It's a shame about Martial wanting to leave. I'm a big fan of his but I think with most of his performances, my heart ruled my head. It's the curious case of when footballers don't play they tend to become better players. Always calling for their inclusion when they're not selected but when they do play, they don't put down a marker.

I think Martial is and will become a much better player than Rashford but he's obviously not going to be content with only playing a handful of games. I was really worried when Jose said he wasn't going to recruit any more attacking players after the signing of Sanchez. I was worried because Lukaku, Sanchez, Mata, Martial, Rashford and Lingard in my opinion with whatever combination of them you play, haven't showed that they are clinical enough when it matters over the course of a season. (Lukaku is excused) .

Martial will more than likely go on and become a world class player but right now I'm looking forward to the player that will hopefully replace him. Bale or Griezmann would be the dream. We need a truly world class attacking player if we want to catch City and improve in Europe.

The only thing I'm worrued about is what type of fee we can receive. We have been negligent in the past when we sell our players. We get bent over a barrel when we buy and seem to get bent over a barrel when we sell.

Sorry to see you go Tony but I'm incredibly excited about your replacement!

Mumbles. If you grossly overpay for a player in the first place, you can never recoup your money, especially when a player has performed below expected potential. I like Martial when he hits one of his inconsistent highs but the clubs that can afford inflated prices are not going to bite unless they see real consistent value. Unless we cease be so daft in the buying market we will always suffer when selling. We need, among some real grafters among the stars we have players who know that there place depends on weekly team performance not profile. Talk of Ronaldo and Bale makes me cringe. The are are at the peak of their career, will only come for top dollar and however we'll they might transform the team will depreciate rapidly especially as we will have overpaid to start with.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2018 09:09:16
I can't say I'm disappointed if he's going. A few moments of brilliance but he's hardly Giggs. I think he slows down the play too much, always pausing and letting defenders get back into position before trying to beat them rather than knocking it and going when he has the advantage which is more like Rashford plays. Defensively he is a liability and in todays game you can't carry players, you have to attack and defend as a team. I'll stick my neck out and say I don't think he'll ever be a top player and that's a shame because he has the talent but can't be bothered with the effort. We know someone else like that as well who I also wouldn't be bothered if they left the club.

13 Jun 2018 22:40:16
I know it's not FIFA 2018, but l would try and get Verrati and sell Martial to PSG as part of the deal if he wants to go. I think Verrati is quality, great attitude and passion for the game. A leader given the chance. We can but dream!

Or with Dybala Martial redcon? Not really fussed if he does leave, needs to go play in a team where he won't have to fight for his place.

14 Jun 2018 08:06:21
Players come players go. Martial is a player i would not be desperate to keep. If he wants to leave then he has every right to do so as long as we receive an acceptable offer.

I don't think we have revived an offer. I don't see a host of clubs looking to sign him. So we will just have to wait and see. There is talk of spurs and juve if we can leverage martial against one of the players we would like to sign from them then it would make sense.

Martial is a player with great potential sometimes a player can't fulfill his potential at a club for 1 reason or another.

Id love to see him go on and do well elsewhere and i have no doubt his replacement will do better for us than martial has thus far. That way everyone is a winner.

King is dead long live the new king.

I'd offer martial to Madrid in a part ex for Bale. Not sure they'd take it mind.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2018 22:01:28
Bale would replicate Martial's time on the bench with his time injured.

If we're talking super unrealistic swaps Martial and cash for Dybala.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jun 2018 22:51:50
Madrid might like Martial as a player but Martial might not fancy going to the same situation all over again at Madrid, being second choice much of the time. I would think he would want to go where he could be more of a guaranteed starter.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 21:32:29
So Martial's agent has come out and said that he wishes to leave United. It will grind a few gears on here but I personally see it as a mutually beneficial situation for both club and player.

I don't think he has progressed as much as a player and his end product especially leaves a lot to be desired. I like him as a striker but not as a winger. He would go for a big fee in this market and since we haven't renewed his contract since he joined he is on modest wages and would be easier to sell at a higher price.

I see Jose buying a right sided winger to provide balance to the side. A winger who has a consistent cross / end product on him and is more direct in gameplay. This would probably get the best out of Lukaku, Sanchez and Lingard who all make great runs into the box. Perhaps another striker who can hold up the ball and is good in the air to take pressure off Lukaku and to give him some rest?

Our attacking options currently are very unbalanced imo and we do need some rebalancing there. Martial leaving and a right winger coming in would make a lot of sense to me personally.

13 Jun 2018 21:45:48
Personally I would prefer to keep him but you can't blame the kid, or justify having both him and rashford as cover for the lw and st. Both are in critical moments of their career and I would prefer to keep rashford if pushed. I was all for sanchez, tbh a lot of us thought he'd go straight onto the RW, but unfortunately not. 70mill plus and we've a good deal imo. Hopefully out of the premiership. Great little player when he wants to be but their are more pressing concerns than losing a squad player who clearly isn't happy. Whether he hits his potential elsewhere or not.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 21:49:49
He has the potential to be a better striker than lukaku but mourinho would never play him over his favourite.

I agree though, I think it's best he moves on. I guess only time will tell if it's the right or wrong decision.

Agree1 Disagree2

13 Jun 2018 22:13:00
His agent has got a nice dig in at Sanchez . "all going well for him until the january window and we know what happened then"

A lot of truth in that though, Pogba, Martial and Rashford lost the dynamic since Sanchez came but I guess he is here to stay.

Only hope we don't sell him cheap now.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 22:19:12
To go public weakens our negotiating hand. Can’t blame the player for wanting to leave. He had fought his way back into the side, and Jose brought in a direct replacement. Personally sad to see him go, think he has bags of potential and will do very well in the right team.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 22:33:36
He won't be missed. Good talent, not enough hard work, strolls around the pitch without a care. Blame Jose all you want, up to the player in the end.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jun 2018 23:00:14
II hope Martial stays, it will be a shame to see him go. A tremendous talent, natural dribbler, composure in front of goal, but some of his situation is his own fault. Sanchez coming in, though, did not help him at all, nor the team. Martial has to be burning up inside watching the world cup from home.

With reports suggesting that Jose is steering clear of Rose and Alderwield now, most likely due to trying to negotiate with Levy, I was wondering about what happened to our reported interest in the PSG LB Kurzawa? Surely he is a cheaper option for LB and a decent option as well? I also made a point recently that a CB I’d like to see come in would be Boateng from Bayern. Keep seeing rumours if the right offer comes in for him Bayern would listen. I’d be happy with Kurzawa and Boateng coming in as cheaper alternatives to Rose and Alderwield with both bring the same quality IMO.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

13 Jun 2018 14:54:53
I don't rate Boateng at all. Looked dodgy McDodgyson at City and then whenever I watched him for Bayern or Germany he was just cruising with no pressure. A bit like Hummels, rare occasions when under pressure they look lost and I bet any of our CB's would look just as Rolls Royce playing CB for Bayern most weeks. I'd seriously rather have Smalling and Jones.

I like Alderweirald but he is a defenders defender, we need a Rio rather than a Vidic for that type of money, so I'm quite pleased if we have moved on. I haven't seen enough of Kurzawa to comment, but we 100% need a LB if Shaw isn't fancied.

Agree3 Disagree2

13 Jun 2018 15:49:42
Kurzawa is average at best and boatang while decent is injury prone, how many more of those do we want in defense.

Ideally we should get rid of Smalling Jones rojo blind and darmian, get a good young cb like de ligt or pavard and get someone like bonuci to be the experienced guy if we can't sign alderwierld.

Lb we should be trying for Sandro, we have no width and stacking lw's all of whom like cutting inside won't solve the problem.

had reservations regarding alderweireld and not sure on rose so if its true we've stepped away ;all good especially in relation to levy who is difficult to deal with and unrealistic in his valuations.
Would like skriniar as cb but we could be suprised.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 18:20:03
I still think Alderweireld is our main target, Spurs will lose him for less next summer unless he signs on so I think a deal can be done. Rose I’ve never been that keen on, Aaron Martin still an option? Who was that other Vettel back Ed002 said Jose remains keen on, Lopez?

Latest rumours have us in for Verratti. He would make a tremendous addition and give us something different - he could run a game with his passing, set the tempo, give some fire and leadership in the middle of the park.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

13 Jun 2018 14:28:47
Zidaniel. I wish this were true but i highly doubt it.
Ive asked ed002 on a couple of occasions and he said psg would rather keep him and if a move does materialise it would be more likely that he would end up in Italy or Spain.
He is my favourite midfielder in Europe at the moment. A lovely player and a great attitude on the pitch.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 14:37:47
I think Verratti would be most people’s favourite and what an addition he would be but personally, I can’t see it happening.

Trying to be logical about things, in terms of numbers, with Carrick retired and Fellaini probably off, I assume (rightly or wrongly) Fred and one other CM coming in and my money is currently on Savic being that player.

One HUGE deal which is highly unlikely but wouldn’t surprise me is if Raiola was trying to negotiate Verratti to United and Pogba to PSG. I bet it won't be long til those rumours surface!

13 Jun 2018 14:39:31
Perfect signing for us if it can be done. I've made a few bob on him in recent weeks on Football Index, seems to be growing traction on there, (prices rise a lot quicker when Utd are knocking - bit like real life) .

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Jun 2018 14:48:58
I agree, Ken, I am not getting my hopes up. He is a great passer and a midfielder who will battle with some passion. That kind of personality would bring some leadership on the pitch, something we could surely use.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 16:37:41
Hasn't he been ordered to lose weight over the summer? Also his work rate has been questioned? Sarri said he turned down psg because none of the midfielders are runners? We Jose likes a midfielder with work rate and can run a bit.

Probably because most of them were a waste of time. Very few undiscovered talent was found and the players loaned out didn't really progress playing in the Belgian 2nd division.

Jose pep and klopp all go into next season without their trusted no2's / assistants.
Who Will fare better?
Will we notice any difference.
I think we might have most to gain and the least to lose seeing as our play was the poorest from the 3 teams. Any change to our coaching style can only be a positive surely.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2018 09:39:11
Interesting point ken, didn’t realise pep had lost an assistant as well. I agree think we have the most to gain. Some fresh thinking and ideas to jose’s Team, which has consisted of his trusted, close knit group for many years, should provide some positive results. I think Klopp will struggle the most without buvac. Apparently he was the ‘brains’ of the operation. Interesting to see how this plays out.

Is shaw going to get another chance i wonder?
Or has jose got another wild card like Dalot on his radar for the left?

Jose has said he sees ashley young playing 50+ games next season. Most likely him and valencia will be first choice full backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 09:08:08
Would be embarrassing if so, we need better across the defence if we are to seriously challenge. I would be happy if Shaw was given a full season (and could stay fit) I think he’s got all the attributes.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 09:23:28
Welsh,

Embarrassing or just not your preferred choice? Young had a great season and got himself into the England squad, always gives 100%. I agree we need better but it isn't embarrassing to have an England left back at left back.

Agree1 Disagree2

13 Jun 2018 09:37:38
Luke Shaw should be the embarrassed one that he can't shift a winger turned full back out of the team.

Credit to young he's been top.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 09:42:29
Cannot be going into the season with young and Valencia as full backs. Jose will have had 5 windows to sort these positions out so it is inexcusable if they are not addressed. I think we are in for a left back but we are just biding our time with Sandro. He still hasn’t signed a new deal and there seems to be nobody else in for him. Perhaps looking to reduce the asking price. Apparently Juve never seek a big ‘star’ player before season tickets close. Did the same with pogba when they sold him to us. I expect young to be back up to a new signing.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 10:14:02
I just hope that if we don't sign any lb or cb, jose fanboys don't point to young Smalling and Jones to show how hamstrung their Messiah is.

Agree5 Disagree2

13 Jun 2018 10:24:16
The Jose ‘fanboys’ will not do such a thing csm. If he doesn’t address these areas then he will be held accountable for it. Simple.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 10:33:26
So Jose has come out and said how well young has played and that he will be an important part again next year .
Maybe the truth is Jose rates him and that's why he plays him week in week out, even if many fans think he shouldn't?

Agree2 Disagree4

13 Jun 2018 10:34:38
Personally i'm not a fan of a fullback being touted as able to play on the left or right especially at such a young age as Dalot - should be making his name in one position (right back) to build up an understanding with the rest of the back 4 and hopefully develop an understanding with the right winger . if we ever get one.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 10:53:34
Jred maybe he rates young. But if he persists with him at left back then he will be looking at the sack by Christmas. I wouldn’t believe the media tbh. Ed002 has said we are looking at a left back so let’s just wait and see what happens.

Agree3 Disagree1

13 Jun 2018 12:04:11
Correct me if I am wrong but did not rojo play left back for Argentina in a world cup final? Good enough for Argentina should make him good enough for us.

Rumours continue of the guy from Augsburg.

Rojo isn't good enough at left back.

13 Jun 2018 13:54:20
Club have just give rojo a new contract some one must rate him.

Agree1 Disagree3

13 Jun 2018 13:58:15
Rojo is 4th choice lb behind young blind and shaw. So that is an indication of his capabilities at lb. He is awful there imo.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 14:21:11
Allan, my abiding memory of Rojo in WC final was being inside his own area on the left, turning back to play it back to the keeper, seeing a forward lurking, changing his mind . then going forward 6 feet, turning back and playing a blind pass all the way across his area to the right back who was forced into putting it behind for a corner because of the lurking forward closing him down that Rojo had forgotten about 5 seconds earlier.

Never a top 4 team defender.3 good games in 10.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 15:43:01
Park I would love for that to happen but every mourinho defense post has a mention of our defense while completely ignoring the fact that he keeps starting Jones and Smalling over 2 cb's he bought. So I will believe it when i see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 15:48:46
And that’s being generous lol. He makes smalling look comfortable on the ball take the hoof away from Rojo and it leaves him with nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 16:53:38
Allan that is questionable logic. You are basically saying any international player should get into our team when the fact is that the top club teams are far better than any international team. Argentina are average without Messi and Rojo isn't anywhere near the standard we require.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 17:28:10
Mort
So we have committed millions of pounds over the next 5 year to pay rojo so that we can sell him .
And don't forget pay his contract up if he doesn't ask for a move .
As well as run the risk of the player just stay and taking a place up in the squad?
Or maybe a team give a player a contract because they want him regardless if so of the fans rate him.
