I couldn't give a monkeys who makes the strips, I'm sure they'll go with whoever pays the most. It's all about the money, anyway I've not been that impressed with Nikes last few efforts.

Congratulations to The Netherlands, our new manager Louis van Gaal and of course Robin van Persie on 3rd place at the World Cup. They may have come up short in the end, but they have made their mark on the tournament by dismantling the holders and destroying the hosts. Given the group they were in and the decent at best squad that they have, it is a fantastic achievement. LvG has certainly shown plenty for us to get excited about over the past month as well. He gets the absolute maximum out of his players and he isn't afraid to make big decisions, both qualities that were severely lacking in David Moyes and both qualities that are fundamental for a Manchester United manager.

I can't wait for him to get cracking back in Manchester, get a good tour under his belt and a feel for the club, then hopefully kick off his reign with a good start to the season and who knows where we could go from there?

A couple of world class signings would also be nice over the next few weeks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said, Believe, Van Gaal did very well at the tournament. The Dutch looked mentally and tactically prepared. They kept their shape and kept it simple in the back. I think the Dutch performance will create even more hope and a good vibe as the preseason begins now.

Agree0 Disagree0

My thoughts, exactly, mate.
This was, on paper, a very average Dutch squad.

LVG drove them to 3rd place, MASSACRING the holders, holding the Argies to penalties and smashing the hosts 3-0. INCREDIBLE performance, when you think of it - guys like Wijnaldum, Blind etc are not world-class but a WC manager can squeeze the last drop.

Cannot wait for this season, if LVG gets a CB, a cover LB, a midfielder. dare I say, we can challenge and conquer.

So excited!

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't disagree with with opinions above but I feel a modicum of restraint is needed as lvg will need a bit of time to get his ideas across. Think champions league place is probably the clubs expectation this year and anything else a bonus.

Not related to united but apparently who ever wins tomorrow night will not be given the trophy despite winning it 3 times. They will only be given a gold plated replica. And this is despite there only being space for four more names.

Any one know how Pereira has been getting on with the Brazil u20s in the Panda cup or whatever its called? And also to any regular watchers of youth football, in your opinion who is the better player out of Ben Pearson, Sean Goss and Ben Rothwell.
I appreciate your replies

Of Brazilian descent DJ. He was picked to play for Brazil

What kind of a name is Panda Cup?

Enough with chasing big names as summer targets which have turned into disappointments on the last day of the window whilst we have a lot of good players, I mean excellent who can us into a force this season as we have always been and expected, all at a good price;
Reus £28m buy out clause
Classie £20m
Blind £17m
Sneidjer £16m
Vermalen £12m
Vriij £6m
Gaitan £18m + Bebe
Total - £117m for 7good players

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you really think its just that simple? go out and get these players because we can't get the elite ones. i'd rather we buy nobody than start buying players who are done like sneidjer

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2014 20:05:43
Your over paying for most of them and where would sneijder play?

Agree0 Disagree0

This must be a joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be difficult to pull of playing Football Manager let alone real life.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only 1 I'd be really keen for here is Reus but he's injured so not going to happen and I think a lot will depend on how we fair this season as to whether he chooses Barcelona or us

Hi guys, despite signing Herrera, I still feel we are in dire need of a central midfielder, especially one who could make tackles and dictate the game play. I see Vidal as the best player to fill this position . Vidal and Herrera would be great together IMO due to the fact that Herrera is a great passer and distributor of the ball, can also drive forward, dribble and shoot from long range when required . Mata in the advanced midfield position with Vidal and Herrera would be perfect as Van gaal usually adopts the 4-3-3 and 5-3-2 formation, so there would be no other position for mata to occupy. My concern is for Kagawa, a great player but has failed to prove himself since signing from Dortmund. Wouldn't be a bad idea loaning him out next season.
We also need a pacy, skilful and world class winger like Di Maria or REUS . I'm even very surprised that there has been no offers for REUS from the big teams . Great player! We also need to sell a lot of players like Young, Cleverley, Nani, Valencia, Fellaini, Anderson and so on. We have way too many average players in our team
Lastly, we need a CB . My favourite is Hummels, great tackler and defender in general. De VRIJ has been linked with us, we can as well sign him for 8m£. If we can get Hummels, REUS, Di Maria and Vidal, We would win the PL AND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can guarantee we will not win the champions league this season, even if we sign Ronaldo, Messi, Sanchez, Yaya Toure, Vidal, Hummels, Thiago Silva, etc etc.

Not unless LVG is a magician anyway.

concerns over vidals knee which is being checked again by our doctor's

edds,

should we not take advantage of real sociedad's financial situation and make offers for inigo martinez and antoine griezmann - defender sorted and luke shaw running down that left wing with griezmann!

beautiful!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Buy players whether they are wanted by the club or not you mean? There most be a lot of lower division sides struggling financially that Manchester United could also snap up players from. Must be able to get along to East Fife or Albion Rovers and force them to sell their best players to Manchester United?}

thanks in advance

Eds is there anything new on reus? Apparently pi**ed at Barcelona for aggreeing personal terms then them signing Suarez, do you see him moving this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed at this time.}

Barcelona are a huge club facing a lengthly transfer ban. They'll be spending five windows worth of budgets between now and September and will add at least another £40m onto the £60m they have already raised through player sales.

Just because they have signed Suarez does not mean that they can't afford to sign Reus or accommodate him in the first 11.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where on earth do you fit Messi Suarez Neymar and Reus into a starting 11?! Can't see any of them wanting to sit on the bench, would be some attack though!

Agree0 Disagree0

They can accommodate him in the squad. But with Messi, Neymar and now Suarez, he'll struggle to be a guaranteed starter. Barca have given him something to think about because the best players want to know they are central to a club's plans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rues is better than Neymar, no contest

Agree0 Disagree0

Stand-United,
Its about accommodating all he star players. Even if Reus is better than Neymar don't think Neymar would love to be benched.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just hope marco reus gets better soon, and the suarez decision sways him towards us! (marco, please feel betrayed by barca!) god, i'd love him in utd red!

Hi eds and fellow posters was wondering if there was any news on outgoing players from utd? Is it a case of lvg wanting to take a look before making a decision. I read from andy mitten that lvg wanted a squad of 20 to work with? If that is the case i'd expect a few to leave. Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new.}

Thanks ed. Have a good weekend

Interested to see people's views on Cavani, whether he could fit in with Van Persie or whether he would be a waste of money. Obviously it does assuse that Rooney would depart as don't see the three of thEm staying.
For me his aggression would be an asset.could replace van persie in few years time.
Price is too much though and would sooner spent elsewhere.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Overrated, stay well clear in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Lots out there better and for far less money. He's totally overrated. I would rather get Falcao with that sort of money.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that Cavani is over rated. We always seem to look at players abroad through rose tinted specs. There are plenty of very good players in the EPL that don't get the recognition they deserve from fans in this country. We tend to look at foreign players with envy. I think DiMaria is over rated too, and not sure he would do very well in our league. And Diego Costa is another, though he will improve Chelsea because they are so lacking up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2014 21:22:43
Hi, quick question for the eds, is a transfer not considered to be a football related activity? If it is how can suarez's transfer be completed without contravening the terms of his worldwide ban from ALL football related activity?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is no transfer ban.}

12 Jul 2014 12:40:18
may well be no transfer ban however a 4 month ban from all football activity. surely a transfer is considered football activity? medical not involve football activities also?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no ban on him making a transfer - nor taking a medical.}

FIFA have clarified on several occasions that the ban does not extend to activities directly related to transfers.

Im seeing more and more posts with the"we shouldn't be spending that much on (take your pick) player" "they are not worth it" like Di Maria atm I personally could not give 2 f***s if we paid £600,000000 for him as long as wee have a better season than last let's be honest our club is hardly on the bread line and with supposedly skint clubs like Barca paying out £59+ mil for Suarez and god only knows who the next astronomically overpriced galactico will be you can see you have to pay the piper to get top players.

Hopefully a £75mil bid for Vidal and a £50 mil bid for DiMaria offers that can't be refused

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is always a limit to what any club will spend overall.I think most people talk of money because they think it would be better spent somewhere else, which is very valid. Now this is a discussion about money and has nothing to do with a player wanting to come or not, or whether the parent club will sell him.
People say 47m on di maria is too much because they'd rather have other players for less. Many would first spend on a CB before even considering a winger.
My point is that there is an obvious limit to what the club will spend and people try to make their own budgets with the players they like.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I couldn't give a monkey's if we pay over the odds this summer. It's well overdue. Would people prefer us to spend it on players or for it to go towards paying down the bonds?

Agree0 Disagree0

If we signed Hummels, Vidal & Di Maria I would be amazed. I think Hummels will be difficult simply because BvB are difficult. But a large offer and Hummels forcing a move would change things, can't see him forcing a move though. Di Maria will play for whoever offers him the most money, PSG will probably offer more than ourselves. I think Vidal maybe the most realistic out of the three, but us playing hardball over the price may come back to bite us on the arse. There will be no shortage of admirers. If we signed these three we will be challenging for the title for sure, but like I said I think it's unlikely that we will get any of them. Hopefully I am proved very very wrong :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Time to start buying proven world class players. Herrera and shaw are fantastic additions, but the midfield still looks very week. In my opinion, we need Vidal and a defensive midfielder such as carvalho.
The cb has to be resolved, Hummels will be great and I would have like de vrijl as well.
Winger is a must, and di maria is up there with the best, and very versatile.
So if we want to be playing with the big boys, then we better start buying the best players, and they don't come cheap.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like Sydney says it's long overdue. It's the way we have played football and our unrelenting will to win since the premiership began that has made us so financially strong. The debt takes care of itself as long as we have success on the pitch so we really can't afford not to spend because another year like last year would be a disaster!

Sydney who else do you reckon we'll sign before the window shuts? I'm hoping for 3 more top drawer players .

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamal, I believe the reports that LvG's primary targets are Hummels, Vidal & Di Maria, but I have my doubts that we will do whatever is necessary to bring them in. I think we may end up with Carvalho.

Agree0 Disagree0

The debt didn't have to take care of it's self before those sharks bought the club because there was no debt. I see the scousers are going to give the little big man all the money they get for Dracula . Where do think the £80 mil we got for ronnie went?

Agree0 Disagree0

Over the odds or not. For 5 or 6 years, the Glazers have under invested in the team. We have not had any exceptional youngsters come through and like all things, the team wears out. Sooner or later it doesn't work properly, so here we are. If we have to pay over the odds, the fault lies squarely with the Glazers for not adopting a "replace when necessary" attitude!

Agree0 Disagree0

If there is one player we got a chance with is it is Vidal. We have been after him for ages and if if there was no chance of us signing him we would not have wasted this much time, hopefully I am not wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidal doesn't seem impossible. Evra's on his way to Juve, Juve are supposedly open to negotiations at least. Plus, they've fancied Nani in the past, surely a bid of say, £35million plus Nani would be hard to turn down?

We could then turn to replacing Nani with a new winger - Di Maria seems a longshot to me. Someone like Memphis Depay would be a lot more attainable and would give us some fresh legs on the wings.

Add a CB, and a backup LB to replace Evra and we'd be looking very, very good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Will you be happy if we try to sign them 3, even if we don't manage to pull it of

Agree0 Disagree0

Depay is unproven. If we want to compete we have to buy top talent. Di Maria fits the bill.
Also, vidal will be great but carvalho also needed. Carvalho vidal and herrera will give us an excellent midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed NoMid but I think it will be a case of either Vidal or Carvalho and that is a no brainer. I imagine Strootman will be brought in at some point over the next year, providing he fully recovers from his injury like.

Would a midfield three of Vidal, Strootman and Herrera be enough to appease your obvious dissatisfaction with our midfield options?

Agree0 Disagree0

Di maria, great ability, awful in possession

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I'd be happy with just one of those three plus two other alternatives, I just hope we do put in a lot of effort this summer. Hummels and Vidal would improve us so much.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rump, definitely. I think we're well on our way with herrera. Just need vidal and a dm and midfield will be fantastic. I'm sure lvg will sort it out.
I think the sooner the better. Players need time to settle and get to know their team mates. So hopefully we can get the transfers done quickly.

What happened to the lad Davide Petrucci?
Is he still with us?
Remember signing him about 5 years ago.
He won the best young player or something earlier in his United career.
Got injured. Wasn't he dubbed as the new Totti. And he was loaned to Peterborough too.

How has he been performing these days? Does anyone have a clue?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know he's had a terrible run of Injury's think he might have missed his chance with us but when he did play looked a great little player.

First post in over a year.

Does anyone here have a list of all the players that will travel for the US Tour? Would our youngsters be travelling?

I'm quite eager to see Lingard, Powell, Wilson, Ben Pearson(maybe?), Angelo and the Keane brothers in action.

Have grown tired and frustrated with the number of opportunities given to the likes of Ando, Nani, Young, Cleverley Valencia etc.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No idea who will go. Agree with most of your suggestions though I would also add Janko to that list. He looked great last year and I wouldn't be surprised if he saw some bench time this year as cover for Raphael.

I'd rather see him at RB than Smalling or Jones.
