Merry Xmas all posters especially the current influx of other clubs posters who seem to appear every so often when they have a good run of results. So yes merry Xmas to the ones who currently visit our page but will probably disappear later in the season. I look forward to the banter with the new arrivals later in the year and for the start of next season once the current ones like the others who've visited our page realise that they don't support the greatest club. That pleasure belongs to us on this page as we are Manchester United and are here to stay. Many thanks to the eds and maybe one day we could learn their true identities or what they do for their day jobs. I've got my hunch of one or two.

To all the regular posters, hugely overworked eds and anyone else. Have a great Christmas, not too many sherries as you all talk nonsense at the best of times :-)

Lets hope we get a christmas wish or two granted and have some quality added to our midfield and a bit of deadwood moved on this January and we can all be happy. Heres to 9 points over Christmas and New Year and a top four finish.

All the best guys and girls.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Best wishes to you too brendan.
Merry xmas to all posters, Eds, football supporters.

Ok guys, this bitter blue is signing off to get into the festivities, and as it's Panto season I'd just like to say our team is better than yours "oh yes it is"
Baz

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Baz, Lukaku, Barry & Delofleu are going to be some big holes to fill when they return back to their clubs. Unless you sell Barkley or Baines or even both, you will not replace their quality. Everton look a decent side, but you will not finish higher than us dear chap.

Agree0 Disagree0

You will finish 6th or 7th, same points and same place as last year this time and we know how you went after that. Enjoy christmas and celebrate where you are but it will not hold. It only gets tougher now and we ll know who is the toughest team in this league when it comes to run in. 8 points out and climbing. will shave about 3 a month and be there or there a bouts in feb.

hey all happy holidays
what do you guys think of james ward-prowse. seems like he could become a top midfielder.
any one who watches the french league, how has Florian Thauvin been playing. in the summer he played well in the u21 world cup.

eds any chance of making a move for either?

Regardless of the points and where we are. I definitely like Moyes way of boosting Team morals and keeping up the Manchester united spirit! With appointment of Nicky Butt and Scholes as Coach in our youth. With Neville and Gigss becoming coach for senior players. It sets a strong Manchester united spirit in whole club. Which is crucial for future of United.
Asked if he would try to bolster the squad
"We will try in January, " he said.
"I am quite actively looking at our own boys. The likes of Jesse Lingard, Nick Powell and Ryan Tunnicliffe.
"We have quite a lot of boys on loan and they are the ones I am making sure we keep eyes on. They are the future. They are part of the club. They have been in the system. We hope they might be able to come back and help in if we need it in January."

That alone gives huge moral boost to out young players. I am sure when they read this, it will only motivate them and have them working harder. Obviously with Januzaj being a first team regular now. It sends message to our young players that if they work hard enough and if they are good enough they will get their chances! Regardless of Pogba and Morrison, I felt that young players not getting chance only sends a wrong message to youth players.

And now I am so happy with what he said about Rooney.
"What Wayne is doing is making the others play well because he is playing well. He has turned himself into a real team player, "
"With the assists for the team and the goals, his all-round contribution has been fantastic."
"He (Rooney) needs to show the young players, " Moyes said. "He has a big responsibility to show the next generation the standards that Manchester United set.
"You go through the years and look at people like Ryan Giggs and the advice he gave to Wayne Rooney. Wayne has now to give it to Adnan Januzaj and the new players coming up."

Rooney seems to be the player who needs these encouraging words. And he is regularly on Team of the week. Last year he played crucial role. Playing in that hole, working his socks off with tackling and assist. He is now 28. He probably have a good 5 years in him. If he stays for the rest of his career at United, he will definitely set a new record. Not only that Moyes encouraging words might help, direct and give Rooney a more important Role in club, not only as football player but as mentor and a role model.

So overall I am very happy with the progression of our team. I definitely would like January signing of Midfielder( someone who can hold and pass the ball around) a partner to Phil Jones and long term partner to Fellaini(Once he finds a form). And possibly Coentrao on loan.
And then in summer we can add another Midfield, Lb, and Winger and possibly bringing players depending on availability and out going players.

So onwards and forward we march!

Ross Barkley on his Role Model: "Well there's Rooney because I've seen him since I was little, and Paul Scholes, who's my idol's Idol."

Would love this quote to be true as I think he's exactly what we need. I can't see Martinez letting him go though!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Martinez no but Kenwright yes

Have a merry xmas and happy new year all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol I can hear baz's keyboard being aggressively typed on now!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but it's like wanting what you can't have, the title for example

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz, we have the title now. The cup is sitting in a cabinet at OT as we speak ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz merry Xmas bro but please remind me when Everton won the Premier league? Oops well sorry for my failing memory you at least won division one in 86/87, I was born in 86 so sadly missed it.

Very merry Xmas to the gooners and lfc too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz with the worst example in the history of the world, not even sure it needed pointing out Syd, we have had it since May and we are champions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Grund your only a kid so you know nothing, as it stands we have a better chance of winning it than you, Moyes a title winning manager ha don't make me laugh, you'd stand a better chance if you brought back big Ron

Agree0 Disagree0

Gds2 already living in the past? You won the title last season, no one is talking about that this is this season

Agree0 Disagree0

No, you said it is like wanting what we can't have, but we already have it.

Baz, nice of you to talk down to Grund, what does his age have to do with it? What a petty horrible thing to say to somebody.

Latest odds at the bookies have United at 16/1 and Everton at 25/1, so 'as it stands' nobody thinks you have a better chance of winning it except you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Ross join a manager who never played him at Goodison. keep dreaming boys and good luck with 5th place. In Brendon we trust.
merry xmas lads and sydney!, were ever he is

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow! The more I read posts from baz the more he seems like a bitter old man? Firstly calling shappy a kid and now attacking grund because of his age! Seriously mate? This is a football banter site, where topics of FOOTBALL are discussed but to undermine an individual due to age is beyond pathetic. Starting to think that 29 in your name stands for the year you were born;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz

You are exactly were you were last year at this point in the season in total points and exactly the same league position. You will finish 6th given how your fellow scourers are going. Come summer we shall see how you go forward as this is DM team with a couple of loanees. You have actually scored one less goal this year than last year.

The reality is that team Like Everton will never win this league with the financial might of United, Chelsea and City and will always struggle to keep hold of their best players when the big teams come calling.

Like last year your last 6 games will prove your undoing.

Happy Christmas to all my fellow reds. Going to propose to my missus tonight, so a yes, a run of wins and a midfielder in January will make me a happy camper. I also wouldn't mind getting home from Australia for a bit and getting to a game. Heres to (hopefully) great 2014 on and off the pitch.

Have a good one everybody

For anyone that mocked my valuation of Barkley, I'm very happy with Martinez for doubling it and stating a clear "Not for sale"
Merry xmas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Dec 2013 10:17:05
I rate Martinez highly and I really like him as a manager and he comes across like a nice bloke. But he is seriously deluded if he thinks Kenwright would turn down anything over 30m for any Everton player.

So Martinez can say what he wants, but until Kenwright says he'll only sell Barkley over his grandkids dead bodies then he is very much still available for the right price.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because you say so Shappy? Lay off the player manager games kid you've lost the plot, Moyes is bringing back loan players so that says it all.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can tell you now that Barkley is under contract and NOT for sale even if Manchester United or indeed anyone else came anywhere near breaking the transfer record of 86 million - but there again Moyes would probably offer 20 million for Ross and Leighton, the cheeky t**t.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Dec 2013 11:48:18
Baz its just the reality of the situation. Your deluded if you seriously believe that Kenwright wouldn't sell for the right price. Half a season of good form doesn't a big club make.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats he done so far? not a lot you can keep him, powell is as good a prospect and scores a lot more goals

Agree0 Disagree0

Bloody deluded martinez and he is grand standing. What 3 good performances and they think he is messi LOL. He is a decent number 10, but a farce to start talking about this guy anything more than middle tier.

All you guys need to go for a check up after the new year. I swear I hope we don't even go near him as there is so much better out there.

Wait till the end of the season they will finish 6th and someone will buy him and they will take the money and run. 20-22 million I reckon.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would buy him for 20 mill tomorrow the lads going to be a star.
I think he will be more a box to box player providing a driving force in the middle of the park

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, me too, but I think we have ruined any chance we had of signing him sadly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
To be honest I hope he stops at Everton for the the next 2 year and really finds his feet as a footballer.
To many young players move to early imo the lads improving all the time why move.
But money talks

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, again, I couldn't agree more. But if he decides to move on there will be no shortage of admirers. Both City and Chelsea would be interested in him and with no allegiance to us, City or Chelsea, he could choose any of the three and I feel City and Chelsea could offer him more. I think we have missed our window.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

City and Chelsea are like graveyards for guys like him and he will sit there on the bench collecting dust.

Jred

I disagree with your view on him being a star and let's wait and see where he is in 24 months. He is limited as a number 10. How many assists does he have and how many goals per start. He is not a good enough passer or distributor to play further back as a holding midfield either.

Decent number 10 for outside top tier clubs in england, spain, germany, spain. Where he is actually is the best place for him 6th/5th place team maybe europa league, who knows.

I had them finishing 6th but with pool playing the ay they are, I think they will finish 7th.

Agree0 Disagree0

GcU
I disagree, for various reasons I've seen him play for the Last 5 years.
In 24 month he will be the best English cm in the EPL.
The lad is only 20 and would of been playing first team football at 18 and be fully established by now if he hadn't broken his leg.
He will go with England to the WC and will be England's next big thing.
And he's not a number 10, how much of him have you really seen, honest question

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Dec 2013 22:54:24
Shahram, I rate Barkley but he's not a no.10 and he never will be. I feel he is being played their do that he can hone his attacking instincts before he gets moved back into a more box to box midfielder role. I also think that he is being played further forward atm so that he can learn the game before he is given the responsibilty of a more rounded and more disciplined role which requires more defensive work.

If he was thrown into the heart of midfield now it could effect his confidence if he has a bad game as it would likely effect the result of the game. So now he's playing in a role that has less responsibilty and there for less pressure while he develops. Sir Alex has done similar things when blooding youngsters, with Rooney he played him on the left to help develop his game, with Scholes he played him further forward while he developed both physically and as a footballer.

I see Ross Barkley playing a similar role as Bryan Robson or Steven Gerrard. An dynamic box to box player who'll be putting in a vital tackle on the edge of his box one minute and charging forward with the ball the next minute or getting on the end of a break away and scoring. He'll be a player who drives his team forward, but you can't put that pressure on him yet so he is playing further forward while he develops as a footballer and mentally before he takes the mantle of team leader.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred

I have not watched him week in week out. I have seen him 10 times probably and generally look at teams and focus on who influences things the most. He is definitely not the biggest influence to Everton's form and it is the back four and Barry and Osman, who are the guys responsible for pulling the strings. Their wing backs are excellent defenders and very good going forward and having Lukaku upfront opens things up for guys like him.

The reality is you can't play for 90 minutes as a number 10 and not have a few good moments in the game. The question that remains is he being overhyped or is he going to develop into something of a star as you believe.

Shappy does have a point that eventually he might be a box to box midfielder and this is just a way of getting him seasoned. He does nothing for me as a number 10 when you think of guys like Isco, Oscar, Matta etc etc who are much better technically and tactically.

So when you look at our team, we have better number 10's that includes an 18 year old:)who will be a star, rooney, rvp and what we lack is a creative midfielder and box to box if you play a 4231. in a 442 we need a creative midfielder more than a box bro box and he does not fit our requirements.

I think it is far too early to tag someone as a star as there are no guarantees they can make the transition to something that is not in their nature. i.e Anderson comes to mind, looked great going forward in his earlier years but lacked the passing and tactical sense and when playing further back just like a fish out of water.

I might be absolutely wrong but been watching guys like him for donkey's years and 95% of the time they turn out to be just good solid players and no superstars.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gcu
I very rarely if ever big up the young players as I think u you need to prove yourself but I think this lad will make the grade.
Don't compare him to isco etc he's not that type of player, think B Robson.
He imo will be a box to box player with drive and the ability to beat a player.

A lot can happen and go wrong but I really think the lads a talent

Agree0 Disagree0

Should also add he is 20 just breaking in to the team his influence will grow
