Rain fish.... How far a player runs isn't deemed as important as it once was. Find out how he fairs on his high intensity outputs (number of sprints) in a game. That's what all coaches look at nowadays.... Ever wondered why van der vaart always gets subbed for spurs - cos his stats show he doesn't make enough sprints after 75 mins! Anyway.... Fair play to Carrick he has picked his game up but if we are going to get back to the top of Europe we need someone better.... He's fine for your Blackburn and boltons but no chance against Barca.

Ryan Giggs is planning to discuss his Manchester United future with Sir Alex Ferguson and is keeping an open mind about playing on for another season.

Gan I was beginning to think a killer whale had you off for lunch. That was until I saw you stealing that other penguins rocks! Naughty but funny.

I think with Ando his rep and hype on coming was that he was to be a great attacking player but even in that role he has failed (massively) to impress me. His distinct figure change after his injury showed about as much commitment to getting fit as jimmy 5 bellies.

It is such a dissappointment as he looked to have all the makings of a player from Brazil that could actually do a job for us in that first season.

Still waaaaay better than Gibbo ;-)

I think most will agree that the last few weeks we have improved immensely, and it's hardly a coincidence that this has happened in the wake of the Basel result. I think it may have been the best thing that has ever happened to us! Yes, it is sad that we need this kind of defeat to wake up the players and the coaching staff, but if it means more success in the long term, then so be it. Don't get me wrong, I was praying for an equaliser that night too, but just like Benfica in 2005, it's a good job we didn't get it, because it would've been more 'this team is good enough' and 'we have a great squad', and we don't want that. Of course, it still remains to be seen whether the Glazers are willing to let us spend, but I think with Jones, Smalling, Morrison, Pogba and hopefully 1 or 2 top class signings, we can look to the future with optimism.

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year! Even you Scrooge/Rainfish ;-)

With Fletcher's career in doubt, Carrick being the wrong side of 30, Park and Giggs the same as well as Gibson not being good enough. I think we could see Rodwell and Martinez come in, Rodwell would be a great replacement for Carrick and Martinez would be great for Fletcher

I think the issue with Anderson is that he is not cut out to be a box2box midfielder, he is an attacking midfielder just like Ronaldinho.

Sydney

Before you post rubbish compare ronaldinho at 23 to anderson and there worlds apart ronaldinho was ripping england apart, and anderson can't even rip wigan apart, he's not good enough he can't dribble like ronaldinho or do anything like it, the only reason he was compared to ronaldinho when he was younger was cos he's from gremio and he has the same haircut, that is where the comparison ends, the sooner we sell him the better.

If Fergie is to do any shopping in jan i can only see it being proven premiership players. I cant see him dipping into his budjet for some overseas player who could be a waste of time for the 1st 6 months. Id like him to go all out for Leighton Baines and either Tiote or Modric(pretty unrealistic i know). Dont get me wrong some of the names we are linked with would be dream signings but with city being so strong i dont think we can afford any flop signings. Just a thought.

According to dailystar.co.uk manchester united will splash the cash to strengthen our squad do you think they will splash cash and sign decent players in jan to beat city ? {Ed007's Note - Does the Daily Star still cover football?}

I could really see us bringing in names that haven't been thrown around to much and who won't be a huge burden on out budget. Just to say, I think Lucas Biglia's agent has probably ruined any chance of Biglia coming to United, if there was ever plans to do so. When an agent goesp public to raise fee's etc, we normally pull out.

Three players that I have thought of are Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille, having a Spanish speaker in the back 4 would be really useful for De Gea and he can play RB or LB so would offer competition for both positions.

Centrally I still think Rodwell will be our man, can't see anyone realistically being signed, certainly not someone like Gotze. I don't think Gotze or Eriksen would come in because after 4 or 5 seasons they will be off to Real or Barca. Not something that we want to make a habit of.

A player i would like to see is Thiago who realistically could be signed if he doesn't get much playing time at Barca. But we would have to work something out where Barca don't have a buy back clause, that would be a poor bit of business for me. Thiago would be another great addition.

However the player i want to see at Old Trafford is Iker Munian. He's been mentioned once in the press, at Bilbao he will become a legend there, but he should be at a bigger club and at just 19 he really could add something to our team. Like Rooney he plays up top or in the whole and with these two roaming around then we could see fireworks up front.

On to Gaitan now, I think its likely, not for 30 million though. 20/25 million would be acceptable, he might be Anderson's replacement, i can't make my mind up about that one. As a list of central midfielders by the end of the summer i would like to see Rodwell, Carrick, Giggs, Cleverly, Gaitan, Fletcher. I think i'd be happy with that, and there would be a place there for Anderson if need be.

On the wings we are doing well and Munian would play wide left like David Villa does if necessary. So my squad would be:

De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos

Rafael, Fabio, Azpilicueta, Evra, Ferdinand, Cahill, Evans, Vidic, Smalling, Jones, Fryers.

Valencia, Nani, Young, Park, Rodwell, (Giggs), Carrick, (Fletcher), (Anderson), Cleverly, Gaitan, Pogba, Morrison.

Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Munian, Keane

Young and experienced squad right there.

I don't think a drastic overhaul is required. Think we have enough to win the title this season imo. I would like to see 4 signings in the summer though. My choices would be:

Gareth Bale - Tottenham
Javi Martinez - Athletic Bilbao
Iker Muniain - Athletic Bilbao
Karim Benzema - Real Madrid

I realise this is a big outlay, but would take United to the next level and each of these players are young, ambitious and extremely talented.

Bale could be moulded into a terrific attacking left back as a replacement for Evra.

Martinez is a great all round defensive midfielder. Strong in the tackle, great composure, superb range of long and short passing & controls games.

Muniain is an exciting prospect, can play anywhere as an attacking midfielder (right, left or central) and IMO could be as good as Mario Gotze.

Benzema is a no brainer, possibly cost £25m plus but is a great all round striker. Great touch, strong, good header of ball, two good feet. I rate him very highly as does SAF.

Would all cost big money, but this would give us a fantastic squad capable of competing in all competitions and full of flair. Chance to prove United can still compete for the big names and big fees.

I think the likes of Gibson, Park, Berbatov, Diouf & Macheda will be sold.

I also see Giggs retiring.

May not happen, but this would be my ideal scenario.

What do all of you guys think?

Steven.

Breaking News:

The FA have handed Andy Carroll an eight-game "run" in the Liverpool first-team.
The club's lawyers have confirmed Liverpool are set to appeal and have labelled it as another conspiracy by Sir Alex Ferguson

Some facts for all you Carrick hating sheep who come on here spouting rubbish:
Michael Carrick covered the most ground for United in that game with 6.56 miles as United out ran Fulham by 64.75 miles to 64.53 miles
Carrick has a tackles won rate of 96% so far this season.

Now you know why Sir Alex is manager and not you idiots. RAINFISHTROMBONE

One thing which is really frustrating and might cost us someday is that whenever United scores a goal, by the time the replay gets over I find the opposition in our box taking shots on our goal. This has happened quite a few times over the past few games and already cost us the goal against Benefica (if you remember).

I think the issue with Anderson is that he is not cut out to be a box2box midfielder, he is an attacking midfielder just like Ronaldinho, you wouldn't expect him to track back. SAF obviously thought he could mould him into a box2box midfielder, but Anderson just doesn't have those skills to adapt. Against someone like Blackburn where he can stay attacking and rarely have to track back, he would destroy defences with is quick bursts forward and great passing ability. Against someone like Chelsea or City he wouldn't be able to cope defensively. We should be using our players to their strengths. When we are trying to break down a team with ten men behind the ball we should have Berbatov playing, when we are trying to get teams on the break we need Hernandez. When we are playing weak opposition and have enough in defence to cope with their attacks we should be playing Anderson, especially whilst we need to close the gap on City's goal difference. I wouldn't be surprised to see Anderson line-up against Blackburn.

I think Lucas Biglia may be a serious option for us or Arsenal this January window. His agent is stating he is ready to go to a 'top' club and that's why they rejected Athletico Madrid. Therefore, United or Arsenal would be a most likely destination if he was to go anywhere.

We've scouted him a few times and have a decent relationship with Anderlecht after the sale of Adnan. His price is being touted at around 8 million Euros which is well within our budget.

Don't know why, I just have a hunch.

Is any one as proud as me, that the club I love with all my heart is not giving its title up without a fight. After that Derby humiliation and other disappointments most clubs would have rolled over and died, not us, not my beloved Manchester United.

Good news:
Beast can play against Wigan at OT..
He surely gives us something special in midfield. He breaks up an attack and i think is being very critical to get back to our counter attacking football rather than starting an attack from deep inside our box area..
I think we were missing that for a bit of years.

now with Rafael playing full 90 mins in reserve what do you think we should switch Smalling back to CB position and Rafael at RB position because i feel thats where he is best.

Anderson is not better than anyone except Gibbo. Just!

Jono"""

dear mr jono
you are a very harsh critic indeed... ngiak is very disappointed
anderson is way better than both moutinho and gibson put together..
moutinho is a typical continental player who gets overhyped
rodwell would be cheaper and fit us much better!
gan
ps.... ngiak's prediction of 2 new players seems to be bearing fruit as we speak..
