Huddersfield were unlucky. Hit the post, goal disallowed which came off lallana and could easily have had a penalty.
I would say it was due to Huddersfield not having enough in the final third and not getting any luck or decisions as to why Liverpool won.

The last 2-3 games I've watched on TV the cameras always linger on Patrice Evra sitting chatting with Ed Woodward next to him. Never noticed those 2 being so friendly up until recently- any theories why they are so matey now?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 Oct 2018 16:50:49
Woodward always had feelings for Pat but felt he could never reveal them whilst Pat was a player. Now he has left Woody is free to declare his love and I for one am hopeful they will be happy together and live happily ever after.

koulibaly is he a leader in defence. I've seen little of him but a few rumours about him today. I think all the defenders are good but all need a leader beside them (vidic, Bruce, rio type)

You’ve seen little of him but he is a leader. Hmm 🤔.

I though he asked is he a leader? Maybe the lack of a question mark threw you ajh😂😂.

Felt like a lose yesterday, at least it looks like they were trying, if it means they're playing for the manager i don't know, big Rom scores a fair amount of goals, just think how many he would score if he was a good finisher.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

21 Oct 2018 14:33:58
He has always been a striker who needs three chances to score one. That being said he should be playing in a team where he has at least 5-6 chances a a game, every game. He is the main striker for Manchester United. At no point during Sir Alex's time as manager would he consistently be expected to feed off of scraps as he is now.

The problem with strikers is they are confidence players, so when he misses a chance what he needs more than anything is another chance soon after so he can't dwell on the missed chance for too long eroding his confidence as he over thinks his actions. Unfortunately with us at the moment he might not get another chance for 40 minutes, which is far too long and cranks up the pressure too much.

Look at his form for his country. Where he has players like Hazard and Dr Bruyne constantly giving him another chance.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Oct 2018 16:53:34
He really isn’t top class but neither was Andy Cole. However, I always felt Cole was like an over excited puppy, whereas I see Rom as an overworked Blackpool donkey. Having said that Shappy makes a good point, his international goal scoring record is pretty good so perhaps we need to work on our approach and try and understand how we give him the 6 chances he needs to score.

Hypothetically speaking, who would you guys like to see replace Lukaku? (If he left) Personal choice is Icardi, realistic, available and actually a quality striker. Kane would be ideal though it's nigh on impossible to get him.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 Oct 2018 11:49:44
scholes you moan about pogba and the off field issues he brings and yet want icardi to be bought?

Agree2 Disagree2

21 Oct 2018 11:54:17
Martial, rashford or sanchez could easily replace lukaku and make him feel as if he has some competition for his spot in the team.

But if we are looking for a Mourinho type profile of striker then someone like giroud or mandzukic would be ideal for his style of play. Strong, hold the ball up well and bring others into play. But the goalscoring burden would have to be on someone else as they are unlikely to get more than 10-12 in a league season.

Agree0 Disagree3

21 Oct 2018 11:55:06
I've gone off Kane. He was never quick to start with, but he seems to have gone all Rooney post 2012 on us.

Icardi, Insigne could be good shouts. Although for Icardi we would need to create more chances than we do currently. I personally think we will go for Dybala, can see something happening with Pogba.

Actually never thought of that CSM, good point.

21 Oct 2018 12:17:41
Also, i haven't actually 'moaned' about Pogba's off field issues (whatever they are) but more of what he does on the pitch, i. e. throwing his arms in the air when he loses the ball, dispossession, general lack of discipline.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Oct 2018 12:46:16
Unpopular opinion but I'd take a stab at Balotelli. There are tons of reasons not to sign him but his hold up play is something I imagine Mou would be very impressed with.

Although if i had to 'be more serious' Lewandowski or Higuain would be my choices.

Fair enough scholes, may be moaned is a harsh word how about been unhappy about. Also it wasn't a knock on you, i have at times not been happy with pogba's off field antics.

I'd give martial a run upfront before I spent anything on a new striker, tracking back duznt look like his favourite part of the game and the spearhead may suit him, he seems pretty calm and collected when he has chances Infront of goal and sending a message to lukaku that he operates under the same rules as everyone else and will be under pressure to perform to keep his place isn't the worst idea . I'd use available funds on CBS and a right sided attacker before a striker .

Mandzukic is a great shout DSG. He’s a very underrated player and is such a big game player. Very integral for Juve and allegri is a massive fan of his.

I’d like us to steer clear of the ‘target’ man forward. I’ve never personally been a fan. Always preferred a dynamic and agile striker such as aguero, Rooney, mbappe as opposed to a Giroud esque player. It also means that we won’t resort to hoofing it up there.

Dybala would be my pick. However, allegri doesn’t seem him as an out and out striker and he is often played as cf/ second striker. I like Icardi a lot as well. Deadly in the box but doesn’t offer that much in terms of build up play.

Tbh I think we should give martial a chance. He’s our best finisher and deserves an opportunity centrally.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Oct 2018 14:36:02
I don't want him replaced, but if he was to leave I'd try and engineer a deal with PSG with Pogba going to them and us getting Mbappe. Could you imagine an interchanging front three of Mbappe, Rashford and Martial?

I would like to try Sanchez up front with rashford and martial either side, Mata in behind.

Lukaku is in a dry patch. But I would certainly not give up on him. He is better than current form when his confidence is rolling.

What are people's thoughts on Asensio?
Looks Like Madrid will sell, would be a great for unlocking defences!

Young and eager to play too.

Very good player, would take him if Sanchez gets a role on the right, Rashford and Martial upfront and then he can nail down a role on the left.

Not for me, one of these hype players that flatter to deceive. Watched him many times and rarely see him have a good game. Rather go back for Bale and would probably cost the same.

21 Oct 2018 12:06:30
Asensio is special and could be good for us and as an alternative wehould target Pulisic or Dembele. Any of these 3 will be class for us.

21 Oct 2018 16:25:28
Beast, Bale is 7 or 8 year older and probably at the same level.
So as far as an investment, Asensio must be a better option.

I assume we will look at defence anyways.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Oct 2018 20:01:25
Yes Ruud, I factored that in mate. I think Bale is far better than Asensio, just age would mean similar price. Rather have Bale as Asensio would be a huge disappointment in the Prem I think. Rather Liverpool spend the £70m+ it would take.

Time to give martial the run at number 9 he should of had a long time ago. Lukaku was a poor buy, he's not a good footballer, just scores goals in games against the lesser sides. Often hinders the attack with his poor touch and movement. I'd like to see Martial number 9, Rashford and Sanchez either side and Mata number 10 where he was so affective for Chelsea before we signed him.

Believable11 Unbelievable2

21 Oct 2018 10:40:51
I have said time and time again Lukaku doesn't do much in big games but he still has a spot in the team to bully the other 15 teams in the league and that is 30 games. If he can score 20 goals from the 30 games then he wouldve done his job.

We just need Martial to step up or buy a all around striker for us to win trophies.

Did that supposed blue tinge that several members of the board allegedly still see around Mourinho, fade completely yesterday?

The ungrateful Chelsea fans chanted at him and their assistant goaded him. Personally his reaction to the goading and crowd said to me there should no longer be any hint of blue tinge.

The tactics and team selection were spot on yesterday, we deserved the win. My only disappointments were Lukaku who didn't seem to move (or move at all) from his comfortable spot in the middle until about 20 mins to go and the concentration of Pogba. Lukaku doesn't seem to add danger or movement in behind, seems to be bulky, doesn't work the centre backs, his control and working the ball is inadequate. He will have to improve and I hope our manager is as tough with Lukaku as he was with Shaw and Martial. However, before spending mega millions on a striker, keep an eye on Mason Greenwood, too young yet but he, like Chong, may have something.

We looked like we have turned a corner, looked like a team and that bodes well for coming matches and hopefully the season as long as the board back the manager.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

21 Oct 2018 10:07:43
If the board backed the manager, shaw and martial probably would not be at the club.

Also on chong and greenwood, is mourinho the best manager to develop them.

Im just going on evidence, cast your minds back a couple of months to pre season when mourinho spent most press conferences bemoaning the fact he had to take the kids on tour with him.

Red Man/ DSG - I think you both make good points.

I don't think anyone has ever questioned Martial's talent. He is undoubtedly a brilliant and clinical finisher. The problem has been consistency and perhaps a questionable attitude at times. This is not unusual with young players but we're relying on him to produce the goods now and that's been the problem. Whenever he's been left out of the team it's always felt like he's being punished rather than protected and nurtured.

We've seen some extraordinary players mature and develop at our Club over the years from the Busby Babes to the Class of 92 to Rooney and Ronaldo and many more along the way. We all recognise and understand talent when we see it. SAF always demonstrated great faith in young players but his success at the Club bought him time and patience.

The point about Mourinho is pertinent. I think if he wants to be successful at Utd then he will have to be patient and play the long game. He came to Utd with a glistening CV, the self proclaimed Special One capable of recapturing past glories and chasing the noisy neighbours out of Town.

The problem was Utd weren't ready. We'd fallen behind. We had an unbalanced squad of average players littered with some very promising youngsters. This was never a quick fix. The younger players needed nurturing and patience. Recruitment needed to be intelligent and sensible. The re build slow and steady, piece by piece, brick by brick. Mourinho probably still hurting from his Chelsea catastrophe and fuelled by his own ego failed to recognise that success couldn't be achieved over night and he grew angry and frustrated.

The key to our future success rests at the feet of the likes of Shaw, Martial, Rashford, Bailly even Pogba (if he sticks around) . Recruitment should have been based around helping, nurturing and getting the best out of them not replacing them. Rojo, Darmian, Fellaini, Maybe even Smalling and Jones were the players that needed replacing.

By chasing success we have ignored the very principle's that got us there in the first place. Patience, trusting in youth and a commitment to attacking football.

Maybe the penny has finally dropped. The last couple of games have seen a return to the old Utd. Thrilling come backs, filled with drama and entertainment. I'm not sure we've ever really played beautiful football but it's always been thrilling and unpredictable and perhaps that's always been our biggest draw.

If a line in the sand can be drawn, if a deeper understanding of our style and tradition can be gauged, if the politics of the Club can be overcome, if patience and restraint can triumph over ego and self importance then I see no reason why this marriage of convenience can't enjoy some happy years together. Maybe the bigger issue is has the damage already been done? Time will tell I suppose.
