the ENgland U21 game v Norwat Blair? If you did you would see Shelvey isnt ready for the full England side. Clevery, regardless of whether he is over rated or not, clearly is ready for the full England side which is why he is playing

11 Sep 2012 20:32:42
how does milner get in the england team? He's an over rated bucket carrier that city massively over paid on. Yet he's on the wing! He can't cross. Can't pass either. Has the pace of bob monkhouse. All he has is work rate as he runs around a lot like a headless chicken after the ball he's just lost because he couldn't trap a bag of cement or pass! Dire!
I agree completely I think the only reason is to cover Johnson as he is shaky at best... I also think Gerrard and Ox should of been on the bench our ball retention was so poor Carrick would of made up for that and Walcott although poor is still better than Ox at this point in his career and Welbeck should of started above Defoe the game changed when Welbeck and Sturridge came on it is what happens when you play with more than one up front at home against a weaker oposition I just wish we were braver and more positive.
11 Sep 2012 19:51:31
maybe fergie met pep to talk about players? Ask his opinion on someone at barca?
11 Sep 2012 19:40:41
fletch and tunners both in midfield tonight for the reserves. Can only be good for both players. Buttner plays as well. Must be nearing a first start. Good strong looking team mostly, only weakness looks to be upfront with macheda. Mort

Just would like to get peoples opinion on this as i think it would be the answer for the team when everyone is fit:
---------------DDG---------------
-----Jones-----Vidic-----Evans----
Valencia-----------------------Evra
--------Carrick-------Scholes------
------------Rooney--RVP----------
1. Perfect for Valencia and Evra with their attacking prowess
2. Plenty of defensive cover allowing Jones to make his gut wrenching runs forward
Its a 3-5-2 but could be a 3-6-1 if Rooney drops back as a supporting striker or AM. I think this plays to all our strengths except that Kagawa cant fit into the team unless he plays instead of Rooney in the 3-6-1. He could play instead of Scholes it might work but wouldn't risk it.
Thoughts?
Dan
Why wouldnt kagawa be able to play with rooney? he can play as am and rooney as 2nd striker in a 5-2-1-2 where he would be spraying passes to rooney and van percsie.
Now the lineup i would like to see next weekend
---------carrick-vidic-ferdy---------
valencia-----------------------buttner
-----------anderson-cleverley--------
--------------kagawa--------------------
--------------rvp-----chicharito--------
this team would allow us to score a lot of goals and offer defensive stability if valencia and buttner dont forget that they are wingbacks in this lineup. With anderson, cleverley and kagawa passing through the middle van persie and chicharito would have no problem scoring goals especially since their movement is unbeleivable so they free up each other accordingly.
Mick
I think it's a very cocky formation. Personally I think the team performs much better with 11 players.
Danny Pughnited {Ed007's Note - Oooohhh Matron!!}
You have to have 10 men on the pitch to start with. Smalling has to be first choice to pair with Vidic along with Cleverley getting the nod before Scholes who has to be an impact player... As a luxury we should sign Bale to replace Evra as a wing back put Kagawa behind Rooney and RVP you got a great team
I still think a 4-3-1-2 would be our best formation.
For a start you've only named 10 players so I didn't look any further...

French media claims that Nani had agreed contract renewal with Man Utd. Very strange from what I had seen in the last few days in British media.
We can only hope at this stage.
Percy
A contract extension was always likely after failing to offload him. The club will not let him run down his contract.
Signing a new contract doesn't mean we will not try to sell him in the summer, just means he will not go for peanuts now.
Sydney!
You mean YOU can only hope, Percy?
G.A.G.U.S
Syd
Do you only see Nani sold in the summer? Or will there be attempts in January? And if a substantial offer comes in in January, will we see a replacement as the club generally try to avoid business around this time? (These questions go out for anyone's opinion by the way I only ask Syd because he brought it up.)
APC
APC, If a decent offer came in during the January window I wouldn't bet against us selling him. However I do not believe we would replace him til the summer. We will unlikely do any business in January, not on a large scale anyway.
Sydney!
It's clear the manager wants rid so as soon as any acceptable bid is lodged it will be accepted. January, next summer, whenever, it doesn't matter. He is a waste of space now and just adding to the list of deadbeats at our club.
No way forward with him having to get games to promote himself.

okay, so this SAF meeting Pep thing is getting a little silly now. Not just on here but on various other rumour forums.
Everyone ASSUMES it's about the United job, but has anybody considered that they're friends and IF they did meet they were discussing possible tactics, training methods, etc.
It may well have been about the United job if as I suspect SAF will step down in the summer providing we win the league. However I think it's far more likely to be a meet up from a social point of view rather than professional point of view.
With that said, I do think Pep is Chelsea bound.
The Moon.
Agree with you Moon i highly think Pep will be Chelsea's manager next year Di Matteo was always going to be a stop gap for them.
MANRED
Apparently, SAF spoke on the phone to Sam Allardyce last week - perhaps we was discussing him taking over, lol!

Why does eveyone assume that s.a.f has been in america to meet pep. he has been at the tennis during the international break supporting andy murray and im sure he would of met up with the glazers whilst hes there to discuss various bussiness dealings. but to think he would be meeting pep to discuss HIS job is madddd for one s.a.f would not be speaking to anybody outside of his family and maybe david gill about leaving united and for 2 any disscussions concerning the managers job would be done by david gill not s.a.f

Reading that Kagawa might miss Japan's next match due to a back injury. Really hoping this isn't true, we need him and RVP fit! Anybody got any news on whether or not Kagawa is actually injured and if so how serious is it?
11 Sep 2012 12:27:01
More news in the Guardian about a possible move with Fabergas coming to UTD due to not getting playing time at Barca. Putting 2 and 2 together Cesc teaming up with RVP and possible Pep for next season sounds a bit far fetched but u never know.
11 Sep 2012 12:05:14
We need both Rooney, Young and Nani to return on good form over the next week or two. Added to RVP, Kagawa, Hernandez, Welbeck & Valencia we have an amazing set of attacking options for this month. Young will return for the Wigan game and Nani should feature if he can put this summer's disappointments behind him. I have a feeling Rooney may make the Liverpool game although the target is Newcastle in the League Cup a few days later. Hopefully all of our players come back from international duty fit so we can crack on with this month's games.
Sydney!
Syd - you are spot on " we need both Rooney, young and Nani to return......" Out of the three of them we get just about 2 good players lol
Keanooh
Syd, not sure how Young can return to good form, I don't remember him being in good form.
AJH
Nani and Rooney are unplayable when on form. Young isn't too shabby either, did you see the Arsenal game, WBA, Blackburn and Spurs games last season?
Sydney!
Hmm, I must have forgotten them in the fog of his usual mediocrity. I'm yet to be convinced about Young, really not sure why we bought him. Hey ho, happy for him to prove me wrong.

Hope the ED's don't mind me posting this as its an O/T
Its been 11 years since the awful day that was September 11 2001 when thousands lost their lives in the terrorists attacks.
RIP everyone that lost their lives on that dark day
Where were you 11 years ago today?
Giants14
Well said mate - I was in the Cayman Islands - getting ready for a dive, When my wife rang and told me to turn the tv on just in time to see the second plane.
My thoughts go to all those who lost loved ones then and since due to those murderous lunatics.
Mike
Driving down for a meeting in london and listening to the radio, didnt really comprehend what i had heard until i got in my hotel and watched live and re-runs of the crashes.
johndenton
Good call, RIP to all who suffered. Me and my mates were on our way to the airport to fly to teneriffe and it came on the radio a plane had hit the tower then when we got to the airport we saw the second one hit, still can't believe what we saw! My heart goes out to everyone concearned today, god bless u all.
I was in 2nd year in school - came home and flicked on the tele to see the first tower collaspse, orginally thought that it was a planned demolition of an old building before seeing the pictures of the planes.
I can always remember about ice hockey or footy matches back in the day - what happened, who scored etc useless information as my wife calls it, i remember nothing important! but every detail of that day is still fresh in the memory - as a 13 year old then i don't think i realised the true scale of what happened that day and the impact it made on the world.
Still can't believe that 11 years have now passed.
Giants14
RIP to all those that lost their lives and thoughts are with the families who never recovered lost ones bodies.
I was in my final year of primary school when it happened. Seems like only yesterday. How time flies!
RMD
I was in my pit during a free period in 6th year when my brother burst in saying that the first plane had hit the world trade centre. I was like 'what the f**ks the world trade centre?'
I was then hooked for the rest of the day watching it unfold. Now at the time I didn't realise what the whole impact of this would be world wide and have since changed my views on the horrific incident but as its been pointed out the main people are the victims and victims family who have to be remembered and in our thoughts today.
Jono
Well said, I was in school (sixth form) that devastatingly surreal day
RIP to the many innocent victims!

A lot of people on here seem to have judged Cleverely already after barely 20 games for Utd.I've been hugely impressed with him and i agree with Sydney when he said that he's still being a bit careful.A few more games under his belt,a bit more confidence and he'll start expressing himself fully and we shall have a wonderful footballer on our hands.
It's the way of the world now mate. We are a club built on trusting our youth players and bringing them through the ranks, yet some of the fans do not trust them and give them time to blood. People do the same with Welbeck and they did it with Pogba. Some cannot understand that players will progress at different ages, there are plenty of nuggets who think because Cesc Fabregas and Michael Owen were ready at 17, that all players should be ready at that age if they are not then they are no good. Very dopey way of looking at it, but there are dopey fans.
Sydney!
Well said no name
Mike
There are also a lot of players that get built up to be something they are not , people claim they are going to worldclass before they have even had a full season or sometimes kicked a ball for the first team.
This puts unfair pressure and expectation on some times very young shoulders.
The op has made a judgement on cleverly after 20 games and thinks he will be a wonderful player
yet other people have made a judgement that he might not reach the standard of worldclass.
i havent seen anyone say he wont be a good footballer.
my own feeling is that he might not reach the worldclass level but very few do.
I also think its far to early to make a judgement after 20 odd first team games.
but lets keep our fingers crossed because it must be 20 year since we we produced a real worldclass talent.
jred
Very true Jred, people do over-hype youth players. Also some of us have watched Cleverley from the age of 15 and can give a fair opinion on him. 20 games is not enough to judge a player, but watching him from 15 to 23 years old people can see exactly what sort of player he can be if he keeps progressing well. People also act like Scholes was always classed as world-class throughout his career. It wasn't until his latter years that people started seeing him in that light. Same with Xavi. Both wonderful players and very good in their 20's, but it wasn't until their late 20's that people started calling them world-class players. I am not saying they were not world-class at an earlier age, just that people didn't class them as world-class then. Cleverley is 22/23 and could keep improving and who knows what people will rate him as in 5/6 years time. But a big problem is people not giving him the chance he deserves. We should be giving him support, not saying he isn't good enough and we should replace him with Cabaye or Moutinho. Would we have bought Moutinho at 22/23 to replace Scholes? Most certainly not. Cabaye and Moutinho are 26 so lets see how Clevs is in 3/4 years time. He needs games and support that's all I am saying mate. I am not aiming this at you Jred, I think you are one of the fans who believes he deserves his chance. He deserves at least a whole season.
Sydney!
Syd
you hit the nail on the head when you said " if he keeps progressing"
he has to get a lot better to reach the heights of scholes and xavi IMO.
of course xavi and scholes weren't worldclass at 23 but i can remember watching them and thinking they are going to be special players the same goes for becks and a few others.
its just my opinion but i dont see that in cleverly. I think he will be a good maybe very good player , but i dont see that special/worldclass player in him.
hope im wrong
jred
I do not see him reaching the heights of Xavi or Scholes either, but can certainly see him getting close. He is being too careful at the moment and it's holding him back slightly. More games and a goal may just relax him more. If he was playing in the Spanish league he would be a far more popular player. Technically he is very good and his one-touch pass and move game wouldn't look out of place in La Liga. We will see the real TC23 by this time next season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing in the hole against Wigan, he gets himself into some good positions and on another day he would have got a brace tonight. If Kagawa isn't fit then perhaps he will sit in the hole with Carrick & Scholes behind him.
Sydney!

Just a bit of light hearted banter.
Does anybody listen to real radio's fact of the day?
Some one normally phones in a states a quite obscure but interesting fact, however;
the other day a bloke phoned in and stated "did you know that a triangle has more points than Liverpool"
Just made me chuckle!
Karllap
WHY ? - how many points do the looserfools have? - (asking innocently) :)
Mike
actually to be fair to Liverpool I think they could be fighting for a top spot next year.
In the Championship!
Liverpool have 1 point from 3 games
I know I started this topic and is all just light hearted banter with a team that I still see as our biggest rivals but there are more important things so let me pay my respects to all the people that have been affected by the terrible events that happened in America this day 11 years ago

"Schizophrenic penguin"? Someone has to fill me in on that one.
BornInToIt
Gan, I can remember discussing Kagawa with you as far back as October 2010. Both of us were admirers of him although I did have my doubts about him when he come back from his bad injury. He quickly won me over with last season's performances mind. I can remember back around that time that he said he could never turn down an offer for United and his agent mentioned that we had contacted him regarding his client. I imagine if my mate is correct that an agreement was verbally agreed around that time. The manager did say in June that the club have been watching Kagawa for 18 months or so, so perhaps a deal was agreed that he would move to United at a later date. Anyway if true, my mate also says that Lewandowski agreed a similar thing although this was before RVP signed.
Sydney!
Wow - a schzoid penguin - did he feature in "Happy Feet" ?

i see rooney has come out and admited that he tryed to get ronnie booked for nothing a few years back in the world cup match, before of course ronnie got the ref to send off wayne for a bad tackle on carvolho , then the famous ronnie wink happened, just goes to show you that not only is ronnie a far better player than wayne , but a better cheat as well, well wayne is a bit thick-is he not lol...............lfc {Ed007's Note - He only acted thick to fit in where he grew up. Jason McAteer, there you go, argument over and shot to smithereens.}
You can be very cruel sometimes ed007, funny but cruel.............lfc
Jason McAteer was on a plane one time and asked the air hostess if she would open a window because it was too hot...... yeah, that's how thick he is.
G.A.G.U.S {Ed007's Note - Here are a few more:
Jason McAteer's nickname before he went to Liverpool football club was 'Trigger' - after the Only Fools And Horses character because Jason isn't very bright. However at Liverpool they give the least bright person in the team the nickname 'Trigger' and the person who had that name when McAteer arrived was Rob Jones. So after a short while at Anfield the players found out what Jason was like and decided to give him the nickname of 'Double Trigger'
There are a couple of stories about Jason McAteer's exploits. Apparently Jason was in a Dublin nightclub and saw Jimmy White and decided to say hello by yelling a catchphrase that Jimmy would instantly recognize and so Jason yelled out the cry of - 'One hundred and eighty'
Another rumour is that Jason was filling out a credit card application and is confused as to what to put in the space marked 'Position In Company' his source of confusion is revealed when he says to a Liverpool team mate - 'I'm a central midfielder but the boss is playing me at right wing back'
Another story has Alan Thompson an ex-Bolton team mate of Jason asking Jason to - 'pass the tomato ketchup' and the answer Alan gets back from Jason is - 'Red or brown'
Or jason McAteer, asked for his pizza to be cut into 4 slices, because he wanst that hungry...............lfc
He apparently once locked his keys in his new Porsche.
Ruddock told him to go and get a coat hanger to try and break into it and he came back with a wooden one.
ajk
Jason McAteer is very dim. He tried saying getting to a League Cup final was better than finishing in the top four. Only a Liverpool fan can big-up a meaningless trophy as much as they did. The big clubs play their kids in it for a chance to give them experience and it's a chance for the Championship or lower EPL teams to get a trophy, yet Liverpool play their strongest line-ups, get taken to penalties by a Championship side and scrape a win and it's now a massive trophy for the elite.
Sydney!
