Nice to see that we have a good english core in the team.
Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Cleverly, Young, Carrick, Owen, Rooney, Wellbeck. Plus Morrison, Tunnicliffe, Thorpe and the Keane brothers the future is looking bright.

Im just wondering who we will get next. Everyone is going on about modric, snjeider and sanchez and occasionally nasri. This is just being repeated off the back pages of the comics that everyones reading.

Personally i think Fergie will buy some unknown player or someone unlikely thought of. Lets face if Man Utd are interested in a player then Chelsea and City will be suddenly interested and offer silly money. I think that Sanchez is unlikely to come due to Udinese wanting more money everyday. We now have alot of midfielders. Cleverly, , Anderson, Fletcher, Giggs, Park, Carrick and Valencia can all play in midfield. I know we all want some top player but Fergies not always one for going out and buying for the sake of it. I can see Anderson being given another chance and possibly an eye will be kept on the Nasri situation and represents the best value for money. Also Barcelona and Real don't need him. Chelsea and Man City would possibly be interested along with a few Italian clubs.

I think De gea deal will be the next deal the club is focused on getting completed.

Ed what do you think?

{Ed019's Note - I agree with the points you make. I'm a big follower of United's academy and I'm confident some will make the breakthrough sooner rather than later. Also as much as I still hope we sign Sanchez it is looking less and less likely. I also reckon it is quite likely SAF will sign someone completely unknown for midfield and I reckon Anderson will have a big season next year.

Seeing how everybody is doing it practically, i might as well join them i suppose.

My ideal team would be this:

................De Gea...........
Raphael..Ferdinand..Vidic..Evra
...Nani...Martinez...Young......
..............Rooney..............
.....Rossi.............Chicharito...

And i would also buy a few young players to round up our backups while getting rid of surplus fringe players already here - i estimate in total we would spend about £50m for the 3 already in bag and another £65m for the rest and if you consider that we will sell players that may bring in about £20-30m our total could be as low as £85m and our squad would be drastically improved!

What do you guys think?? i think this way we give our young players (wellbeck, Morrison, Pogba etc) a chance to develop and we have added quality to the squad without spending crazy amount like Man City!
Please comment on what you guys think??

Now lets be serious about our signings and what we need. First off we don't need a full defensive midfielder nor do we need an "attacking" midfielder. I say "attacking midfielder" as all players on the field should attack when the situation arises. What we should call them is an offensive midfielder in that it's a midfielder who thinks about going forward more than defending but i'm getting into sumantics now.
What we need is a Scholes replacement which should be someone who shields the back four passes forward and keeps possession of the ball. For me the three names on our list should be Wilshere, Martinez and Banega and in that order. And if we can't get one of them then stick with what we have an bring forward the youth. The only other signing would be a forward player maybe a youngster like Erick Torres or Alvero Morata or maybe someone abit older like Gyan(possibly a deal with 10m+Diouf).

As for Ashley Young, i wish people would stop putting him down, over the last 5 years only Kevin Davis has been fouled more and only Fabregas has a better assist record so stats wise he's one of the most consistant performers in the league. And like syd said he hardly ever misses a game.

Now moving onto our formation for next year i'd go with this:

-----------Carrick-----------
----Valencia------Rooney----
-Nani-----------------Young-
---------Hernandez----------

With Hernandez pushing high up the field stretching the defense and Carrick sheilding the back four and starting off moves with his clever passing. Then you have Valencia Rooney Nani and Young all able to move and interchange making it impossible to mark them and creating space and holes in the oppersition defense to attack with passing and speed. Also the only posistion we'd need replacing any time soon would be Carrick in the next year or two personally i'd like Martinez to replace him.

let me know what you guys think?(Eds regulars and newbies)

Shappy

{Ed019's Note - I think its certainly possible. I don't think we have much of a chance of getting Wilshere though but I would be delighted if we went for either of the other two.}

I just can't believe so many people are talking about nani being sold or px'd. What's the matter with you lot!!

He was arguably (sp?) our best player last year and was our best midfielder, hands down! I could be wrong but I'm also sure he had most assists in the PL. Put that with his goals and he had an amazing season!

Albeit he has not progressed as fast as some people may have liked do you not think your letting the fast progression of ronaldo cloud you judgement?? Ronaldo was a one off and deep down we all know that. He's gone, helped us win trophies ( sometimes single handedly) and made us a lot of money. We need to move on and realises not every player will reach that ability.

Since stepping out of ronaldos shadow nani has come on leaps and bounds. Yes he cam be terribly inconsistent, but can still come on top with he stats, they speak volumes. He has a spark that none of our wide players have and we need to hold on to that!

And for all those having comparisons to young and those who are wanting him out to recoup money for budgets you need your heads testing!?!

The thing with nani is he's exciting and plays attractive attacking football, the united way. He still ha growing up to do and I for one won't give up on him and don't see why so many of you guys are....

this with the rotation provided by the twins and Park, also the use of Morrision, Pogba, Cleverly and Welbeck would be very good.

I would much rather see the money being spent on a world class playmaker like sneijder or Modric.

walter smith ex gers boss has asked sir alex ferguson if he can help gers new boss ally mccoist and loan out a few of the 2nd team
(gibson evans obertan bebe)
_________________________________________________

This doesn't make sense considering B b has been loaned to Besiktas and Gibson is likely to sign permanently for Sunderland. I have also heard a few rumours about Obertan possibly returning to France with Lille as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Gervinho. SAF has found the perfect replacement for Giggs. Lewis Holtby a now German player who could have represented England but Capello didnt pick him up early enough. Anyways SAF has decided to sign this promising youngster from Shalke 04 starting with a £16m bid.

Hi ed, if rossi was sold to barca would we get any portion of his fee or no? Also how much would shaqiri go for and are we looking likely to sign any young brazilians by any chance, theres a lot of promising talent coming out of brazil?

MUFC Till I Die

{Ed019's Note - There's no way of knowing if there is such a clause in Rossi's contract at the moment, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was one though considering he went for a low price.

I've heard figures around the 10-12 million mark being mentioned for Shaquiri and in my opinion that seems pretty accurate. Basel probably aren't in any position financially to hold out for much more.

United have a deal with Desportivo Brasil allowing them to have first choice on some of the top Brazillian talents for a nominal fee. At the moment Rafael Leao was on loan at united and played for the under 18's last year, not sure if he will sign this year. Another called Gladstony who is online at FC Twente in Holland this season and supposedly will eventually join up with United. Along with those there are 3 others who were spotted in Old Trafford along with the 2 I've already mentioned, they are too young to move outside of Brazil though so we won't see them for at least another year or two if they do end up making the move.

Here is the link to a Daily Mail article on the link up between United and Desportivo Brasil and also info on the 5 Brazillians.

Everyone rightly talking about signing 1 or 2 midfielders but appears nobody thinks we should sign a world class striker. Rooney is our first choice and will play majority of games, berbie to me blows hot and cold too often and unreliable although he was joint scorer last year.( and i still think SAF will sell him after his departure at Champions league final. Owen is just merely cover and that leaves hernandez. He looks amazing and will play alot of games for us next season although highly rated i still believe he is developing and to challenge next year with barca etc i think we need a proven striker. If rooney gets injured for two three months were in trouble.

With nani now confirmed staying not only will we have blistering speed up front but a sqaud with a great amount of wingers for rotation, although young is clearly not a worldbeater we now have so many options to tear teams apart all season. Roll on september and a creative midfielder (if we had ozil this team could stand up to any)
georgethebest

George

Nani is not "confirmed" as staying. He said he wants to stay which is completely different.
For me SAF has made a statement with Young so I cant see where Nani fits no matter how many team diagrams people draw.
When SAF says he is staying and he says it on 1st Sept then maybe.

Lets all be honest, surely Sir Alex realises that Nani is way better playing on the right than on the left.Let Ashley Young, Park, giggs on occasion battle it out on the left while Nani and Valencia do battle on the right but occasionally rotate evrybody around. As for Europe, believe it or not, Nani will definitely be our most important player along with Rooney for his excellence and Young for his setpiece speciality.

although i understand sir alex does like to bring in players proven in the prem eg valencia berbatov carrick, and dont get me wrong young is a quality player but with park nani and valencia did we really need this player? Everyone is concerned with a creative midfielder but shouldnt we also be looking at a holding midfielder also, which its unlikely well sign both as weve gone past the 50m barrier with the imminet arrival of de gea. also in regards to people stateing we are going to be playing a midfield diamond do you really think that is qhat fergie has in mind with 3 woingers nani valencia and young who enjoy playing getting chalk on thier boots ?

I cant wait to see young play personaly, think his link up play with rooney will be outstanding and he will supply the pea with many goals.

Nani is getting a lot of stick on here about being greedy, but wasnt he one of our top play makers last season with most assists?

All i see within this team is lots more goals, i am also thinking we will see a much better wayne infront of goal as he will get more supply.

also ED, how do you choose between banter and rumour because i would like to see peoples feedback all the time, not just agree and disagree?

1redarmy

{Ed019's Note - Well really its up to each individual ed so there isn't really a definitive explanation. people can moan about transfer fees as much as they like but while city&chelsea&madrid about it aint gona change you either go with it&get the best players or you dont, the fergie no value in the market for last 2 years to cover having no cash,
at least united finally seem to have woken up&stopped wasting time&getting deals done quicker,
benzema, villa, silva&even sanchez for 2 years utd dithered over making a move&finally tried when too late when madrid, barca, city had done deals.
as for nani think him&berba could yet be used as bait in tryin to get certain players, nani had good season but how many times was wazza losing the plot over running 60 yards to get in the box in space for nani to keep ball cut inside and blast over the bar!

which club in the world will take these players and pay their huge ridiculous salaries?
which player (since they are all clearly mercenaries) would want to take a pay cut to join another team?
ngiak guesses none on both questions
so they are stuck with a huge wage bill, with players who do not want to take a pay cut and no other club able to afford these players' wages.

Red army it was a decent post. I haven't reloaded the page so I don't know the responses. but my own is this. Over the last ten years i've seen our team slowly edge its way up in the european scene. We have earned the right to dream. Obsession or determination a better word got us were we are. It worried me though. When I saw alex crestfallen after the last game. But where exactly do we aim for if not to beat the best? almost broke the man but its also taken us this far why not run with it? Its looking like the only way they will beaten is when they grow old but why not still dream. How much respect for a man in a boxing match who is almost beaten that he gets back up? I know i know it can almost seem pathetic also but i'd rather the never say die attitude than to bow our heads and accept defeat in the bigger picture. Its why i'm proud to be a man united fan. He accepted defeat with humility but it doesn't mean we concede and settle for less. I'm sure alex isn't entirely focussed on barce in all his workings more on how to build a great team. But saying that again i say we earned the right to challenge it. No point taking a step back. Defeat to barce won't make me forget all that's been achieved and again with pride that the club can dust its self of and go again is a mark of the club and its history. I'm convinced with the right components that team is beatable. And if not. Maybe after we will be the team to beat. My thoughts is this. A three year plan to build another great team is in process. Around the time pogba is in contention. And as great as the 09 team was ronaldo wasn't all that consistent in big games and we missed fletch in both which i concede is a little bit of an excuse and the chica rooney partnership is still fresh so that can account. The twins are new were missing a dm. The reason i say this. Is that when you know what was wrong there is hope because you can rectify it. I see no reason not to dream and no reason why we shouldn't be aiming for the top. After all we've been through over twenty years of alex. Constantine Red

I suspect that, should Morrison be give a greater role next season, that we wouldnt need to go out and spend big money on an attacking midfielder. Yes he is only 18 but so was Rooney when we spent £23million on him. Maybe Morrison being given a central role next season is the answer? Sure it would be a gamble but more of a gamble than spending vast amounts on a foreign talent? Any thoughts would be welcome.

to be honest if udinese want 44mllion for sanchez, then they can h**k off. If he's that much there's no point anyone being linked. Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo is quoted as saying in The Sun: Is £44m too much? No, it does not seem enough.

"I have no doubt that if he stayed with us for another year he would be worth even more than that.

"He's the best player of his generation.

"He is like Cristiano Ronaldo when he was 22.

"We know when we have a diamond - Alexis Sanchez is one."

Thought messi was the best of his generation, anyway he's not worth 44million he's just a mercenary who will probably end up at city for 700,000 a week.

A lot of people are saying that players are over-priced in today's market. While I agree that may well be the case, it is something that we will simply have to live with. I feel that we need to step up to the mark when it comes to transfers. For example, if we really want Sanchez, and if Pozzo wants 44m, then we need to show our hand and sign him.

Ther is no point using the excuse of no value in the market all the time. If we stand still, we will simply be left behind and miss out on these young stars. Think of it this way, if we sign Sanchez for approx 35-40m and sell Nani for 25-30m, is that not good business? That's basically signing Sanchez for 10-15m. If Berbatov is offloaded, that recoups another 15m. After that, we can concentrate on that midfield signing.

G.A.G.U.S

I completely agree, and I blame Fergie to some degree for this inflated market, he set the benchmark by selling Ronnie for £80m. United dont sign superstars, we make them then sell them to Madrid. So I am not expecting any "marquee" signing this summer. I think Carrick started to come good end of last season so might have convinced SAF to rethink.

We are buying too many wingers because we can use them as right back and left back if we had to use them.

And we can get rid if Brown, Gibson, O'shea (highly unlikely though).

And still go for sneijder and his wages would nt be an issue.

The 11 players are-liverpool fc the masters of european football would be the best bet we would beat them quicker than utd utd go head to head with them trying to play their game you need a better game plan against them oh and a bit of luck lfc {Ed004's Note - I thought I had heard everything on this site untill I read this post. You really think Liverpool could beat Barcelona???}""""
dear mr lfc
ngiak applauds you
you have just posted the banter post of the season!
well done...
only problem is...
which has always been your problem, and mr bob the red's problem
is that all your "facts" are not based on any hard evidence
the only fact is that man united have been in 3 euro finals the last 4 years and have just won OUR 19th championship, breaking the record
we tried for another champions league FINAL THIS YEAR but fell short
and we are already busy with our re-development
not sure what statistics/evidence you have to bring up for you "beating barca"
if, will, could, should, maybe, soon, next year etc just does not cut it, dear friend
good try, you got everyone up in arms...AGAIN!
gan
you should also realise that you should, may have to, if, could, would, probably, sometime in the future etc have to actually have the right to play barca to actually, probably, maybe, sometimes, next year, would, could, should, if, in theory beat them

From hearing that udinese want 44m for sanchez all i can say is they are a bunch of (bad language). They set their valuation at around 30m, which the clubs meet only for them to add another 14m to that valuation!

Sir Alex is planning to play Valencia at right back with Nani on the right wing. He sees this as the best attacking formation and was tried out in a few matches last season. Ashley Young will play left wing.

Barcelona have had a bid of 27 million for Cesc Fabregas turned down by Aresnal.....Should United not even tempt Arsenal and Fabregas with a bid of say 35 million Ed? Would probably be very unlikely but would definitely be a solution to our midfield problem {Ed004's Note - He would be a brilliant signing but is very injury prone}

Hi, firstly i was wondering if gibson, brown and oshea are definitely leaving.

If this is correct then does anyone know of any interest in right backs because after neville oshea and brown go we will only have rafael as a recognised right back, maybe fabio but i see him as evras backup and future replacement

so can anybody shed sum light on this, ed?

The latter part of last season Fabio played at RB. So i think we are well covered there to be honest.

Iturbe could be a United player in a couple season's time. Porto & United have agreed to a deal that will see him end up at OT. Of course Mendes is involved in the deal and it's a good way to make sure Iturbe will get a work permit in the near future.

Park never said he was leaving, he said he has perhaps two more years of top quality football left in him, he says he will not retire at United. So what he is saying is he will be at United until he feels his spark has gone, then he will leave United and retire with another club. Cleverley is Park's long-term replacement.

I really hope this gets posted because i feel that it is a point most of us are failing to see.

Everyone is talking about this gap between us and barca and saying we need someone special to join but the fact is they beat one of our most special sides ever, with one of our best players of all time.

in 2009 they destroyed us in the same way they did this time, execpt in 2009 we had rooney, ronaldo and tevez upfront, a combination that blew teams away.

so my point is will anyone be good enough to halt the barca machine? or do we just have to wait until xavi and iniesta finally hang up their boots?

So next time you all say we need a CM worth 30+ million just think, we had a player worth 80 mil and it still wasnt enough.

we have to catch them on a bad day, or has anyone thought we may not even face them next year?

lets not get obsessed with beating them. It will be like city with us.

Do the eds feel that we will sign two keepers in this window to replace the retiring VDS and the likely free departure of Kucsczak. Not sure I would be comfortable wit De Gea, Lindegaard and Amos as my three keepers for next season. Your opinion please guys

So no scholes replacement then?joeyored"""
dear mr joeyored
there is no one n this planet who could replace scholes
we just have to move on
he was not used much last season anyway
we have mostly adapted to life without him
and the team will adapt to a style that the current batch of players will excel in
sir alex is getting a stronger, fitter, more aggressive and younger team
thats how we will play
faster and pressing higher up the field
we need a CM, to complete the picture
ngiak hopes its modric, but anyone sir alex chooses will do just fine
time will tell

Now I'm not a UTD fan who expects us to sign all the top players for top money, and I am happy with the squad we have. Add to that this summers signings so far, and we have obviously improved. I believe we had the quality to win the league again without those signings (obviously our game would have to be raised to finish on a higher points total, as 80 odd won't win it again next year). I think the depth in the squad will mean a great run in all domestic competions.
The issue I'm struggling with is, we all know we have won the CL as many times as we 'should' have... do people think we now have/nearly have the quality to go toe to toe with Barca? I don't think our 1st team still quite can. I specify Barca as they always seem to be in the CL final, or thereabouts....
We have a great team, great squad, but still lack something special.....

I notice people posting about Berba and how he was treated badly (champs lge final) and that he was topscorer and a great player and we will regret selling him (if we do)

Well I have said before how inconsistent he is and when you look at his stats from last season it makes interesting reading.

Appearances 41 Goals 20. (very good)

However he scored all them goals in just 11 games !!
That means in 30 games last season he failed to score.
He also scored no goals in Champs Lge despite what some people might think starting 6 games.
His tally at the end of January was 17.
In total he scored 4 away goals.

So what can we take from this ???
Well he is no good in europe not great away from home and goes long stretches without scoring the guy is too inconsistent and I think SAF will cash in on him.

This page is getting a bit boring now , the same names have just kept on appearing over the past 1-2 months.I have a feeling Utd are being sneaky and wont sign any of the obvious names.
Alan Pardew."""
dear mr alan pardew
your name seems to ring a bell... ngiak is not sure wheregive him a few days to sort that out
how about telling us who will leave
de laet and bebe are out
joshua king is on his way
oshea, brown and gibson are next (ngiak cant believe his luck but time will tell)
a sneaky suspicion that nani and berbatov are hanging by a thread... like most here ngiak suspects that they will be used to reduce the price of potential big money buys
we now have two fantastic right wingers, and if nani is "sold" it means we have no one on the left
park and cleverley and the occasional giggs?
or a surprise capture of sanchez or hazard?
another sneaky feeling is that evra may not stay for long....

My mate has just seen bastian schwiensteigger walking past trophy room at OT with 2 men in suits. Hope this is true. Him and Wesley Sneijder would be awesome midfield pairing. {Ed002's Note - I am always intrigued by these "two men in suits". I notice they turn up at Anfield a lot - escorting the likes of Ganso and Pastore in and out of the canteen. Do you think they are the same two men?}

If they are in black suits it's the MIB , maybe we are signing an alien

Fergie told the team at the end of the year he was planning on being busy this window, that he wanted 'best young talent' available, so expect bids for up and comers that can be developed rather than the 'star' players.
Two more young signings to go with De gea, Jones and Young.

with the signings we have already bought i feel we are going to be successful for a long while now.

yes they are not the signings some reds want to see but they are young, english and very talented for half the price of their foreign counterparts.

They have added depth to united, something we have always been famous for, and they have kept our squads age down, meaning we will continue to develope as a team.

we already have subs that want to play for us, which imo is important, and we have a very hungry and talented youth set up which is being strengthend with those italian boys.

i honestly believe we are set for the top for many many years, beyond xavi and inesta and co.

Valencia is twice the player that nani will ever be..he is a much harder worker, has lightning pace an made an immediate impact when e came back 4rm injury this season..nani started d season well but got consistantly worse as the season progressed

now we got phil jones to fill in a CB or CDM position and ashley young to play on the left wing i think SAF needs to sell some faces like berbatov, nani, gibson, brown, obertan, oshea, kszacak and put some of the clubs funds on 3 more great players!!
i think that SAF need to bring in a central midfielder which plays like scholes..a forward which can also play as a attacking midfielder..a striker which will work harder then berbatov and alot younger.
we need to look at a center midfielder such as modric or pastore..either one of these 2 would be a great signing at OT they would perform so well with the current squad
the forward/attacking midfeilder we need should be sanchez or hazard or mata..any of these players would be a great signing because they are young, talented and skillful. were looking at 25-30 million to buy any one of these players.
the strikers we need to replace berbatov should be benzema or higuain.. these 2 players would be amazing goal scorer and would work very hard for the team. these might be easier to buy then any other strikers because madrid are bringing in more strikers so easy access to them.

Really excited about the new signings, I include de gea in that as anyone with half a brain knows he is coming, keep seeing negative posts about young, can't understand it, he has a great assist rate, plays lots of games, good f/k and corner kicks, he makes our squad stronger and I believe he will become a great player at OT, can't wait for the tour now, I also believe we will sign 1 maybe 2 more players before the end of the window.
