Hey eds.

With strootman confirming he is back in training I was thinking lvg might make a late move for him In the transfer window. . Opinions please

Thanks in advance :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If fit and playing to the level he was before he would be a great addition (also a contender for captain). If we also got Vidal then thatmidfield 3 with Harera would be as strong as anything else in the Premiership.

did anyone watch the res's 5-0 victory tonight and if so how did they do?

see petrucci got a couple .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They did really well, they won 5-0

Agree0 Disagree0

They did pretty well, in the end running out 5-0 winners and petrucci managed to bag a couple. All and all a fairly happy outing for the young lads.

So Jurgen Klopp says that rumours about Hummels moving to us are rubbish. If so, where does that leave us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Klopp said the stories of the €20m agreement are rubbish, but we knew that anyway. I still think an agreement can be done between us and Dortmund, they are talking to us which is something. They could refuse to talk at all.

I'm posting him a broomstick first class, it should get there by the weekend. I've even seasoned it for him. Lol.

evening chaps.
Having read listened and put things together.
Id say Vidal is 100%
Also hummels is looking very likely, if other clubs buys has anything to go buy. including juve and there manager leaving.

This leaves a winger as nani may go plus young.
leaving valencia and young adnan.
Id be amazed at Di maria, but has woodwood indicated that a big transfer is coming.

On another note anyone else noticed how Trim rooney is looking. Hoping for a great season from him.
Vidal and herrera should make the difference and he can sit more upfront.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we can get a top cm and cb we can make top 4 I think . Vidal and hummels would be great

Agree0 Disagree0

Love your optimism but how is Vidal 100% and why is Hummels looking likely? You been reading websites?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with AJH, they are clearly the two targets, but they aren't 100% and likely respectively. I am optimistic on both, Vidal more than Hummels, but I think they are going to be difficult to agree. We are playing a 352 against LA and I think we may be looking to do that next season, so Hummels and Vidal would be needed to play that formation well.

Agree0 Disagree0

No Woody has not indicated a big transfer is coming, he has merely stated that, for the right player, the club would be prepared to break the transfer record - the resources are supposedly there.

I suspect he may be telling the truth knowing that the right player isn't actually available. And with a few exceptions, after 5 years of under- or misspending, one cannot help but remain a tad sceptical. The one saving grace is that the club cannot countenance a long term future outside the top 4, so even though the depreciation on the new players may equal the financial benefits accruing as a result of qualification, they really have to take that risk - otherwise sponsors will be less keen in the long term.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rumour has it, Woodwoody is itching to sign a marquee name so he can say 'look at us'. Let's hope LVG reins him in and we make sensible decisions. We need to address the areas of need - CH, VB, Wide player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Whats the team i'm surprised we are playing 3 at the back

Agree0 Disagree0

I think with us trying to buy two b2b midfielders (Herrera & Vidal) and Hummels, I think it's looking like he wants to go with three at the back next season. Hummels would be the one that pushes up into the midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

After watching Holland in the WC and the first half of the Galaxy game I think Hummels, if signed, will actually be the sitting CB.

At the WC De Vriij and Indi pushed on when chasing the ball and Vlaar stayed as the base of the defense calling the opposite CB and WB back in to the defensive line.

During the first half of the Galaxy game we have also played a similar way with Smalling and Evans either side of Jones, who has barely stepped into the Galaxy half in open play.

As for the rest:

Shaw has also played a lot deeper than I thought he would in this formation although that may be because Galaxy have a makeshift leftside so Toni is pushing up onto the FB when he can.

Anders has been the standout so far, great first touch, good vision including spraying a few long balls to put Toni 1 on 1 with their LB, linking very well with Mata (also playing well) and showing lots of energy to get around the park.

3-0 half time with 2 for Rooney, 1 being a terrible goal for Galaxy to concede and 1 pen, and Welbeck with a screamer from 25 yards.

Promising start even if our captain has been a little quiet and a little off the pace so far.

Reading a few post that certain transfer news sites have reported that an Official FIFA agent said Vidal will move to Manchester United within 3 weeks. This turned out to be bogus.

Hopefully thus will give more credibility to thus site and the EDS as we all like rumours and a bit of gossip to increase our heart rate and hopes. But getting ridiculous when lies are being printed like that.

As always we hope our transfer thus summer brings REAL quality, and I hope we get the players we as a United Club deserve.

Looking forward to LA GALAXY tonight :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think the name given of the fifa agent actually exists on the list. Also his agent isn't the name given either. I think he has the same agent as angelo henriquez.

we get vidal ,Arsenal get w.carvalho ,keane / viera part 2 is on! (Although i'd actually love us to sign w.carvalho too, think he is a beast and one we will regret letting slip!l)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree - we will regret it big time, I think. The guy is a gamble but I have no doubts he will be a midfield powerhouse for years to come.

Just a quick thought about Juve strengthening with money I wasn't aware they had. Evra, Pereyra & Morata for what? 30mill? It's also been said that they want Shiqiri who won't come cheap. Where's that cash come from?are Vidal or Pogba going? Fingers crossed it's the former.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has pereyra not moved on loan for 12 month?
I think juve may of sold udinese a cb as part of the dealas well.
Evra cost next to nothing as well.
The thing that worries me about the vidal deal is that I think if they were going to sell vidal they would of sold him and moved for sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred I'm not sure re Pereyra but that would make sense. I'm working/hoping that the idea is United & Juve have agreed a deal/price but Juve want to get there house in order before the deal is struck? I'm totally guessing here haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2014 15:52:14
Good to see Pat stopped by to meet the lads and say goodbye properly. In his prime Evra was an amazing player and as he got older he became a weak link in defence (not the only one) but if there is something that he never has and never will lack and that's passion. His Character and personality will be a huge miss for us. Goodbye Pat and good luck in Italy :)

Central midfielder Roberto Pereyra is having a medical for Juventus today. Possible replacement fir Vidal?

Frictiondixon

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Isn't he a winger?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hardly a replacment, he plays left wing (even though he's right footed).
Vidal is central.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a winger mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not a direct replacement, but Juve seem to have found a lot of money all of a sudden and are spending it quickly. Are they about to accept a fee for Pogba or Vidal or both?

Agree0 Disagree0

It is funny. They will have spent around 30 million Euros on Evra, Morata and Pereyra and they are very closely linked to Shaqiri who would be over 20 million Euros. I think something is about to happen as they need to finance this.

Agree0 Disagree0

So the assumption is Juve had a grand total of 0M to spend when the window opened?

Agree0 Disagree0

IF, that's a big IF. Juve have accepted a deal for Vidal, it might explain why we're denying any interest.

Juve aren't flush for cash. And they're moving quickly, as mentioned above.

Maybe Juve have accepted, but have told us that we must deny anything we're asked until they've made their signings to avoid being taken for a ride by the selling clubs.

Conte walked out - it clearly wasn't because he'd been given no spending money, as they're spending as we speak. Perhaps it was the source of the money he was going to spend.

It just makes no sense that we wouldn't be interested. It's like wanting to buy a Ferrari, and finding out there's a Ferrari for sale, but ignoring the ad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Loko, it's well known that Juve need to sell one of Pogba or Vidal to be able to buy players this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect the vacant Italy job may have had some bearing on Conte's decision. I'd be surprised if a deal for Vidal has been agreed just yet but imagine Juventus may well have made a decision to sell him if nobody offers what they want for Pogba.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney if that's the case then probably they don't want to get ripped by the clubs they intend to get players from

Agree0 Disagree0

Loko, good point, if clubs know they have funds to spend they would ask for more.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think people are getting desperate

Agree0 Disagree0

Or people are using their common sense. It is certainly strange that Juve have all of a sudden started bidding for players and we know they need to sell Vidal or Pogba this summer to fund their transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
So its common sense to think that united have signed vidal.
Whos next lewandowski

Agree0 Disagree0

Who said MU have signed Vidal? I haven't, Loko never, neither did R7, RS or Fresh. We know that Juve have to sell Vidal or Pogba to be able to buy their targets. In the last week or so they have bought the RM striker for €20m, they have bidded €22m for the Sassuolo striker. Signed Ev who isn't cheap considering his signing on fee/salary etc. They have been talking to BM regarding Shaqiri. All in the space of a week. So what has happened in the past week or two for them to go on a shopping spree? I think they may have reached a point in the negotiations where they are close to accepting for either Pogba or Vidal or both, so they have started bringing in their targets and getting their house in order whilst the players are on holiday. That is just my opinion mind.

Mathieu signed for Barca to play alongside Pique.

Leaves little room for Hummels. The reports earlier this week may be correct.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a little surprised that they paid £16m for a 30 year old - especially one who only has two caps for his national team.

Whilst I agree that Mathieu moving to Barcelona is a strong indicator that Hummels will not be moving to Spain this window - I think it also suggests that he simply will not be moving.

Klopp has been very vocal about him not being available and, for the extra £7-10m it would have cost Barcelona, you imagine they would have chosen him over Mathieu were that not the case.

Agree0 Disagree0

R7, although I do not believe the stories released from Spain about MU and BvB agreeing a €20m deal, (I think they jumped the gun) they did say that Hummels had turned Barcelona down in favour of MU. If that was the case, then Hummels wouldn't have been an option for Barcelona hence the signing of Mathieu. It appears Hummels has chosen us so they went for Mathieu,

It's clear Klopp doesn't want to lose Hummels, and it's clear that the €20m agreement story is nonsense which Klopp rightly has laughed off, but we know MU are pushing hard to agree a deal for Hummels, so if we pay enough, in theory we should get him. I hope so anyway. That being said it will be tough as BvB would prefer to keep him and it's unlikely Hummels will force his way out.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the only thing left is the price. We will be penny pinching again no doubt, but I imagine personal terms have been agreed with his agent and he has chosen us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd - IMO Hummels is one of the best 3 CB's in the world and I'd love him at the club. Unfortunately I just don't see it happening. I imagine Reus will still be leaving and given that Lewandowski has already left - I just can't see Dortmund wanting to lose their three best players - regardless of any bid we place.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would agree with how things look.

With a pinch of salt, factor in that his Twitter account went from him talking in German on 05/07/14 to English afterwards and the comment "Maybe I should take english classes again ;)"

We'd easily be looking at €35/40m.

Agree0 Disagree0

R7, why will Reus be leaving? Why Reus and not Hummels? Who is going to buy Reus?

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd - the fact that a deal was agreed with Barcelona at one point suggests that the player wants to leave and that the club have decided to let him go.

The club will not have wanted to let Reus go and so for them to agree a deal in principle suggests that he may well have kicked up a fuss internally. There's also a clause in his contract which comes into effect next summer which would mean them getting less for him if they were to hold onto him.

As for who will take him; I still think Barcelona will move for him before the window closes - but if they don't we'd be foolish not to try.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are reports that Reus will be stayin put this year and will move to Bayern Munich next year when his release clause can be activated.

Agree0 Disagree0

R7, There was an agreement between Barcelona and Reus, not Dortmund and Barcelona. There must be an agreement with ourselves and Hummels if we are trying to sign him. So there's no difference between the two situations.

Just going to post to say hi. again.

Used to post under SB. but I think I forgot my password!

Been reading this site since 2004/5 when at uni (did a Sports Science Degree). Live near Manchester, love Utd through and through, wish I could afford to actually watch more live games! Won't post very often mind.

To start though; excited by the signings of Shaw and Herrera. For prospects; excited by Vidal (which looks promising; Juve need to balance their books), Hummels would be an excellent addition (but don't want to get my hopes too high here. but with Barca signing Mathieu, it's a bit higher now), Di Maria would be a good addition but may cost too much, I think we should buy De Vrij and Blind. and then I'll be a happy boy!

Clear out a bit more deadwood, operate with smaller squad and then re-address next summer.

I do expect news on Vidal when he gets back from his hol's Friday/Saturday.

Read an article where Woody is saying 'we can break the transfer record if we want' I think this means they've been thinking about it a lot, but the only player we've been linked with who would break the British transfer record would be cavani. Interesting, don't know how he'd fit in but I'm sure we'd use him well iffffff we ever sign him, unlikely I feel.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are you talking about?

It doesn't mean anything, for the past 5 or so seasons EVERYONE has been saying Man Utd don't have any money.

Ed is saying, "look, United fans you've got nothing to worry about, we're aware that purchases need to be made and we're in possession of the finances to make it happen, the value doesn't really matter to us, as long as it's the right player".

Also, that means any transfer record, the United one, the British, or world.

If you're sitting there going THAT MUST MEAN WE'VE SIGNED CAVANI, RONALDO, NEYMAR, MESSI AND VIDAL! Then you're mental.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just wait for the "Ronaldo to return Old Trafford" rumours to start tomorow to ease the boredom

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2014 13:20:07
He was quoted saying British record not world record, which is 50 mill, no one we've been interested in has been over 50 except cavani so who else are they going to talk about? I didn't say messi Ronaldo neymar or whoever you're going on about, have some sense

Agree0 Disagree0

It is all cheap talk anyway, Woody can say whatever he wants, but who is out there that we can buy for a world transfer record? No one.
Basically, it is all a load of bull as Woody knows, as we all do, that there is no one out there to break the transfer record on.
The statement is meant to say we can spend, but what a shame there is no one out there to spend it on. Typical Glazer/Woody ploy. They should just concentrate on getting Vidal, pogba, hummels, de Maria, if they're that serious about spending money!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomidfield

I do agree, it's cheap talk until we make the necessary signing.

The season tickets have been renewed, they can say what they like now and it's going to be fine until May.

I'm confident we'll spend, but if we don't I GUARANTEE this is what the club will say:

"Last season, we had a bad manager and a squad lacking in confidence - we've made our most important signing, LVG."

If he then fails to get us top 3-4, the club will roll out the same chest-beating, sponsor-attracting bumf from May onwards. Rinse and repeat.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am a little surprised at Woodward giving any quotes about ability to spend big because surely that gives another club the ability to ask for more. Personally I would rather have a chief exec who doesn't give interviews, who says nothing and who just gets the job done so LvG can stand alongside the player when signed. I want to see action not words so after last season he should simply deliver then sit at home with a good scotch happy in the knowledge of a job well done. That is the satisfaction of the job, not his picture in the paper together with quotes in the papers
The thing is we have heard it all before and he only gets off when the top players arrive. Look at LvG comments on the tour and preparation, doesn't mince his words. LvG is not SAF and I can bet if a player he asks for doesn't come in, especially due to penny pinching, it won't just be Woodward, we will all know, especially as LvG right now has a strong hand following the last years problems.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's what I've been eluding to red man. He is a self publicist he can't help himself . He wants the credit for signings. Just get on with it talk about if it happens. He just makes himself look a bigger k--b than he already does.

Day 1: Madrid is interested in x player
Day 2: club say x is not for sale
Day 3: player x agree personal terms
Day 4: club agree massive deal
Day 5: x arrived for medical
Day 6: Madrid unvail record transfer x

Woodward : united can compete with Spanish giants" watch this space"
Day 1:Vidal/reus/Hummel's are not for sale
DAT 2 : not for sale
Day 3: still not for sale
Day 15: still not for sale
Day 30:. There is no value in the market.
Day 31: player moved to city/PSG/chelase.

Woodward: we can compete. Errrrr. I have to go for urgent business

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We can't attract players like Madrid can, it's a nicer place to live and everyone has grown up dreaming to play for them (outside the uk) that's not woodwards fault it's always happened.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that wasn't so true, it would be funny.

Agree0 Disagree0

For Christ sake can we just lay off the Woody bashing for a while. We are 3 weeks into an 8 week transfer window. We have made two excellent signings already, and I am sure more will follow.
He was rightly criticised for the debacle that was last summers transfer window, but he seems to have upped his game and learned from his previous mistakes.
At least wait until the transfer window is over , before you start criticising him for a failure that may well not happen.
Give the guy a chance at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2014 12:31:00
Mate there's still 6 weeks left i'm sure there will be activity, Woody won't want to look like a nonce after what he's said this week and after last year's debacle

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Betty - definitely until LVG has finished his assessment - why buy players he may not feel we need in a week or so as he may be able to mould players/improve them.

Hummels & Vidal need signing irrespective so I imagine this is work being carried out whilst LVG decides where else we need to strengthen.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2014 12:51:21
Also Anon, Real Madrid have just paid massively over the odds for a player and that is why they signed him. If we offered 60 million for Vidal he would be ours this time tomorrow, but then people would be moaning saying 'is he worth it?'. We will be trying to get the right deal for players (and we have already signed 2 players that most people wanted and have now seemingly forgotten about).

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm from Getafe, which is on the outskirts of Madrid.

therefore I find myself in Madrid from time to time visiting family, etc.

Madrid isn't that great of a city, I mean yes it's historic, yes it has prestige but as a place to live?

It's like London just without the beauty, it's a very standard city imo.

IF you want to move to a beautiful city then you would go to Barcelona, Paris, Milan and even Moncao. All of which are big clubs, the attract with Real Madrid isn't the city.

It's the records, it's the excitement of playing in the same stadium that players like Zidane, Guti, Beckham, Di Stefano, etc. all played in.

It's the opportunity to win 11! yes 11! Champions League titles, it's the chance to be with the best coaches, with the best players in the best training facilities while earning the most money.

the city, for the most part I believe is Irrelevant.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You missed out Glasgow in your list of beautiful cities, shame on you!}

23 Jul 2014 15:53:29
Moon, I agree about Madrid as a city, but I think he meant it was just a nicer option than Manchester for prospective foreign signings.

Year round sunshine would make Belfast appealing too, to be fair.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see much different between the 2 cities if you discount the weather.

Manchester has a more open poorer population and of course is more 'London like' with new shiny buildings but there isn't a whole lot of difference.

Perhaps it is a nicer option but it's nothing something that would enter a players mind when deciding to move clubs.

I think their are too many factors at play before that even becomes a consideration.

I think there will be family discussions where a player will ask his family 'oh what about Madrid?' but I don't think they go 'nope, can't go to Manchester United because Espanyol want me and Barcelona is a much nicer city.'

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2014 19:32:08
