Big game tomorrow, win and we make a statement. Lose and we are third with Chelsea level and potentially Spurs only a point behind. The performance is important but the result is critical. Which United will turn up?

In which case we are buggered.

We have to score first. If we do, I think we'll win, and win comfortably. If we don't, with the way we set up, the pedestrian nature of our football, and the lack of a leader on the pitch, I can't see us getting back into it. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.

I bet the odds for 0-0 or a set-piece 1-0 either way have never been worse.

Early goal is essential if we have any chance of a decent watch.

I’m interested to see what happens. After a very positive start to the season there appears to be something not right at the moment. It could be a power struggle, it could just be players are out of form, it could be Jose’s tactics or man management, but it makes tomorrow’s game massive. Slowly but surely we have been caught and we now have several teams breathing down our necks.

Unfortunately I only see Chelsea winning and probably 2 or 3 nil.

Nou - I think our record says we have to score first, I read the other day that in the last 30 games where we have conceded first we have only won once!

We'll see if that stat stays intact after Chelsea, Sevilla and Liverpool come knocking over the next few weeks. If so then maybe we'll see a bit more positivity on here, if we lose all three then expect WW3.

24 Feb 2018 20:22:33
Did Liverpool score lots of goals again? We're all doomed! If we Lose or draw against Chelsea tomorrow I think I'm going to have to take a few weeks off. Can't bear anymore of this doom and gloom.

If we every get anywhere near the relegation zone I think we would have to dish out Samaratans cards to people on here. (I am not mocking them btw, fantastic organisation)

I've got my tin hat on and i'm ready for the pelters;so here goes, french and german journos' (and mostly bloggers it seems) are saying that if psg receive the slightest encouragement from the agents or those close to them, then they are willing to make an approach for both pogba and martial, could be a load of
tosh, who knows, or maybe its a way of agents getting their clients a better deal, time will tell, but today on the radio they said that seri's buy out clause had been enquired about the club, again probably flannel, but IF martial were to go, i'd like to see son from the spuds, he's just about the game, and i think he's not given the freedom at the spuds to reach his potential, or what about schurle at dortmund?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

24 Feb 2018 12:41:25
Are you an international man of mystery 82? Last week you had the inside scoop from Spain.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2018 15:12:08
I don't believe those "reports" although a top French club going after top French players won't be strange. But that is a different matter I don't know whether true or not. I think Son is a good player.

BUT Schurrle? Really? The guy has found it hard to be a regular fixture in the Dortmund team and not playing that great for 2-3 years. I think we can and should find better targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2018 17:51:22
'82 - I think there's a rift with jose and pogba that could explode. Its early return days for PP but I would think he is a hard player to handle and petulance is a strong characteristic. In saying that he has the tools to be a world class player but if he doesn't step up to the plate sell him, simple. If he were to go I would take any 2 from jorginho, milvelocic (SP) seri. Based on we need another mid at least + replacement.
Martial imo has had long enough to get his S**t together and is frustrating and predictable. I agree with others that he hasn't had game time that would help but he is in danger of being replaced imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2018 19:48:28
Pogba is having a bad patch, but imo he isn't being played in a manner which suits him best. I agree that he clearly needs to work harder as well.
Compromise is the middle ground, and a top class manager needs to know when he needs to find that middle ground.

Cookyman, I'm surprised your not a fan of Martial, for me he is one of the few players who looks like he could make something happen, even when being played out of position on the left wing. Sure he is a little inconsistent but that is the same for nearly all creative forwards, its the nature of their position. Especially when that player has only recently turned 22.

Deano1210-lol, i've been to wales a few times so maybe i tick the box! -the info my mates sometimes text or email me is from people they work with in the digital media world, you know, the ones who love being called hipsters and don't mind paying £10 for a coffee with a long name, but its okay because they get a 'free' cookie as well! i think the bloggers in europe are far more savvy over there and for all intent and purposes get a tasty morsel or 2 before rhe journos a good few times, the psg link is allegedly not far wide of the mark, like its been said on here, if neymar bolts then they need to bring in some big big names to calm the fans? whatever the reason who knows, but that's the buzz over the cable, and i think your on the money cookyman, both pogba and martial can turn a game in an instant, but once in a while isn't a good return, maybe we should get keano back to give some motivation lessons man management techniques old school style, and i'd like to know who in the current side is the enforcer, as in when a player makes a ricket, he's not so much scared of the rocket he'll get from jose, but more the fear he'd have from being cornered by someone like keano
and made to understand in very uncomfortable terms to pull his finger out, every team needs one, is there one in the team now?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2018 02:06:31
Are people being serious about martial being poor? He has scored and assisted more than the 500k man we have bought, but who cares about actual real facts. Let's sell him and pogba and rashford too while we are at it, what we need is more 30 year olds and 35 year olds.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Feb 2018 07:33:21
CSM-I think everyone wants pogba and martial to stay and be a success, but if their a lot more miss than hit week in, week out, then what's the point, if your jose, and you ask pogba to a job for 1 game out of position and the toys go flying out of the pram, surely you've got every right to question him, and look at his agent;i think its mino raiola, he's sticking his beak in and letting it be known he's not happy how pp is being treated! if SAF were in charge now, do you think pp would be endulged, his feet wouldn't touch the ground, martial is also a very talented player, great ratio on assists, but again surely if he had anything about him he'd be going nuts out in training to show he can do more then a job on the wing, or come on as a supersub, as for rashford, surely he needs a mentor in the team, but maybe that's the problem, there is no natural leader in the team, all great teams have one, i'm most likely wrong but i don't think there is one in the team, and that maybe the problem, maybe jose was hoping pp might step up and be that figure, i guess that hasn't happened, so who will step up, there needs to be someone surely.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Fergie indulged some players, such as Cantona, when he felt it was needed to get the best from him. Not so sure Pogba would have been out the door as quick as you suggest if Fergie was still in charge, it would have depended on what he thought was best for the team. When you look at the United team, you have no one else who can do what Pogba does at his best, so I would think Fergie would have just ensured he got the best out of him, even if it required indulgence. At least until he had got the team into a position where it no longer needed Pogba.}

25 Feb 2018 14:29:39
Can't disagree there Ed0001.

{Ed001's Note - certainly would have been interesting to see Fergie deal with this squad.}

25 Feb 2018 16:51:08
Shappy- I really hope that martial would have kicked on and as my post said game time hasn't helped. but I really think he is a guy who could come off after 90 mins and play another match. He sure has talent but he is a bit predictable and goes missing if he gets a cruncher.
CSm- same reply -not saying he is poor just that he doesn't put a shift in and its the premier league, man utd and cup football on the greatest scale, not the dudley licensed vitulars sunday morning kick about. He is not the only one in the current squad but he could have a chat with Linguard and mctominay who may not possess his potential or raw talent but take every opportunity as if its their last. that's the type of player I want to see pull on the jersey, doesn't every fan?

Here is a question for you folks. Why can't english football produce players capable of dictating the tempo of there game? I feel I appreciate a player like Scholes more now than I did at the time. However, since Scholes and Gerrard have called time on their career, England don't seem to have a great passer of the ball or someone who can dictate the tempo. Carrick is another who was good at this but obviously he is retiring. Where have these types of players gone? Players like Gerrard and Scholes were so technically gifted, and it just doesn't seem like those calibre of player are being produced any more, is it because Scholes was such a special player? Kroos is the closest I've seen to Scholes in my opinion.
Just interested in your thoughts, after all I'm an Irish fan so I'm used to watching steve Davis or Glenn Whelan. A far cry from the likes of Keano!
Caolán.

I feel that most players natural ability is trained out of them by the time they get to regular first team football, too many rules and restrictions and not enough let them be who they are. I realise players need to understand team play and tactical things but in England especially it seems almost as if they are told not to utilise their natural skills.

Too much emphasis on this country in being physical and athletic rather than technical and gifted. Often when I was younger I remember one of my friends who was a powerhouse striker with pace and strength but couldn’t finish to save his life was picked over someone who was clearly more gifted and technically superior. As WRD says either it gets coached out of the lads or these technical players are cast aside from a young age for being too small and they never find a way back in. Shame really as we have seen at united size and height does not necessarily translate to success.

Caolon_2,if you get a minute, check out the likes of what ajax were doing from the mid-eighties, its only now were starting to realise their way is the right way, also, what manager now has the luxury to take the time to teach methodology and technical awareness, hence why the short-term fix is go foreign, we need the likes of liam brady to be brought in, now there's a player to learn from!

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2018 11:42:55
The problem with creating a team of athletes is you go to a World Cup with a midfield 3 of henderson, Alli (who is severely overrated) and Livermore. I’d love ya to bring through a player or two who have the ability to control games, and just be an all round midfielder. Gomes looks to be the best in our youth at the moment for technical ability, but like you have been saying he way the English game is I won’t be surprised to see it being years before he gets a chance.

24 Feb 2018 11:44:21
Class of 82, isn’t Liam Brady one of the most respected youth coaches around? Not to sure what our coaching staff is like at youth level at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2018 14:02:16
Wilshere could have been. We have too much emphasis on athleticism rather than control and skills.
Instead of running around a pitch without a ball, do it with a ball each at a young level. Practice shielding against multiple players with both feet having to be used.

Caolan I totally agree. there are some very talented youngesters coming through in gomes, sancho and foden but are they going to be given a chance? Sancho is flourishing at Dortmund and looks a fantastic player. I think we do have technically gifted players but it seems it gets coached out of them when they break into the first team. Wilshere springs to mind although that is most likely down to his injuries. One of the most ridiculous things I have seen recently is Everton loan out Lookman to RB Leipzig and have spent 30 odd million on Walcott whilst Lookman is not playing fairly regularly for Leipzig. I think he scored the winner on his debut. It is this sort of short termism that is killing the English youth. the fact we will have a midfield of livermore henderson and alli going into the world cup is bordering on embarrassment.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2018 20:38:23
Caolon_2,yep, brady is widely respected AND wasted at arsenal, he has helped bring through loads of youth players who hit the barrier of going as far as the reserves and having to move on, only wilshire i think has made the switch, but for me, brady is all about helping the next generation, doesn't court the limelight and is open-minded in his approach to new methods of teaching, put that together with his studious nature and the fact he's a good man, i think he'd be a revelation coaching at united, but alas his loyalty to the arse (like pat rice) means this probably will never happen, a shame though.
