Quick quiz for you. and no googling. 3 overseas players have played for both United and City. Name them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tevez, Schmeichel, Kanchelskis - and no googling!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tevez, Schmeichel, Kanchelskis.

Agree0 Disagree0

Name two players to score free kicks, for opposite teams, in the same match, and then go on to score hatricks for united.

You could have added Law, assuming Scotland counts as overseas?

Which sea do you go over to get to Scotland?!

Do any of the eds think that united will try and buy some world class talents in january or will we wait until summer. I personally think we should be giving some of our youth a chance, players like zaha, januzaj and lingard. Also why are we still playing as a 4-4-2 when we have the players that can play as a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-1-2 this would help us to get more control of the midfield and give us more of attacking threat. If we played as a 4-3-1-2 we would be able to play both Kagawa and Rooney together and still play fellaini and carrick with januzaj or any of the other midfielders too. If there are injuries to Rooney/Kagawa/RVP then welbeck and Hernandez are available. What do people think

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, with this formation we would have enough numbers in midfield in order not to be overrun and Kagawa with Rooney and RvP all at their preferred positions would strike fear into any team.I can't understand why Moyes hasn't tried it yet, since we are in a period of transition.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only Moyes can answer this one. He seems the only one who can't see the problem with 442.
I'm also worried about losing zaha and kagawa. I fully understand that Moyes is involved with the players every day, but no one is going to tell me that zaha, as raw as he is, is not better than young, nani or Valencia.
Even England looked more exciting than us, and that's worrying!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomid

England were more exciting because they had 7 or 8 players all busting forward and almost got caught a few times and lucky to not concede for Lew's poor finishing.

I am amused that you think Zaha is better than the wingers we have, if he is why is he not getting picked for united or the national team.

Valencia for your info was very good in Euador's qualifiers ad Nani had a very good game. I guess you believe all the footballing coaches, who see this guy in training everyday are persons and can't tell he is ready.

He is not ready neither is powel so get used to seeing what we have until we buy some established players, which we know what we will get when they play.

Our issue has been fans overhyping players and the reality is they are stepping in to a league that is so tough and being found out as not being ready.

Our wingers poor form is not an individual thing but directly related to our weakness in midfield and until we sort that out, they will all continue to struggle.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can fully understand why moyes would send zaha out on loan the lad has talent but needs to sharpen up his game and get rid of the rough edges. Imo he needs a constant run of games away from the pressure of the United first team, sometimes you have to take the long term view

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, do you honestly think that nani, young, Valencia are up to the task? Yes, I do I watch Intl football, and in fact I was in Portugal watching them beat the might of Luxembourg. All my Portuguese friends think he's the most overrated player they have.
How many games in living memory have any of these three won the game for us? Bet you were thinking for ten mins as you can't remember one!
If we're going to go by your theory about playing well for their countries in midweek, then I will have to point you in the direction of England u21, where zaha played brilliantly.
Any wing play, will be an improvement on young, nani and Valencia.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred

I agree and hope he gets a premiere league loan so gets used to the quality of the competition.

It would do him no good if they throw him in when he is not ready and he has an absolute stinker and with the british media and especially being a United player they will have a field day and Moyes unrelated to the media and of performance will have no choice but to not play him and that would be another story for the media to go nuts with.

Although completely different case, Just look at the Januyaj situation as they are just making stuff up now and quite disruptive.

Agree0 Disagree0

God created that's my point exactly

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomid

I did not say nani, valencia or young are up to the task but believe they would be much better if they had decent attacking midfielders around them.

Your views that Zaha is an improvement to what we have is not shared by the coaching staff and I have never seen him against top quality opposition so personally impossible to have a definitive view but trust the judgement of the professionals at the club.

Playing U21 for England does not give any player a Pl pass and especially not into the first 11 at United.

There are quite few players in the england U21 that do not get any game time with their respective pl teams and some are at championship clubs as I had never heard of some of them until I saw the last England U21 game.

Finally, not trying to start an argument but think a lot of people are rightfully frustrated and betting on the wrong horses to save the day, we need much higher calibre player/s than zaha to fix our current issues.

So 4 home games on the run to get our season well and truly back on track. Let's hope for 4 wins and then maybe a bit more positivity from people on this site who seem to have written their own team off because of a couple of bad performances. Looking at the fixtures I think with 3 league wins we would be top 4.

And John Denton, I will raise you, I will give £100 to cancer research if we don't finish in the top 4. I have no idea why you are so negative or what your problem is, but to suggest we are as poor as you make out you clearly haven't seen a lot of our players play. Most of them have never even finished outside the top 4 in a premier league season (including van persie) why suddenly are them players not good enough?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gds2, its not the players that are not good enough. They won the league last year, so they must be good, and with a few additions could be very good.
No, the problem lies with our manager, the system he's deploying, and the inexperience of all the management staff.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see us competing for the title till the end no matter what the outcome is.I'm certain that we'll finish top four, completely agree with you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop being so reasonable GDS, we need disproportionate stress and panic:

The end is nigh, oh yay oh yay, bring out your dead (wood), sell the first team, sack the physio, hang the chief scout, WE'RE TURNING INTO LIVERPOOL!

Meanwhile in the real world Moyes sets about trying to build a new title winning team, and I'm still supporting him.

Agree0 Disagree0

DodgyBanter,

Really, that's nice to hear, pray tell me how Moyes is doing that?

By spending £4million more than he needed to on a midfielder who has shown nothing so far? And not ensuring we strengthened in areas.

By not playing a talented Zaha but sticking with the lacking Young, Nani and Valencia?

He'd better tie down Januzaj very soon, that's the only positive we've seen from Moyes' tenure so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

RED_SKY

Surely the £4m extra being paid was the fault of Woodward and not Moyes?

Agree0 Disagree0

Red sky

DM has dropped Young, are you keeping up to date with the facts

Agree0 Disagree0

GAGUS - True.

Byron - for one game yes. Let's hope he wasn't just rested.

so your saying were playing ok are you? beat by an average liverpool side with virtually no attempts on goal, home draw with chelsea who didn't want to attack and settled for a draw, destroyed by city who took there foot off the pedal, it took a freekick, a non existent penalty and an even poorer red card to get us past palace, and then the wba game where we were 2nd best.ive seen every player we have and watch the res and u18, s and see better football at the junior games than 1st team level. we have partly down to fergie an average ageing squad and a manager who isn't a big enough character to succeed in my opinion.the football we have played this season is very slow build up and very disjointed confidence is low and body language of some players doesn't look good especially rvp who other than the swansea game has had no service at all.

midfield is still a massive problem west brom's 1st goal was similar to spurs last season when they just ran from there own half and scored an easy goal. fellaini again in my opinion has done absolutely nothing yet and 27.5mill could of been better spent.the transfer window was a joke and I don't think we will spend big in january due to decent players being cup tied or probably waiting until the summer to make sure we eventually qualify for champs league.

i am not negative I just tell it as I see it at the games I don't care wether we win or lose (i obviously prefer us to win) its not the be all and end all of supporting our club, and even if we go pete tong and slip from where we are usually so be it I will still be at every game supporting the team like I've always done when all the glory people have jumped ship.if you want to blindly believe everything is ok at utd and were playing well that's your prerogative I will just go off what I see and what the league table tells me.weeks ago you and a few others were saying time to step up we now have 6 winnable games now the goal posts are moved again and we now have 4 home games to get the season going, it ain't happening yet if it does great if it doesn't so be it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Janusaj will start on the left and nani will start on the right. Valencia had 2 tough games in SA and will most likely get rested.

Don't be surprised to see rio and vidic as starting cb pairing. I don't like it but something tells me he will go with them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johndenton. You are spot on in your appraisal. I think people have got to get the blinkers off and comment on what they are seeing in front of them.
We have not dominated in any pl games. In fact the opposite is true. Yet, some think we're just going to crank the engine up and play like barca. It ain't happening. And for as long as our manager makes stupid selections and plays amateurish tactics, then we will achieve nothing.
As you say though, it doesn't mean we love the club less, on the contrary, it means we're even more eager to change for the better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gds

We have southampton, stoke and norwich at home in the league and then fullham away, which might be relegation candidate.

I agree that if we are going to be seriously contending for a top 3 spot these games are must wins especially given out start. the next 4 weeks will tell us a lot about how this year might turn out to be.

November/december the fixture list gets a lot harder and trickier and we will lose some.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johndenton I wish I had written that excellent post, if I had I would have been slated for being a troll and a Liverpool fan which I am not, but it does seem that posters are beginning to say and think along the same lines as I have for quite a while, as for the next 4 winnable games let's wait and see, but great post

I think if big players are genuinely interested in joining a big club they will honestly consider us. A key factor for a lot of players when joining clubs now seems to be playing time. We can offer that to a few top quality players of the following positions; LB, CM, LW.

I am aware Kagawa hasn't gotten much game time, but in each match it is either him or Rooney that plays the attacking role just behind RVP. Rooney offers more than Kagawa in terms of defensive work and work rate plus he scores more, which is why Kagawa isn't playing in his preferred position behind the front man.

But a quality LB would certainly be ahead of Evra and Buttner. A decent CM would play ahead of Cleverly, Anderson, Giggs, and likewise with LW. So for people saying nobody will sign for us because of Moyes, I think players would look at the bigger picture and be happy to join us.

hi, I agree with most u said, but I would have loved to see kawaga play behind rvp, because i'm sure if moyes play's with tactics suit kawaga he will deliver more assist's and goal then rooney if moyes give's him a chance and do u think other player's will want to join us if we play longballs in every game. they will look at what happend to kawaga and will not join us unless they are good in the air our play longballs, and moyes does not like player's like kawaga so do u think if messi could have joined us would he have liked to play like everton did, no. moyes will get some player's but forget about top and good technical player's as long as they pass the ball on the ground and not in the air, no chance for moyes to get them. if u don't believe me than watch what kind of player's moyes will get or go for ( those player's will not be as good as gundgan or reus they will be more like young or cleverly type of player's, but don't worry if utd struggles and is not in top 3 or even top 6 then it will be change's, we are worlds biggest club so I don't think glazer will let them sink) we will find out about it soon enough ;) thenew52 zee

I'm hoping that the international break has done us some good.
Smalling, Carrick, Welbeck and Rooney all played well for England and should come back with some confidence and pride in qualifying. Zaha played well for the U21's also and should now be given a chance. RVP scored a hat-trick and has become the leading scorer for the Dutch. Hopefully these players will bring back some confidence and pride with them which transposes onto the pitch. Moyes needs to build on this.
Also Moyes has had another couple of weeks to get more 'comfortable' with his role. I hope he has used the last fortnight to consider the start to the season; what has worked and what has not and he will start to implement his style and ideas onto the team.
Still a lot to do though. Hopefully Moyes picks the right players and sticks with them through to January where we can bring in some much needed re-inforcements.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will interesting to see how things go this weekend not just for us but the rest of the teams up in the league table. A couple of weeks will have done guys like vidic, rafael, rio, Januyaj, jones a lot of good as we are looking at a lot of big games coming up.

Whilst we were fortunate, where the bulk of our team played at home and no travel time and with 4 days to recover they should be all available.

Kagawa and hernandez will be out of question I am presuming but the rest are good to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Smalling didn't play well, he looks so oafish it's untrue. The more I watch him the more I can't see him playing as a regular centre half successfully for us. I know he was playing on the right, but it doesn't matter his touch and reading of the game is shocking.

Rooney looked great last night, linked brilliantly. Shows what you can do if you have pace around you, Townsend, Sturridge type players are needed to get the best out of Rooney, Kagawa, RVP etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

MrSween I thought Smalling did ok playing out of position. The game and the result will have done him good and I would like him to start alongside Vidic with Rafa and Evra at fullback. If we can give Smalling some more confidence and a run of games I think he will come good. I would then look to bring in a new left back in January to play alongside the three of them in a settled back four.
Certainly agree about Rooney and that we need an injection of pace. Zaha can do what Townsend does given the chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Jones will be twice player Smalling is at centre half. Fergie saw that. Not sure Moyes has lol.

I think Smalling is a squad player only. If we are in for a new CB in the summer it will be to partner Jones longer term surely?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think smalling needs another 24 months and needs to bulk up a bit and also improve his positioning. CB generally come good much later in their careers so he has time on his side.

Ed if we just manage to add Baines, Hererra, Mangala and Koke we will be home and dry

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Umberellas for sale @ £1 each . even Moyes would buy one

Agree0 Disagree0

Coentrao, koke and one other quality midfielder would do. however it is evident the club feels rio needs replacing and what we have is not ready/good enough yet.

Shahram, I get the feeling that Moyes isn't happy with Evans. He has hardly played a game and both Smalling and Jones have been played ahead of him this season.

I think we could see both Rio and Evans leave next summer. If that is the case then we will need a centre back as we will only have a 32/33yo Vidic along with Smalling, Jones and Micheal Keane who are all inexperianced.

I think we will see a CB, LB, CM and a left sided attacking player. If were lucky we'll see two CM's. If not then Powell will have to step up and make an impact on the team a year sooner than planned.

Personally i'd like to see a Midfielder and left back come in during January.

Then another midfielder a centre back and a left sided attacker in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy spot on with transfer list 2 in January would be great, I would rather have 2 midfielders as evra is still decent to play as long as we don't have him busting forward, which is where most of the problems come from.

Someone pointed out that Smalling is not ready and I tend to agree. I think his positioning and reading of the game is not polished enough and whilst he will have a great game he is also likely to make major defensive blunders by his positioning and decision making.

Jones is a better CB in my view and hope we see him get a run of games there as any partnership will need games to gel.

Hummels looks like on his way to barca and garay is excellent on the ball but not great pace, Zouma is very poor when it comes to passing and distribution and not good enough for us, that leaves Mangala and the guy who plays for Inter and the guy who plays for Roma (can't remember names) as the best 3 choices in my view but both will cost a lot and more likely a summer plan as we have other urgent requirements.

Anyway it won't be long before we are linked with 2 dozen players and I honestly would not have a clue who we will be after given our summer activity.
