Jones best position? rb,cb or cm?

For me it has to be cm he has a great footballing brain and is a beast and would solve our problem lacking the engine part of mf, and we'd only need to focus on getting a creative mf. Dont think he has the quick feet for the 1 on 1s with strikers as shown in the yakubu goal also his positioning in other games was shown to be bad when teams scored against us.
what do you think is his best position?

Read with interest all the recent comments. My wish for 2012 would be for Fergie to bring a new , young, innovative coach into his back room team. Sorry, but I think that Phelan and Van Meulenstein have had their time at OT and perhaps their methods and influence have become stale ? They don't come across as being the most inspirational of coaches and perhaps it's time to freshen this up, more so when one considers Fergies age. Out there must be some budding Guardiolas and Mourinhos who would jump at the chance of working with Fergie and bring some new ideas into the club.
Fergie is a god and we all recognise that ( at least we should do ) but he has to have quality in and around him , who are constantly working at raising standards and keeping the players motivated.

So guys what's the consensus of opinion on the first half of the season. Despite this weekends results, I think that it has seen more ups than downs and expect this year to see quite a significant transformation at OT.
Ups - Jones, Charity Shield, Arsenal and the fact that we are still, somehow 2nd in the league.
Downs - City, Champions League Campaign, lack of incomings, Crystal Palace and general inconsistency.

One thing that we as fans arent seeing now is that Fergie seems to have lost the hunger he had for success for Man U...,Coaching Man U is like a routine check to him,pushing time and SAF has accumulated so much power,status and fame at United that he knows nobody can fire him,so he can do what he wants and then apologises and move on..Fergie is now complacent guys,,yes he is a legend and i wont take that away from him,but its time we put a new mind,fresh and hungrier for success....what do u think guys and Edd? {Ed001's Note - I don't believe that for a second.}

I think there is probably some degree of truth to these stories about SAF having had an argument with Rooney. He was rested for a majority of the Wigan game and whilst we do play Newcastle on Wednesday, he wasn't even on the bench against Blackburn. It's just the equivalent of having a CL game midweek. I also think that there is a possibility that Rooney would have dispelled these rumours if they were utter rubbish on his twitter account. I'm sure we will found out more in the coming weeks.

For people urging for a big name signing..
Guyzz is Martinez , Eriksen , Modric , Alba , Hazard , Gotze , Shaqiri , Gaitan etc available for a transfer in Jan..? Have they moved to any other club..? No..
When Clubs moved for our target Phil Jones we moved in with 16.5 M to get him..
dint we..? So be sensible..

For People crying about Pogba and Morrison being not played or given chances

They maybe technically gifted n ready , physically ready but are they mentally ready to step up..? SAF is the best person who knows them as he has seen them more than u and me.. Plus Fergie has always been particular about this thing in Youth..

For a youth player playing for Blackburn rovers and for Manchester United is a HUGE difference..! So guyzz get real and support SAF and the beloved Club..!

well done to sunderland today unexpected result, happy birthday sir Alex, now after yesterday hope that we bring in one or two new faces while we are still in the hunt for the title.1 i Would love to see Ryan Shawcross come back he would add many things premier exprience, height, courage and is a proper old fashoned centre half,2 would like Rodwell as he can also cover the CB position aswell as his midfeild role.About yesterdays game would have thought Fergie would have stuck with lindergaurd knowing that blackburn have big attackers and are a tall team and are dangerous at set peaces as he is more comanding in the air,1 last point as we had know one as tall as Samba i would have marked him for that free kick with are smallest man and targeted tha second ball no danger of him scoring from there so no need to give a penilty away.Thank you

Cuenca from Barca sounds like a genuine transfer option, 11 performances, 4 goals and he's only 20. He has better stats than someone established like Jesus Navas.

Also i'd like to bring attention to the newly circulating Hazard rumours, what a player he would be here under the right guidance. So versatile, playing in any attacking position - i'd be very happy with him. I would like either him or Bale at the club for sure. I'd like to see Rodwell here too.

And i don't think Rooney is going to leave, not this year at least. And to be honest, it wouldn't bother me if he did leave if we got say Ozil and Higuain/Benzema.

De Gea

Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra

Nani, Rodwell/Carrick, Cleverly, Ozil

Hazard, Benzema/Higuain

That would be a great line up, it would be better than out current line up with or without Rooney.

I'm extremely worried now, especially after Fergies latest comments,'why should we try n put a sticking plaster on our team'.firstly fergie your admitting there's a problem but you don't want to do anything about it.crazy if you ask me.
'Ryan Griggs and Michael carricks form have been outstanding'.?? I don't know if anyone agree but Ryan Giggs maybe still a threat but couldn't play week in week out at his age and Michael carrick in my opinion is and has been the worst utd midfielder last season and this season apart from the last 3 games where he has buckt up a tad.
then he goes on to say that, his only worry is his centre backs, that going forward and midfield are ok??
Is he drinking to much whiskey lately?yes we are a shambles at the back because of injuries, but our midfield is also in tatters even with no injuries.right now he's trying to put versatile players in the middle instead of giving the young players a chance.but it's blatantly obvious he needs to buy 2 top midfielders and it goes behond belief with the record and experience of Alex ferguson,he doesn't recognise or doesn't want to invest in doing so to sort the problem, especially when we are already out of cl and are on a slow decline.
IMO I can't see us winning anything this season or next season if Fergies doesn't go and invest in 2 midfielders and 1 striker especially if berba,Owen, maceda, are going.well I think he shud get rid of them nway.

just a thought
Fergie is always going on about youth and how no need to spend big bucks on players when he can generate players from within but..... against blackburn we had no cms and he played a rb and a winger there when he cud of played ravel morrison or pogba.
From yesterdays side only 1 player was from the youth and that was welbeck the rest were brought in..
sure even smalling and jones were bought for 10 and 16.5 mil respectively.
im gettin the feeling fergie is always stalling sez hes happy with what hes got spends whole summer tryin to get sneijder, says he wasnts to promote the youth plays older players out of posistion.
i always supported united through thick and thin and i believe fergie is probably the best manager ever but im beginning to get sick of the lack of honesty with the fans, rooney may of been punished for whatever reasons but if true would fergie of said he is beiing punished, alex mcleish punished charles nzogbia publicly last week by not playing him and said it to the press. This would stop us or the press cumin up with ideas of what we think is the reason etc.

in conclusion were not buying ny1 were not promoting the youth so what is going on?

How cunning is Ferguson!!

Yes you lost yesterday because he had/chose to play his 2nd string reserve team, but thats because his 1st string reserve team were busy beating City 1-0!

That guy is always one step ahead! Whilst Barca choose to develop players to play for THEM, he chose to develop players to sell to OTHER TEAMS so that they could beat his rivals!!

inter milan - sneijder and 25mil

Id let him go to Madrid for Ozil and Higuain in a straight swap. Or one of those and some cash. Barca i would ask for Thiago and Cash also.

What would it take for you to let go of Rooney?

You all want to get a grip.

*Rooney gets rested for a game we were expected to win and suddenly he's being sold.

*The Mirror spends the last 2 months s**t stirring over Pogba's contract and now they've moved on to s**t stirring over Morrisons contract and you all believe them?

The Mirror is one of the most anti-United papers there is. Staffed full of glory hunting scouse supporters and one of the worst rags for blowing smoke up Wengers backside over his wonderful youth policy whilst ignoring 6 years without a trophy and the fact our kids are better.

Yes Fergie made a mistake in team selction, we deserved to lose. The whole birthday rubbish should have been saved for full time.

I notice everyone has missed the comment he made before kick off that he is off in 3 years time.

We'll bounce back. This is one of the worst injury crises i have seen and we do need to do something, but as has been said which top clubs will sell their best players in January?

Should we panic buy and end up with players like Gary Cahill? Someone only on the same level as the much maligned Jonny Evans?

The players we want, the players that can imporve us like Ozil, Eriksen etc etc will not be available in January, its an awful time for top clubs to do business, its just a market for panic buys and the relegation fodder to try and sign players. I see today quotes from Harry Redknapp saying that he will only buy in January if a special player is available. Exactly the same words that Fergie used.

So stop weeping and wailing, man up and grow a pair and support the club. Keep the pressure on the Glazers to get the chequebook out, but don't expect world class till the summer.

No signings for united in jan so stop posting your dream list, fergie say the midfield is fine, what a wally.Sir Alex Ferguson has no plans to make a 'sticking plaster' signing in the January transfer window and has faith in his Manchester United squad.

The Red Devils missed the chance to go top of the Premier League on Saturday when they suffered a shock 3-2 Old Trafford defeat at the hands of struggling Blackburn.

And with United having already been dumped out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stage, there were suggestions that Ferguson would look to bring in new faces this month.

A lack of creativity in midfield was highlighted in the recent defeats by Basle and Rovers, while captain Nemanja Vidic's season-ending knee ligament injury has caused concerns at the back.

With fellow centre-backs Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans also on the treatment table, Ferguson admits he does have defensive headaches, but will not be looking to strengthen.

The veteran tactician believes that players of a leading calibre are rarely available in January and insists he is happy with the strength in depth he has in all other areas of his side.

"Why should you put a sticking plaster on something? We're quite happy with what we've got at the moment."
Sir Alex Ferguson Quotes of the week
Versatile

He said: "Why should you put a sticking plaster on something? We're quite happy with what we've got at the moment.

"Who is going to sell their best player in January? I don't see it happening.

"I would like to get one or two out on loan, particularly the young strikers, but at the moment we don't need to do anything.

"The form of Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick has been outstanding.

"I'm lucky I've got versatile players like Ji-sung Park, Antonio Valencia and Giggs who can play in a variety of positions and give me options.

"The crucial thing, though, is to get our centre-backs back. That's the only caution I have about my team. Forward-wise and in midfield, we're OK."

Still perplexed by the Rooney situation. On the face of what is being said by the media Rooney went out for a quiet meal with wife and Evans and Gibsons. They paint it as a sensible evening, almost something Rooney be be applauded by. As such if these facts are true, and I a big supporter of Ferguson, surely he has made an error on this occasion. Or are the facts wrong and it wasn't such a "quiet" night?!

Has anyone else got a view, or the ed got any other info on "the facts?"

Everyone here likes to play who they want in and out. So just for a bit of change lets play another one.
Name the players that you will be disappointed to see if they were signed (only the ones that are being linked). Take into account their abilities, price and specially how they can change our team.
(1). Rodwell: Wont bring anything new to our already amazing squad. Can be a squad player though, if he costs around 8m.
(2). Modric: He is not World Class. He maybe good but not even worth 25m. Another Carrick (without defensive qualities). Would like to have him if he is available for around 18m.
(3). Sneijder: Why to waste 25m and such high wages on a player who will be missing half of our matches, many of which might be important ones. Very injury prone but is World Class so would like to see him if available for 20m and on a pay as you play package.
(4). Gaitan: Though the rumors have slowed down but if he comes I would be devastated. Not worth 30m or 25m or even 20m. Would have him for upto 17m or maybe 20m as his wages are very less.
(5). Torres: Why waste so much money? Even if he finds his form we'll again have to look for his replacement in 3 or 4 years. Right now Berba is better than him.
(6). Khedira: Not so sure about this one but he doesnt seem to be good enough. Real wont drop him for no reason.

Might be forgetting a few names but feel free to add and even blast me for some of my choices.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

On de gea for the people saying his a bad keeper that's a bit daft also for those saying his going to be the best in the world ,that's a bit over the top as well ,what he is is a good young prospect who probably isnt quite ready experience confidence to be united keeper.
On united although fergy made a mistake yesterday I honestly think he has been over achieving with this current squad over the last couple of years.
I really don't know what is going on at united everybody can see we need an injection of real top class quality and we are told there is money there so why no big name ?
Also for a manager who as always giving youth a chance , if pogba is as good as people think why didn't he get a game yesterday, if his not playing against bottom of the table at home and is behind a rb returning from injury you have to question how he will get a game when a few more of the lads have come back from injury.
A lot of the lads on this site seem to of only known the fergy years and think that success is guaranteed but some of the older lads can see the cracks.
We have new owners who still have plenty of questions to answer , fergys is coming to end of his career as well as some of our top players , how do you replace ferdy scholes giggs and fergy

Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder is back on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar with Inter Milan willing to sell the Dutch star to any club who meets their £25 million valuation.

Inter president Massimo Moratti has met with the Dutchman’s agent, Soren Lerby, and told him his client will be allowed to leave if the asking price is met, according to the People.

Manager Claudio Ranieri does not want to lose Sneijder but Moratti is planning for the future and is keen to build a new-look Inter around rising Brazilian star Lucas, it said.

Ranieri is involved in a battle to keep Sneijder at the San Siro.

“Sneijder is our crown jewel,” said Ranieri. “He is not just a squad member, he is the main man. He has to be the leader of the team.

“I don’t want him to go anywhere. I want him to stay here at Inter. He belongs here in this squad. There is still so much room for improvement and more success here.”

Now, Ranieri has admitted that there is fresh interest in the 27-year-old – and Sir Alex Ferguson has said that United’s owners will back him in the transfer market if a top player becomes available.

Selling Sneijder would allow Inter to make their move for Sao Paulo’s 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who has already been capped 10 times.

Dutch international midfielder Sneijder has been a long-term target for Manchester United and could have moved to Old Trafford in the summer if he had reduced his £250,000-a-week wage demands.

After days like yesterday I think it is best to wait a while to comment so that the emotions calm down.
A few things struck me about yesterday and also concerned me greatly with regards to our great football club. The word I would use best to sum up most of yesterday was arrogance, that goes from the posters on here who were forecasting scores of 3, 4 or 5 against Blackburn, the whole birthday celebrations before the game, right down to the team selection of Fergie.
Many things have been said about the team selection, in my opinion Fergie was dismissive of Blackburn in his selection. To play a RB just returning from injury in CM was ridiculous, but then I think it says more about Fergie's confidence in Pogba that he is reluctant to pick them. Ask yourself this, would you want a youngster playing away at OT to an in form United or would you want a youngster playing at home against a team that is bottom of the table. That was the dilema facing the two managers yesterday and Kean had his faith in his youngsters returned with the 3 pts. Only Fergie knows why he won't pick Pogba, but I cannot believe that the apparent policy of picking anyone but him is helping Pogba to see a long term future at United. Let's not forget that a certain ex Blackburn youngster was playing regularly in the EPL at Pogba's age and the current crop of Blackburn youngsters on view yesterday have not been so highly talked about as Pogba.
Whether the rumours of a fall out with Rooney are true or not we should have had Giggsy at least on the bench if Rooney for whatever reason was not going to be involved. Our options for changing the game were extremely limited without him, with a midfield of Park and Raphael we were crying out for some invention. Anderson had a positive impact and for 20 minutes looked like he would change the game for us, driving forward instead of going backwards and sideways, the pace of our game picked up with his introduction.
We had Carrick marking the Yak, not quite sure why when we had a player who played most of last season in the EPL as a CB stood alongside him, surely Jones should have marked him. Truth was that we found the Yak unplayable and everytime he got the ball we looked unsure of ourselves and we were bullied off the ball, he ran us ragged.
There were many other problems that could be highlighted, but suffice to say, Fergie gambled and we lost, simple as that. Nobody at OT or even the 'experts' on here forecasted Fergie's team selection, so as Fergie takes the plaudits when he gambles successfully so he has take the blame when his gambles don't pay off, thankfully his gambles pay off most off the time.
The concerns yesterday were about the mindless idiots who booed off the team at half time.
Those people should be ashamed of themselves, we support United no matter what and get behind the team. It seems that some of the 'Fergie generation' of fans think we have a divine right to win things, well sorry folks that isn't how it goes. Many people like myself have lived through relegation in the 70s and are enjoying the Fergie years, but we all know that football goes in cycles, look down the East Lancs Road. During the 70s and 80s the Scousers were dominant and if you had said to anyone in the late 80s that they would go 20 years without a title you would have been carried off to the nuthouse. We support United, whether we are top of the league or bottom of the league, so anyone who found themselves booing yesterday at half time should hang their heads in shame or alternatively go and follow another team because we don't need or want you.

Well to say I was raging coming out of that ground yesterday was an understatement. Disgrace absolute disgrace. Complete and utter disrespect for not only me and 70 odd thousand like me, but to Blackburn as well. Part of me is glad Blackburn won to show him up for what he is. There is every likelihood that the next time we kick a ball in anger in the premiership we will be 6 points behind them lot. That coupled with an anticipated mauling next Sunday in the FA cup.

That is how important yesterday was and he fields a team like that. Drops a keeper who has kept clean sheets regularly. Plays about 6 players out of position and then has the audacity to come on the television blaming everyone apart from himself.

We aren't good enough to field weakened sides anymore and don't reply to this going on about injuries it doesn't wash with me. Quantify the CL exit if your going to do that.

Me and fans like me want answers now. Have we got the money or not? Furthermore would it make any difference if you are not going to play your star players anyway. We got ourselves back in to a fantastic position in the league, having the advantage after the derby of not having to play anyone worth talking about. Boxing Day I was cock a hoop, them dropping points and knowing that we could start 2012 3 pts clear at the top of the pile.

Through one persons complete arrogance and disrespect for opposition, now look at the picture. Don't blame the Glazers they don't pick the team. I felt more sorry for blokes there yesterday walking out with young kids on there shoulders having to answer questions like 'Why didn't Rooney or Giggs play daddy'. The shocking truth is even if we would have bought Sniejder, Messi and Iniesta in the Summer they would have probably been in the stands wearing United tracksuits yesterday.

Thanks for everything you have done for the club down the years, but you are not more important than the club and you are beginning to get on my wick. Now go

Well SYD you were kinda right about Rooney's absense being due to a "Strain", bad news is the strain is between him and SAF, here we go again with the obvious Rooney not happy and going to City rumours that will now follow!

All you idiots who are coming on here criticising SirAlex and the team should open their eyes and see where the real problem lies. Sir Alex is doing an unbelievable job with his hands financially tied having a net spend of less than Stoke in the last 5 years he has still produced a team challenging for the title. He is getting the best from some very mediocre players but that is his magic. Imagine if he had owners who wanted to invest in the club rather than rape it. I know people will come on and say same old RAINFISHTROMBONE going on about the Glazers, but remember what I said about lack of investment and an ever weaker squad. Please don't come on and tell me the money is available if Fergie wants it when it is quite obviously not. Yes Fergie protects the owners and he has his own reasons for that but remember today he will be hurting just as much as you or I and making sure we are right back on track starting on Wednesday.RAINFISHTROMBONE

How many times has it been it said the club is bigger than one player but it appears the club is not bigger than the manager and is that becoming an issue?

SAF decision making on team selection yesterday was woeful, his continual denial of the issues disappointing. But what has frustrated me is this butt kissing syncophantic nonsense with a choir and singing to him before kick off. Would Sir Matt have wanted that painful love in before a game, I dont believe so.

The club needs to up its game and quickly. At the Etihad the sign saying thank you Sheikh Mansour was something we laughed at, yet here we are with a choir for SAF.

SAF is our manager not our spiritual leader and needs to open his eyes to the problems and not remain in denial. At the same time the club needs to realise SAF is a top manager but he is just one cog in the wheel and stop placing such emphasis on him.

So now the FA report is out and it is proved that Suarez is not only a racist but a lying one at that will Liverpool and Dogleash finally show some class and humility by condemning their player for the vile scum that he is. And to add to that now you Liverpool supporters who didn't have a new years eve as you were so busy on this site come out and condem the man and your club and manager for the way they have behaved? RAINFISHTROMBONE {Ed002's Note - If you had read the report you would know it explicitly states Suarez is not a racist.}

People are slating "Plastic" fans for being upset at our current lack of options. Please understand this...I have been a united fan for over 25 years and things just dont seem right at the minute. Infact things havent seemed right since we sold Ronaldo. United need more creativity thats obvious...I dont believe going out and sepnding bucket loads of money is the answer, but it has to concern you that Fergie comes up with the same excuses in each transfer window...no value in market etc...clubs must move with inflation or get left behind...and that is what is happening at united atm...the club need to move forward and MUST sign someone to fill the holes in CM and Defence...

SAF is a genius but hes still human and can make mistakes. I dnt get it when people who know Football not even half as much he knows comes out to slate him. We played too many players out of position , its true and we paid the price but when his gamble works out you all come out and shower all your praises. Cnt u guyzz stick with team and manager when things go wrong..? Is thats what United fan mentality.? For me thats totally unacceptable.

All u de gea haters need to sort your heads out! People on here describing him as the worst keeper ever?? Wow u guys are a joke!! Trust me de gea wil have the last laugh. In a few years he wil b best in the world! Reina stil makes mistakes, cech does, van der sar did. It happens to them all. Ur just trying to find a scapegoat to blame it all on. Lindegaard is good at organising the defense but it's onli cos he speaks English. Once de gea speaks fluent he wil b fine. Keep the faith in him.

fergie gotta promote lindegard to 1st choice let de gea get some time to adjust to utd life.world class players needed to keep up with city, problem enticing them to come , gotta be like barca stop chopping and changing side when playing so called weaker teams start strong play people in proper positions if short at centre half get 2nd team c/h in.

This has gone too far - Fergie's gotta go. It was bad after the Man C result but now beaten by the bottom club - it's getting embarrassing. Time for Steve McClaren or Pardew to take over.
