As all of the newspaper transfer nonsense is getting on the majority s nerves thought I would ask something a little different.

From the last 25 years if you could sign 3 players from our biggest rivals Liverpool,City,Arsenal and Chelsea who would you have ??

22 Jun 2015 20:29:59
Great question Dean, is that 3 in total or 3 from each? The other issue is the timing. For example, Gerard in his prime was awesome but we had Keane and Scholes so didn't need him. So. in no particular order.

Arsenal, no brainier really. Henry and Bergkamp obviously and then probably Vieira.

Liverpool is a struggle as they have had a lot of dross in the last 25 years. Robbie Fowler was incredible in his prime, John Brnes was a United player but beyond that?

Chelsea is interesting. I'd Take Hazard today, I loved Drogba in his prime, and Zola would have lit up OT.

As for City, again a lot of dross until recently. I love Aguero, Kompany has been immense in recent years and dare I say it, Toure.

Has to be Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Frank Lampard for me. I've not been around for all of the last 25 years so I may have skipped over some top players but they are the ones that stand out in my time

Oooooh

I'm going to base mine on who could help us most now, just to try and narrow it down.
1. Henry, still one of the best players I've ever seen in the flesh.
2. Makelele, just the type of custodian style midfielder we need right now.
3. This is the hardest one, it's a toss up between Gerard, vieira and john terry.
I think I'll go for JT. No complex reasoning, just because he'd sort our defence.

Chelsea - Hazard, Essien (in his prime), Zola
Liverpool - Gerrard, Hyypia, Xabi Alonso
City - Yaya Toure, Aguero, Silva

Hard to leave out a few such as Kompany, Zabaleta, Vieira, Campbell, Drogba, Robben and plenty more. When you sit and think about it there have been so many wonderful players that we've been lucky enough to have play in the EPL.

The Ramos link seems to be gathering pace i for one hope it doesn't get past the red tops crackpot reporters .He would cost a small fortune and would spend more time suspended than play .Javi Martinez for me is the better option and the better passer

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed004's Note - I still think this will end with Ramos getting an improved contract but it would be a fantastic signing IMO. Hoping all these report of Ramos and Schweinsteiger are true.}

22 Jun 2015 18:33:10
I guess I'm in the minority who thinks ramos is a terrible idea. He's so rash and is a potential red card waiting to happen in every tackle.
Then he bombs forward and forgets that he's actually a defender. He play acts. Like gerard pique, everytime he's exposed, he suffers. An obvious upgrade for our squad BUT far better options out there.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 19:50:29
I'd love ramos and schweinsteiger 2 players who have a bit of aggression about them something we've been lacking for a while.

Also their experience would be vital obviously this is only my opinion but I'm praying we get both of these.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 19:59:28
Most of these journalists throw darts at a team sheet and that's who we're interested in. There's no way a 28 year old Sergio Ramos is leaving Madrid to come to Manchester and ply his trade in a more difficult league. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole anyways. The club is very good at keeping our targets close to their chests. I can't see much information getting out until the day or two before a signing is revealed. Still 10 days before they report back for training I think.

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 20:34:23
Most sensible thing I've heard in the last 48 hours mumbles

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 02:58:05
We won't buy him but don't doubt Ramos' ability. One of the best centre backs if not the best from the last 5 years, he's a leader, excellent on the ball, scores a ton of headers and most importantly is an excellent defender. Everyone is so quick to call out foreign centre backs as being liabilities at the back for reasons that are beyond me.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Jun 2015 09:51:34
Ramos is probably top 3 CB in the world and i would be delegated to see him come in. Find it funny people questioning his ability can do everything.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 18:10:52
Hi guys first time poster big man utd fan from Glasgow really looking forward to the new season but think it is an absolute must that we two midfielders one won't cut it we need schneiderlin as far as dm go there ain't much better out there and if we leave much longer were going to miss out and if we could buy him and get arturo vidal this lad is an absolute monster of a player under no circumstances should we let arsenal get him if we got schneiderlin and vidal we would be a force to be reckoned with again and that's without us signing any other players

Believable4 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 18:53:45
Think most will agree with you, someone like schweinsteiger to compete with carrick in the 6 role then gundogan/schneiderlin/Vidal/nainggolan in the number 8 role because the only decent player we have in that position is Herrera. I know di maria played there for Madrid but for me he needs to be attacking out wide, and Fellaini is more of a plan B when we are being heavily pressed.
Agree on Vidal, if he adapts and stays injury free he would probably be the best in the league but those are big ifs and he'll come at a big price tag.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 22:30:55
I just think in the '6' role we should be signing someone who is going to make a mark for years to come, Schneiderlin would be ideal for me as he's prem proven, young enough and good enough. The advanced MF role would be Firmino for me as LVG likes staggered lines thru his formation Firmino would be a bit more advanced than Herrera linking with depay and Rooney.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 02:59:50
Vidal would 100% adapt. His game suits the league perfectly.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 08:40:29
Totally agree ra94 schneiderlin for number 6 role he knows what prem is all about we can't rely for players to adapt to the prem like last year cost us too many points but on vidal I don't think he would have any problems adapting we need power and energy in the midfield so that we can go back to what we're good at counter attacking teams with the pace of di Maria and depay and pacey striker ( lacazette or Wilson ) I think we'll have a great chance of claiming back our title

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 09:49:48
I think we need an adaptable box to box midfielder who can also play deeper if needed and add some physicality in midfield. One of Schneiderlin or Vidal would be best placed for this.

Then I think we need a true DM, someone who'll just protect that space in front of the defence and allow the rest of the team to push forward knowing that they have someone covering them, rather than a deep lying playmaker. This kind of player will be vital in Europe.
Someone like Gianelli Imbula or William Carvalho.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 18:08:03
Ok so Monaco are linked with William Carvalho and the rumoured price is 15mp and when United are linked to him the price just doubles.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 17:48:46
Lots of folk freaking out about us not making all of our signings already and that we are lagging behind because other clubs are already doing some business.

Correct me if I am wrong but haven't we concluded the biggest deal so far out of everyone and smashing the most cash on the table by bringing in Depay?

Sorry that we missed out on Ing's, Milner and Joe Gomez. I am sure we will no longer challenge for the title now.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

22 Jun 2015 18:10:59
Apparently lvg is back from his holiday today or tomorrow so hopefully we've got something in the pipeline as it's nice to get deals done early, but no one else has signed anyone worth mentioning yet so I don't get why people are panicking.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 18:22:27
Good post mate!

It isn't even July yet, we have a potential world beater signed up already and could have two or three deals very close in Schweinsteiger, Otamendi and Firmino.

There is nothing to worry about.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 16:06:30
Do we need a new striker? Will we actually get one in?
My thoughts on the first are no, if we stick to 433 I think we are covered with Rooney, Wilson, RVP (think with a good pre-season we could see more of the RVP we remember). Should we move to a 4231 or some other variation then I would go for another striker as I would be more inclined to buy one to accomodate Rooney behind main striker.
On the second point I think we will buy one. I can't get LVG's comments about needing a 20 goal a season striker out of my mind.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 16:21:41
I agree on both points. Rooney as CF and Wilson to get more minutes this season. Hard to tell what will happen with RVP and Chicharito at the moment. If we got in a very good #9 such as Kane or Benzema, then I think that might signal a formation change, with Rooney behind the CF. Then Herrera would play alongside Carrick. But then again LVG may stick to his "philosophy" and play a MF 3 of Carrick, Herrera, and Rooney with Carrick sitting deeper.

The more I learn about Kane, the more impressed I am with his intelligent movement, both in build up play as well as in the box. Don't see Tottenham selling him easily though. Any hopes for Benzema would seem to revolve around big changes at Real, such as CR7 becoming more of an out and out striker, and Bale moving back to the left wing, which has been rumored. Could Benzema be expendable? We shall see.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 16:35:48
Do we need one - yes, will we get one - hopefully. Neither RVP or Rooney are 20 league goal players, RVP is in decline and Rooney has only ever managed it twice in his entire career.

The trouble is Rooney is our most marketable player and is on massive money, too much to be sat on the bench. A 20 goal a season striker would want guarantees about playing time, are they going to get that with Rooney in the squad?

Personally I'd sell RVP and cash in on Rooney whist he still has a large price tag. I would bring in Lacazette and Mitrovic.

Agree3 Disagree3

22 Jun 2015 16:52:07
We need a new striker
We should NOT buy a new striker, because a good striker won't sit on the bench and rooney will be back in the midfield

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 17:31:09
With the formation we are playing, for the good of the team, no we do not want to buy a striker. A new striker would mean Rooney plays midfield which is just miserable to watch - Rooney also will not be dropped and a new striker will not sit on the bench.

I WANT a new striker, but it just wouldn't work as long as Rooney is around. I think we are best to put in front of Real Madrid for Ronaldo or Bale - a goal scoring winger would be a much better fit.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 17:52:31
Agreed Fresh, very valid point. But Van Gaal has been known to drop big names for the greater good of the team. I don't think he will just facilitate Rooney even if we a buy striker. Rooney will have to go ahead and prove he is better than him.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 18:07:42
Fresh! We have signed Depay for the left wing I would assume. Who would you like for the right?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 18:23:28
He has said that Rooney is captain and is undroppable. I don't know for a fact, but I doubt he ever said the same about the other big names that he has dropped.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 19:46:25
I don't know if he has ever said that about another fresh but he has always been consistent when it comes to making tough selection choices, right now we don't have a better centre forward than Rooney but if he were to buy another one and he was to be playing better than Rooney then I think he would select him ahead of Rooney, just going on how Van Gaal has been in the past

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 21:17:49
Apart from Bale/Ronaldo I'd have a look at Di Maria, he's quite good ;)

I'd love Lucas Moura or Reus.

first time poster here, for those who watch our u21's. Could someone give an analysis on Andreas Pereira, what is his best position, what kind of player is he and where dyou think he would fit into our current starting 11 should he be given a place? thanks in advance

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site, Chris.}

22 Jun 2015 15:24:41
Hi Chris, Pereira can play on either wing but strong in the Attacking Midfield role. I would imagine this season, if he is given an opportunity, he will be used out wide. He seems very comfortable on the ball and keeps possession well so I would think he is the type of player LVG likes.

22 Jun 2015 18:45:04
Have a good night Chris . Welcome chrismufc he is a very technically gifted player he is bulking up a little which was badly needed to play in England. I would expect him to make a dozen appearances this season primarily from the bench, he has the talent he needs to impress everyday to get his chance I believe he is going to have a better career than adnan.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 21:06:49
In Wilson, Perreira and Januzaj, we have three youngsters of the highest order. Just need the right development.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 14:57:55
Its quite clear that we're in for firmino. Now, is it because we were looking for such a player or is it because he became available(for a low-ish price)? So if we miss out on him, should we pursue another such player or should we go on with mata and promote pereira. I would go ahead with mata and pereira and buy two midfielders.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 15:09:27
He is probably a target that is available. It wouldn't shock me to see Mata move on, but only if we sign another winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 15:11:38
I would personally stick with Mata and promote Pereira. We should then look at 2 established CM's to come in, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin. Although if rumours are to believed with regards to Liverpool and Illarramendi, then we should look at bringing him in.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 16:41:11
Fresh! I agree, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mata go (Valencia?) and Roberto Firmino take his place in the squad. I think Firmino will take the Fellaini position so like you say we would need another winger (right wing).

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 17:32:19
Yes, Firmino will almost certainly play centrally if he comes in - taking the Fellaini role. He will be a massive upgrade as he has so much talent.

Mata may well be used as part of any deal for Otamendi, but I'd love to see Juan stay if I am honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 17:51:23
its a shame that Mata hasn't quite hit the heights, he doesn't have the players around him to be as effective as he needs defensive cover. Hopefully ADM gets his move too

Agree0 Disagree3

22 Jun 2015 14:05:28
Because it's about Ronaldo I thought I'd post it first.

Apparently we are moving for him, £66 million. He is unhappy at the departure of Ancelotti, unhappy with Benitez, unhappy at the lack of support he has from the club and also unhappy about being played as a central striker.

Won't happen - but everyone thinks I am the Ronaldo fan on here so thought I'd share the story with y'all :)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 14:53:02
is this the 8th attempt we have tried to sign him bk

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say 8th is quite a low estimate.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 13:58:06
Not posted for a long while but seeing reports on Ramos from Madrid being on United's radar.
I would normally assume this type of speculation is purely brought on to get better contracts for the player at their current clubs but this one I'm not sure, I just have a gut feeling we genuinely could be in for him, ball playing centre back who is comfortable in possession, I'm not sure whether we could land him but i'd be interested to know if any posters or the ed's think there is a chance we push for him?
Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable2

22 Jun 2015 15:10:31
Yes, he is exactly the centre back LVG would want. But no, Ed001 says it is nonsense and he wants a pay rise.

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 15:45:59
Using my head I agree he's trying to get a pay rise, I'm just going on a gut feeling, even with his antics I would love him to be here, I had the same feeling about Mata, van persie and falcao before we were even linked
I'm not claiming to be psychic I just seem to get drawn to other teams players and Ramos is one when I watch Madrid :P

Agree0 Disagree3

22 Jun 2015 13:09:53
Not going to lie, i just want to have the excitement of actually signing someone at the moment, could care less who it was.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

22 Jun 2015 16:02:09
Unfortunately that seems to be the way with the modern generation of fan. You will have that excitement and then by November when the player we signed just to please you has been awful you will turn on him and say the clubs transfer policy is no good. I am quite happy to wait as long as it takes to buy players who are good enough.

with the new sponsor with adidas coming into play on august 1st, anyone know when they are going to get rid of the nike symbols at the stadium(on the seats?)

anyone know what there going to change it to ir, adidas or there logo?

also when are they releasing the new kit?

All will be done on or just after 1st August.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 12:57:00
well i didn't answer it myself did i? the question was aimed at getting a specific date especially towards the kit question.

just because the deal with nike ends at the end of july doesn't mean we can't release the kit early does it.

but thanks for your much needed reply its given me all the info i wanted.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 13:10:26
Why would they do a kit launch early when they wouldn't be able to sell it??
United and Adidas wanted to strike a deal with Nike to be able to release it early and generate sales on the US tour but Nike told them to naff off.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 13:34:58
it does mean we can't release a kit early. Pretty sure Nike would be taking legal action if we started selling Adidas merchandise whilst still contracted to Nike.

Does anyone agree that we are only linked with Sergio Ramos and Jerome Boateng because they want new deals?

Yes, Ramos may not like it that Ancelotti left, but surely we are being used again like Dani Alves did us.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 11:59:51

United are not being used in anyway other than just the name, they have a list of targets and will know which players are open to a move. While the press are reporting nonsense like this at least they are not getting in the way of any real negotiations.
