I have a long drive to and from work and for weeks now I have heard two jingly adverts on talksport. First one was "why not be at Old Trafford as a season ticket holder, seeing more trophies than Sir Alex". Now for the last few days I also heard a second advert, "where will you be watching the Spurs game on Monday" ring xxx for tickets.

Since when have Manchester United been begging for Season ticket sales, or to try and sell tickets on the radio only a couple of days before a big game. After all we are playing Spurs, a so called glamour tie. No doubt the club will spin this but to me it is a clear sign we are struggling to sell tickets and that means diminishing income. That could explain the rush to do a Singapore share deal and the lack of truly big spending.

One final point, everyone has just written the PIK's off as not our debt. However the PIK's were the Glazer debt and if they were replaced by a high rate loan in the Glazer name this would very likely be the first loan to be repaid by the Glazers leaving us with continuing debt issues and falling ticket sales.

hey guys one things for sure we will n we need a cm to compete with barca n madrid.dont know who though.
also did u guys see madrid in supercoppa, over two legs they controlled barca even when no summer signings played for them(except coentrao).barca were having same 11 in 2nd leg that started at wembley against us were missing a couple of their premiums in 1st leg.
mourinho has done a fab job with madrid n this season they will do barca in the a** doggy style.
he never spent big at inter or madrid.ozil, khedira,di maria, sahin at madrid.all are in 20 mil range.
sneijder,milito,lucio at inter
he spent madly at chelsea coz they were trying to make it with the big boys i.e. us n at the time chelsea werent an established brand like inter n madrid.
so he is the special one for us in the future.
also we say we will sign players who want to be at united n dream at the theatre not money oriented wannabe whores.
shouldnt same thinking be accepted for saf's successor.

I have to say that disappointment doesn't even come close. Three players in - DeGea, Jones and Young, all pretty good players but nothing to keep Pep Guardiola awake at night. None are yet regular full internationals and Barcelona strengthen by buying Sanchez and Fabregas Sorry, but if Utd are serious about challenging Barcelona they will need to purchase three or four world class stars not a handful of potential youth players. Fergie won't see another CL Final before he retires on this evidence."

If you look at all the papers you can get such a mixed and confused view of things, here is how i see our squad..

Goalkeeper: Sorted.

Defence: Possibly one experienced face that can play across the back, but i'm just being greedy..its not really important.

Midfield: The area that has been talked about so much... Over the last few seasons United's chances have mainly been created by wide players, this brings up the question do we need steal in the center of midfield instead? Perhaps, however when your playing Barcelona you can't just have steal (like Real Madrid) they can still pass through you if you don't keep a hold of the ball. None of our midfielders keep the ball well enough. Paring someup with Anderson or Fletcher as these are the two most energetic players in our midfield would be perfect. The required player doesn't necessarily have to be an AM. Rooney's enjoying dropping deep and he will be scoring goals by doing so. However having a slightly more attcacking minded player that can sit deep also would be perfect as Rooney still has room. The two ideal players for this are undoubtly Modric and Gotze. I think Modric would be perfect and probably my first choice, we've bought Spurs players before so it wouldn't be a bad shout. Also we can get Bale off them next season perhaps. If we do sign someone this season then Gibson will leave on loan or permamently, if not he will stay as cover.

Strikers: We're well covered at present, even with an injured Chicha. I'd like to see Macheda go on loan to a side such as Everton or Blackburn where he will play each week..he can then return to the squad as a reaady made replacement for Berbatov who will be gone next year if not next. Would also like to give Diouf a chance, he's a decent fringe player and has scored a handful in pre-season. Next season i think Owen will be leaving..this will mean another striker should be brought in.

Formation: 4-4-2

De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani/Valencia, Fletcher, Modric, Young/Nani, Rooney, Hernandez. I think Park will unfortunatly get fewer games this season due to the arrival of Young, he is an excellent player and i hope he plays.

Ins 2011/2012: Modric
Outs 2011/2012: Gibson (loan), Macheda (loan)

Ins 2012/2013: Bale, Rodwell, E.Torres (would like Rossi)

Outs 2012/2013: Park, Carrick, Giggs, Berbatov, Owen

It's simple if we don't replace scholes the only thing we'll be contending for is the premier League and FA Cup but if we do invest and replace Scholes we have a great chance of winning the CL and competing with Barca, SAF knows he needs a world class creative central midfielder as it has been proven In CL final 09 and 11. If you think about it he hasn't improved the team in a creative sense he's sorted Utd out defensively and given us more width, he has the same team more or less so how can we compete with Barca? Cleverly is a good player with great potential but he is not ready for the likes of Barca as it's too soon.

Afternoon all,

After an interesting few weeks, here are my thoughts. Nasri is a great player. But I never thought he was on our radar. Mancini has his work cut out trying to keep all the players happy and I believe this is where city will come unstuck. There isn't a togetherness like at united or even chelsea.
As for our "next" signing...I don't believe that we will go for a playmaker. I think a dominant midfielder in the makelele role is what's missing. Someone who will take the ball off the back four and start a move. I get frustrated watching carrick shirk the responsibilty. Fletcher hasn't got the finesse in his play (will be interesting to see how that illness has affected him as he has a great engine). As much as it pains me to say it, I wish we had yaya toure. He drives his team on and on his day is up there with the best in the world. I get so annoyed watching our back four hit so many long diagonals out of defense.
I wouldn't mind a 25mill bid for schweinsteiger. Someone with some presence and power. I think anderson wil come good this year in a more attacking role.

Just my opinion.

We have a great squad but very young. We need an experienced midfielder up to the job consistantly now especially over the next 2 seasons. These are probably Sir Alex's last and he will want to win whulst leaving a legacy for teh next manager.
Wesley is a proven winner, still young enough to get value and capable of making a big difference at teh end of the season in the big games. He will also balance the side with the youth unbder development. Remember young players are less consistant.
We have lost a lot of experience out of the squad this year and more will go next year. VDS, Scholes, Neville, Brown and OShea to name a few. We have to have some experience in the squad.
Methinks we are just negotiating hardball as any one should for that kind of money. People say the number like it is a few quid. If he can be got within our business plan we will get him.

THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMM........
scientific research done a few years ago was done on the perect football kit colour, and it confirmed that a all red kit is the most commanding colour, and it helps for players perpendicular vision, also the red colour demands the most respect. with this in mind ,and iam not being funny here why dont utd switch to this.i mean do you wear black shorts or white shorts and socks , or does anyone even really know.you must admit its a bit untidy looking.even if it gives you a slight edge in scientific terms would utd supporters be happy with this, the only thing is we would always be know as the oringals and maybe you would have to wear a little tag inside the collar saying copyright lfc, but hey golly gee if it helped you take on the mightly barca it would be worth it-no............lfc {Ed007's Note - Aye and Jurassic Park said we can make dinosaurs, lfc mate, you my son are bonkers!!! Where did you get this from? Has science in Liverpool got past the wheel yet? Because the last time I was there I didn't see many, all the cars were on bricks ;-)

Currently out of the top teams I would have to rate our current midfield squad in this order. Man city, chelsea, man united, tottenham, Liverpool arsenal Midfield is a key part and where most of the football is controlled Man city are only top because they have splashed the cash and chelsea ssquad is ageing I just feel that sir alex is building and trusting in youth We don't have the monwy to spend as other clubs but u feel we need a midfielder who protects the back four Man city have toure, chelsea have essien and we have micheal carrick Teams are evloving but hopefully a cdm would be the icing on the cake We have the best squad in the league to cope with the games, who else can drop players of smalling and jones quality into the starting 11 when rio and vidic are out United will be on top at the end of the season Hong kong investor

Think about our situation and Sneijder, Sneijder is alot of money for whom we might need for probably a short period of 3-4 seasons until youth comes into play. It would be more captivating if we went for the duo Gotze and Kagawa knowing they are world class already. A list of players that would be ideal are Marko Marin, Marvin Martin, Javi Martinez, Christian Eriksen, and the list could go on. Of course, the likes of Modric and Nasri are very tempting plus every club wants them. For all we know the youth of Morrison, Cleverley, and Pogba will come. I just feel if won't be get some midfielder this season it will difficult. Anderson needs to step up or he is screwed.

I along with most united fans would love to see gotze at our club we are desperate for a creative midfielder.
On a side note all those who want mourinho at our club I have never been one of them, he is the most despicable person in football and humuliates himself constantly and undermines the club he is at when he does it. Imo perfect man city material.

I just managed to read red mans post. Interesting post but I'm still stuck in the middle. When ronaldihno and rivaldo earlier were bought. were barce considered the greatest team ever? question is, did their presence add to what would become, by their influence on say a young xavi. probably yes. for becks scholes ect read cantona. cleverly and anderson had the benifit of scholes and giggs but fair not at the peek of their powers. but to give youth a chance you got to step away at some point and let them take that responsibility and it could be adding another would be a step back in those terms..

the vibes I'm getting off alex is much the same. He is looking for a mid but if it dont turn out he'll roll with it just as happily. or those vibes could be just to get any prices down or whatever agenda.

your dead right about the strengths of city and the fall of liverpool. absolutely need to be aware of the dangers but Its not arrogance or hope for me to think that we have a quality squad. Its belief. What happened at the community shield was just a taste of what we are capable of. cons red

Arsenal's woes continue in the injury department. Wilshere is a big doubt for the United game, as is Djourou, Traore, Gibbs & possibly Rosicky. Nasri will leave, Fabregas did leave and Song & Gervinho are suspended. With RVP made of glass, it's going to be a cautious next ten days and must keep him wrapped up in cotton wool.

Arsenal are in a bad way at the moment, but I have no sympathy for Wenger, he knew Fabregas and Nasri would leave and he has had plenty of time to replace them. I even believe Liverpool will win this weekend, that is how much of a state Arsenal are in. {Ed007's Note - Are you on the right page mate? I am being serious.}
