Great result for the Under 18's tonight against a very good Derby County side. Alot is said about Januzaj, Daehli and Van Velzen but by far our most consistent player at that level has been Jack Barmby. Plenty of skill, all the versatility of his dad and a cracking eye for goal.

For all the poster's who have said we are in for or might sign Hazard, please don't get excited...................... it won't happen. He's got Chelsea written all over him

Many people here say that Pogba and Morrison don't get more first-team football because they're not ready and every time that they don't perform well, hey say that they're only 18, 19 or whatever...

My point:

Gotze, Hazard, Neymar, Phil Jones, Wayne Rooney, Rodwell, Messi, Walcott and... They start shining at this age.

If Pogba and Morrison are really talented players, age would be the last excuse. Maybe just rumors but we're always linked to young and talented players in the market but nobody complaints about their ages if they're good, but always use the excuses when comes to this 2.

Morrison has temper and bla bla so what?
What about Pogba?

The truth is that we don't really use the youngster from United, we used to but right now the young players are just used to justify why we don't buy when the big reason is MONEY!

We had to call back Scholes, we use every game Ryan Giggs (no offense, He is a LEGEND, but he's over now for the game), but we can't give this guys 10-15 min(sometimes) in PL games at home? We use Anderson recovering from injury but the so talented players don't get not even 10 min?

Everybody says that they are really good for the future and I believe but is really annoying watching other teams and see young players succeeding while at United there's always excuses.

Now SAF wants Giggs to renew the contract. I think Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Cleverly will all stay and maybe a new addition for next year for Midfielder and I'm wonder when this guys will really have an opportunity to shine or will be like Cleverly(after the 23 to start playing regularly?).

George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo have all worn the famous no 7 Manchester United Shirt and done it justice.

But seriously, Owen? Why was he even given it, he rarely plays, gets injured when he does play and is past it quite frankly.

When Owen does leave/retire which i can see being soon, if they dont bring in someone quality i'll be suprised - surely Sir Alex knows the number has been wasted on him.

Just look at what motivation the number 7 shirt gave David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both were young when given it and both turned into world-beaters while still in their younger years.

The number 7 shirt has always been somebody who could win a game on there own sometimes and make opponent players and fans fear them.

Not an old, slow and injury-prone striker who spends more time messing around with horses than he does on the pitch.

But saying all that, nobody could guess who the next player to wear the number 7 is. I think Fergie might just give it to a current member of squad. Nani or even Young. I think Welbeck could take well to the number.

Although i really do hope a big name comes in over the summer who could do it justice.

So its possible that come the summer utds no.7&no.9 shirts will be available! No doubt the glazers will see this as what we can make merchendise sales depending who signs, even thou I don't think Fergie gona have that much to spend I expect a name signing to fill one of those shirts!&its been said a few times&some believe some laugh at but I woudnt rule out Torres taking the no.9,fergies tried get him few times before&even when 50m said was fantastic deal for Chelsea,if prices drops fergie will go for it&wont think or care abou any scouse link or what hap at chelsea he will believe he will make Torres fire again! So who do other think could fill the shirts?

Ronaldo really up for it tonight, tracking back and making some good tackles and a brilliant goal. Mesut Ozil is sat on the bench if that makes any odds.

Right as a poster pointed out before if you look at our spending habits they tend to be a net spend of about 20m a year with a 50m-ish spend once in a while. We spent 50m last summer so it's unlikely we'll spend that much this year, i doubt we'll see a net spend over 20m.
Then we need to look at who is likely to leave, Owen Scholes and Giggs look likely so that is alot of experiance leaving so players like Evra Carrick Ferdinand are unlikely to leave plus more established squad members like Nani and Anderson as we need to keep a core of experianced players.

So players likely to leave are:
Kusczcak, Macheda, Berbatov, Diouf, De Laet, Park, (Owen, Scholes, Giggs retire), Wootton, R.Brown, James, Norwood, Drinkwater, King and possibly Morrison. Now thats a lot of wages saved and it should bring in 20-25m which if we are to have a net spend of 20 m would give us about 40-45m to spend.

I think we need four players. Two midfielders, a defender, a striker. So heres who i'd go for:

Erik Pieters- A solid left back but un spectacular, he'd provide competition for Evra which would hopefully make Evra pull up his socks and when Evra leaves in a couple of years time he would be a great mentor to Fryers. He can also play at centre back as cover. He'd cost around 5m so wouldn't eat too much into the budget.

Granit Xhaka- He is a little gem of a player, can attack and defend and has that bite about him that our midfield has been missing. At between 6-8m you just can't get a better player for that price, surely he is value for money.

Shinji Kagawa- This lad is excellent, his vision is superb. Dortmund look resigned to losing him and have brought in Reus to replace him. He can play on the wing in the middle and off the striker and nearly never gives the ball away, he is exactly what we need a player who can keep pocession. His cost could be anything from 15-20m but more likely closer to 15m.

Andiry Yarmolenko- I am a huge fan of this lad, he is so quick and clinical infront of goal. He can also play on the left wing so would give us more options. He'd cost 10-12m roughly.

With these four reasonably priced signings along with a few youth players and our squad looks younger stronger and has more talent and versitility.

DDG, Lindegaard, Amos, Johnstone

Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Evans, Evra, Pieters, Fryers, M.Keane

Cleverley, Carrick, Anderson, Kagawa, Xhaka, Fletcher?, Pogba, Tunnicliffe

Nani, Valencia, Young, Brady

Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Yarmolenko, W.Keane, Lingard

Tactics wise i'd play 4231 if we want to play pocession football and switch to a 4411 if we need to defend more and wanna catch teams on the break.

The United boss was critical of Pogba’s agent and urged the young powerful engine room operator to sign up to a future career with the Reds because he will get the riches at Old Trafford.

Pogba appears to be set to heed his manager’s advice and clearly wants to remain at United and forge ahead with plans to establish himself among the champion’s senior squad.

“It's very good here. I'm getting in the first team and I enjoy it a lot,” he says.

“I have to carry on and try to play more games. My debut at Leeds (in the Carling Cup) was a great feeling. I played away, in a derby as well, and came on for Ryan Giggs.
I thought, 'Okay, now is a good chance to prove myself and to show them what I can do'. We won that game and it was a very good feeling.

“I told myself I've just tasted it, now I want to eat it - I want all the cake now! I want to play, work hard and do my best to get in the first-team squad.

“I think you grow up a lot at United. I came from France. I'm here and I know what I want to do. I just want to be a first-team player, a great player here and that's it.”

This sounds encouraging.

hopefully de gea will be on some sort of bulking up program so next season he can command his area a bit better, think that is his only downfall of late, he is a bit scrawny and just needs to get bigger so he can have the presence about him.

Question to ed's/syd etc:

Newspapers I can't trust rumours for - Sun, Daily Mail, Guardian, Independent, Express, Mirror.

Websites I can't trust rumours from -Caughtoffside, footybible, footy bunker, football friends online, sky sports.

Can't trust TalkSport or sky sports news.

Is there any trust worthy sources out there or is it just this site?

Dont expexct too much tonight in the FA youth cup, Derby are a more experienced and poweful side. Most of our lads are first years and tonights game will be a great experience for them. Weve got some very talented boys but theyre a little light weight at present and we wont see the best of them till next season.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that Berbatov will stay until summer. Everyone says he will in January but i reckon he will be kept as cover until summer when we can sign a quality replacement for him.

I just read that Real spend 460 million on transfers since Pep Guardiola took over at Barcelona, while he spend 296 million.

Made me wonder how United and the rest of the Premier League stack up.

Found a great statistic (net expenditure) here (Pep took over in 2007):

www.transfermarkt.de/en/primera-division/transferentwicklung/wettbewerb_ES1.html
www.transfermarkt.de/en/premier-league/transferentwicklung/wettbewerb_GB1.html
www.transfermarkt.de/en/serie-a/transferentwicklung/wettbewerb_IT1.html
www.transfermarkt.de/en/1-bundesliga/transferentwicklung/wettbewerb_L1.html

Really impressive how little (compared to the big clubs in Europe) SAF has spent.
Arsene's statistic is impressive as well, but then again I am sure the four premier league titles we won are worth more then the 100 million we spend more then Arsenal.

Turns out we have spent less then the promised £ 20 million per season as well.
Were those promised as net spending? or as transfer kitty on top of transfer income? Would give SAF another £ 100 million theoretically ;-)

Hi guys. There is an e-petition going around for a new inquest in relation to a man's death at the Hillsborough disaster. If any British citizens could spare a minute to sign it (check your emails to complete the signature) then it would be for a very good cause no doubt.

I found this one interesting -
Acc. to the Daily Mirror
Lille: Offer us £35m for Hazard or forget it
French champions Lille have told Chelsea and Manchester United they will not sell Belgian star Eden Hazard this window for less than £35million. Both the Blues and United are sniffing round the playmaker ahead of a possible January deal for the 21-year-old. But with Lille desperate to secure Champions League football ahead of next seasons move to a new 50,000-capacity stadium, the English raiders have been told they have to meet their minimum demand for them to even consider selling this month. Hazard, who's also being tracked by Real Madrid, is understood to have reconciled himself to seeing out the season in France. However, he would not be averse to a move if Lille do agree terms with either Chelsea or United.

My question- Is he worth £35M.??
wat say u ed007.?

MD_11 {Ed007's Note - I don't think he is worth that amount but it is the trends in the market prices just now. At 21 he would be seen as an investment but I would prefer someone with a bit more experience for that kind of money. A Sneijder, Modric or even Ozil, who at 23 (nearing 24) has experience of being at a 'big' club already.}

my personal opinion of the club,

gk - so far I think we are covered. De gea will come good. I have no doubt. Lindegaard is a very good keeper. Only hope that he dosnt get the itch to become number 1 somewhere else.

defense - rio will have one more season. The amount of pace he has lost is amazing. He has a lack of fitness. the twins annoy me. good players when they get a run of games but once again the fitness issue is there. Evra - a few good games dosnt make up for 18 months of mediocracy for me. defensive postions are shocking. Smalling looks better along vidic but how much longer will he be here? his head has been turned by some sun and we have to see how he deals with his injury. As for jones - well, I know everyone sees him a cb - but he brings so much energy and drive to the midfield its unbeleivable. His technique isnt brilliant but that will come with some training.

Midfield - nani and valencia are two of the best wingers in the league. young is a good fall back but i wouldnt start him over either players. Carrick - i like. always have, but as a squad player. Fletcher - we have no clue about. park - move on. giggs - retire. scholes - retire. cleverly - needs game time. anderson also.

Forwards - let berba go. fair play, he hasnt sulked and thats a testament to the man. welbeck has done well but im not sure long term. Hernandez has struggled for form and fitness. I wish owen was ten years younger. class finisher but time to move on.

I think we need a midfielder. I like hamsik. keeps the ball and can spot a pass. modric would be amazing but i dont think hes in our price range at the moment.
I would love us to put a bid in for a striker who understands he wont play every game but can make a difference. One man stands out. podolski. hes available. why not?

My list of sub 15 million midfielders who would improve our squad.
- Sven bender - love him. great player
- Sandro - if stays fit would be a great addition
- Radja Naingollan - does the dirty and does it well
- Lucas Biglia - reminds me of Lucho of Marseille
- Joe Allen - Great prospect. Has really taken to EPL
- James Macarthy - With good players would shine
- Bruno - Tidy player would help DDG
- Milan Badelj - Touted new Modric. potentialy better
- Patrik Hermann - young but potentially world class

Ideally Pogba and Morrsion will sign but if not any of the above IMO would improve our options.

Ed can you forward this list to SAF thanks ;-)

Just a question. Does anyone know if we actually have any money to spend at all? To me it kind of seems like the situation was at arsenal for a few years. The manager claiming to have financial backing only to suggest he thinks the team is just fine as it is. It was quite clear Wenger's hands were tied and it seems the same for SAF.
I'm not sure anyone could claim we don't need anyone, in my opinion we need 2 or 3.
It looks like its going to be yet another quiet window for us.

Opinions appreciated.

Just read something somewhere, if the Glazers hadn't burdened us with debt all those years ago, that as a club we would have in excess of £300 million in capital. That's City level, if not more!

Funny how things have played out, nevermind, que sera sera, no point crying over spilt milk, etc, etc. Hopefully they will be gone at some point or at least finance the debt to a manageble so we turn into the profit monster we once were!

Looks like Diouf could be sold in the next couple of days as German side '96' are after him. That would be Diouf, Kiko (Loan, but will be sold), Cofie (Loan), King (Loan, but will be sold) and the possible departure of Berbatov now or certainly in the summer and Owen unlikely to get another contract. So who are United looking at bringing in? What striker/s have we earmarked? Could be a decent one as SAF has done his best to clear the striking deadwood. Just Welbeck, Rooney & Hernandez will be the only first team strikers, with Ravel and Keane knocking at the door. I think there is room for one top striker personally. Lets wait and see what the summer brings.
