Last season Rooney was dispensable, now he's damn good.
Last season RVP was a God, now people say he's not that indispensable.
Manchester United fans.
Rooney is the main reason we are struggling a bit this season going forward if you ask me. He is the individual that has upset the balance. Much rather have a better team than a better Rooney, so he is very much dispensable in my eyes.
He is playing well as an individual but I think it is affecting the team as a whole. I appreciate 99% of people think this is crazy because he has stood out as our best player, but like Mata for Chelsea he doesn't fit the players around him.
Moyes would never drop him though so it's not worth pushing further, I just don't agree with your point personally about Rooney now being indispensable.
RVP is showing signs of an injury hit career and an obvious frustration of Rooney coming from zero to hero in the space of one summer and everything about our game now being geared to giving Rooney the ball as opposed to looking for him first time.
Mrsween,
This is the second time you have posted the same thing, I know it's your opinion and you are welcome to it but nobody agreed with you last time and nobody will agree with you this time either, Rooney works so hard for the team every match what you are saying makes no sense.
GDS2 - Thanks for your feedback - but if I had a quid for every time somebody repeated a point on here I would be loaded. How many times have people said "it's time to get behind the team", "the one bright spark is Rooney", "RVP isn't himself", "Kagawa should get a game", "why isn't Zaha playing".
My repetition was in direct response to the point Nick was making about how fickle Utd fans are. I'm stating that I haven't changed my opinion on Rooney, not re-posting my point as a new conversation starter, maybe he hadn't seen my previous post on Rooney?!
Would you rather people just post "agree", "disagree" - some banter site that would be?
In a few months I think more people will be agreeing with me than you think, but I hope you pick up on everybody that repeats something they have said before, but of course you won't as you will be here all day.
Touch a nerve did I?
I wasn't saying you shouldn't repeat yourself, I was saying that you posted this before and nobody agreed so nobody will agree this time either. I don't even understand what you are saying to be honest. Rooney is working hard so it's affecting the team as a whole? It doesn't make any sense.
MrSween on your original point of Rooney not 'fitting' the players around him. Who does he not play well with? Baring in mind he's played with the majority of them for years! It's quite obvious that the reason we're not doing so well is a combination of not having a great centre mid to partner Carrick and also RvP not being on form.
Mrsween
So you didn't want rooney in the team last year when he wasn't playing well and you don't want him in the team now that he is playing well.
I would agree with you point that you haven't changed your opinion, you don't want rooney in the team
You did a bit pal, haha, because I think it's a really good point that maybe I'm not articulating properly and people are being blinkered by Rooney running around a lot and looking pretty effective compared to the rest of our tem.
We were creating a lot last year and hardly anything this year, the major change is Rooney is now playing regularly and demanding the ball all of the time. If he wasn't playing it would mean the other players are not searching for him whenever they get the ball and maybe we would create more.
I think Rooney seemingly playing well is a product of him working hard and getting the vast majority of the ball. He is undoubtedly performing exceptionally well, but I think as a result of this 4 or 5 players are underperforming. if you take Rooney out then I think those 4-5 players will play much better and as a result the team will be more of a team rather than totally reliant on Rooney and our overall game will improve.
He will likely be going at some point soon and I think putting so many eggs into the Rooney basket may seem logical as he is playing well I bet if we had Kagawa playing in his role and receiving so much of the ball he would create a lot more - he also wouldn't be dropping as deep so our other players have very few options forward wise when we have the ball.
It's like that Beautiful Mind film - Game Theory - you sacrifice the main thing for the betterment of the team, because the main thing is holding the rest back or diverting their focus.
Anyway, never going to happen, but I guarantee Rooney is the primary reason we look so clueless compared to last season. (obviously there are others).
The rvp was playing as well as he was last year there wouldn't be this debate.
I would love to know which 4/5 players would suddenly start playing well as me me out cm isn't good enough nor our wingers, who also weren't that good last year.
Rather than drop rooney I would buy a top class cm, lw and cb
We definitely need to buy some players for those positions.
Carrick, RVP, Evra, Cleverly, Young/Nani, all play better when Rooney isn't playing most of the time - I'd bet we can add Juanjuz and Fellaini to that but who knows yet. He either encroaches into their space, tries a tricky ball so they are out of position or gets the ball instead of them so nullifies their forward play.
Obviously this isn't an exact science and there are occasions where this will be more apparent than others. But watch the second half of todays game and you will see what I mean. When he drops he ruins the flow, Cleverly not coming out had a massive effect and there are always more than one reason for things. But Rooney more often than not adds just as many problems as he creates chances.
He gave it away loads again today, but not once did the commentator mention this. Own goal - when do you see a striker/playmaker score an own goal not connected to a set-piece? It's because he drops far too much all the time, we have players to do the job he tries to do and it annoys me how when we then have the ball we have so few options upfront but everyone praises his work rate getting back etc. Still played quality the first 20 minutes and it seemed to click, but then all went backwards again. Not Rooney's fault entirely, but he isn't as critical to our team as so many people make out.
Lol Sween you crack me up .
Rooney scored 1 made 1 .
Rooney rvp 14 goals between them this season.
United played well first half then had to make 3 subs at half time but the poor second half performance was rooneys fault
Evra nani and young play better when rooney isn't playing.
Lol really just lol
