We loaned out varela at the start of this season to Real Madrid i think he is with their b team, any of the eds or anyone know how he is getting on, he should make it as a top defender.

{Ed002's Note - They are pleased with him.}

I have a good feeling about Sunday's game. We will score early and go on to win 3 nil
Falcao to start and score twice

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Would love this to be true but can't see falcao starting the match

Agree2 Disagree1

Disagree, it will be a hard fought game and only decided by the odd goal, hopefully in United's favour. I can see sterling causing us all sorts of problems and i know everyone thinks he's a clown, but if ballotelli starts then he will give us a hard time, he likes scoring against us.
I'm not sharing all this optimism of a big victory. Last few matches, apart from Hull, have seen us win in lucky manner and I don't see tomorrow being any different.

I also think this will be of best a 2-1 hard fought win. Rooney/VanPersie. Would of course love a 3 goal win. Looking forward to tomorrow though.

Ed,
There is a lot of speculation regarding Edward Glazer selling 3 million shares and what this means to the club. What is your opinion on this? Is this something that indicating the Glazer's plans for the club in the future or is it not really significant right now.
Thank you

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It means nothing to the club. My view remains unchanged that a sale shall be sought in 2017.}

Excellent interview with Darren Fletcher in the paper today. The guy has had to struggle through so much, just to live a normal life again, never mind returning to play top-level football.

Always comes across as a thoroughly professional footballer, and a top bloke as well. Grounded and well-adjusted, in an age of flash harry's. Gutted for him when he missed out on Moscow.

Even if he doesn't get another contract, (though for his experience alone, I'd keep him as a squad player), I'll always be grateful for his contribution to the club. If only every player took his attitude and work ethic.

Hes a top bloke. He took so much stick when breaking into the team. he's been fantastic to battle back how he has. Proper united spirit. i'd hand him a deal to keep him around the squad and get him helping out with the younger lads.

Thanks for passing along that story. Darren Fletcher is a great professional, a guy with real character. The way he plays the game is such an example to young players: effort, dedication, intelligence, passion.

I was really touched by his story, how he endured it all, and the way he spoke so movingly about his wife, his boys, Sir Alex, and his teammates. Very inspiring.

Agree4 Disagree0

Fantastic professional and hugely underrated when he was at his best. I don't think he will ever get back to it and I doubt he will be kept on, but good luck to him.

Top bloke and quality attitude. Not sure about a new playing contract but i'd like him to be involved behind the scenes for years to come.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think LVG likes him tbh, I think he will be kept in or around the first team until the rebuild is complete 18 months maybe more? :)

I think we could manage a coaching contract with a pay as you play deal on the side. Its no hardship to have him registered in the 25. Be handy given hoe we collect injuries. Giggs had a player/ coach contract I believe so its not like its unusual. he's very professional and has a great attitude. Keep him around and get him mentoring the likes of Rothwell and Pearson.

Is it just me or do any of you feel that we're not out the tittle race just yet? 8 points from Chelsea, City were 8points behind last week now there 3

Believable2 Unbelievable4

{Ed025's Note - its just you mate..

I'm with Ed, its just you. Forget the points gap and look at how teams are playing. Up to last week, people were talking abut Chelsea going undefeated all year. City have had dodgy moments but when they have needed to step it up, they have done so.

3rd is up for grabs as everyone is so inconsistent or poor. We re currently there but have not really convinced. If we can cement 3rd, establish a settled team and style, build confidence, then we are set for next year with a couple of top signings.

Who knows, we might take the FA Cup seriously this year and win it.

We aren't 'out of the title race' because we aren't that far behind, but both City and chelsea are better than us this season, they have more quality and had 2 years to settle under new managers who have the squad they want. We would be silly to think we can win the league this season, 3rd would be successful after last year.

It's a long season and we still have January transfer window and players to return from injury, there's nothing wrong with dreaming!

Its not over until the titles in someones hands so anything is possible in football.

Agree2 Disagree0

Still a chance

12 Dec 2014 13:40:17
Its still mathematically possible, and until its mathematically impossible we're in it.

However realistically I don't think so, unless Jose does a Keegan.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think it is unwise to talk about being title contenders right now. Let the team do its talking on the pitch.

L-fan you are not alone. I think we can still win the title

Agree0 Disagree0

And why shouldn't we be optimistic? All those saying we should be realistic, do you guys expect LvG to be telling the team, "c'mon lads, let's cement this 3 position" for the rest of the season? I for one am happy we are third, now i look forward to second and so on!

Agree0 Disagree0

mbd

I am by no means a doom merchant but to answer your question why should we not be optimistic. We managed a draw with Burnley and lost to Leicester. We have rarely looked in control of games and despite 5 wins in a row, 2 of them were to say the least, fortunate. We have defenders made of glass and are still not clear on our preferred team and formation.

On the plus side, our goals against is not that shabby given how shaky our defence has been and if our forwards click the we should score a lot of goals. However, I still think the title is a big step too far this year.

Agree3 Disagree0

Have any if ye been watching united lately, we are a long way off city and Chelsea, only for DDg we would be around 12th in the table!

3rd spot would be a good success and I can't see us winning the title. If it was a case of having to catch only one out of Chelsea/City then who knows, but to catch both of them would be almost unbelievable. They both have better all round squads and both have played better football than us at times. I hope we keep improving but there is very little to suggest we could win the league. I see this as an unfortunate by product of us winning a few games in a row, that some fans think we can now keep on winning and go straight back to the top when its clear to see that we still have a lot of re-building to do, whilst the likes of City and Chelsea have done the majority of theirs.

As a side note, I think we would be foolish to rule out Arsenal finishing above us. So far they have been shocking, yet still not far behind us. Whatever you say about Wenger, he has always attained top 4 and right now they have some of their main defenders returning from injury, which should settle them down a little. I would like to think we can finish above the Arse but I don't see it as a full gone conclusion, let's remember how confident we would have been about that just a few weeks ago.

Having said all that, I always like to have low expectations so that I don't get disappointed, so who knows perhaps we will win every game from here on in 😊

Agree3 Disagree0

Let's try and get 3rd spot, we've got to do well in the Xmas period and see where we are at the end of this month. Very important period as there are lots of matches and anything can happen. But I can't see both Chelsea and City messing things up. So 3rd will be a good achievement.

"David de Gea to become the best paid goalie in the world on a £36 million deal". As this is being reported in one of the UK red top papers it's probably not true but, if it is, it is something that I think the majority of us would support. I, and virtually every Utd supporter would agree that DDG is one of those few select players that you break the bank to keep as they are fully capable of making the difference between winning and losing every match.
The temptation of going back to his home country and becoming a legend there must be huge but I hope he decides his future is at Old Trafford! He's developed so much since joining us and the sky is the limit!
I think most of us would push the boat out to keep hold of a player like DDG.
Fingers crossed!
