Hi ed002. I note you say pogba still wants out.
There can be only a handful of clubs who could afford to finance a deal like that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

19 Feb 2019 21:33:08
I think you said both the spanish clubs are less interested now.
So does that leave juve as his best and preferred option ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

19 Feb 2019 21:43:18
Ed I might be way off and know it doesn't happen often, but are juve looking to involve another playerin the deal if it happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes they will do.}

19 Feb 2019 22:15:56
Probably unrelated and reading too much into it, but is Pogba the only player to not wear a suit to away games?

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Feb 2019 21:59:13
Do you know if united have any targets in mind to replace him if pogba were to go ed or is that still a little unclear until we appoint a new permenant coach.
Also with the numbers being so big do you think that we will have to change the policy on player part exchange in order to get a deal done?
Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Saul Niguez would be a target. Manchester United has an interest in a Juve player so it is possible.}

19 Feb 2019 22:33:42
Shame to hear that about pogba tbh. I would have hoped he would have wanted to stay. The Juve player isn’t Douglas Costa is it ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes it is.}

19 Feb 2019 22:41:18
Are united reluctant or willing sellers ed?
I know you said before that the club were looking to sell him is that still the case or do they hope to retain him now?
Saul is a very good player i'd rather that they both played for united.

Whats your view ed on OGS. He has obviously surpassed all expectations and appears now to be the favourite for the job? Are you surprised with the results achieved?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - MU would like him to stay but he wants out. I am not surprised at the results as the club deliberately made the change when there was a comparatively easy run of games.}

19 Feb 2019 22:42:50
Thanks ed. I like costa but would never in a million years swap him for pogba. But then I’m not in charge of running the club. If Saul did come in I think that would be the best possible replacement for pogba. Eriksen is another. Either way I can’t think of many that would improve on pogba when he’s playing the way he currently is.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Feb 2019 05:19:55
If Pogba really wants out, we need to replace him with Saul Niguez.
Douglas Costa will be a good option for Right Wing.
Maybe selling Pogba can sort out 2 positions.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Feb 2019 06:40:31
Selling pogba next season would be the stupidest possible thing we could do. We need a cb, a rw, a mf to backup or replace matic, a rb and that's without including the fact that we need to get rid and replacing atleast 1 of sanchez or lukuku.

if we sell pogba the new manager whether OGS or Poch will have a disastrous season given he is our only creative player who can come up with the goods from mf. Saul is a decent player and i would like us to sign him regardless of whether pogba is sold or not as he alongside pogba and hererra would be fantastic but as a pogba replacement he would be a mediocre signing.

Douglas costa is another that would be an expensive failure, first thing we need to do is get idiot ed away from transfers, his galactico signings like sanchez, lukaku and adm have done enough damage to us.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Feb 2019 06:50:18
I said elsewhere on here that the club should be looking at Jadon Sancho (if he is interested in coming) but wondered if someone was whispering “bargain” in Ed Woodward’s ear about Douglas Costa. We do seem to have not bought the best or the best potential in most cases for a while. Personally I wouldn’t look at Costa and would look at young high potential young talent like Sancho or Hudson Odoi for our right side but who is making the recruitment decisions?

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Feb 2019 07:21:52
Costa isn't good enough and doesn't offset much of the value of pogba.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Feb 2019 08:12:34
Ed02, if Pogba does leave is it to a European club or could another English club be an option?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - An English side was approached in the summer and they were not interested so I would think it unlikely.}

20 Feb 2019 10:03:52
With Bayern’s two aging winger (Robben and Ribery) if Costa was any good as a winger they would have kept him instead of letting him go to Juve. Surely.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - it is attitude rather than ability that saw him leave. He was fed up with those two being in the team ahead of him and wanted out and wasn't prepared to listen when told that things would change.}

20 Feb 2019 10:45:56
Redman
Costa wouldn't be a replacement for pogba, ed has said we would look at saul . And he will cost a packet .
I will be very surprised if pogba leaves in the summer.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Feb 2019 12:33:57
If the reason for Pogba's discontent was Mourinho and with the latter now gone . .
Might his upsurge in form indicate a change of mind is possible? Or does he just love life in Turin? If so, why did he leave? Much more money allied to he knew the place?

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 19:45:54
I have been impressed with Pogba, and his stats in recent games have been immense. But, and I’m not looking for an argument here, I don’t get the MOTM awards and the plaudits he receives. He’s been great but he does still drift in and out. Take last night as an example, Herrera was immense, here there and everywhere yet Pogba gets MOTM, Phil Neville says he’s the best midfielder in England, and the Times had him as 9 out of 10.

He’s really stepped up and looks a different player but not to the level he is being lauded. Am I not seeing what everyone else is seeing? I’m really not fishing I’m looking for genuine opinions. I’m happy to have him in the team, he’s starting to look the part, and who knows how good he can become. But others talk about him at a level I’m not seeing. Just me?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Who would you look to replace Pogba with as he still wants out?}

19 Feb 2019 19:53:41
Lets play one game without pogba and see what happens.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Feb 2019 20:20:46
Ajh, I saw it the same way, herrera was motm, pogba proably got it for goal and assist, but like you said he drifts in nd out, and if he wants out let him off.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 20:59:05
He is playing well and has been the real difference maker now for the best part of 12 games. He is scoring and creating chances weekly
Yes he has defencive lapses and lazy moments but he is trying much harder.
Scoring and making goals dictates that he will get the plaudits. Very few if any difference makers have stays as good as his over last 2 months.
If he still wants out at least he is increasing his value.
It will be an interesting summer that's for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 20:39:25
002 as for the pogba replacement, are still looking at SMS?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - THose thoughts have gone.}

19 Feb 2019 20:51:50
Can't be persuaded to stay ed? I thought Jose was the problem?

As a replacement? Well you're not going to get a like for like. I'd focus on getting a busy CM, niguez, veratti, Kante? And look to add a pacy forward who is comfortable as a no.10 but also drifting. Easier said than done.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Saul would be the one but the asking price is very high.}

19 Feb 2019 21:07:07
Absolutely no chance Pogba will be sold in the summer! We don't need a replacement we should be looking to build the team around him. He's our best player by a mile.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - He wants to leave.}

19 Feb 2019 21:21:18
I'd be absolutely gutted if he left this summer. Hopefully he'll give us at least another year, see we're building towards something and he can be persuaded to stay. I would imagine any deal will be difficult considering his current form the asking price must be outrageous.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 21:29:13
He may want to leave but realistically to who? There's probably 4-5 clubs in europe that could be thought of as possible destinations but all of them have issues that rule them out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No they don’t.}

20 Feb 2019 04:45:21
I am not a huge fan of Pogba's antics. He still has lapse in concentration and strolls around the pitch at times.
BUT. BUT. If Pogba is out of the team, the team loses almost all the creative spark.
Nobody in our squad can provide those inch perfect killer pass to forwards other than Pogba.

At times he is unstoppable while marauding forward. He draws fouls while skipping past players. He is strong in the air.
When Pogba has a good game, the team is almost certain to win. That's his importance.
First time in 3 years, he is being used in his preferred role and he is showing his true ability.

His goals and assists ratio in the last 12 games from midfield are one of the best in the world.
He is starting to be a difference maker in the games. Hopefully he can maintain this form and sort out his negative aspects.

Seen a few posts about getting in an understudy for Matic and was curious who people would suggest for this role. (Internal or Purchase)

For me, although not direct like, I would look to Wilfred N’Diddi, the guy is a machine.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

19 Feb 2019 12:08:01
Julian Weigl, Ruben Neves, Tanguy Ndombele are some of the midfielders we have been linked with.
Ideally we need a defensive midfielder who is dominant with good game reading and passing ability.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 12:15:18
I like Ndidi think he’s a brilliant player. Depends what type of style we are looking to play. I feel at times we lack someone to control the tempo of the game, especially against the big sides.

Matic has been great since ole has taken over. He’s played further forward and his passing range has been impressive. My personal favourite to replace him would be ndombele. They guy is so talented, can dribble, pick a pass and tackle. Of course the dream is Kante but unlikely to happen. I’m also a fan of doucoure.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 13:00:25
Ndidi is a great player, however, I'm not sure if he starts most weeks for us. He is great at being a distruptive player in front of the back four. Making tackles, interceptions and winning headers.

Yet when the ball is at his feet he is too limited a player for the top level of the game to be starting every week. His passing is soild and unspectacular. He can't control the pace or tempo of a game. He is a reactive player rather than a proactive player.

He would have been an ideal player to have against PSG, especially when we had our backs to the wall in the second half. But he doesn't add enough going forward to play in 80% of our games in the league.

I feel we are better off going for a deep-lying playmaker who can sit in front of the back four and dictate the tempo and drop back into defence when we are stretched.

Casemiro would be the dream signing, Weigl is another to consider.

19 Feb 2019 13:47:19
Ruben Neves, Premier league proven and has some goals in him as well.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 14:46:41
Neves is a brilliant player and is only getting better. i'd take him every day of the week.

But, is he a like for like replacement for matic?

19 Feb 2019 15:23:05
Neves is another who would be great.

{Ed002's Note - £100M for an understudy?}

Any chance Chelsea would sell kante?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes but MU has no interest in him.}

19 Feb 2019 16:39:00
I see Declan Rice as a good prospect. adaptable to both defence and midfield, still mouldable. probably cost lots of money but the good ones generally do.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 17:08:39
Declan Rice or Ndidi for me.

Could be interesting to see what TfM could do there too.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 17:20:25
Disappointing that United have no interest in Kante. Best defensive midfielder in the world by a mile. I'm assuming his price would also be very high but he is the best in his position so it would be expected.

Outside punt on Lucas Tousart? He's looked good at Lyon from what I have seen and plays alongside Ndombele but may not require £80m to get him?

Would have loved Neves before he went to wolves, would love him even more now, young enough to be an understudy for matic.
Rice also a contender.
Money no object kante, Saul niguez.

Any idea why we aren't in for Kante ED? If you have the time and inclination of course.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - For the same reason Manchester United are not "in for" Dylan Dykes, there is no interest in him.}

20 Feb 2019 05:11:20
Why would Chelsea sell the world's best defensive midfielder to a rival?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Feb 2019 11:54:40
Well, we all wondered how Ole and the team would bounce back from the first big set back. Losing their first game and taking a big blow in terms of possible advancement in Europe had the potential to derail the season. These players are supposedly weak minded, show ponies, only turning up when they want to.

A lot was said about the defeat to PSG, questions were asked about Ole's tactical know how. Ultimately I feel he had a plan that was working reasonable well up until half time, then the injuries left us with very few options and against one of the best sides in Europe we were undone. Hardly surprising considering most of us believe there are clear and obvious weaknesses in the squad. A squad that probably isn't quite ready to challenge for the title yet, let alone challenge for the UCL.

Last night I feel Ole went a long way to answering those questions. He will have asked for a reaction to that defeat, and he got it from every single player. I haven't seen such a hard working and complete defensive performance from our side in many a year. We totally kept Chelsea at arms length for the entire match, the tactics were spot on. The jobs Mata and Herrera did last night were nothing short of exceptional. Mata gave Jorginho a torrid time, never giving him a moments peace, while he also worked well as a foil for our other attacking players linking things together quickly and simply.
Herrera on the other hand some how was everywhere at once, putting out fires before they could become a problem while also giving Hazard the sort of game he will have nightmares about. Every time Hazard received the ball Herrera was in his face. When the kit man washes the kit he better check Herrera's shorts as he'll probably find Hazard in the pocket.

It seems strange celebrating such a fantastic defensive performance when for many of us the chief complaint under Mourinho was the defensive performances. However, this was a very different sort of defensive performance, rugged, pro-active and not at the expense of attempting to win the game. Rather than timid, reactive and in some sort of desperation, with no attempt to try and win the game.

It was hard to pick a man of the match last night, Shaw was phenomenal, as was Herrera, Pogba, Mata, Smalling, Lindelof and Rashford.

Lukaku had a much improved performance and maybe playing in a partnership will suit him more than as the lone striker.

Sanchez worked hard when he came on like he had a point to prove.

All in all it was an excellent performance. I can't remember the last time I was looking forward to playing Liverpool this much.

Listening to Pogba talk last night about how Ole believes in the players and the players believe in him. Well I believe in the players and I believe in Ole.

Great post shappy. I will admit I was one of those that came on here at the heat of the moment pretty furious after the PSG game. I really had doubts last night about whether ole could set us up differently without the pace of martial and lingard. Yesterday was a masterclass. Every single one of those players out fought and out played their opposite man. The togetherness of the squad, fans and players alike is incredible to see. Not been this was for 6 odd years.

I mentioned during jose’s reign that I had never felt so distant from a united squad. I had no affinity or connection and I really thought it was the players that didn’t care. How wrong I was. We all know what the problem was now. I am feeling a connection with this team that I didn’t think I would. The surging run that pogba made to get on the end of rashford’s cross epitomises the desire and passion of the squad. Herrera singling our the subs and praising them is the sort of leadership we want to see at united. His reaction with Sanchez after the game is what I want to see. He’s put it on himself to ensure that everyone is pulling in the same direction. Wonderful stuff.

I just love watching united at the moment and ole has really brought a smile back on my face. Long may it continue.

Great post Shaps.
It’s just too soon for anyone to start saying Poch should be our manager. Even OGS for that matter. We should just enjoy the revival and Que Sera Sera. In time The Right One will be in.
As to the game, I was so impressed with both goals. Missed the game as was too late (or too early) for me but just watching the delayed showing. And yes I quite agree with most of your comments.

Great read Ed as always.
Better still is that our club will not be sold at least to Middle East ownership. Nothing about owners but this is not a good time to be talking about new ownership. Besides the sale of the club should be kept very quiet until last mile. Else it will only disrupt us wanting to buy players and good player who are keen to join us.
As usual newspapers just want to get readership 🤣.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I couldn't believe there was even a discussion of it on here to be honest. The story came from the S*n which has a lengthy history of fabricating stories. It had no direct quotes, no names, nothing but loose speculation. As opposed to the talks over a sponsorship, which were well known to be happening.}

19 Feb 2019 12:26:22
As always proven Eds know more and we should be patient and not overreact. It’s true there are many rumors about practically everything and potentially negative about Man Utd. Yes it’s worrisome sometimes and the m also guilty of reading such nonsense but best thing for me is to read the response from Ed001 and Ed002 and I find myself in a more calm state 😉👍.

What a way to brighten up a Monday! Great win and the tactical know how that Ole and the team are showing is exceptional. Away wins at Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal (conceding only one goal) is phenomenal. 11 wins, 1 draw and 1 European defeat isn't too shabby either. We know we aren't at the level required yet for Europe, but we are doing the business domestically and I could see us finishing the year with top 4 and an FA Cup trophy.

Apart from the obvious good results, performances and mood around the club Ole has shown what this current squad is capable of achieving.

We all know that we are currently not good enough to win the PL or CL but we can compete just below that level.

If we could obtain new signings at RB, CB, CM and RW/ RM and move on 4-6 from the current squad that aren’t good enough then I believe we can compete.

With the away wins at Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea Ole has shown himself to be tactically very astute. Whether this is purely down to him or more collective amongst Phelan, Carrick and McKenna we don’t really know.
If Ole does get the job full time it will be interesting to see what happens with Phelan as he may also be an important part of this coaching setup.

Hats off to the fans at the game last night you were amazing. For us armchair supporters last night all that we could hear in the second half was you and it was non stop.
Between Ole and the away support Utd have got their pride and dignity back. Just couldn’t imagine this situation back in December.
