Much as we may dislike it Man City were very good in demolishing Arsenal today, look like Champions to me. I wonder how many of our players would get in their team. I'm struggling after De Gea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well. Cleverley, Young, Welbeck, Evans, Buttner. the list goes on mate so I don't know what you talking about?!

Prospects we have heard about for January:
CB - Mangala, Zouma
LB - Baines, Coentrao, Sandro
DM - Carvalho, Matic, Song
CM - Herrera, Gundogan
AM - Guarin, Koke, Ribeiro, Sneijder
W - Di Maria, Reus

I can't see any of the players in the CL last 16 leaving, so Reus and Gundogan are a dream, though Di Maria maybe. I don't think Sneijder is what we need. He will want to play behind the striker, and a player to partner Carrick is far more important.

We are getting slow at CB, I would love to get one of Mangala or Zouma. In the short term, I think we all agree Rio does not look good, and that recent play when Lukaku manhandled Vidic is still replaying in my head.

I would love to see Carvalho come in from Sporting. Apparently our scouts have been six times to see him. He is 6'2", just 21, has a presence at center MF, and has some ability on the ball.

I also like Matic from Benfica. He is a lanky 6'4" lefty who tackles hard and is a fine passer. Maybe Vidic, his Serbian teammate, can put in a good word.

It sounds like both Herrera and Song have no interest in leaving right now. With the season Atletico Madrid are having, I cannot see Koke leaving, he is vital to that team, and has come up through their ranks.

Whether we play 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, it is the player next to Carrick that we need the most right now. Cleverly is absolutely not good enough, maybe Fellaini will adjust in time, but at the moment, Fellaini and Carrick is too slow a partnership, and Cleverly is too lightweight. If we get someone who can keep the ball and move it forward at pace, then hopefully the creativity of Rooney, Kagawa, and Januzaj can blossom.

Ribeiro the Brazilian looks exciting (big surprise) but Brazilian defending looks a little different than the Premier League.

Maybe there is a gem out there we have not heard about yet. The public courting of our prospects was embarrassing. Hoping for some good news in January.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pjanic

Agree0 Disagree0

Carvalho is very good prospect, but he's young. If we buy him, he should be used carefully. Matic is an OK player, physical in a non physical league, it will be a big mistake to sign him. He has no flexibility and no real pace.
Fernando from Porto will be my pick for immediate impact. He played very well against the athletico midfield recently. He also totally bossed matic and carvalho in their encounters last year.
Fernando is strong, has good presence, quick, can dribble and pass. And Porto are out of CL so should be easier to prize him away.

Agree0 Disagree0

We will bring in no one, Moyes has totted out the same old excuse, a quote from Today's Observer"Manchester United boss David Moyes says the money is in place to make a major signing that would demonstrate the club's ambition - however he might not be able to do a deal in January". So just get behind our team and pray we can actual complete in the transfer market next summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Empty

I believe we will bring in 1 maybe 2 quality signings. No world beaters as none is available but players who will improve us. Matuidi and Lewandowski would be nice:) now that would quite some of the pessimist even if we have to wait till next year.

If things get worst this season and it becomes apparent that Moyes can't continue then who would be the three names on your short list to replace him?

For me it would be Klopp, Simeone and Laudrup in that order.

Who would you have?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I agree with them. Short term though Fergie, Heynckes or Bielsa}

Shappy

Moyes will be here come next year this time. It looks like we could end up with a quarter final spot in CL and do not write us off from there as crazier things have happened, not talking about winning it but could end up being a semi finalist.

We are screwed with Injuries at the moment with RVP, Fellaini, Carrick out and need to get through the next 3 weeks without any more defeats and wait on reinforcements. He really does not have as much to chooses from when it comes to the team and it almost picks itself. If we do have end up having bad results, I do not think it will affect his position at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Biesla with OGS as his assistant manager, to take over in a year or 2

Unless Klopp is available. Everybody wants Klopp

Agree0 Disagree0

In terms of whether Moyes will be here this time next year, my only point would be that the Glazers are businessmen. There were empty seats for the European game, is Moyes going to be able to attract or play the football to attract the crowds or the top players going forward. Are we going to attract more sponsors playing the Moyes way or attract the top players to play for Moyes?
We cannot afford to miss out on the top four and by January 1st we should know whether we have a realistic chance. Moyes has until then for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was just thinking how disgusting it is that Clarke has been sacked after all he's done in recent years. Just shocking, what do West Brom expect from their club?! They've been over achieving in recent years.

We need to give Moyes time to build his team. Get behind him. Constant dreams of these other flavour if the month managers just serves to de-stabalise. Let Citeh and Chelsea try all these random managers out, they go through a couple a season on average.

Agree0 Disagree0

Di Cannio, Warnock or Holloway for me.

Wot? I'll get me coat then!

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes will get 2 years at least imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Klopp conte or simeone would be dream choices but Rene mulenstein or OGS would also be great choices

Agree0 Disagree0

How does OGS or Muelensteen qualify to be United's manager mate. If we are going to criticize Moyes for not winning anything at the top level, those 2 have not even managed at the top level.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder what we would do with Conte if we had missed qualifications from our CL group :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see the point of this Moyes won't be going anywhere soon

Agree0 Disagree0

Ogs has won the championship twice in a club that had never managed it previously in 100 years. So he has won two trophies more than Moyes.
Ogs is also very astute and was that even in his playing days. If he is right hand man to a more experienced manager, then that will be formidable.
What has qualified Moyes to be United's manager? I can give you twenty other choices who have gone on like Moyes for the past 11 years and won nothing. Does that qualify them to be United manager.
My preference will be klopp with OCS as right hand man. That will be a great partnership. And the sooner the better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Moyes will be leaving any time soon, and certainly not before the end of the sesaon.

The question was more hypothetical, I was interested on who people would go for now and whether who people would want has changed since before Moyes was given the job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomid

I have a place in Norway and know the place very well :)

Trust me OGS is a long way away from managing Manchester United and it is ludicrous to even think just because you can manage and win at Molde you are ready for the PL and United.

I think the next step for him would be to demonstrate he can win at Championship level football in England, before we even go there. Love the guy, great person and know him as well.

Having just watched Manchester City beat Arsenal, and the talent they have at their disposal, we are clearly far off the pace. It's hard to think of any United outfielder who could guarantee a first team place. Would you really take Rooney and RVP over Aguero and Negredo?

It's going to take precious time, and (in the words of George Harrison), a whole lot of spending money, to do it, to do it, to do it. right. Yeah!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Picked them all along to win the PL. I think they lost Aguero today to injury but they are loaded and Nasri is in great form. Silva and Kompany are back from injuries and will kick on.

Has anyone ever won all their home games in the PL, I think they might end up doing that.

We need 5 to 6 players and 2 years. Will not win the league this year or next year I reckon.

Rooney commented on how Moyes' methods have reaped their rewards in terms of his own personal fitness. "The training is different, there's a different style, a different way of thinking about how he wants us to play, honestly, the training has been so hard. We've done a lot more running. Long running, quicker running, sharper running. I feel that's really benefited me. I feel as fit as I ever have done."

Rio was known to have a training programme designed for him last season and interestingly SAF designed the timing to get him ready for certain games which indicates Rio knew when he was going to play in advance. However after Rio's outburst it is clear Moyes has changed that and Rio didn't play well in his last game.
Then let's look at RVP, known for his pre game preparation standards, he has been thought to be unhappy at the training methods and particularly the focus on more running. So on 67 minutes he injured his thigh while taking a corner, enough to put him out for a month, yet stayed on and I wonder if anyone noticed any change in him during the game. Of course if the injury was exacerbated or even caused in training after the game then it would have brought more criticism. Criticism is something Moyes confirmed he was concerned about receiving if he took RVP off during the Newcastle game. Making that decision to avoid potential criticism is concerning.

Tomorrow is a must win game and decisions need to be made including how many we play up front and how deep our back line play especially with Villa's pacy forwards. Perhaps the emerging power of City will wake the club up to realise we are in a very risk situation.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I said before the season started that city had bought very well and most on here thought they wasted their money. I think we are seeing how far we are from matching them.
We're 9 points off 4th spot, and again I was ridiculed for saying previously that we will not make 4th spot.
I think our chances of 4th spot are very slim. There are four very good teams occupying these places not to mention Everton who are also playing well and spurs who despite the mediocre start they've had, are still ahead of us.
I think this puts everything in perspective. We have dropped 9 points at home to teams we should beat easily, and these points will not be gained easily.
Over to you Moyes, wonder what tactics we'll play against villa?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomidfield

It may not be the tactics, but whether the players believe in them

If we don't win tomorrow how long can this go on?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomidfield

End of the day, you get what you pay for. When City won the league, SAF went out and demanded we bought the best striker in the league. City on the other hand, got complacent and made a few minor signings. we ended up strolling to the title with our new striker single-handedly winning us a good few vital games.

This summer, we got complacent and refused to address pressing issues in our first team. City went out and spent well, on top-class players. They have had their hiccups, but they are now reaping the rewards and we are in 9th place.

This is the big leagues, if you don't spend and keep improving what you have, you will be overtaken in the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

City have had a better squad of players than us for the past 3 years. Yes they spent big on players in the summer, but their best signing was the new manager.

how much do you guys think ross barkley would cost? good addition?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

More than fellaini

Agree0 Disagree0

22 million something and a bag of those warm nuts I see in the pub that have travelled all the way from the desert. Using my best addition that would maybe cost 22 million and 2 pounds paid across 5 years not including vat and other related costs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you Moyes would have to pay 100 million anyone else 30

Agree0 Disagree0

Hands off SF1.The boy's not for sale. You've had Rooney, Moyes, Fellaini, you might still get Bainsey if you think you can afford him, but Barkley? You're having a laugh. Why would he want to move to a mid-table side when he could be playing CL football for the club he supports for years to come?

This is honestly one of the toughest fixtures that I have a preferred result for. Would like a city win to give United a bit more hope at the title. But for the fact that I think United don't stand a chance at winning the league, I'd rather have arsenal win it to up our chances of a top four finish. And for the fact that if I could pick any team to win the league this year (other than united of course) I'd pick arsenal

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree if united don't win it I would prefer arsenal (or any other team that isn't built on sugar daddy money - except of course Liverpool for obvious reasons). That said I picked city to win it at the start of the season and stick to that prediction. Can't say I blame ma sour or abramavich for spending what they have done though in a free market its up to them. I don't expect things to change much with ffp though.

Ed what do you see happening with Rio and Vidic this summer? Do you think they will both leave the club? I think Rio will go but not sure about Vidic.

I Couldn't agree more with Bfro's post below about Zouma.
It'd remind me of missing out on Varela! I was convinced we got him, then he signed for Real Madrid and showed us all how class he is with outstanding performances against us in the champs league.
Zouma looks a class act too, and to get him early so he gets some tips from Rio would be great. It's sad to see how much pace Rio has lost but he certainly oozed class when we signed him. A perfect balance of the Rio/Vidic of old would create a great defender indeed.
But let's not forget Evans, he has come on leaps and bounds! Just won 'Defender of the Champs league group stage'. Fair play

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you not mean Varane? The CB. Varela is our RB I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Doh! Varane! #!**##!

With the January transfer window upon us and the rumour mill well and truly underway players names are being banded around so much (per usual) that we don't know what players we are truly interested in and who we ain't interested in. and with United's midfield almost non existent please can you give us a few names that you believe David moyes will be looking at in the January window or even the summer

Brendan81,

Just like to apologise for incorrectly stating that you had tipped United for the title. I know you've said 3 times you haven't and like you say I'm sure the regulars will vouch for you.

Thus I can only assume when you posted the below back in September you meant Newcatle United to win the league and that you felt Manchester United were so bad you wouldn't even make the top ten.

07 Sep 2013 18:52:19
Put this on yesterday but don't think it was posted.

Everyone seems to be putting predictions on, so here are my top 10 for this season.

1.United
2.City
3.Chelsea
4.Spurs
5.Arsenal
6.Southampton
7.Liverpool
8.Villa
9.Everton
10.Swansea

Brendan81.

If that is the case do you see today's game against Villa important in your battle to stay up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's not the only 1 who is premature in his posts. We play Villa 2moro.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan81 - Marcellus is still an person, but he has stitched you RIGHT up there, mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmm Marcellus I wonder how many predictions u have got right over the years?
Dnt worry that's not a threat!

Brenden I think classellus has a new man crush, ohhh lucky u lol

Agree0 Disagree0

That post was in the midst of everyone wanting to top themselves on here at the poor transfer window and trying to get a bit of positivity going. If you want to spend a few more hours and carry on searching my posts (sad b*stard) you'll find all the posts I have made stating we'll finish top four and no better. You do seem to be far too interested in me though I have to say. A bit worrying when we all know what you Chelsea fans do for a living. Let me just re-iterate, I am not interested in you or your assless leather chaps, and I will not be handing over any money.

Hope that that is clear enough for you, although you are southern, so probably not the brightest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan, your last comment made me laugh but more because you probably just insulted most of the utd fans reading.

I'm a confirmed northerner but I'll leave you in that hole on your own. no way I'm jumping in with you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha come on Andrew don't be soft :-) southern United fans have to be given extra credit though, as they have obviously had the brains to choose our great club, so they aren't your typical brain dead southerner ;-)

Please, please, please don't play rio today. Against villa's pacey forwards he will struggle if a ball is played in behind.

Evans and vidic at the back. It would have been Evans and jones for me, but jones will be needed in midfield. Play zaha, give him a chance to prove himself. If he fails then send him out on loan to gain experience but at least give him a chance.

Come on Dave try something diffrent. Glad to see Rene has made a good start at Fulham. Should still be at utd.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've read a number of posts talking about todays game against villa. Dunno if it's just me but I'm pretty sure the game is tomorrow;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point Nik Legend SA, dithering Dave has got me so upset I don't even know what day of the week it is. But whether it is Saturday or Sunday Rio could not catch a cold with his pace. Time to retire and become our defensive coach and club ambassador. With his standing in world football we might be able to attract some decent players. Try and convince giggs to retire as well. Two true united legends, but both lost that yard of pace that makes all the difference. Gigs brain works twice as fast as any other player, unfortunately his legs don't anymore.

Great to read Januzaj saying he wants to stay at UTD forever, etc etc. Found it interesting how he's come out and said that he sees himself as a Number 10. Could that be his new, regular position if Kagawa moves on and Rooney gets the move he probably wants?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, I too was delighted to hear Januzaj say he'd stay at Utd for life. that's a reality check for all the Pogbas of this club who have been more interested in money than the dedication to practicing your Art at the highest level possible with the right people. My hats off to the young man for saying this a re-affirming to everyone: United are the best team in the world and no-one should be thinking jumping ship. Its all hands on deck cause Utd will be riding high again soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree that it is good that a talented player wants to stay for life, but if we don't improve the squad he will leave. Don't gloss over the fact he said he also wants to win things. Also enough of the Pogba bashing. Pogba has gone on to prove he was right and Fergie was wrong. He was good enough to get more games. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play regularly and having confidence in your own ability and if we are honest we need him more now than he needs us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Roman. But Jomo, a word on pogba, he might be big headed, petulant. But you can't accuse him of not wanting to practice and perfect his skills. That's why he was voted the best young player in Europe.
Problem is the Ferguson didn't give him a chance, and actually, I think pogba would be very happy to be here if he had been given a chance.
