I agree with bringing the youth through i think its what united are all about but they have to be good enough.
A lot of young players have been giving a chance over the years which is a credit to the club but how many have pushed on to be worldclass players or established internatinals not many since the class of scholes etc.

Quotes from Luis Suarez himself (Dated 1st July 2011);

"Even before I knew Pere Guardiola, my current agent, I had this desire, this dream of a chance to play for that team, " Suarez told Don Balon magazine.

"Obviously he is a person related to Barcelona by his brother, but work situations are totally different relationships."

"If Guardiola wants me, I want to play for Barcelona no matter who represents me"

He never even mentioned Liverpool, the words stepping stones springs to mind.

Right to Beat Barca we need to take their policy on youth and apply it to ourselves that way we have a team of player who can play instictively together and move and interchange. I can believe some people don't feel this is the way forward. look at the young players at the club: Hernandez, Evans, De Laet, Obertan, Bebe, Cleverley, Smalling, Welbeck, Fabio, Rafael, Macheda, Amos, King, Pogba, Tunnicliffe, Morrison, Jones, De Gea, Johnstone, Cofie, R.Brown, Petrucci, Wootton, M.Keane, W.Keane, McGinty, Thorpe, Blackett, Van Velzen, Hendrie and Moller Daehli then add to that players in their mid twentys like Rooney, Anderson, Nani, Diouf and Lindegaard. Then add to that the youngster that are bound to join in the next year or so. Not all of these players will make it but unless we give them a chance then none will. the future is bright if we can base our future on these guys. seriously will it kill you to be abit more positive.

Red daz
This is the year for Anderson to make his Mark in a red shirt. U say he's slow and got a bad first touch, he is by far our quickest central midfielder, his bursts of pace are exactly wat we need in the middle, he drives at defenders and is a great passer of the ball.

I truly hope Fergie's joking about no more signings, Schole's was probs our best CM player last season and will be missed, even more so without a quality replacement.... If quality goe's it needs replacing IMO, we have some great Cm players already and good youth coming through but I'm not convinced it's enough, Joey Barton is not the answer.... HERBIE

i feel fergie isnt using his squad effectively.if he bothered to put anderson in his favoured position and converted fletcher to defensive midfield, we would a strong unit. a line up and formation like the following would be effective in europe and premier league:

-------------------de gea----------------------
----rafael----ferdinand----vidic-----evra----
------------------fletcher----------------------
---------anderson--------rooney-------------
-----nani--------hernandez-------young-----

How about we give Anderson and Cleverley the chance to stake a claim and if it's not working by january we sign someone then? Nasri maybe? i'm sure if he hasn't signed his new contract by then arsenal will do a deal, or wait and give him a good deal next summer when he's free. Anderson and Cleverley deserve the chance to stake a claim. If we had the attitude of not trusting the youngsters would we have ever had Scholes in the first place. give the lads a chance and you maybe surprised.

Luis Suarez is the best player in the PL, and getting better. 23 mill, what a bargin especially considering you spent 32 mill on Berbanob, 20 mill on Hargreaves, 19 mill on Carrick and Anderson etc, etc, etc......

Hi Guys

If what he said last night is true 'no more signings' well I am on the verge of siding with Rainfishtrombone. This is nothing short of a disgrace, everyone knows that that squad without the addition of established midfield talent in nowhere near good enough. I have played the patient game for two years since Ronnie left and bit my tongue, but when a player who is as influential as Scholesy goes you need to act. We got lucky with the class of 92, where is the stockpile of money that was meant to be put to one side for when they go. Whats happened to the Ronaldo money. We haven't spent anything again this summer when you look at the balance sheet. We got 50m for winning the league, thats all we have spent. the wages are immaterial as we have freed up loads of wages with transfers and natural wastage. Quite literally where is the dough, why are we not in for the best there is. Beginning to lose my rag now

I know I'm gonna get slated for this but I've just seen the Joey Barton thing (been out all day). I actually wondered some time ago (pre-city) why SAF didn't go for himYorke etc etc why couldn't he control Barton and get the best out of him. We got Cantona for peanuts and look what happened there. Stop being short sighted and look at what (if correct as a rumour) could be a bargain midfield ball winner with a good sense of mind for a pass and the odd goal.

So Sir Alex apparently rules out anymore signings this summer... I'll believe it when the window shuts. I hope he is trying to create a smokescreen for a big unveil because our midfield needs strengthening. Michael Carrick isn't good enough how he got a new deal is beyond me, the dury is still out on Anderson he blows hot and cold but I think he needs a run before we will fully know how good a player he is, Darren Fletcher would be first pick in the middle of the park but hes become injury prone which is such a shame. Just wondering if you beleive SAF Ed? Do you think that our current central midfielders are good enough? {Ed007's Note - I would take AFs statement with a pinch of salt and see what happens between now and the end of August.}

What is this Joey Barton nonsense Surely we would never let that thuggish person near our team?
We need a class CM, i'm still hoping for Wesley.
I do worry about our awful away performances from last season and think we need someone to control the game which we clearly don't have.
And all this well we got to the CL final, well we did have an easy passage.
Not just Barca who are better than us I think Real or Bayern would turn us over as well.
Please Fergie buy Wesley. Rant over

hey guys, I've got a rather controversial suggestion we put rooney in CAM, then buy drogba chelsea will be looking to flog him-even to us I know that he is a little old but by the time that he retires, macheda, diouf and joshua king will be ready
we could field a line-up like this:
de gea
evra vidic ferdinand rafael

young/nani fletcher rooney carrick park

trev mate if it was upto me i'd rather have united arsenal and liverpool battling it out for the title, chelsea and man city have neither the history or the class of us three but i feel for the next couple of years it'll be united chelsea and city as true title contenders.
There are several of your players i admire(szczsny, wilshere, nasri and ramsey) and enjoy your style of play even though it does frustrate at time(someone have a shot, a lack of killer instinct and maybe a lack of aggression) but i feel arsene has taken you as far as he can and due to his reluctance to buy world class players and only sign "certain" kinds of players means that your team is becoming abit of a feeder club to the likes of man city and barcalona which is a shame for a team that give so much to english football as a whole. I mean i couldn't be this nice to a team that was an actual challenger to the title, that unfortunately is how far your team has fallen over the last couple of years. I truly hope things can change as some of my favourite premier league moments have come between our two clubs and i'd like to think of you as actual rivals again. Instead it looks like your teams has gone into hiding just like viera did when confronted with an angry roy keane in the tunnel, for your club though there doesn't seem to be a bergkamp to protect you like viera had. Lol.

ed002, for a youth player the first measure of success does have to be getting into the first team. So you can say that wilshere has managed that, but if he is to be a great player he needs to have the determination and grit to go on and win things to have a successful career. I hope he does as i think he is one of englands best young players and i always wanna see young english players do well. Weather he can do that at arsenal remains to be seen.

ed002, thats a fair point, but how many players when they retire look back on their career and say it was successful because they played in the first team? Isn't nasri wanting to leave because he want's to win things and be successful.
Shappy {Ed002's Note - That may well be the case for some players as they get older. My point relates to the measurement of success of a youth player coming through the ranks.}

Well last night's game was definitely the best work-out of the tour so far. De Gea was very sure of himself. His great distribution and decision making were there for all to see. Didn't seem to have a problem with communication either. Shame about conceding the goal, there was really nothing he could do. Smalling and Jones looked like they needed a few more games to get back to full match sharpness. As did Cleverley. Hope to see more of Smalling, Jones and De Gea together, before the end of pre-season.

Welbeck had a great night IMO. First game back and didn't look out of place. He could be an important squad player this year. But he needs to keep working on his upper body strength. He's not going to be allowed the same kind of time and space in the Premiership.

And guys, I wouldn't read too much into Sir Alex's latest comments. I personally think it's a case of who blinks first between Inter and United. I'm confident that a midfielder is coming in. Maybe Sneijder, maybe someone else.

'Trev the gooner' I suspected you would have gone into hiding after making yourself look like a right person yesterday.

I've seen alot of opposition fans I know saying that De Gea could have came for it. Maybe he cpuld have, but what they are forgetting is:

He is 20 years old and moved from the La Liga to EPL. In Spain most football is played on the ground, the keepers are not required to come and pick balls out of the air. When the second opportunity came, he done it with ease. It will become a natural for him, in due course.

Other than that, anybody see Rio's Tour vid last night? Great to see the team bonding like that.

Think you should all take a leaf out of SYDNEY's book and stay positive and support whats happening. Just wait and SAF will not let you down, remember no-one wants to strengthen that Midfield more than him after the Barca debarcle. It will be fixed and we can celebrate number 20 with a great squad of young players and a World Class Midfield.

I think our squad could look like this next season. I believe we need a left back, central midfielder and a striker if Berbatov goes.

De Gea - Lindegaard - Amos - Johnstone

Rafael - Fabio - Smalling - Jones - Evans - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra - (Izaguirre?)

Fletcher - Cleverley - Giggs - Carrick - Anderson - Valencia - Young - Nani - Park - Pogba - Morrison - (Sneijder?)

Rooney - Hernandez - Welbeck - Owen - Berbatov/new forward.

For the last time the Sneijder deal is done. SAF is going along with Inters request to keep stum until they have brought in a big name signing to please their fans. His reps in Manchester at the moment talking to Agencies re his wife's career and looking for a flat in London aswell as a house in Cheshire. The deal is done so chill but you will have to be patient for the annojcement as that cant be done until Inter give the word. In the meantime Inter & Utd will continue to say the same thing. No interest, not selling etc. Just like we did whedn we were buying Rio Na De Gea etc. Just be patient. We have our man. Press and club politics is just playing out.

If saf really believes we will win anything with that midfield I really do think he has now lost the plot. Carrick can't tackle, Fletcher not good at anything apart from being an headless chicken, Anderson not showing potential and Giggs 37 yrs, Nani worse crosser of the ball for a winger I have ever seen. We will be lucky to finish top 3. I don't know what fergie see's sometimes. We need at least 2 top midfielders to compete with the best in Europe. A hard man and 1 creative that can pass more than 10 yards. For me Parker, sneijder.

Instead of people reading the headlines, how about reading the quotes. The quotes are what SAF actually said and the headlines are bodged to pull the weak in. Here is what SAF actually said;

"We are always looking for good quality players"

"We started the season with the players we have and I am satisfied with that"

"We are not looking at the moment but we are looking at combinations of central midfielders now at the club"

Well thats it then no more signings, and to be honest i'm not that worried. I think Gibson will stay now as sir alex said this "We've got a big squad now and we're going to need it, I think. It's a young squad too. We've got Chicharito to join us on tour, Darron Gibson's back home." so i think Gibson will stay. We've lost Scholes and Hargreaves but Scholes didn't play that many games(although when he did he was quality but struggled to last the 90) and Hargreaves none really. This is a season that Sir Alex invisages the younger and fringe players steping up. We have experiance in midfield with Carrick Fletcher and Giggs, then you have the likes of Anderson Gibson Cleverley and Jones who are expected to step up and stake a claim, you also have the much talked about youth team youngsters with Pogba Tunnicilffe Morrison Petrucci and Norwood who could also feature in a few games, so thats 12 midfielders who will nearly all play a role next year. All our current players will have improved and will hopefully flourish without the pressure of having legends like Scholes Neville and VDS there and will feel the need to step up in their absense. So lets not get all doom and gloom about "no more signings" if Sir Alex doesn't feel we need someone and he thinks the players are ready to step up then i trust him in his belief. Remember a certain pundit said you don't win owt with kids, well how right was he? always trust in Sir Alex.

Lets just look at who we were playing tonight a team that has managed just 2 wins all season and we struggled to make their keeper work for 70 minutes. Welbeck and Macheda showed why they struggle in the premiership and Obertan continues to frustrate as he doesn't lift his head and see the correct pass. Still no dominating midfielder to control the pace of the game and find that killer pass. No problems with the new boys just a nice warm up for them as they get used to playing for a big team.RAINFISHTROMBONE

Dont worry about the 1st goal guys.

Heat was too much and VIDIC+RIO will stop such crosses day in day out.

Sharp passing by Welbeck in the opening 20 mins, Obertana has been Ronaldo-esqe in pre-season,
Cleverley had a bad game but who does not?,

Let Chicha come and then we'll be even better.

Our class shone through in the end against Fire (eventually). I just think they worked a lot harder than us in the heat and were sharper than the u21 lads. Think we probably got more out of that game than the Sounders game in all honesty. De Gea reminds me of a younger, and slightly more fragile Van Der Sar, looks to have a fair bit of confidence about him and distribution was good. Cleverly had a stinker but I wouldn't judge him on that. And Rafeal gave his brother a bit of a lesson ;) All in all you've got to be reasonably happy, pre-season games don't mean an awful lot but I'd have hated to lose and have that spoil our fun with Liverpool's result :)
