Konoplyanka was exceptional tonight against a not too shabby but not quite full strength Spurs team. Really impressive tormenting the defence. I would be upset to see him go to Liverpool in the summer as I think he would get brilliantly with Coutinho, Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge etc.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Take Suarez out of that lot. he's gone this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would play ahead of Sterling, if he signs at all. Suarez is what makes Liverpool what they are, take him out and they are ordinary. Still a good side, but not top four.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

Coutinho and Suarez are the guys that makes Liverpool click. If you take them out they are much easier to defend against and will always leak goals.

As well all know, it can be very difficult to sign players due to the competitive nature of the transfer market, with most top teams chasing a lot of the same players. I have said previously that I feel we need a new left back, two central midfield players and competition for Rafael at right back. A central defender and a winger would be on my list as well, though not as high a priority as the others if I am honest.

I believe that our reported top targets, as well as most of our common dream signings, will be very hard to get in the summer. The likes of Vidal, Kroos and Reus would be incredible signings, but would cost huge money and I'm not convinced we would match the fees that their clubs would ask.

So with that in mind, what other players would folk like to see come in?

At centre back, I personally would like us to go for Neven Subotic from Dortmund. Solid, reliable, experienced and wouldn't cost massive money I wouldn't think.

Luke Shaw would be my first choice at left back, but a cheaper alternative could be Ben Davies from Swansea. He has been very impressive since he broke into their team and is betting better all the time. On the right side, I would go for Davide Santon from Newcastle. Prem proven and can play both full back positions.

In midfield, I really like Lars Bender at Leverkusen. A very good player, tidy on the ball and very energetic, really gets about the pitch. I also feel we need a deeper lying playmaker type in there, and would like us to move for Miralem Pjanic of Roma. He will be into the last year of his contract come July and is a really good player, creates a lot of chances and is a good dead ball player.

Out wide, my choice would be Antoine Greizmann from Sociedad. Beautifully balanced player, scores goals, quick and can cross the ball. Would really offer us something different going forward.

These players would all improve our team immensely, while not costing as much as the others mentioned. They are all good players who are still young with great potential to be world class or very close to it. What's everyone elses thoughts on these players and who else would you like to see us consider?

Are people really so eager to see Rafael replaced as United's starting RB? True he hasn't hit the heights of last season, but I don't think he's played as terribly as some people are making it out. We should have a little faith in him. Does Moyes really not think he's good enough? Are there any interviews where he says this?

I think Rafael is one of our better players, and still relatively young. Bringing in a player to have competition for the RB spot would be a good thing, but I don't think finding a replacement for Rafael is much of a priority in the summer imo. Centre mid, centre back, and left back are areas where United's need is much more pressing. Seamus Coleman? I guess we'll see in the summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more. Its not a priority. Promote a youth player as cover and competition maybe but cm, lb and cb are much more urgently needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's far from a priority and if anything should be a luxury. A left back, a central midfielder and a centre back are of pressing concern. A fancy forward, new right back and maybe a versatile full back are three that we could do with but itsn't critical.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ruud
We should definitely keep him.

Rafa strikes me as a bit of a confidence player. Once the turmoil of SAF leaving calms down I would expect to see the Rafa of last season again.
One thing that does need to happen though is that he needs some genuine competition for his place to help bring his game along. Valencia, Jones or Smalling do not offer that.

Both Varela and Janko look good so hopefully these two can start to push him a bit more and bring the best out of him. I do not even think we need to worry about RB position for quite a few years with these guys. Even Vermiljt is having a good season on loan.

On the Coleman debate. Certainly United quality imo; however, I'd rather keep Rafa and develop what we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's an excellent player. Problem is our manager seems to think a lot of players are not good enough, rafael, kagawa, rvp, vidic. When all the players know that it is the manager who is not good enough!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Does the manager really think RVP, Vidic and Rafael are not good enough? At what point has he said that?

Agree0 Disagree0

I just came on to put a similar post lol, was just about to say how fickle some people have been in the last few weeks he's hit a bad run of form and people are calling for his head whereas last year the same people were saying he is the best right back in the league by far and has the potential to be the best in the world. Just shows how quick people can change their optinons. Give the lad a break, he's only 23.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Feb 2014 18:53:35
Is anyone else sick of hearing Van gaal going on about RVP being happier with the Holland squad rather than our squad? He just won't stop sticking his squashed up nose in other peoples business.

This Vidic joining Inter Milan thing is very disrespectful announcing it now. It said he was leaving to stop all the speculation, but he has made it a lot worse. For the rest of the season we are going to give Sky and Martin Tyler more firepower. We can't watch any match nowadays without a commentator giving us an honorary mention of the last time we got beat by one of the teams playing. Especially with Martin Tyler who throws in his opinions all game.

I think commentary was a lot better when there was no co commentator. If you look back at all old matches before the premier league when it was one commentator and all they did was tell us who had the ball, offsides, shots and set pieces. Now we have to listen to both commentators telling us stupid statistics and basically being paid to have a conversation and give opinions. Like who cares if someone was beaten by the opponent 50 years ago, they are not the same players. Sorry about the rant.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Vidic will be a free agent and can sign a pre-contract now.}

Van gaal got no agenda. He just thinks moyes is not up to it. He tells it as it is. Trust me I know him.
Im not saying I agree or disagree but he's just very opinionated. And an excellent coach he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomid

Every post you have made yesterday is as if you ares on complete bender and talking so much nonsense.

Did you ever read what Van Gal said. It is exactly what I was told RVP is very frustrated with quality of wing play and wants better service. He is also not happy with Rooney being the main focus.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin Tyler is the worst commentator I've have ever heard.
He has clearly lost the plot and says the same thing over and over again, expecially if it's got anything to do with a United player that should of been sent off or a goal that should of been dissalowed.
I can't remember what game it was but it was when Rooney kicked out this season and maybe should of got a red card but was shown a yellow instead.
I actually counted 22 times that Martin Tyler brought it up for the rest of the game.
Everythime Rooney touched the ball he made reference to the fact that he shouldn't of been on the field of play.
People actually wrote into Sky complaining about this and believe it or not they were not all United fans.

I can't bear listening to him now.

Hey guys haven't posted for a while have had a lot going on. I feel we are well placed to make a run in the Champions League. I agree with many that 4th may be a step too far. We should use the league to improve our team chemistry and get on a run that we can carry into the Champions League games. We are not as bad as our position reflects. For whatever reasons the team is not performing up to standards that they are capable of. Remember we were very unfortunate to go out to Madrid last year and I think we can beat anybody. We are not as $hit as people would have you believe. The best ending to this season would be Liverpool finishing 4th and we win the Champions League and take their spot. I really expect to see some changes in our play soon to at least show what Moyes is trying to achieve. We should be better we are Manchester United we never give up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Darren, I have had that scenario as a recurring dream for months now :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Chaps, having watched Barca and Bayern, sadly it's not going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

With a bit of luck/ upturn in form, we have a decent chance against any team, apart from Bayern. They're just on a different level, not even sure we play the same sport

Agree0 Disagree0

AJH, I'm not going to be getting lucky with Jessica Alba any time soon either, but if the likelihood of something happening determines what I can dream about, what's the point? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't agree AJH I think if we can gain some confidence and start playing some good football we are a threat to any team. They are not unbeatable and it doesn't have to be pretty. Even Arsenal created chances against Bayern and with better strikers they may have gotten more out of the game. Dare to dream. Jessica Alba good call Stevie.

Agree0 Disagree0

You never know in a cup competition, the best team doesn't always win, look at porto and liverpool. With a bit of look and an upturn in form, not forgetting we have looked pretty good in europe this season. But if I'm totally honest thinking about what the midfields of bayern, barcelona and dortmund would do to ours at the moment isn't a nice thought.
But while we still in it we have a chance.
Imagine winning it after the season we've had, unlikely but a great thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

Home is crucial in the Champions League knockout stages not conceading a goal at home is like scoring away

Agree0 Disagree0

Jessica Alba is someone nobody would turn down

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Barcelona play attractive football, but everyone getting "wood" over their left back? Calm down lads :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, a man can certaily dream. Even if this dream is just out of their depth.

CL qualification is almost impossible for us and winning it is just mad even to think about it.

But a man can dream.

Bayern, Barcelona and Dortmund can easily beat us any day. We can damage a little, but nothing special.

My friends we have one of the worst football of the Europe elite teams right now and if we think that we just need motivation to beat them, then we need to ask anyone else who faced Bayern this season how it feels like.

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Daniel Alaba, StevieK? He could be a dream left back for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Both Bayern and Barca games were dramatically affected by the red cards. As Paddy pointed out clean sheets at home and or away goals tend to make big difference. God knows we have had many great teams over the years and for knocked out on away goal rules.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, we couldn't eliminate Sunderland in both ends, so it speaks for itself.

One thing is being positive and other very different is to be able to beat Bayern and Barca in both hands. Both teams can beat us so easy at Old Trafford or anywhere else.

You guys are the ones who always talk about our very poor team. This season is a write off.

Lets be honest with ourselves we can't handle the high pressure that Bayern makes in 180minutes without conceding 2-4 goals.

Well opinions are opinions.

Agree0 Disagree0

RMG, cheers for putting the idea in my head. If I'm dreaming about Jessica tonight, and David Alaba walks in at an inopportune moment, I'll know who to blame.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stevie is dreaming about threesomes now

I know it's a bit irrelevant, but here are Gundogan's quoted from 2010 before moving to Dortmund. Seems we never made a move for him in the midst of the Sneijder saga ( back when he was a ballon d'or contender ) :

"I admit it is not that easy to play down seeing yourself linked to Manchester United in newspapers, but I feel I am doing OK with that, " he told Sportinformationsdienst.
"I am focused on doing well in my games for Nurnberg and do not give that much away on which club is actually looking at me.
"Playing at Nurnberg is a good thing for me to develop further as a player.
"But of course, playing for Manchester United would be a great thing to do one day."

Talk about a player having his head turned.

Now, I know he's had his injury troubles, but the lad has everything in his locker to reach great heights. Kroos always was my first choice, even before the whole January transfer stories appeared for his sheer technical ability, but Gundogan offers a different set of qualities that make him just as good.

Kroos is a more consistent passer, stronger, and has superior technical ability, but Gundogan is more tenacious, skillful and hard working. His passing is not too shabby either, in fact, he is one of the most creative passers from midfield in the world ( but kroos' passing is Scholesesque ).

If his injury doubts prove to be a one season freak accident, Gundogan is the kind of player who will drastically change our play. Hope he chooses us over Madrid and co ( I realize it's quite unlikely ), but he is smart enough to know he would get more chances here than he would at any other club, and he would be Paul Scholes' successor, therefore making him a fan favorite. That is actually one of our strongest bargaining tools, seeing just how highly Scholes is/was rated on the continent, and the chance to be his successor appeals to many.

Now some will say that moving to united is a down step, but that just might be one of the most ridiculous things ever. We are on par with the Spanish giants, Milan and Bayern ( some might say Liverpool still belong in that elite, for which I do not disagree ) and players realize that we are very likely to get back up there with good captures, and being part of our " project " would appeal to them. We have the money, the status, the sponsors and the world wide support. Moving to Manchester United makes a player a world wide star. Fact. ( unless you're Fellaini, people just don't like Fellaini )

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Feb 2014 14:11:29
I think we would all be mad to even think for one minute that Kroos will be leaving Bayern. He is an important player for them, a player who loves Bayern and probably doesn't want to leave Germany. Many players use us to get a new contract, this is probably the same sort of scenario. Moyes number one target for summer is Gundogan and if he fails there then probably Herrera or Koke.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really don't think so Fresh. It's likely Kroos will leave Bayern if they don't improve the terms of the contract on the table. He sees Goetze making 4 times as money as he does, and twice as much as his improved contract will get him.

Unless Bayern improve the terms, he might leave, considering they have Thiago, Martinez, Lahm, Schweiny and Can soon in his position, they're not going to miss him as much as we might think. Let's not forget their long standing interest in Rode.

What I'm worried about is the other teams that will be in for him, offering similar wages and guaranteed champions league football next season. Madrid and Barca might register an interest, so might Chelsea, City, Arsenal, PSG and Monaco. How much of a realistic chance will we have of getting him.

The only thing we might hope for is that Toni would realize how much he would be appreciated at Manchester United, with the fans worshiping the ground he walks on, and the sheer magnitude of " the new Paul Scholes " title he is likely going to get

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Mick - the problem with us is that we make it clear we are interested in players whilst we can still be gazumped or used by agents to get a better deal for their clients.

I know other clubs don't necessarily conduct things secretly all the time, but their money talks, but we are so blatant about our objectives that any competitor can use this to their advantage. Just like Tottenham with Willian and Liverpool with Salah (just 2 examples off the top of my head). I know players we are interested in are on other clubs radars, but we always seem to miss out for one reason or another, Hazard, Sanchez, Nasri, Moura, Vidal, etc. It even happened with Ronaldinho.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Fresh if I were a betting man, er wait I am, Kroos staying is the most likely outcome. But Pride and perceived fairness play a big part. For Kroos to stay BM will need to up their offer and the noises the club are making make that appear more unlikely daily. As Mick says Thiago and Goetze arrive on far bigger salaries and still way bigger than they are now offering him.

The CEO saying anyone can be sold and the club captain Lahm saying similar and that Kroos would regret leaving. Not to hard to see both sides backing themselves into corners. If he does leave hope we get him and with only 1 year on his contract could be at a bargain price.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bayern have also got an 18yr Danish central midfielder called Pierre hojbjerg who is very highly rated and will be around the starting 11 probably as early as next season making starting spaces even tighter for bayern soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dream summer:
Ins
Toni Kroos 50m
Seamus Coleman 20m
Eliaquim Mangala 25m
Luke Shaw 22m
Marco Reus 40m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Feb 2014 14:37:25
I am happy with all these options, however I do think that we need to also look at another striker and further central Mid options. I have a feeling that if Moyes is still there Van Persie and Kagawa will be off. also with no CL (assumed) the prices needing to be paid will go up on most of these players

Agree0 Disagree0

Coleman - £15m
Herrera - £35m
Subotic - £18m
Shaw - £25m
Reus - £30m.

Not sure we will sign any of these, but they would be good signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still believe Rafael can do a pretty decent job at right back and will improve with a steadier backline and a more consistent role ( In Valencia's presence he is a full back, in his absence he is a wing back, and he seems to be a wee bit confused as to whether he should be attacking or defending at times ), while Will Keane might make his mark on the first team in that position at first.

Varela is a very talented youngster, and Janko is nailed on to be in the first team sooner or later.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rafael has had five or six full seasons at MU and hasn't progressed much at all. Last season was his best, this season he is still as rash and clueless as ever. he is part of the reason our back four is so poor. All this doesn't matter though, it's about what Moyes thinks and he says he's too unreliable. I agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd. unless we really have got the funds to buy what we need then I would prefer another cm before looking at the right back spot.

but then I would not give rooney anywhere near what the press are saying he may get.

i would sell him and say goodbye to moyes and try to get kloop, rues & gundogan in. I think we would then see the best from kagawa and mata and this would transform our play.

herrera or another cm in the middle with gundogan, rues, kagawa and mata infront of them and rvp back to his best (and happy) upfront.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, this is his 6th season, last year was his highest number of appearances. Given your loyalty and enduring love and affection for TC, you seem very quick to write Rafael off. Last year was his best by far, this season he has been average the same as pretty much everyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Shaw is very likely.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Feb 2014 20:28:55
For me i'd say
Ezequiel Garay 14m
Luke Shaw 23m
William Carvalho 12m
Ilkay Gundogan 25m/Kagawa + 10m
Antoine Griezmann 22m
Diego Costa 32m
All of that for less than the supposed 150m we have to spend isn't all that bad of a summer in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Feb 2014 13:24:36
Do u think gundogan would be a risk with his injuries oer the past year big German club big transfer fee injury prone rings a bell can't even bring myself to say his name! Try and in love kagawa in a deal for reus and target carvalho and strootman , reus strootman carvalho mane garay and Rodriquez would be a great summer footballkeano

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Depends. If he passes a medical, there's no reason for us not to buy him

Agree0 Disagree0

Seem to remember a lad, bags of potential, capped international, passing a medical here.Whatever happened to that Hargreaves bloke anyway?

Agree0 Disagree0

I apologise for the predictive text on my post
I presume hargreaves passed a medical
i would go with carvalho and strootman everyday cjwales82

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think any United fan would turn down Gundogan knee injuries are carear ending 80 percent of the time not as in when it happens but it takes 2-3 years off a players carear back injuries are very bad or a heel 100 percent from a knowledge of physio therapie mates for instance my Father hurt his back and has never healed but my Uncle is 100 percent now

Ed002. I had asked the other week if you could give us a follow up to your great piece in December about our transfer targets, and whether interest remains/moved on etc as a result of the January window. I know you were travelling lately, but if you're free sometime soon I'm sure everyone on the page would love to see it! Cheers in advance!

{Ed002's Note - It'll be the tail end of next week before I get time.}

No worries Ed, cheers again!

Hi eds having watched Kroos last night I could dream of him playing at ot. IMO however it won't happen. If I were a betting man he'll sign a new improved contract and then say he never wanted to leave bayern. Why would he leave bayern for us. People on this site need to get real sometimes. Kroos plays weekend out for bayern the best team in the world, so why come to ot where we won't be even in Europe next season. The only way is to pay bayern mad money which honestly do we have?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe Kroos might want a new challenge? He hardly gets that in the German league at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kroos wants a new BM contract. He will get his new BM contract. Of course we have enough money to buy Kroos, the issue isn't money, it's convincing a BM fan and player to leave his country when he doesn't want to leave. He wants a new BM deal and he will get one. We must move on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Sydney, zero chance of Kroos leaving the best team in Europe and CL football to come to us at this stage, no CL and in 7th position in the league over here. Shame as he is the caliber of player we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kroos was class and it makes you realise how far behind our CM is to that of Bayerns'. Can't see him coming to Manchester United in anyway. His agent talking to DM is all about forcing the issue with Bayern to offer him a bigger new contract. We only have a chance if that goes sour but then there would be a host of other clubs sniffing around as well

Agree0 Disagree0

NM, us having no UCL and being in 7th place is irrelevant. Kroos doesn't want to leave BM. It's not a case of choosing BM over us, he's not even considering us or anyone else. He wants a bigger and more lucrative contract at his beloved BM and him and his agent are doing what it takes to get him that deal. Our current state is irrelevant.

Agree0 Disagree0

Right wages and he's here would offer him the captains armband aswell good leader aswell

GCU

Cheers for replying to my question. I asked where you caught up with the team. but I was wondering where exactly while they were in Dubai.

Reason I ask is I've seen the pics the lads took themselves of meets/ chats with fans etc and I was trying to place you. Where exactly was it and day etc! I don't have anything to do with team myself I should add at this point but a family member does hence the seeing of the pics etc.

Just trying to unmask you GCU! Seriously as you spoke at length to them I assume you will be in the pics and I was just trying to put a face to the name.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate not in the pics LOL. Solgados kid and my son are teammates and that is the closest you will come to getting us in any pictures:) and play on the same team but not in the pics. We had a few over for a private function.

We had a few of them at length back in Jan too :)

We were also very close to landing fergie on a board but he makes an absolute bucket load with MU and due to his commitment and can't take any further appointments but don't ask for details because you will not get any :)

Agree0 Disagree0

GCU. thanks again for the reply! i'm gutted! there is a guy that is in the pics just before the team left chatting with several of them and I was convinced it was you!

My family member is an uncle who works for the club and has done for 17yrs. He travels with the team but I will tell you this I get no info off him at all. he's always been very clear on that! He will tell us nothing because he says its more than his jobs worth Believe me I still try and get nothing! He gives us funny insights into stuff that happens on tours and aways and stories from training etc but absolutely no gossip whatsoever so I come here for my info and posters like GCU are good enough to share with us. So that's how I saw the pics my only perk of knowing a staff member and I was hoping I could put names to faces!

So cheers guys keep up the good work!

I posted in the closed season how I felt United would struggle to make top 6 never mind top 4. I'm not here to gloat and reveal myself as some mystic soothsayer (I also confidently predicted Mata would definitely not move to OT - so what do I know).

What I will say though it that I've now seen Moyes in action over the last 6 months and have very little confidence he has the tactical foresight, nor the leadership skills to turn the club around. Again as i've said before, not his fault, we needed a massive manager to step into a massive club and we didn't get one.

What worries me is that a fair percentage of our fan base have followed Fergie's instructions to the letter and stood behind Moyes and as a result those voices of disquiet and doom have been trampled on fairly quickly. I'd really be interested in seeing, what the majority of fans really thought. If we had a secret ballot tomorrow and could replace Moyes with anyone how many would vote yes.

I've bee a united fan for 45 years half my life i've seen little or no success and half my life I seen us a dominant force both domestically and internationally - so no need with the 'just because we're having one a bad season.'

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Scolms, Moyes appointment was an absolute disaster, I said that from day one. The longer he remains in his post, the further back we will go. He has displayed no tactical knowhow, he's also ridiculed by all the top managers, he's won nothing in 11 years of football management, he has no experience in managing truly top players (that has shown with his handling of the top stars). He has managed to divide an otherwise solid squad. All players are infighting and arguing. And on top of all that, he insists on playing Young and Valencia in most matches.
There is no hope while he's around.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Nomidfield

Actually I have known the incredible highs of the last 20 years and some in the 80's notably Barcelona and Wembley in 85 but also have had incredible lows. Relegation in 74, losing the 76 FA cup final, 79 final, losing the league to Leeds and to Blackburn, the 95 FA Cup final but whilst I wasn't around in 58 there is one other low that really rankles more than most and that was the day United confirmed Moyes as the manager. That moment is in my top 5 worst United moments, the moment I felt the club had taken a disastrous backward step

Agree0 Disagree0

But at least, like you said before, you're still looking at Moyes objectively, Red Man, and not just being prone to melodrama :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Steviek

You seem to be stalking me! Have you taken on a role with GCU to protect the manager and control opinion you don't agree with?

I give plenty of objective comment but that post is exactly how I feel after over 45 years of supporting the club. At least I care, it would be worse if I displayed apathy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Every time I see one of your posts now, when I get to the end of reading it, I subconsciously hear the intro to the Eastenders theme in my head.

Your final line always seems to leave us dangling on some dramatic cliffhanger :)
