Any chance of a January transfer update ed

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed since yesterday.}

Matas beard, if you check out the comments under my query about utd trying to buy the Argie national team Ed002 gives an update as to who we might be looking at.

1st time poster on here. Been reading posts for a while though.
What are people's opinions on possible interest in Gareth bale
And on di Maria?
I personally think bale would be a great buy but we also need an aggressive cm and cb.Like a Keane and vidic.
Do Maria although very good player I find him to selfish.

Agree1 Disagree1

Personally I don't expect it. however if it did happen Bale would be great and he has shown he can play in a front 3. Di.marea would be ideal in the Am role of midfield 3 as he did for Real however Rooney looks like he is being groomed for that.

Agree1 Disagree1

Di Maria too selfish?? No.

He's been a breath of fresh air, he's just coming back from injury and picking the pace back up. I despair sometimes on here, you'll be saying De Gea's crap after letting a goal in next.

Agree6 Disagree1

22 Dec 2014 08:51:14
Dodgy,

But he had 2 shots on Saturday that didn't go in, he is clearly in it for himself.

Agree3 Disagree4

Bale would be a great signing.
Di maria has put a bit of magic back in to the team

Agree3 Disagree0

Did lvg not say that di maria needs to pass more and not dribble as much, or something like that (i need to be careful what i say ) in the game he was subbed just before he got injured

Agree3 Disagree1

Check di Maria's assist rate for Madrid! He's definatley not selfish. Just a forward thinking player, which means he will lose possession more than car rock, blind and fellainis, but more chances will happen through it

Agree2 Disagree0

Doggy banter. All I said was that from personal point of view I thought he was a bit selfish. Even lvg Said he needed to pass more. I think he's a great footballer but does remind me of ronaldo when he 1st came to United in the fact he tries to do a little to much.
I have my opinion you have yours .
There is no need to throw your toys out the pram because you don't agree with me.
Are people on here bound by your opinion last time I looked it was a Manchester United football banter site. Which is run by the edds who do a fantastic job by the way!!
On Ddg I think he is fantastic and in the top3 keeper in the world . I championed him from the beginning

Agree2 Disagree0

Nice 1 le draig
First time poster but seems like a seasoned pro, good to see you fight your corner.

Wow people are touchy about having their opinion questioned today!

Lighten up people, its nearly Christmas!

Agree0 Disagree4

To 'finish off' the team I would say Hummels, Khedira and Bale would be fantastic additions. Coentrao too because I feel we need more than one left back, and Young does not count as a left back. This would however involve a formation change, probably to a 4-4-2 .

Agree0 Disagree3

22 Dec 2014 15:02:22
Bale would be ace and di Maria is something special a good cb and rb and where in the mix again

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS
Forget "its nearly christmas", its nearly the transfer window, that's way more exciting.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed Woodward wearing a Santa costume parades new signings Bale, Hummels, Vidal inside Old Trafford.

. and Fresh! wakes up.

Agree3 Disagree0

Haha merry holidays everyone, I suppose I should be grateful we're not debating whether or not Rooney is world class. oops ;)

Agree1 Disagree2

23 Dec 2014 09:09:44
SO my 'its nearly Christmas' got 3 disagrees, is it not nearly Christmas? Why have I bought all these presents!?

Agree0 Disagree2

Di Maria in his last appearance was quite poor and reminded me of a young CR7. Holding on to it too long, trying too many dribbles and silly shots when you had Falcao and the others in the box waiting on a decent delivery.

Agree0 Disagree4

21 Dec 2014 11:38:29
So mourinho has said that the idea of a panel reviewing diving incidents after the game and banning players would be a "disaster". Hardly suprising after what happened last week. Personaly I think it is the best way to stop diving, what's everyone else's thoughts on this?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Blatant diving should be punished, fact.

Agree5 Disagree0

To take it further, I don't see how it is that much different to something like handball which is a yellow card offence generally. It is still cheating.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Blatant diving should be a straight red for me, no excuses. What annoys me is when a player clearly dives looking for a penalty, the ref doesn't give it and then doesn't book the player for diving, it's either a penalty or the player's dived. :-@
It's up there with players obstructing other players to let the ball run out for a corner or goal-kick in the list of things I rant at the TV during games.}

21 Dec 2014 16:18:37
What really bugged me during the world cup was players getting tackled then rolling half a dozen times play acting and winning the foul, yet you'd see someone genuinely hurt in a bad tackle just go straight down, no rolling around, yet nothing given. Almost like the rolling around was encouraged.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2014 19:23:11
The main problem with charging offenses like this, through retrospective action, is proving the intent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, that for me is the most frustrating thing in football. The defender can literally be backing into you 5 yards from the ball, using his arms to block you and if you try and use your strength to get around the defender, the ref gives a free out. Disgraceful. It's a thing that happens in football that's gone too far to change. It's the same as wrestling in the box.

As for the diving debate. The rewards don't match the punishment. If I dive in the box I have a chance of getting my team a goal. If I get caught I get a yellow. Risk vs reward. If you dive in the middle of the pitch you should get a yellow. If you dive in the box, you should be sent off.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm glad it's just not me, my mates see I'm being petty but it's blatant breaking of the rules.}

21 Dec 2014 09:35:24
At the risk of sounding like Beast and there's no way anyone can do that. But lvg tactics have been strange. Yes we won six on the trot, but we owed much of that to ddg and a bit of luck.
Our midfielders were injured yesterday, so the last thing we needed was carrick playing in defence. Why not play 4 at the back and that would have allowed carrick to advance and create.
Also, we have young midfielders who are waiting to be given the chance to play, so what was the thinking behind playing fletcher?
Lvg complained we had lots of the ball but we didn't do much with it, perhaps if carrick and a younger midfielder had been playing in there then that would have opened more options in attack.
I'm sure Beast will be tearing his hair out!!

Believable9 Unbelievable0

I think the tactics at the moment is "just plod on" which seems to be working for now.
Beast needs to come back soon, at least he kept the page alive.

Agree2 Disagree0

I completely agree and still don't understand his selections or substitutions. Based on his own admission we lacked creativity so why not bring on Janusaj instead of Wilson.

We had plant upfront between RVP, Falcao and Mata. I better be careful as one here might get upset for questioning him remember he is the Messiah and will take us to the promised land and only will need another 200 million of investments.

Agree3 Disagree6

Gcu
Lvg can do no wrong

Agree4 Disagree12

21 Dec 2014 10:24:20
We are playing with 3 at the back because we have no fit full backs at the moment, and lvg feels we need the extra protection of an extra centre back to cover for Valencia and young, who I have to say have both been brilliant, but are not quite as capable defensively as Rafael and shaw. I expect us to go back to a back 4 as soon as they both get back from injury.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Dec 2014 11:29:06
I think it was quite clear that LVG realised the mistake he made at half time and changed it. He got it wrong in the first half and corrected it. He probably didn't bring januzaj on because he had already brought on di Maria to create the chances and wanted wilsons pace to get in behind, unfortunately it didn't work.

Not sure I've seen anyone say LVG can do no wrong or that he will take us to the promised land to be honest, the 6 wins in a row were hard fought whilst not playing very well and LVG admitted himself he wants it to be about more than just results, if you play better there is more chance of a guaranteed win I believe his words were.

Good to see Falcao scoring yesterday and looking delighted again, his confidence certainly improved after his goal and his movement is exceptional. Enjoyed going to villa park yesterday, our away fans fantastic as always and not moaning at a draw.

Agree9 Disagree7

GCU and jred

No one has said that of LvG however I don't get the catcalling of LvG constantiy by you both. LvG wasn't my first choice and I don't see him as the long term answer but to keep chipping away at him in the way you two do seems almost as if you can't forgive him for replacing the man you both think should gave been given more time.
For me LvG is not getting it right, yet, we are too slow in transition of the ball and it does need to improve but after last season the step forward in ethos alone is notable.
Fletcher isn't good enough and for me the player we missed yesterday was Herrera who moves the ball and adds quicker movement to our midfield. No we haven't played great but it seems it now only takes a draw to have the knives out for LvG.

Agree7 Disagree5

Redandy, I agree that our full backs are injured, but both of the replacements are OK. By playing that system and taking carrick out of midfield, it is like inviting teams to attack us! That's the last thing we need to do. Our strength is in attack, so we should be utilising that.
We packed the defence yesterday and Evans still stood off benteke and allowed him to shoot. Jones looked all over the place and his passing was terrible. So putting more defenders there is not going to improve these two as they're beyond improving.
But taking carrick out of defence and putting him in midfield would have improved that area significantly.

Agree3 Disagree0

We need an aggressive midfielder to balance out the team, someone like keane ince robson, dare I say did we miss fellani yesterday, and we should play 4 at the back

Agree1 Disagree0

Rafael is fit and we have played our centre backs as fullbacks before so that argument odes not wash. We look terrible in 352 and whilst we have possession it is deceiving as most of it is useless. The centre backs hoof it upfield the minute someone puts them under pressure which is a crying shame for a team blessed with what we have upfront.

We are one of the shortest teams upfront in the league and will never win an aerial battle and most of these guys like the ball played to their feet. To me a 3 centre back set up is a mistake as non of them are good enough passers and then even more criminal is to put carrick in there. We could have played for 500 minutes with our first half set up and would have never sniffed a goal.

Slow, lethargic and poor is what we were and whether you like it or not it is the manger who set up the team and selection and he has been around long enough now to figure that out.

You can p;ay slow and lethargic like barca when you have a guy like messi who can dribble and explode on any given minute, but we have no messi and mata, rvp, falcao are not that type of player so it all just does not make any sense to me.

For christ sake we w ere playing a villa side who should be put to the sword and we never created anything and it took young with his left foot to put a cross in to score. Enough said and for those who feel like they can defend yesterdays set up and team selection, good luck.

Agree5 Disagree3

21 Dec 2014 15:51:09
I agree that 4 at the back is much better and we play much better with carrick in midfield, can't say I agree when you say jones is beyond improving though, we forget how young he is, especially for a centre back and he will only get better with experience. Agree with Evans though, I think that game against MK Dons has destroyed his confidence completely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redman
I gave my opinion on lvg when we first signed him and was slated about it .
i haven't changed my mind one bit.
have a look at some of the post at the time about the tactical genius that is lvg .
I have gave what i feel is a fair view of him as a manger a view that isn't just based on what i have read in the paper.

But it seems anything negative requires a response from yourself or gds.
as i have said decent manager will do ok at united.

also i don't think our full backs being injured is the reason we are playing 3 at the back .
i think lvg likes the formation

Agree5 Disagree5

Jred

LvG was not what I was hoping for last summer but he has a large cv of relevant experience and significantly more than the previous incumbent.
Given the mess we were in and his late arrival I am not surprised at where we are. A young vibrant manager like Klopp or Pep may have got further quicker yet we missed the chance by not managing the transition very well and going in the wrong direction. Pep is the frustrating one as SAF met him but obviously had already decided on his successor so we missed that chance.
We are not in a position to fire LvG as our credibility would be weakened, so all the chirping won't get rid at this point. I am not defending LvG as much as defending the club. We have enough negative jibes about last season and continuing ones from opposition fans, ex players, pundits without our own giving them ammunition. Yes things need to improve and it isn't impressive but I guess age has made me more patient.

Agree2 Disagree2

LVG has probably not been able to play his prefered first 11 all season so that has got to be part of the problem.
Saying that his philosophy or lack of is quite baffling to say the least, tactically he has made mistakes and won us games but 1 thing I do know is he's a lot better than the previous manager.
Judge him at the end of the season.

Agree2 Disagree1

Redman
you weren't very patient last season.
like i said i have gave my view on lvg many times and got slated especially in the summer.
In 2002 i really wanted us to get lvg but the truth is i think he has struggled as a manager since then.
i wasnt a fan of moyes and i'm not a massive fan of lvg.
decent manager nothing else imo.
for the record i think only beast said he should be sacked and nobody agreed.
I also don't think anyone has argued managers need time more than me .

i fully understand where GCU is coming from tho when he says he has to careful what he says.
imo i think the club have made a mistake in going for lvg for all the reasons i have stated in the past and wouldn't be surprised if the ed is right and we take a different option in the summer.

Agree3 Disagree2

Why do people judge lvg against moyes.
Should we not be judging him against jose, ancelloti etc ?

Agree3 Disagree6

I thought we were supposed to be giving him three transfer windows before we passed judjment yes we are not playing brilliant but we are third can not wait until he hets all the players he wonts and then judge

Agree7 Disagree0

Jred

I wasn't patient last season because Moyes didn't have the cv or experience to manage the club of our size. It was an obvious disaster waiting to happen from the moment they confirmed his appointment and that disaster duly happened. I am no LvG fan but he does have the cv, if it doesn't work we will move on, if that is next summer so be it.

Agree2 Disagree2

Can't understand some of the negativity towards the manager. As far as I am concerned, he has done a fantastic job, given the fact that he has bee unable to field his strongest starting 11 all season - having to change the system and personnel constantly. Yet, we are 7 points off the top of the league, and we haven't really got going with regards to reaching our full potential.

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Dec 2014 18:21:25
I reply and am active on a lot of posts on this site jred, nothing to do with negativity towards LVG. You came on and typed one line about LVG doing no wrong when again I don't think anyone has ever said that, so why would people not reply to disagree with you?

Agree0 Disagree1

GDS

It is jred and GCU who seem to be steering discussion towards the negatives about LvG, it is hard to understand. A post the other day was to discuss supposed rumours the players were unhappy with LvG.

Agree1 Disagree2

Redman
Lol really lol.
what is it that i have said about your boy lvg that's so wrong .
Honest question

Agree3 Disagree4

Jred

Firstly LvG is not "my boy"

Look at the nature of your posts about LvG. For example the post I referred to from GCU about the players supposedly not being happy with LvG, you were the first reply saying "it wouldn't be the first time".

Agree0 Disagree0

Redman
And to be fair it wouldnt.
But i suppose that could be seen as a negative comment and it would seem that's frowned up on on this site

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Dec 2014 21:54:33
Jred,

Stop being so precious about your opinion, the whole point of this site is that people disagree with each other, football would be boring if everyone had the same opinion, you always make such a big deal and seem so bothered if people disagree with you.

Enjoy your christmas and see what happens Boxing Day.

Agree3 Disagree2

21 Dec 2014 22:20:22
Jred you do come across as having an agenda or some sort of axe to grind.

I'm in the Redman camp here, lvg wasn't my first choice, but he's proven at the top level, something the previous incumbent wasn't. As a stop gap to rebuild and overhaul the club he will do the job.

Of course he's fallen out with players at other clubs. All managers do. Go ask Keane, Beckham, stam and bosnich about their working relationship with fergie. Look at what the inter squad said about Benitez, or casillas about mourinho. At some point your going to fall out with colleagues or employees, you can't please everyone. Moyes fell out with people last year.

Whilst we're asking question, jred, who was your preferred choice in the summer?

Agree6 Disagree2

Will u people just relax a bit!?! Some are beginning to sound like lpool fans. Cut lvg some slack, when was the last time we won 6 in a row? Good thing it was only a draw, hate to imagine what would have happened if we'd lost the game.
Just because LvG doesn't do what you would have done, doesn't make him a bad coach or a wrong choice. He should have done this and not than that . so many ideas from everyone but he can only implement one at a time. If he erred, he will learn from it and move on.
I think the lack of midweek games has also affected us. No Cl and no C1Cup, that means less games to "experiment" with.

Agree2 Disagree2

mbd

Mre
Its difficult to say but i would of went with a more long term view, a younger manager with a modern take on football who would of built the club for a few years .
As for lvg being a better manager than moyes i don't think anyone disagrees with that but that doesn't make him a top manager.

We are 4 points and 2 goals better of than this time last season after a 150 mill spend .
We have bought well and have imo a much better squad than last year .
But so far i don't think lvg has got any where near the best out of this squad .

Lvg is a decent manager and quite funny to watch i have no issues with him .
But the hypocrisy of some on the site is shocking .
Theres always a few red tinted glasses who can see no wrong but i dint get why the same people who slated moyes from day one can find no wrong in lvg.

I was never a fan of moyes but i'm not a massive fan of lvg not since about 2000 .
And if you take a step back i honestly don't think lvg is doing a great job.

We have bought really well and have some top players, falcao and di maria have added some excitement and we have had some good individual performances but our team play hasn't really improved since day one.
And that for me is where the manager takes responsibility .
To be fair the manager has but it seems your not allowed to say that on this site.

I replied " it wouldn't be the first time " to one post and "lvg can do no wrong " to another and that was enough for the site police to get there knickers in a twist .

Agree3 Disagree5

My first choice would be simeone he looks a carbon copy of jose at porto.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Dec 2014 10:19:10
jred,

Let's get this clear, you are ALLOWED to say whatever you want on this site, that is the beauty of it, when somebody disagrees with you we are not being 'site police' we just have a different opinion which you don't seem to understand.

Why are you comparing goals and points to last year when you 100% don't understand why people compare LVG to Moyes, and you talk about hypocrisy!

Agree0 Disagree1

Gds
Its comparing teams and our progress as a team .
After a 150 mill spend have we seen a massive improvement from the start of the season ?
Or from this point last last season, when most people where up in arms over our form . You can add mata to the spend since then .
Or since we won the league 18 months ago .

But more than any thing it was in reply to mre post about lvg being a better manager than "the last incumbent " even tho the last incumbent wasnt doing much worse than lvg at the same stage of the season with imo a lesser squad
Which is why i started with "as for lvg being a better manager than moyes"

Im not sure that's hypocrisy or me given a different point of view .
But you like taking parts of my post out of context .

Out of interest what is it you disagree with in regards to that hypocritical post of mine

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Dec 2014 11:10:59
I don't really disagree with much of it, I don't really see much issue in comparing LVG to Moyes, he was the last manager after all (and the team that played Liverpool was a 'Moyes team'), you are the one who keeps saying you don't understand why people do it, then you did it in a post where you called people hypocrites.

You can use stats about not many more points or goals than last season, but as we all know stats can be quite misleading. At this stage last season it became clear that Moyes was totally out of his depth, I don't think anybody disagrees with that. LVG is not out of his depth, he has made a few mistakes as the be expected in a new league, but he will learn from them and like you say he has admitted his errors.

The target this season is top 4 and I think we will get it as do you from previous posts.

Out of interest why when Moyes made bad signings was it Moyes fault but when LVG made good signings 'we should be doing better, he's spent a fortune'. Moyes had money to spend, we all knew we needed a left back, a centre midfielder and a fast winger, and he bought Fellaini and Mata.

I actually agree with a lot of your opinions, you just seem to say it with such a negative towards LVG all the time and then seem confused when people question you.

Agree2 Disagree1

Let's get this clear, you are ALLOWED to say whatever you want on this site, that is the beauty of it,
gds
im not so sure about that any more , beast has been hounded out and i can see where he's coming from

Agree1 Disagree2

Gds
i don't think fellain was as bad a signing as many make out .
i also think that signings are a lot more down to the club than people think.
mata herrera di maria and shaw where club signings imO
i think things have changed since fergy.
for me it is up to the manager to then get these players playing well.

"The team that played against liverpool was a moyes team "
How do you think that team would of done against the liverpool of last season suarez and co ?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Dec 2014 12:13:03
Beast was not hounded out, look at the responses to his last post, everybody told him he was being silly and should stay, nobody bullied him, he said himself he was leaving because he was getting himself wound up and it was upsetting his family, nothing to do with anybody hounding him at all.

I think that team under LVG would have done better than Moyes team did against Liverpool, we have more confidence, more belief and do not look beaten before the game like we did when we played Liverpool last season.

I don't think Fellaini was a bad signing either, but he was not the signing we needed last summer. If we had signed him along with a left back and a fast winger then it wouldn't have been so bad.

I agree it is up to the manager to get the players playing well and no defeats in 7 and a belief coming back is the start of players feeling more confident and willing to express themselves. In the last 12 games we have won 9, drawn 3, lost 1, playing Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Everton, West Ham, Liverpool and the mighty Southampton, that is every team in the top 6 and two teams you would expect to be challenging. I know the performances haven't quite been what you or I would like, but the results are what matter at the moment, and we are getting them when last season we were not.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Let's get one thing very clear, nobody has, or will be, hounded out of here. We have a zero tolerance to cyber-bullying so if anyone feels they or someone else is being specifically targeted please either let us know through a post (it won't be made public) or by using the 'contact us' form that you should use for any queries about the site.
There's a huge difference between winding people up, fishing for a bite, having a heated discussion etc and bullying, remember it's a banter site.
Beast explained his reasons for taking a break and that's totaly his choice, he was never driven away and will be welcomed back when he feels ready to return.}

Gds
Of course we would of done better than moyes i would expect nothing else.
I think we would of got beat, liverpool attacking was excellent last year .
How do you think we would of done last year if our last "incumbent " had a fit rvp plus players like di maria, falcao herrera shaw blind and rojo.
Or even if the club hadn't made a hash of deals for fabergas baines etc.
The club have bought very well and got the fans excited again we have top top players but i think we have had 2 good team performances qpr and hull.
I wonder how we would be donig if we had mucked up the transfer window this summer

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Dec 2014 14:13:52
Ed,

I agree, I am looking forward to Beast coming back, his posts were usually well thought out and argued and despite disagreeing with a lot of what he said, he was clearly a good lad who cared about the club.

jred,

You can think we would have got beat to suit your argument but the fact is we will never know, and we didn't get beat, we won 3-0.

People seem to have such bad memories on here that they think all was rosy and we were playing great attacking football under Fergie before he left, but that is by no means the case. In his last season we were shocking and managed to win the title, and the season before we deservedly lost our 8 points lead, so this is a team that has not played well for 4/5 years now and was allowed to stagnate after Ronaldo and Tevez left with a lack of world class players signed, and it is taking time to change that.

LVG has said himself he wants the performances to be better and is working towards that so I just don't see much point in slagging him off until he has completed the job he is trying to do.

Agree1 Disagree2

Gds
Lol so i think suarez and co would of beat this united team at the moment due to our poor defending and there strong attack and that's to suit my argument .
Yet your assesment that the team under lvg would of done better is what?

I fully agree the side has been in decline for a while, infact underspending by the glazers in the early years really hurt us imo .
Although my sure the glazers could do no wrong .

I should of known better than to post "lvg can do no wrong " although looking at some of the post in reply i do wonder.
Also the highly offensive remark of "it wouldn't be the first time " from week or so ago seems to of equally upset a few.

22 Dec 2014 16:53:39
Nobody is upset except perhaps yourself, and as long as the banter page exists I will continue to disagree with peoples opinions if mine is different, especially with yours as it seems to wind you up so much.

I presume the 'Glazers could do no wrong' was tongue in cheek, especially as I have certainly never said that.

I have to side with Jred on this.

Liverpool with Suarez and Sturridge would have handed our ass to us like last year. Even with their current group you have to wonder how it would have turned out had they taken one of their chances and Mata's goal had been disallowed. Again blinded by the result but ignoring being served dog pooh in football terms.

So far there is nothing on the pitch that makes me believe this manager is great. I have to admit his interviews are amusing just from a point of his humongous ego.
