Hello fellas,

Me and my friend (a gooner) Where having a discussion about a combined utd/arsenal 11 over the last 25 years and tried to come up with a team.

I've posted ours we came up with to the teams page so if u would be kind enough to take yourselves over there and choose yours would be a bit of fun on a Thursday.

Chris,

Just wanted to take the opportunity to apologise for the class comment last week. I think we are as bad as each other for wind ups but no need for me to say that mate.

So apologies and always good to see you on our page and my post in reply to Dags today is not another fishing trip, honest, I just genuinely see you guys as in a similar position to us a few years back of having to move a number of players on to get back to serious challenges on all fronts. :-)

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Mar 2015 11:30:05
Do you really think arsenal are seriousley challenging on all fronts though??

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Mar 2015 11:44:53
No, they are a last 16 class champions league side, have zero chance of winning the league and have a chance of winning the FA cup.

Bearing in mind we are only 1 point behind Arsenal and only lost in a close game in the cup, surely we are in a similar position to the one Arsenal are in now, but with more money to spend.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Mar 2015 11:58:07
Jeez Wigan, I said you are in a similar position to us when we had to shift what people disparagingly call "deadwood" from our team. You are in the process of doing that to move forward.

If we had that team we would be strolling the league and heading for the quarter finals of the Champions league. We are currently doing neither. :-)

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Mar 2015 12:39:15
That's cool dog mate, hope your well

19 Mar 2015 13:30:58
Holy shizzle, came on to apologise now got the "banter police" on my tail. :-)

No snags with the apology Chris.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Mar 2015 14:43:15
Thanks Chris, much appreciated, can't argue with your team either, two individually fantastic sides. It was a pleasure to watch them both.

I'm going to cut and run before I get shot, innocent comment and their after me. Ha ha.

See you over the other side. I'm good and hope all is with you too. :-)

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Mar 2015 14:43:52
You came on to a banter page and got some banter against you, I would say that is the opposite of banter police, just banter.

Lighten up fella, will make life way more enjoyable. ;-)

Carlos Tevez has been awesome in the two legs against Dortmund. Remember that time he was seen as surplus to requirements at United? He'd stoll into our team at the moment!

Believable8 Unbelievable2

18 Mar 2015 22:35:53
Was that really the case though? didn't his time at city show why we were reluctant to pay to sort of money needed?

He is doing very well now though.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Mar 2015 23:17:53
We paid 30m for a lazy show pony like Berbatov instead and played him ahead of Tevez despite the fact Tevez would have given far more to the team

Agree4 Disagree3

19 Mar 2015 00:20:51
Couldn't agree more bilko

Agree3 Disagree3

19 Mar 2015 01:06:47
Berbatov was such a wonderful footballer. Shame that Sir Alex could not get the best out of him. Guys like Berbatov and Ozil are far better than many give them credit for.

Agree9 Disagree1

19 Mar 2015 06:24:42
Bilko

Agreed and it was one of a few strange decisions later in SAF's tenure. I recall having a few arguments on here about Berbatov. The front three of Rooney Ronaldo and Tevez were excellent in 2008, folly to have let Tevez go at the time.

Agree1 Disagree3

19 Mar 2015 09:53:02
Tevez had his chance and didn't exactly excel If memory serves he scored 12 goals and missed a host of sitters while doing so. Players suit different clubs ie Torres Forlan Soldado etc etc it doesn't mean anything if he's performing better elsewhere just look at Lewandowski now for example knows the league well but new club new tactics etc for some reason its not working for him like it did before.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Tevez will be gone this summer - and probably gone for good from Europe.}

19 Mar 2015 11:03:18
Berba did finish as Goal king one season for us.

I must say Berbatov did things with the ball I have never seen anyone else do. He was beautiful to watch but God was he infuriating at times!

Bervatov would of been class if he had a bot more speed and willingis to move

The rumours floating about with regards to De Gea moving to Marid, with Bale coming the otherway makes sense; but how many of you guys would be happy with that situation?

If De gea has set his sites on going to Madrid then I suppose getting Bale in return wouldn't be such a bitter pill to swallow.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

18 Mar 2015 16:26:17
I would hate to see DeGea go, he alone has won us so many points this season, I truly believe if it wasn't for him we would be sitting 7th or 8th but IF and its a big IF, we could get a deal involving Bale it would be hard to say no.
I would rather keep De Gea though because that kind of keeper is worth his weight in gold.

Agree5 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 16:29:29
If DeGea insists on leaving then we have no choice really, so yes to get Bale included would be ok. I would rather keep DeGea and leave Bale though if he isn't insisting on leaving.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 16:39:37
Pretty much summed up by your 2nd paragraph Sam, if De Gea is going anyway then Bale in return would be fantastic. I think if it was a choice between the 2 I would say keep De Gea.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 17:31:57
De Gea needs to stay, full stop.

However, it looks to me that he will be going at some point. The whole scenario smacks of the Ronaldo situation, and like Ronaldo he will be asked to give us one more year as the rebuild that needs doing is still huge.

I wouldn't be surprised as part of any deal for Ronaldo or Bale this summer that a deal is put in place for De Gea to sign for Real Madrid next summer. I'd also expect to see Valdes get a few more games next year to see if he performs well in preparation for De Gea's sale.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - That certainly won't be happening.}

18 Mar 2015 23:27:10
Which bit? De Gea here for another season or signing either of those two?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You were simply making it all up about De Gea staying another years and Ronaldo or Bale arriving this year as part of the deal. It is pure fantasy football stuff.}

18 Mar 2015 14:14:56
With all the greatest respect to Valdes, he has ZERO epl experience? And with de gea looking at going I'm abit worried? Ok, he's won pretty much everything in game, still I'm sceptical? What do you guys think? A new young goalie is surely a must? When we got van der sar, the clubs he'd been with and with prem experience it was a no brainer for us? I just don't see this one working?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Mar 2015 15:05:06
Goalkeepers with no EPL experience prior to moving to a new club? Just off the top of my head, Schmeichel, Van der Sar (to Fulham) Chech, Lloris didn't do too bad. I take your point, but reaaly its no issue as long as they are good enough.
On the other hand, there was Taibi :)

Agree4 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:14:16
As a stop gap, for free it could work. That's as we're all assuming he's definitely going. Whos to say he wouldn't sign a new deal and leave in 12 months time.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:49:34
If De Gea is to leave then I don't see us paying huge money to bring in a replacement especially with Valdes sitting on the bench. Spending 25m+ on Lloris just isn't very likely.

But with Lindegaard also likely to leave then we will need to bring in a understudy/potential future starter. Someone in their early 20's who can challenge Valdes for the No.1 spot but can still learn from him.

For me it would be a choice between Mattia Perin or Loris Karius, both have the potential to be the best in the world in a few years time and neither would cost even a third of what Lloris would cost.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 17:42:04
I don't think Valdes having no experience of the EPL is of great significance. The ball is still round and people still shoot at him with the same power as in La Liga. He may have to deal with a few more crosses but I am sure he would manage.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Mar 2015 09:43:39
For me I would look to Leno

Nice to see Teddy Sheringham backing James Wilson to go on to be a 20+ goal a year striker at Man United. If the lad can add some muscle to his frame along with his frightening pace we may have a top frontman for many years to come.

Also I read an article about Januzaj were he claims that he has started 'working harder in the gym to toughen up' and 'he wants to stamp all the bad habits out his game (aka diving etc)'. Good on the lad, he could have sulked like a lot of other overpaid baby's out there at his lack of first team action this year but he is getting his head down and working hard.

Along with Depay supposedly lined up for the Summer then barring horrific injuries and the right guidance the future looks bright for us to push on for many years to come.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

18 Mar 2015 12:48:08
Wilson, Januzaj, Depay and Shaw would be 4 of the most promising youngsters in the League. They all have very bright futures, and hopefully those bright futures lie here. If it was me I would wave bye bye to Falcao and RVP and have Rooney as first choice, Wilson as second/third choice and buy a cheap striker like Chelsea did with Remy - not sure who. Maybe even Hernandez could be that player.

Fresh Ings is available for free at the end of this season and we have been linked with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 13:50:10
I agree totally JMB, if Januzaj is staying positive and working even harder then hats off to him. As you say, many others, Zaha anyone, also have ability but don't have the same determination to succeed. Every young player should use Ronaldo as a model of how to achieve exactly what they want to achieve. He may be a bit stroppy and things at times, but no one can deny how hard he has worked since a young kid to get to where he is now.

Also agree with Fresh, I'd let Falcao and RVP go this summer and said so a while back. Rooney is the number 1 striker and we could get a back up to compete with Wilson for decent money I think.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 14:21:24
Good call MB, I'd take Ings

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:18:25
Brendan, of all the big names we are being linked with, I would take more pleasure in seeing us sign Ings and turn him into a star.
These ao called big names, or marquee signings, usually leave the fans disappointed. The huge transfer fees just fuel expectation, and the players rarely live up to them.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:39:35
What does Teddy know about James Wilson? Has he coached him or worked with him or is he just basing his opinion on seeing him the same as us? It would be a great endorsement if it was based on something concrete. I did not red the article so just wondering
As for Ings on a free it has to be good business. If we play with 1 up top next year i'd be happy to start the season with 1 from wilson ings and Rooney as long as we strengthen all the other key areas
CB x2 RB, CMx2 RW.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Mar 2015 16:18:49
I know its a game but on a football manager I signed ings on a free and he finished 3rd top scorer in the league that season behind soldado and costa as I romped to the domestic treble. Depay also bagged 22 in all competitions. So in computer simulations they work as signings.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 16:32:38
I agree BS, I'd much rather help an English lad develop and fulfil his potential, than overpay for another import who doesn't really give a toss and can't handle the PL.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 16:42:54
MrE,

I think the fact Soldado scored more than him would suggest that Football Manager isn't the greatest way to judge it.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 19:50:39
GDS, you could have shortened that sentence to " the fact that Soldado scored". :)

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 21:14:58
I agree, but then that game runs on potential. Beast would love that spurs team. Just thought i'd throw in a different view.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 11:32:05
Been busy of late so missed a bit of the convo but would just like to say what a difference the tactics made at the weekend.
just shows
we don't need strootman to play well.
We don't need to play 3 at the back .
we can play full backs even when raf and shaw are out .
we don't have to be defensive to protect our fragile cbs.

We have a good squad of players at the club and when we get the tactics right they are capable of playing decent football.

hopefully no more silly excuses between now and the end of the season

Believable6 Unbelievable0

18 Mar 2015 11:44:53
Couldn't put it better myself Jred. That's what we have been asking for all season and it's better late than never I suppose!

Do remember though that we were good anytime carrick played this season. But he turns 34 this year!

Agree1 Disagree0

mbd

18 Mar 2015 14:42:44
MBD - I think you are being generous there mate, I can count on one hand how many times we have looked half decent this season. I need a lot more than that for how many games Carrick has played in.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 14:53:15
That is a major issue mdb. It's obvious that our transition between attack and defence is better when Carrick plays. Blind lacks the speed and vision in passing necessary to break at speed. I don't think that StoatMan or Carvalho are capable of doing Carrick's job either. If the dm is tasked with dictating tempo, then we really need to think about the type of players who can do this. So far I haven't seen many names mentioned that fit the bill.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:17:27
I'm still saying Wanyama.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:57:55
Marco Verratti, simple as that. Maybe bring in William Carvalho as well so we could have a really good mix of options. Carvalho who'll use his pace and power to dominate, Verratti who'll use his vision and technical abilities to control and Herrera who's attacking instincts will help when pushing forward along with Blind who's intelligence and positional awareness gives us good defensive cover along with great passing.

I'd be prepared to sacrifice Di Maria to PSG along with a bit of cash for Marquinhos and Verratti.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 15:58:40
I'm with you Herbie, Wanyama all the way.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 16:09:19
To go outside the box Joao moutinho or jordy clasie

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 18:10:02
I'd swap di Maria for veratti in a heartbeat he is the nearest player to paul scholes

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not going to happen.}

18 Mar 2015 20:05:44
Before I saw Shappy's comment the first name that popped into my head was Verratti. In terms of a deep lying playmaker with good passing range and ability I can't think of any better than him.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Mar 2015 11:12:48
N'Golo Kante or Allan Marquez are decent players, think they will have a great future.

Agree1 Disagree0

mbd

19 Mar 2015 17:14:47
Isn't Pjanic good?
I don't know if he is as good defensively but his passing range is one to behold, I feel he is the closest player to Scholes. I'd really want him as a CB, and Kroos and Modric have shown you don't have to be a DM to win games, we could always sign Dr Jong :P

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Pjanic is not a centre back.}

18 Mar 2015 09:16:26
Hi Eds, without sounding to gullable, is there any truth in these Ronaldo returning rumours in the summer or is it just lazy journalism gone mad again?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing about what you read on Twitter or in the press.}

18 Mar 2015 11:33:40
I think its just gossip mate. He is to much of a marketable machine for Madrid to let him slip through their slimey fingers at the moment.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 08:32:13
002, may I ask whether you know why we are not interested in Lacazette? Or is it that he's going elsewhere, and interest would he wasteful?

I only ask as he seems potentially perfect for us, young at 23 - but not too young, very pacey, and great ability. I understand you mightn't know, but it would be interesting to know why.

Thanks in advance!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - There are a number of players Manchester United are not interested in.}

18 Mar 2015 11:36:12
I like Lacazette a lot but I have a sneaky suspicion he may follow the same path as Benzema and head for La Liga when the time is right or PSG if he is keen to remain in France.

On the topic of strikers though ED, I have read that a lot of clubs home and abroad are showing interest in Javier Hernandez. Could you shed any light on this?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Southampton, West Ham and Everton have a declared interest in Javier Hernandez. If the price is reasonable Inter, Spurs and Valencia could revive their interest.}

18 Mar 2015 09:34:53
We will sign Clyne this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Mar 2015 11:38:02
As long as we don't get held to ransom I'd happily take Clyne to shore up the right side of defence. Personally would still rather Coleman though.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Mar 2015 16:00:27
If Clyne become too pricey(anything over 18m) then i'd look to bring in Santiago Arias he has been consistently excellent for PSV this season. I think he is ready to move to a bigger club and continue his progression.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 16:15:59
I don't think there would be much between the two

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 08:40:02
Not sure if you guys saw Arsenal last night but they are playing very well. This was against a very formidable defensive minded team with Europe's best defense and quite a physical midfield.

I was hoping they would go through as that would have added to their fixtures list which would have done us no harm:)

I think it is premature to think we will win our game against them at OT.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Mar 2015 09:04:20
to be fair its a long time until we play them. Form is swings and roundabouts you can't tell how they (or us) will be playing at that point. Tbh i don't think they are playing that great at all. Monaco were shocking last night, Arsenal let themselves down as usual.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 11:41:02
They do look good GCU. They have many options in the their repertoire and that's what worries me. As much as I hope we get a result at Anfield on the weekend I don think it is a make or break game.

I think the games against City, Everton and Chelsea will be key to getting top four. If we come through those fixtures strongly then we will get a CL place in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 12:58:44
Its also premature to think that we will not.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2015 13:24:11
Monaco set out to defend and had 11 players behind the ball, so arse-nal had plenty of the ball. I don't think they're looking unbeatable. In fact, I think they have a soft belly and could get turned over.
They do play nice football though and at present, things are going right for them, but form and injuries could change all that.

Looks increasingly likely that Depay will join us in the summer. Watched the lad closely for a the last few years and really think he would be a success in the premier league. He has pace, skill, balance and good final ball whilst scores goals too. I think lvg would only improve him further as a player. Exciting prospect.
