With de gea in such good form and seeing casillas looking like a shadow of his old self I'm resigned to us losing de gea to Madrid this summer. (myt just be Scottish side always thinking the wworst :) just wondered what people thought would be a realistic valuation for him and who are the genuine options we have to replace him.

Thanks. First time poster but read on a daily basis keep up good work eds sites awesome

AberdeenRed nice to have you on board mate and welcome to the site.

Like you I feel with an extension yet to be signed De Gea may seek a move at the end of the season. Having said that I think much will depend on if we qualify for the CL when he considers his future come the summer.

As far as replacements go I really would be struggle to say straight up who that would be. De Gea, Neuer, Courtouis and Lloris (he may leave Spurs but Levy won't sell to us or will want a very large fee) are a step ahead of everyone at the moment. The Ed mentioned Krul which I hope doesn't happen. I feel if he leaves this summer Valdes will be given a chance as No.1 next season.

14 Mar 2015 08:18:54
Yeah, I remember Ed002 mentioning Krul a few times. But Surely that would mean the plan is to have Valdes take the the No.1. Why would LVG want a his second choice keeper internationally to take over the No.1 at United?

Welcome aberdeenRed. I spent 6 very happy years living there when I was at Uni. Beautiful city. I met my wife there too, so it's not all good.

The Ricardo Rodriguez rumour on Twitter doesn't make much sense.

I remember at the end of the world cup Rojo and Rodriguez were my two candidates for Left Back.

But now that we have Shaw and Rojo and Blind as cover we don't really need Rodriguez.

Should focus on getting a very good right back.

If LVG continues to play 5-3-2 next season maybe he will want left footers on the right and vice versa the way the modern day wingers are set up to play. Just a theory but I think the rumour of Rodriguez is rubbish.

JMB, just my view on what you said, but "opposite" footed full backs are usually best deployed in a 4 at the back formation, usually like a 4231 formation like Munich have played over recent years. I think the idea behind that is having 2 wide players in the "3" behind the CF. These wide players are generally "inverted wingers" who are often "opposite footed". These will often cut inside onto their " good" foot, thus cleating space outside them for the overlapping full back.
Of course, there have been left footed rights backs and vice versa over the years playing in more traditional formations and done very well. Wasn't Dennis Irwin naturally right footed?
Like I said, just my view. But whatever formation we play, I think the manager / club would be very footish to replace Luke Shaw already. We invested heavily in a teenager who is no doubt good enough, and at such a young age could and should be a settled starting player for club and country for the next 10-15 years.
There are other positions that are far more in need of addressing before we start tinkering at left back. Again.

I agree Betty. I like Shaw hence why I said the Rodriguez rumours are rubbish. I suppose with the rumours of Depay etc coming in then opposite footed fullbacks wouldn't make much of a difference if you play opposite footed wingers.

Or maybe in the future he thinks Shaw could develop to be a LW like Bale.

14 Mar 2015 22:46:43
I think Rodriguez would be more inclined to become a left mid. The guy has assisted and scored plenty this season so far.

With rumours that we Mat again have aninterest in Rodriguez of Wolfsburg. Was wondering what this means for Shaw.
Would he be a challenge adding depth (both are too good for bench), does LVG not fancy Shaw? Or are they looking to do a Bale with him and convert into attacking left winger who can defend, as well?
Or just usual Internet rubbish and we are not interested.

Rubbish for me Brad. I think Wolfsburg are a few players away from challenging for the Bundasliga next season so I can't see any their top players leaving. They have wealthy backers and don't need the money.

Having said that when you look at the players Wolfsburg has aquired over the last two years in DeBuyne, Schurrle, Gustavo, Rodriguez, Perisic etc for the prices they paid it makes our £150million layout last season look ludicrous.

I want to get this clear, is true that funds were not made available for Moyes during his time as manager of MU? I find this difficult to believe considering the fact that Moyes went after the likes of Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabrigas and also spent a considerable sum on the two signings made during his tenure. He would not have done these if funds were not made available.
Is there any other fact to back this argument or it is based on what was reported in the rags?
Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not really clear what you are talking about - players were purchased so funds were available.}

13 Mar 2015 15:30:44
Thanks Ed. The post is meant to clear the air on the believe of some of our fans who claim Moyes was not given the backing he needed compare to the fact that his successor spent a considerable huge amount last summer.
For me it is more about the manager's ability to convince the sort after players on his project for the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was time he was not given. Plus there was resentment from some of the staff.}

What do people think of Miralem Pjanic and kevin de bruyne as a Midfiled Partnership with Blind/Carrick playing behind these 2?

Recently we have been missing the link between our Midfielders and our Strikers, the final ball is just not coming(thanks to or tactics of playing every ball to fellaini).

So the aforementioned players may bring the creativity we have been missing lately.

@Eds, do we have any interest in Griezman??

I rate Pjanic very highly, if we can't get Modric then we should get him.

Pjanic is very solid and very creative, he would need to be alongside a Gundogan or preferably a Matuidi.

Hey eds, can you tell me if United are looking at random player x, from random club y? He has been mentioned in the tabloids recently so that must mean he's moving. I have him in my Championship Manager/Fifa team and he's really great. I've also watched a handful of youtube clips (backed by some generic trance/techno) where he looks world class. Even though I must be aware on some level that this isn't a rumour, but an individual leap of imagination, can you tell me what United's specific plans are for this random player?

P.s. what have been the developments on De Gea, Depay, Varane, and Sneijeeedeirrr?

With all the murmurs around Ancelotti at RM do we think it is a possibility we will make a run at bringing him in. Based on:
1. Rumour was he was the Glazers first choice last time
2. The Ed's have previously indicated same behind the scenes unhappiness with LVG
3. He has already don't it in the premier league and elsewhere.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

13 Mar 2015 11:03:29
I think if we miss out on top 4 we would try for him and LVG would be gone as he has not met his targets. If we do get top 4 the only manager we would swap LVG for is Pep. That's my view anyway.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 11:28:11
Ancelotti has 3 CL wins which is a great achievement .

However, He's been a manager for 20 years, almost all that time with top clubs in their particular countries and has won two league titles so far, and has mostly taken over ready made teams, so no guarantee he's the man for a rebuilding job

13 Mar 2015 11:32:46
I think we are going for CA this summer either we make top four or not. Remember what the Ed said about 'a super agent' trying to make the deal to either of the Manchester clubs a possibility. I think we are very much interested coupled with the fact that LVG has upset one of the top guns in our boardroom.
It is just going to how we will manage to pay off LVG and at the same time, meet the financial demands in regards to securing the signatures of CA, which is not going to be easy. My opinion please.

What are peoples thoughts on Kondogbia as an option for our defensive midfield? young strong quick good feet and at 15m could be a good bit of business. I believe we had a look at him in January last season before his move.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

13 Mar 2015 08:13:25
You do realise Monaco signed him from Sevilla less than 2 years ago for 25 Million Euro. What Makes you think they would sell him for 15M?

13 Mar 2015 09:06:43
That's clarity for you JaMax.

Agree1 Disagree2

13 Mar 2015 09:31:14
It's the same with Depay. People are branding around figures like £10-15million. Daley Blind came from the same league and hadn't made half the name for himself Depay has and he cost around the £15million mark.

Depay is the leading scorer from the wing in the Dutch league, scored goals in Europe, has been racking up assists, Philip Cocu claims he can be the 'next Robben' (so he is obviously rated very highly) and is much more marketable (hence his new deal with under armour). So what makes folk think PSV won't be looking for big money for him?

Agree7 Disagree4

13 Mar 2015 10:48:49
Maybe its the reports Monaco have touted him with a £14.5m price tag Jamax

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 11:04:19
Depay is also out of contract next year though which will halve his price. And if he wants to leave, he will. £20-25 million will be what he goes for.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 11:19:24
and kondogbia was signed for 11m not 25m his 5 year contract was around 25m

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 11:39:26
JMB, maybe that is because it is reported that Depay is having one year left on his contract.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 11:55:07
Now that we've established the validity of the post what are peoples thoughts on him being an option?

13 Mar 2015 13:18:08
I like the cut of your jib, clarity.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 17:58:45
I must admit I have only seen kondogbia in a couple of games so can't pass comment but depay has certainly shown great promise. He still isn't the finished article but considering the alleged price it doesn't appear to be too much of a risk considering what he may potentially develop into.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2015 18:42:26
My Mistake Clarity, You are correct on that but I still don't see him going for 15 Million. He is young, talented, and already made an appearance for the french national Team. I see him costing atleast 20 Million.

Regardless of what he costs I think he is a machine and would love him to bolster up our midfield. He is strong, fast, breaks up play and has time on his side to develop even further.
