Tonight showed the frailties in the squad, Mata and Sanchez really have no place here anymore. Sanchez is possibly the worst 7 we have had given how much he is paid. Didn't fancy us getting anything when Martial and Lingard went off but we still fought. Not sure how Kimpembe was even on the pitch to score a goal but there you go, the ref had a shocker.

Still fully behind Ole, think he's done a wonderful job and losing to one of the top 3 teams in Europe is no disgrace. We could still turn them over in Paris, you never know.

Fresh we are a way off the top sides, pogba marked out of the game in game where he should be a leader, no top cb at the club,
Ole has done a good job with what he has but the next few weeks will tell us a lot about what type of players we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Feb 2019 04:43:42
There was no threat from right side of the pitch.
It is obvious that we need a right sided forward. Young does not have the legs to play the full back position throughout the 90 minutes in a high intensity game.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 22:18:59
Well that was terrible Sanchez offers nothing and mata is done, dalot should play, big Rom should have came on after 60 an Pogba was stupid.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

12 Feb 2019 22:58:15
Pogba was stupid? That was never a yellow card. He was the one actually fouled. Was a ridiculous decision! We didn't play well tonight but we were a tad unlucky with the 2 injuries and kimpembe should have been off and then goes and scores the opener. That ref was an absolute nightmare. Amateur to say the least.

Pogba was diving into crazy tackles, he was frustrated but should be more composed.

We have just seem the limits of this squad, the best team won and they only played for obout ten minutes.
for a referee this poor to get appointed at this stage is baffling, he was shockingly bad well done UEFA
another Bad decision.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

12 Feb 2019 22:18:21
Kimpembe shouldn’t of been on the pitch but that doesn’t take away from a lacklustre performance. Game changed with our 2 injuries. Ole isn’t a miracle worker. Its not a great squad so he can’t be blamed.

12 Feb 2019 22:18:42
Ref did not lose the match.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Feb 2019 22:24:15
PSG went to work on him. Took every opportunity to take the intensity out of us and slow the game down, then sped up 2nd half. It was a lesson on game management. PSG are still the most cynical team out there and if we'd kept our heads they would probably have lost theirs.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 22:30:39
Ref wad terrible. Sanchez was garbage. Young was poor. Marquinos and veratti were superb.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 22:32:48
Ah lads, that's disappointing. I got carried away in the tide of optimism. I do think PSG are proper good now that I've got the red tinted glasses off. Hope Ole holds it together though and steers us from here because this was a wake up call. They controlled us tonight, Pog, Tony M and Rash were nowhere to be seen. let's not be too hard on ourselves, we all knew changes were needed anyway. Bring on the next game . quick.

People got carried away with the last few weeks, I thought we would go toe to toe but it just proves we are a long way off still, that why there should have been no talk of ole getting the job in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Feb 2019 22:07:38
Got beat by a better team with a squad full of quality.
We also didn't play to our maximum so lots of work to do.
Not sure anybody can question the team selection but its on to chelsea now i hope we got our players back soon.
Pogba was lucky not to be sent off in the 1st half.
Poor ref imo but for both teams.

Agree2 Disagree1

12 Feb 2019 22:20:26
Bad refereeing all round, but the timing was crucial. Their full back should have been off before they opened the scoring. Still a better team, tho.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 22:34:14
The past 2 months for all of us have been fantastic. For the fans, the players and the management. Its taken us from a terrible place and gradually brought us back to the mentality that we should have. The belief that we can beat anybody and anyone whilst playing the edge of the seat footy that we are renowned for playing.
Tonight was an eye opener. I think psg where the better side but the ref was a disgrace and they have a genuine shout at winning the cl. i think they are that touch above us at the minute. Yes we lost and the second half we got schooled but i'm definitely in a much better place than start of December.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 22:56:47
Leahy,

No talk on him getting the job in the summer because we got beat by a better team, his first defeat in 12 games, talk about making rash decisions based on one game. I’m not saying he should get it but tonight doesn’t show he shouldn’t get it just like some of the other games don’t show that he should.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 22:58:41
Of course red tash. I agree with you totally.
Our squad is painfully short on quality and down to the last few years we are very very short on big match experience at the highest level. I thought young was exposed badly tonight. Their midfield 2 shackled our3 very well.
The ref was poor. But pogba should have been sent off in the 1st half along with their cb kimpepe?
All is not lost still plenty to play for and it will be interesting to see how ole and the players cope with hitting their first setback.

Afternoon, looking forward to tonight's game and confident we can get a couple of goals but keeping the clean sheet is so essential. Hoping De Gea won't be relied on to much but CB's will need a strong performance and Herrera and Matic will be key tonight IMO.

As for positions in the summer, it is well discussed that we need a RB in the summer. I think we need to be very clever with our recruitment to avoid paying ridiculous prices and wages and a RB I wouldn't be opposed to signing would be Matt Doherty from Wolves.

Not sure if he has been mentioned but watched him last night and he got up and down the right side, is 6ft so will be a solid choice in defence duels, his combination play at times was excellent last night when going forward and can play of both right and left foot. Also at 27 he is a good age. I personally think he would be worth looking at.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

12 Feb 2019 15:36:25
Doherty is an interesting option ports. I think we should have gone for Cedric before his loan move to inter. We need someone who can rotate with Dalot next season as he is extremely promising but not ready to play week in week out.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 16:17:38
Ports,

If you are thinking the clean sheet is important then I think you could be disappointed, I think there will be goals for both teams tonight. I see no reason why we won't cause them problems at their place in a few weeks as well so in my opinion if we can go there with any lead I will be delighted.

In all honesty I am just happy we have a chance and I can't wait to get there tonight, it should be immense.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 17:20:47
It could as easily be 1-2 or 5-2 who knows.

3-1. Can't see us keeping a clean sheet, but before Xmas, I wouldn't even have bet on us scoring over the two legs, so I'd be ecstatic with that.

I'll be there tonight.

I want to just say that lose or win I all for ole getting the job.
I'm also against signing any big names this summer, we need to get players that are going to do the job and not sign them because of there name like recent years.

Ole deserves the job regardless of what happens between now and end of season, he would be very smart with anyone he acquires for the team.

Rb cb cm rw is all we need.

We should move on mata Valencia darmian rojo Pereira Sanchez lukaku.

4 in 6 out and bring some youth in.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

12 Feb 2019 13:22:22
It’s still too early to make a decision on Ole. We could capitulate in the next 4-6 weeks and where do we go then? Why not make a decision at the end of the season. So far he’s doing great, but I think we should be cautious. If it continues until the end of the season then he will have deserved it.

Also don’t agree we should avoid big names if they’re the right fit. Liverpool signed VVD and Allison and the improvement is monumental. It’s about getting the right fit. Big name or not.

Agree2 Disagree1

12 Feb 2019 13:32:12
Were VvD and Allison big names though? i'd say not compared to the likes if di Maria, Falcao, Bastien or Sanchez they weren't. Or did Liverpool just identify problem positions and go out to sign players to fit those positions rather than just grabbing any bug name available and trying to fit them in.

We need to have an idea on the next manager soon or later because that person will need to submit his list of transfer targets so work can begin on getting them in. Leaving things to the end of May doesn't give us a lot of time especially given how notoriously slow United are in the market. The longer we leave it then things have to be rushed. And that costs more. i'd like to see a decision made by start of April, the list handed on and negotiations under way by mid May.

Agree2 Disagree1

12 Feb 2019 13:32:21
Agree with all that stand.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 16:11:17
It all "seems" easy for Ole now (im sure there's a lot of work he gets through though! @) . but as was topical during the early part of the season we apparently need a DOF, understandably when things are going well this is less of a focal point. However, Ole or Poch or whoever it turns out to be will need support and a knowledge he will not be thrown under the bus when things inevitably get tough. Whatever they (the hierarchy) eventually do, I hope this is considered.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 16:51:56
Mort, I think that's the point of a DoF. The club want "club" signings not "manager" signings. So whoever gets the job come June will have to operate in such a way. The manager will have a say in signings no doubt, but they will likely have to be within a club structure of signings. Signings that suit the style and image of the club.

In that manner the club has an extensive scouting network, and will have the 100's of potential targets.

Although people often forget scouting starts at home. Unless you have a detailed understanding of the players you have you won't be able to identify what type of players your missing.

That has been an issue with constant changing managers over the last 5 years. Not only have we signed players the managers wanted, but they often came up with this list of players with limited exposure to our current players and their capabilities. This why we often saw a managers signings sitting on the bench while players who were already at the club started the game. That was a classic case of money wasted.

Hopefully this new approach should bring some continuity to our recruitment and some stability to the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 18:10:21
That's if you expect us to actually appoint a DoF. I don't think we will. We've been trying for 3-4 years and got nowhere and suddenly we'll have one in 6 months.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 11:02:18
Hey Ed001 what have you made of Pogba in recent weeks? seems to finally be achieving some consistency.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - much improved and actually making a difference now, but still does not do enough in games for my liking. Does all the flashy MOTD clip stuff, but not enough of the actual hard work. You are still very reliant on Herrera doing all the donkey work for him.}

12 Feb 2019 11:47:36
Agree with Ed001. Herrera has played a very important role in Pogba's renaissance.
Pogba is very influential for us now. He seems to be the only player who can pull off the defence splitting pass. He is marauding forward at every opportunity.
Hopefully this continues and Pogba can live up to the expectation.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 11:51:45
Ed001, I am just wondering is it possible that this is the kind of player he is and will continue to be as such any team he finds himself in should have a Herrera-like player covering?
Like at Juve he had Vidal, Marchisio and even Khedira and in the French national team Kante and Matiudi.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes it is what he is, but that for me is why he will never be amongst the best. He is, quite simply, too lazy, and only interested in being a star, not a great. He wants to do the tricks and flicks to look good, rather than doing what it takes to be the best he can be. You can't carry players in every game, they have to be willing to dig in sometimes and he has never shown any desire to do so. If it won't make a highlight reel then he doesn't want to do it.}

mbd

12 Feb 2019 11:56:05
He's always struck as a player who needs someone alongside him to do the shovel work so he can move further forward and influence play around the oppositions box. Especially on those driving runs which leaves space behind. He was the same at juventus and is the same for France. I don't think he's going to change his style anytime soon. Problem is Herrera can't do it for a 50-60 game season.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 13:25:58
He’s a bit like a kid who wants a pony to go showjumping but doesn’t want to do the mucking out at home. He has been very influential in this run with Ole as manager, assist and goals are up massively, but it’s Herreras presence who’s actually allowed this to happen. Without someone doing the dog work for him he’s poor, with that player alongside him he’s great.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 13:56:29
Cheers for the candid reply Ed. I must say, I can't argue with any of the points you raised. Maybe Pogba should see the footage of Rooney's MLS track back and great tackle with the follow up assist, a few times.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - good idea that mate. Or Rush's harrying defenders. Or Cruyff's pressing. Anything like that might make him realise how much talent he is wasting.}

Just to reply to ed's last response. Do you not think that its a bit of a ticking bomb? He's already clashed with one manager who asked him to do more. Ole's approach has at least got him contributing now. But ole doesn't strike me as someone who will over indulge s player nor excuse someone on not doing everything needed on the pitch. As an example his comments post Fulham regards martial and his defensive work. There may be trouble ahead I feel.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 19:45:58
Do you think that attitude could cause problems down the line? He threw his toys at Jose asking him to work. What's to say that there won't be a repeat in the future. Ole has got the best out of him in an attacking sense. But Ole doesn't seem a fool and will want him to work. As an example look at his post Fulham comments regards martial still having defensive work to do. There maybe trouble ahead.

Ange di maria returning to old trafford. Probably goes down as one of the worst transfers the club has done, although sanchez is running him close.

Do you guys think he will get a bad reception? Seems more of a ex player that you just ignore instead of send vitriol at.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2019 10:53:36
Don’t think he will get any form of reception either way tbh, still feel under a more attacking manager he could have thrived here. Ah well, the past, Ole is at the wheel now.

Agree3 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 11:32:16
He won’t go down as one of our worst signings for the simple reason that we recouped a good chunk of his transfer fee. I would assume that he’ll be ignored, and hopefully go missing like he does in 90% of games.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 11:51:00
Di Maria could have been perfect for the right wing role under Ole.
Perfect for counter attacks with his blistering pace.

I thought we were getting the better player in Di Maria when Arsenal bought Sanchez. Unfortunately things didn't turn out well.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2019 11:59:09
The difference between him and Sanchez is that a) Sanchez wanted to come here, the other one didn't, and b) Sanchez does try but doesn't fit the system. The other didn't bother after September. I'm not sure how much can be put on van gaal when you have a player who can't be bothered and is waiting for his agent to engineer a move. A bad signing yes but there's been a few in the post Ferguson era. The worst? Probably but as Danny said we got most of the cash back.

12 Feb 2019 13:34:38
France suits him, he has frogs legs😂.

12 Feb 2019 16:21:02
Sanchez is not far away from having a performance that changes a few minds on here. He should fit this system and I am noticing improvements each time he plays, a fully fit and firing Sanchez could push us to a level none of us expect this season.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Feb 2019 17:31:36
Don’t see it at all GDS, looks like a player struggling to play anywhere near the level he used to. Doesn’t have the pace to stretch defences like Martial, Lingard, and Rashford, and doesn’t have the passing range or presence to play further down the pitch. Can see him leaving in the summer.
