Is it true that tottenham's entire midfield was bought for around 40 million, if so that is crazy! IMO they have one of the best midfield's in the prem.

Evening folks. I personally don't think Fergie will sign anyone in January, well anyone that will be a first team contender anyways.

I was just wondering. Apart from the January with Vidic and Evra joining, has anyone else moved in during a January window and been a success?

Mumbles {Ed004's Note - Smalling, I think he was signed in January?}

Hi all wandered if anyone had heard anything more about nani to juve? I know its paper drizzle but to be fair if there thinking on 30mill i would be happy to let him go! Maybe offer that plus berbs for bale? Something like 15mill plus diouf n gibson for rodwell? Maybe cahill for free in the summer? Hopefully a replacement for evra. As his defending is awful and we could still command a fee! Hopefully players leaving
Kuzshak
Gibson
Berbs
Carrick
Anderson if moneys right
Nani same and replacement signed
Evans cos hes useless
Rio if cahill comes in
Owen
Diouf
Maybe in
Alba
Rodwell
Barkley

Im not reading anything pal, I was having a chat with Liam Brady last week after the Ireland match and he said the Arsenal interest is 100% real, Id hate to see Pogba leave myself because hes gonna be a class act, I honestly hope he signs a new contract but we'll just have to wait and see what happens, db
--------------------------------
How could you have spoken to Liam Brady when he was on RTE television for over an hour after the Ireland games, I would say your little rumour is a load of hot sh*t. You should think about what you write before you post it. Liam Brady wouldn't know anything anyway! He's no longer part of Arsenal!

Will somebody please tell me why we didnt get Scotty Parker? Has been absolutely immense for tottenham so far this season, and england. Everybody says we dont need a stop gap? We obviously do if Fergie isnt gonna trust Pogba/Morrison. Our midfielders of current are performing well under par and seriously need looking at replacing. Yes he is 30? maybe even 31 now but not one of you could argue he couldnt do a better job than Carrick, Anderson and Fletcher.

shappy agree with the plan. Not pure which leftback i'd take. But leaning towards a more defensive option the goals with conceded. Definitely on rodwell and hulk and the outgoings. Got my vote

What do you think to this? These changes are quite radical, but for me its the way to go for the next 10 years. The rebuilding has to start from the back for me. I think there are weaknesses all over the back line, but the LB spot is the one that for me needs immediate change. Evra has been on the slip since the 2009 champions league final. He defiantly has not been his best - Alba is my number one target, quick, quite strong on the ball and has a lot of bite, he also gives us left midfield cover. For the fee that we sign him for (no more than 10 million) we would get it back in the sale of Evra. Fabio will also give really good cover and competition as would Fryers.

At CB, we have a good crop, maybe one addition in summer - that would be Cahill for free but i don't think thats needed. We should get a DM that can cover CB. All you Evans haters, where would we get a better 5th choice center back from - support him!

Centrally is where the biggest changes are needed, i feel that we would be better if we had a 3 in midfield with players that can adapt to other formations. Real Madrid's interest in Gotze could mean that Ozil becomes available - if he is then i can only see us as being his destination. He's better than Silva and would quieten those noisey neighbours. For a bit of steel in there my first choice is actually Rodwell - most of you hate him but SAF clearly see's something in him which we have to trust in! He played well against Chelsea, City and ourselves so he is worht a go. That would leave a midfield 3 of Rodwell (holding), Ozil (attacking midfielder), Cleverly (pulling the strings). If you look at Ozil's stats you can see that he made 25 assists last season alone, imagine that with Rooney and Hernandez in front of him. Formidable.

If Rodwell comes in, then Carrick has to go. Gibson in my mind is gone already. Anderson and Fletcher will stay, Park can also play there too. Id keep Park here due to the Far East revenue, football is a business and he is so useful in that way - and he works so hard for us. I hope Giggs retires because i think SAF will rely on him whilst he's here and its not productive.

The forward 3 i'd like to see Rooney, Hernandez, Nani/Young in place. That would give flexibility and there is so much different talent up there. Playing this system there would be no need for Owen, Berbatov, Diouf and maybe even Macheda. Macheda might stay though, we wouldnt want another Rossi on our hands!

The squad looks like this with these moves:

De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Alba, Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Vidic, Fryers, Valencia, Park, Nani, Young, Cleverly, Anderson, Ozil, Rodwell, Fletcher, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Macheda. Pretty good?

Thoughts guys?

I've been thinking and i think we should come at our problems from another way to what most people think.

First off i see someone said earlier that Left back wasn't a proirity, but i think that it is. We lost VDS in the summer who was one of the best at organising a defence around, then we have Ferdinand on the downward slide and Evra who seems to having given up defending altogether. The whole team have changed the way they play to make up for our poor defence, if we want to get back to our attacking best then we need a solid platform to build from. Now Goalkeeper is sorted, DDG is young wnd will gain experiance with time, Rio is another easy one to sort....we have Jones and Smalling ready to step in. Which just leaves LB, Depending on how much we have to spend and what you feel we need i think there are 3 options:

Alba-The expensive and more attacking option.
Pieters-The more defensive option and cheapest.
Izaguirre-The middle ground in price and Att/Def.

So one of them should be bought to complete our defence.

Now i feel the biggest problem we have is were too predictable and have no plan B, all our attacks come form out wide or through Rooney. I feel the way to solve this is to bring in a new player who has that spark, the ability to score and create goals, a player who brings with him a change in formation a tactics to give us options and allows us to play in a differant way to what people expect. I'd sign Hulk.

I know what your thinking, we don't need another striker we need a midfielder. But hear me out. If we signed Rodwell as well then i feel we'd have all the ingrediants needed to really make a great side.

imagine a line up like this:

__________DDG_________
Rafa_Smalling_Vidic_New LB
_________Rodwell________
___Cleverley____Anderson_
_Welbeck___________Hulk_
_________Rooney________

This would be plan A, it's attacking, creative, solid and would be exciting to watch. If you need a goal bring on Hernandez for Welbeck and move Rooney to the right, if you need to shut up shop take off anderson and bring on Carrick/Fletcher

Plan B would be:

__________DDG_________
Rafa_Smalling_Vidic_New LB
____Cleverley_Rodwell____
Nani_____Rooney____Young
_______Hernandez________

This is a more solid traditional line up with lots of width and a solid centre. You'd still have players like Valencia Hulk Welbeck Anderson on the bench to bring on to spice things up or Park Carrick or Fletcher to wind things down.

This way allows Players like Pogba and Ravel get into the first team while still having a great team in the mean while to keep us competing for the top prizes. I'd get rid of Berbatov, Owen, Macheda, Diouf, Gibson, Giggs(Retire), Evra and one of Fletcher or Carrick. I'd let Evans go only if we could get Cahill on a free otherwise i'd keep him. And I'd give Anderson one more season in a three man midfield where he can play to his strengths to see how he does, if he still can't do it then i'd move him on and bring in a more attack minded midfielder in his place.

Let me know what you think?

Let me say before i start i am not a huge fan of the Glazers!

I've been reading todays posts and see somebody commenting on how the glazers have stolen £500 million from United. How do steal what is already yours.

I don't know the exact figures, but if we wern't paying interest payments surely the glazers(or anybody else that owned United)would be taking dividends every year so how much extra cash would we have to spend. When we was a PLC we paid dividends.Anyone who baught the club (apart from a rich arab who had more money than sense)would want a decent return on their money so again how much better off would we be than we are now.

To be fair to the Glazers they appear to let Fergie do as he wants unlike a certain rich Russian we know. All of you Glazer haters go on as though they havn't spent any money on the squad(50 million last summer is hardly small change)or the infrastructure. They do appear to be bringing in more revenue than ever before.

If any of you haters were in the position to buy United(albeit borrowed money)without putting any money in yourself and letting the club pay the payments you would jump at the chance.

Is it the Glazers fault we havn't baught a world class midfielder or is it Fergies or is that the players we want don't want to come?

We may be riding our luck a bit and playing crap but we are still only 5 points behind City and in all the cups so it isn't panic stations yet.

so lads provisional squad for tomorrow nites game:_

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Fryers, Nani, Valencia, Gibson, Carrick, Fletcher, Morrison, Park, Giggs, Young, Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, Macheda, Diouf.'

For a start who in the good name of hell if Gibson in the squad.....

Good to see Fryers and Morrison in the squad but wheres pogba? (is he injured?

Perhaps it could be Fergie knows something.....or is playing a game with him......

Its an absolute insult i feel to young pogba that the likes of fryers and morrison make it to the squad and he's left out for the likes of that onion gibson.....completely baffles me it really does......

whats everyone elses opinions, gibson is only back from injury and should have had a run in the reserves for a few matches until making a proper 'comeback' (if thats even possible haha) poor auld pogba has been playing out of his skin in the reserves all season...

if i was him i'd certainly be weighing up my options!!

on the other hand would be great to see morrison playing tomorrow night :-)

I see Rodwell's future lies as a CB. Right now he is in a training phase and gaining experience at various positions which is very important for a young lad. Same with Phil Jones. Can see the two forming a formidable partnership at the defense for the future England team and hopefully for United as well.

Ravel Morrison drops a massive hint on twitter that he will be making an appearance in tomorrows CL game

"TOmorrow Could be a Very good Day :D"

Will be great to have another look at him. Don't see the fuss about Pogba, Morrison is a much more exciting prospect IMHO

I'm bracing myself for the disagrees here, but realistically the only signing I can see in January is Rodwell for around the £15-20mil mark. And I personally would be reasonably happy with that if it was as a stop gap til the summer when I believe we would need another quality CM. Rodwell in for £15mil and Evans (£6mil), Kuszack (£2mil) and Gibson (£4mil) out and you've surely got to say that's good business?
Possibley a couple of youngsters too in Jan if available, the likes of Briggs perhaps. Other than that I'm not sure If anyone will be brought in of much significance. And I don't believe that will be because Fergie thinks the Midfield is good enough, it's just difficult to deal in January. People seem to think we can nab all these quality players in Jan 'under the radar' and 'on the cheap'. It just doesn't work like that.

I feel like we are playing like last season without any flair or creativity but still winning games.

initialy the season started off so well and then Cleverly got injured and the midfield flair has seemed to have disappeared with Nani and Young being abit inconsistant.

In January i feel that it will be unlikely that SAF will buy the players being floated around on here etc. He doesn't usually sign big players in jan.

I think Rodwell is still some way off from being ready to play in a UTD shirt but saying that we already have a few players that shouldn't be wearing UTD shirts as they fail to deliver.

Hopefully Fabio will play instead of Evra. Im fed up of seing A.Young trking back to play LB because Evra is too lazy. Few games on bench or even being dropped from squad may force him to buck his ideas up.

I can see Flecther and Carrick in midfield against Benfica seing as Giggs played on saturday. Anderson isn't playing well enough whereas as Fletcher and Carrick will get a job done in terms of breaking up play but they won't particularly create chances so Nani and Young and or Valencia will need to create alot on the wings.

After watching Chelsea this season and at times last, does anyone else think that despite the initial outrage, we got by far the best deal for Mikel in the end? its almost like a free 12 million pounds...

Ed's, Syd, see alot of people calling for Alba and Martinez who in an ideal world would be fantastic signings but realistically these are going to be difficult to snap up so I think we should look at Erik Pieters who is 23 as an alternative for LB and maybe De Marcos from Bilbao at CM who is 22? Also, Muniain is highly rated, any chance of him?

Interesting training squad ahead of CL.
No Rooney.
No Ando.
Morrison, Fryers and Petrucci.

10:46 So here's the training squad, with some notable absentees: De Gea, Lindegaard, Evra, Jones, Ferdinand, Fabio, Rafael, Vidic (suspended, of course), Fryers; Gibson, Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Fletcher, Nani, Park, Young, Morrison, Petrucci; Berbatov, Diouf, Hernandez, Macheda. Chris Smalling, Reece Brown and Danny Welbeck were training separately from the main group, presumably because they've been recently injured. (GT)

Ive been thinkin a lot lately of who, if anybody will be brought in to replace Evra. I think that Fabio/Rafael will be competing for the spot with Zeki Fryers being promoted to the first team as cover, when Evra leaves. However i think it likely we would bring somebody else in. Barring Alba - as i know near enough everybody would want him. If we couldnt get him, who would you choose?

I would go for maybe Cissokho or Izaguirre.

David beckham won the mls cup, i wonder if hes got any energy in those legs, for half a season. Fergy was complementing him on how well he has done over in america. Could become useful at the back end of the season, more numbers in the squad. give us that killer pass and help us out with the set piece situation, stop those annoying corners that hit the first man.
get a defensive midfielder to back him up, or let hi sit in front of the bak four and bring in a box-to-box cm.

Tevez wasn't anything special until he joined City, of course he was a good player, but he was just another United player to us who was mainly sat on the bench.

tevez was a very good player at united and you are right he was just another player to us who mainly sat on the bench and i think this highlights how the quality of our squad has declined , if we had him now i think he would be a big player for us.
