Obviously all of these players won't be promoted or be considered first team material, But from that long list of players it still shows me that we have a fairly decent squad. Everybody says we need to be This and that to match Barcelona well i don't think Sir Alex is thinking about Barcelona, he's probably thinking about Manchester United and what's best for us.

If he decides to buy nobody for the centre of midfield and then next season completely overhaul it with inside players from our own squad then so be it, Whatever he chooses i'm more than happy with.

At the end of the day he's known as the Best manager in the history of Football for a reason, come September 1st you may decide to Criticize Sir Alex but when June 1st 2012 comes round and we're STILL league Champions with a great domestic and European cup run everybody will change their opinions.

Me personally, I'm going to stick by Sir Alex and not make my judgements on players until next summer when they've done their work.

Last time i heard a Barcelona and Sanchez rumor it was completely false. I thought Barcelona wanted Fabregas as their no. 1 signing. If it is all false which i hope it is, i think we still have a good shot at signing Sanchez.

Still not sure that the sanchez deal is done. Fabregas is their no 1 target and they won't want to spend any kitty til that deal is done. They would then need to offload villa to fund the deal of Sanchez and at nearly 30 years old I can't see huge money being paid for him.

Even after all this there is still confirmed interest in Rossi and barca have had a bid rejected!

Also the fact that soriano is prepared to go in the deal means little. He is a B squad player and would be happy to go to ANY epidural team to be involved in first team duties...

Just my thoughts

Toby
------------------------------
Toby, I think we need to forget about Sanchez. He's going to Barca, where he will be a huge success.

My hope is that we blood the likes of Morrison, Pogba and Tunni with an inspirational leader alongside them. Someone who these young players aspire to, look up to and want to learn from on and off the pitch - ala Eric Cantona. If we could bring in just 1 player to become a role model for our excellent young internal talent, this is certainly worth more than just buying Sneijder, Sanchez, etc. and a step in the right direction if we want to compete with the likes of Barca.

The question is who???.......

Based on this theory, this is why I think Modric was such an attraction to SAF. Fits this role perfectly.

I'd have a plump at a certain Gourcuff possibly. Someone who oozes charisma, wonderful technique, vision and an all round superb player...... Just my opinion though gents.

Quickly reading through these pages it seems that informed rumours have us signing about 10 new players and that is just today. I'm surprised that with so many 'new signings' that we only seem to be selling around 4 or 5 players, surely Rooney / Vidic / Rio / Hernandez and a few others will need to move on to fund these changes and keep our squad down to 22, any ideas where they are all going ed

i was having a very well overdue visit to the public toilets in salford where none other than martin ferguson pulled up in his car to have a private chat or atleast he thought it was private, as he didnt realise i was curling one out. anyway, the news this week will be that charlie adam will been our 'playmaker' next year!! not so sure i'm happy about this news chaps!! thats all, Jamal.

Sorry Jamal, But Martin ferguson is over at the under 21 tournament

looking at Eng U21s Wellbeck doesn't look too great. He has pace but not an eye for goal and is abit sloppy when in possession.

We really only have Rooney, Hernandez, Owen and Berba (maybe). If berba goes we can't exactly rely on owen who is injury prone. Great player when fit and still looks good. I think he will start a few games to start off with as Hernandez is in gold cup and will be given an extended break.

So if we sign Adam then so be it. I think he is better than Carrick. Carrick has lost his passion and urgency that is needed to drive Man Utd.

I think tunnicliffe might be given a chance in pre-season along with Pogba and Morrison to show their worth and if there ready.

Would be worth it as all three look exceptional talents. We have flecther who does a good job and is underrated. But Anderson needs to prove his worth, its now or never for him.

Be nice for some English talent to be brought through instead of the foreigners who are stopping these talents from progressing. Its only the smaller clubs who are really willing to let them play as they can't afford to buy top players.

Hence this is the reason why England do so poor.
Have england replaced scholes, neville, beckham, shearer etc.

We rely on Rooney n co too much. Walcott not done much, neither has Lennon. G. Johnson poor.

Well moan now over and come on Utd for new season

Ed what do you think?

Syd what do you think? {Ed004's Note - I think too many fans under rate Carrick}

The Vidal situation at the minute stands with only 1 club expressing an interest in him and made official contact with Bayer and that was Napoli.

I thought at the time that they were searching for avenues of replacing Hamsik but neither situation has moved on since so I dont know where they are at now.

Bayern did approach Bayer and Vidals agent last Dec but were rebuffed by Bayer and Voller then released a statement saying they were now going to offer him a new deal. As of now that deal still stands but with only a year left on his contract im sure it will be sold on with the threat of nothing the year after so with that in mind his price tag will be low and he would have very reasonable wages.

Very much "value for money" IMO.

Why would Madrid sell a player who played all but 3 of their games last season (in all competitions) and clocked in with 9 goals and 20 assists? He cost them near enough £32m (including incentives) only last season and has improved dramatically in that time. Berbatov on the other hand is a player in decline with only one year left on his contract. Even if Madrid were for some bizare reason interested in this deal - Di Maria would not be.

There are many of us who believe the Glazers are adverse to spending a large amount of money on key players, that we are hamstrung by a large debt which defines their decisions. Whilst this has been pretty obvious over the last three years we do need to give them time this summer to show whether the development if the team is really their intention or just to increase the net asset value of the club.
The transfer window doesnt close until 31st August and we need to see what happens. However if the answer is Adam and then we hear anything of the no value in the market tripe again plus we made an offer for xxx who had already agreed to sign for someone else then it really is time to start dealing with the owner situation.

Red Man"""
dear mr redman
ngiak totally agrees with you
but you will notice ngiak has been rather quiet on that front
cos the dateline for transfers is the end of august
and the start of transfers is the 1st of july
they deserve a chance to prove themselves
like mr moon says
just because we did not get "OUR OWN" wishlists does not mean that the club did not get theirs
who predicted jones will be a man united player 2 weeks ago? none?
so lets see who we get and why...
actually ngiak is glad we are "missing" out on sanchez and sneijder etc
we dont need them, and their negative influence off the pitch

scholes was great player but i think maybe a little over-rated, now don't all jump down my neck but i just don't rate him ahead as giggs/cantona/keane, he is only a yr or so younger than giggs but over 200 games less.he was a very good player but we will win without him"""
dear unnamed sir
ngiak feels sad for you.
clearly, you have not seen scholes in his prime... ie you have only started supporting man united the last 2 - 3 years (maybe less)
he had a serious eye injury etc, thats why he did not play as many games...
there has been no player in the whole of england in the last 16 years with his vision
there are less than a handful of players in the history of the premier leagus that could hold onto a ball better
there has been no player in the last 16 years who could consistantly pass the ball across the field to another player's feet while that player was on the run
there was not a player in the entire premier league history that was more humble and an example of how a man should lead his life with family as the main priority
ngiak is really sad for you that you are a man united fan and have not seen these qualities of the best midfielder man united has ever seen, creative-wise and skill-wise
you have missed something really really special
you have missed a true legend of the WORLD of soccer in paul scholes
ngiak and the world will really miss him.

19 Jun 2011 15:23:31
I am so bored with the same old names coming up again and again then the tears when they join another club. These are people that Fergie hasn't mentioned just the press who probably get their story off this page or from some agent trying to bump up the fee on his player. It suits United to be mentioned with these players as it makes the supporters think that they really are going to spend money on a world class player and not a maybe. It is far more important that we pay off those lovely Americans debts and pay them a £10 million consultancy fee than buy great players that would improve the team. Surely the most important thing is to not be a great football team playing great football it is to be a brand that can be taken all round the world. Selling shirts in the far east is miles more important than looking after young supporters in Salford. I know there are those amongst you who think that the American owners are bad people, but you are wrong a £750 million pound debt is a good thing and bumping up the season ticket prices to pay off the debt is also good. Lets face it who wants great footballers and affordable prices for local people that doesn't make sense. Lets hope these terrible people who want to free the club from all it's debt don't get their way how will the lovely Americans pay for all those houses and Malls without your money. RAINFISHTROMBONE

id be happy if we signed any 2 of Goetze, Marin, Coutinho, Martin, Jovetic, Hernanes, and any 1 of Hazard, Neymar, mata
I think all the players listed except, neymar, and mata would be relatively cheap, (considering 20m for jones) and potentialy world class.
15-20 Coutinho who's extremely talented may be unsettled and easy to lure due to Inters constant chopping and changing of managers.
10-15m Stevan Jovetic whos as good as modric is recovering from injury but then again we did buy Van Nistlerooy injured.
15m Marvin Martin is extremely impressive with his ball control and Scholes esc arriving late in the box to score ability may be avalible on the cheap.
10-15 Hernanes who seems to be a complete midfielder with great vision, dribbling and passing range, he has the ability to dictate games.
15-20m Marko Marin who has great close control running with ball and an ability of bending in shots from tight angles.
15-20m Mario Goetze is another touted as to being the next big thing a solid offer would force dortmund into selling.

Barca's transfer budget is £45 million so how can they buy sanchez for £30 mil and also make contact with arsenal to buy fabregas? maybe sanchez could be heading to manchester

Firstly the original news which came out of Barcelona was that: "Barcelona have announced that they can afford to spend at least 45 million on transfers this summer." - The key words being 'at least'.

They also say this amount will be supplemented with any money gained from player sales. Given that they sold Mart n C ceres (Sevilla FC) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan) for a combined total of E27m and look to gain at least another E10m from the sale of Bojan to Roma... their transfer kitty stands at AT LEAST E82m.

Rossi will end up costing them somewhere in the region of E25m and the figure quoted for Sanchez seems to be E28m. That leaves AT LEAST E29m available for Fabregas who they're expecting to pay no more than E35m for.

If they really needed to they could also bring in at least E25m with the sales of Jeffren, Thiago, and Adriano (whose futures at Barca are all uncertain) just to make sure.

I hate to say it (as I think Sanchez should have been our number one priority!) but Sanchez, Fabregas and Rossi could all very easily (and more than likely will) end up at Barca. To make it worse I really don't see David Villa going anywhere as a result of that.

as united fans we should be used to missing out on targets. I know the younger fans can't take it. And it shouldn't happen but it does. Its how we respond thats important. For example we missed out on shearer never should have happened but we went and signed cantona and er dublin instead. We missed shearer again a second time and instead for a tenth of shearer's fee we signed ogs and he didn't turn out too bad eh bayern? We missed out on ronaldinho and bought cristiano and i bet part of dinho regrets it now. So i'm sure that we will sign someone who will be successful and in years to come will count their medals whilst others sit counting their money.

we need a central midfielder not a winger/forward player. So why spend 30-40m on sanchez? Theres only two players i would spend that kind of money on and thats either jack Wilshere or javi Martinez if we can't get either of those two then Kagawa could be an alternative but for no more than 20m max. Other than that a cheeky 10-15m bid for sami Khedira. With anyone of those players i think would make a big improvement to the squad along with De Gea Jones and Young. Any other players would be youngsters like lucas Digne and maybe one of E.Torres or A.Morata. That would be as much as i would expect. So one more midfield player and a couple of youngsters maybe.

Why do United always seem to struggle when it comes to trying to buy the most established players in the world. We seem to "monitor" their situations for a year or two and then lose out to someone else. It really pi@@es me off! We're supposed to be the best and biggest club in the world so why the hell do we always struggle to attract the top names to old trafford....ozil, di maria, benzema, sanchez (agreed deal with barca), modric (wants Chelsea), sneijder....the list goes on!!!
I'm pleased we're signing some of the best up and coming youngsters in the world....chicharito, smalling, jones, pogba, de gea etc etc but I just have a feeling that we're gonna have to settle for de gea, jones & young this summer (maybe with the addition of a couple more youngsters coming in!!!
HOPE I'M WRONG THOUGH!!
Would love modric, sanchez, coentrao, & javi martinez to sign to give us more skill & creativity.

I have to say I'm getting a bit fed up with some of the negative nonsense people are posting here. First, if we miss out on Sneijder, Nasri, Sanchez and Modric, that's life. All big clubs miss out on players they want. Whilst I'd like to see any one of the 4 at OT, they aren't the only great players in Europe currently. How about Martinez, Gotze, Hazard, Hamsik, Eriksen, Inler, Pastore, Hernanes etc? On top of that, just because someone isn't a big name, it doesn't mean they're not a quality player - one of SAF's talents down the years has been finding players on the cusp of being great. If they choose to play elsewhere, or they want wages that are simply too high, fine, we'll find players who do have the necessary level of desire to play for us instead. So let's all wait until September 1st and judge who we've managed to sign through the summer then. I personally think we've made a good start - Jones is quality and I think Young will be a big asset in the squad.

In terms of United "always missing out" - when we missed out on Ronaldinho it was because we chose not to get involved in an auction for him, not because he didn't want to come to OT. Anyway, we all know who we ended up signing after losing out in that chase - and that hardly turned out that badly, did it?

We all know we need at least midfielders and its clear the club is trying to sign them. So let's wait and see, shall we?

With regards to C*****e A**m. It is entirely possible we'll end up signing him, I guess. If he comes for £8m or £10m, then in terms of today's transfer market, it's probably a gamble worth making. Most people's problem with him isn't his ability (he has a sweet left peg) but with his attitude and, in particular, his own personal commitment to making himself the best footballer he could be. If he ends up pulling on a United shirt, then I'll put aside my own prejudices and wait and see how he performs for us.

If Nani leaves, Nani leaves. I have never had Nani marked down as a long-term United player - he was always likely to get itchy feet at some point and head for Italy or Spain. I think he's a very good player but I don't see him as being remotely irreplaceable.

And, as Syd and Ngiak have often said - the youth coming through has great potential. We need to give Tunnicliffe, Pogba, Morrison, Keane and Cleverley a chance. They might not take it, but there needs to be space for them to grow at United.

anyone else fed up with all the weeping and wailing over modric and sanchez? Yes they are the two players i'd most like to see us sign. But at the moment they haven't signed for anyone else. And if they do then screw them its their loss not ours. Plenty more cows in the field.

Barcelona's midfield have grown up through their club.

This creates longevity and loyalty, and players like Scholes, Becham, Neville(s), Giggs etc. demonstrate that this is the way we should re-build for long-term success.

We need to bring our own youth through and I am worried that buying 'big name' midfielders will slow this process down or even prevent it.

Look at what we already have;

Tunnicliffe
Cleverley Pogba Morrison

Let Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson and Park 'hold the fort' for a season, allowing us to introduce the youngsters slowly through the season from the bench, Carling Cup etc.

We don't need to buy midfield mercenaries. Our young midfield could be best in the world soon. The future is bright!

barca's transfer budget is £45 million so how can they buy sanchez for £30 mil and also make contact with arsenal to buy fabregas? maybe sanchez could be heading to manchester

Perhaps Barca aren't telling the truth to supress expectations of clubs who have players they are interested in. You don't really believe any club would come out and give an honest declaration how much they can spend do you?

barcelona is not a limited company and must release financial reports showing that only £45 million of the budget was alloted to transfers

To the person who wrote: scholes was great player but i think maybe a little over-rated, now don't all jump down my neck but i just don't rate him ahead as giggs/cantona/keane...................This must go down as one of the most stupid posts I have ever read on this site. No wonder you didn't leave your name on the post you must be so ashamed of yourself. I can't even blame it on you being a Scouser you are just stupid. Zidane still regrets never getting the opportunity to play with the Ginger maestro who every top player in Europe admired. But hey what do they know they are all over rating him. I hope you do the decent thing and apologise. RAINFISHTROMBONE

Can people please stop suggesting Rooney play in center midfield. It's a stupid idea. He's a natural footballer who can probably play well anywhere, but he will not be playing deeper next season.
He will play as a striker or just off the striker, and that's exactly where he should be.

If Barca have 45 million to spend, that will al go towards Fabregas. The only way they will buy Sanchez is if they sell... and why would David Villa want to leave the European champions?
I just cant see how Barca can get Sanchez, only way is deal now in place for next season.

Look if Sanchez is a United fan then no way he will join barca, ..well he could but atleast not when united are also chasing for his signature.
So the point is, if he really wants to play for united he will sign for us.
If he doesn't we will look for someone else and SAF will make him the best player in the world.
If sanchez doesn't sign for united he is the one who should have regret not us.

Valencia-----Rooney--Nani/Young

Massive united fan, have said for past 2-3 years now , that our only big problem area is centre mid, no creativity whatsoever! We need to go all out to sign 2 world class midfielders, we would be quality! Someone like nasri or sneijder, alongside a sweinsteiger type player, with toni and nani out wide, we really do need it, and i just feel well end up without anything decent coming in! We have missed out on sanchez , and we will miss out on modric too! An unhappy united fan :(

People need to think before they type. They say about missing out on all the big players. Well as far as I can tell, none of the ones we want have signed anywhere yet, so they are still possible. Plus as has been said it is JUNE. the window is open for over 2 more months. Wait until September before whinging!

Last season we won the league and got runner up in Europe on potential, so if Fergie does it again is it such a bad thing? Yes he does want to beat Barcelona, but i think he knows it won't be an overnight job and may take a couple of years or so, after all it took Barca more than a year to get where they are now.

Just believe in Fergie and MUFC.

First off what am I going to do with my Bebe shirt??
Anyway SAF should sign;
1. Charlie Adam - great set pieces, corners, and has heart..unlike carrick and anderson. It would also annoy Kenny!
2. Gareth Bale - better than Sanchez and probably a bit cheaper and we know he can play in the premiership.
3. Adel Taarabt - The creative playmaker we need, has a terrible attitude but SAF can sort that out. Hes worth a gamble on anyway....compared to Bebe he looks a sure thing!

Out:
Gibson
Carrick
Anderson
Obertan
Evans
