Hi Guys

With Falcao going back to Monaco does that mean we will be signing a striker and if so who do you think it will be.Personally I would like to see Thomas Muller or Luciano Vietto.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'd still love to see Higuain or Lewandowski at Old Trafford.}

25 May 2015 00:54:42
Being realistic, I'd go for Berahino or Benteke. I think they can shine with us. What do the Eds think about them?

Agree0 Disagree4

25 May 2015 06:18:09
Benzema would be ideal and also Cavani would be a great signing. Then i would lean towards Benteke and berahino who I am told we have an interest in.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2015 10:00:01
i think berahino is going to be a very good player.
not sure he suites our style tho

Me too and i know everyone is going on about Kane at the moment but this boy in a couple of years might be the best of the lot in England.

He is quick, technically very good and much better finisher even better than sterling if you ask me and in a better team with better players around him might be a star.

Agree0 Disagree0

ive made the same point before , kane looks to me to be a player who has had one of them season when everything he touched went right.
but when you look at his game as a whole i'm not sure which aspects are or could be top class .
however i really hope he kicks on.

berahino imo has all the tools , if he sorts out his attitude i think potentially he could be very good

Big Al,

If you are still around, I couldn't help myself but I just had to use the search function to dig up an old post from last summer. The following is just part of a thread about your lot not going to miss Suarez this season.

Just thought I might be able to redeem myself a little on the prediction front seeing as I did so badly in AJH's prediction competition.

I believe I did a little better in my predictions for Liverpool's season.

I managed to find the thread by searching for the word "pitiful".

Read it and weep Big Al :)

Indian Buzzer,
You seem to have misinterpreted my post. When I said "oh, how he will be missed", I meant by the population in general, not by LFC. The sooner that buck-toothed rodent leaves these shores the better. Suarez is a very talented footballer, but as a sportsman and human being, he is a vile individual.
As for hoping LFC slide down the league next season, I honestly couldn't care less. My sole interest lies in MUFC. If I had wanted to wind up some scousers, I would have posted on the Liverpool page. To me, LFC are irrelevant. I don't need to hope you "slide down the table". You will achieve al on your own.
If you think the potential loss of Suarez will not make LFC a significantly weeker team, you are kidding yourselves. You had a very good season last time round, and deserve all the plaudits you received, but Luis Suarez was the main reason behind that. It does not matter who you sign to replace him, you will be worse off without him.
Like I said, I have no interest in LFC. But seeing as you enjoy the United page so much, I will do a "Sydney!" and make some predictions for LFC next season.

1. You will score less league goals next season.
2. You will win less league games next season.
3. You will amass less league points next season.
4. You will finish behind City and Chelsea next season.
5. You will also finish behind United next season.
6. Taking into account 4 and 5, you will not qualify for UCL the following season, unless you win it next year.
7. That ain't happening either.

On a more positive note, despite still not winning a trophy, Brendan Rogers will still have the brightest, whitest teeth in English football :)

Betty I think you need to read that post by myself again unfortunately . Your post was based on predictioN which is a forecast, guess.so fundamentally I was correct in my post. Politics answer

I won't continue to be a prick in the rest of the post as a treat betty seeing as I'm away all summer . Liverpool fc as you predicted' rightly were actually worse however. We have served up the worst dross all season. I could write a book on the changes needed but right now the buck has been like all season down to Rodgers.
As a Liverpoolfan I get used to the shambles but I support the club like every other sucker. Have a pleasant summer betty. I forgot de geas post card in Madrid but I'll send you a selfie instead ;)

You claim to be correct on the grounds of that being a "politics" answer? Jeez mate that really in clutching at straws. Ed Millibands would have been embarrassed with that one.

Enjoy your summer off mate. Our judicial system really is getting lax if they let you serve your sentence abroad. Bloody doing your community service in Spain is taking the p**s.

Anyway , I'm off to Disneyland Paris in the morning. I am quite relieved really. My Mrs came home earlier and was dead chuffed because she bought our little one a Mickey Mouse outfit for £15.00.
I nearly had a panic attack because I thought she meant she has bought Liverpool FC.

reports we've decided that falcao can leave. Gutted it didn't work out for him every time he came on the pitch I always expected a bit of something special from him. I was probably one of a minority and held hope he'd get a chance next season and lead the line as he once did better than anyone. Unfortunately for us and him he's never got the pre injury form. I wish him well and hope he gets back to where he was as a player

Why not United take Xavi on 1 year contract or loan(if he signed for another club)?
He mastered the possession football we play now. He is definitely not in his prime anymore but the position he plays needs less of pace and he can unlock any defense with proper shielding around him. With Herrera playing Iniesta role, Carrick playing Busquets role, Xavi playing his role, Depay and Bale on either wings, Rooney on top. A mix of energy and experience, two pass masters in Carrick and Xavi. LVG philosophy can really start ticking.
Schweinstiger in place of Xavi may not be bad either, if he is attainable then I take him over Xavi.

With Valencia and Rafael both will be shown the door, we need to find two RBs one of very high quality and other as a backup. I don't recall any names of quality rightbacks at the moment.
Dani alves a possibility? he is a backup, nothing more than that. Clyne? Even ****htoffside not linking him United for the past two weeks.Evans will be shown the door, for Nani door shutdown permanently, cannot enter inside. Iam still feeling mightily relieved on cleverly exiting the club.

24 May 2015 23:38:10
Seriously comparing Carrick and Herrera to Iniesta and busquets wow.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 May 2015 04:26:46
Few seasons ago Barcelona players themselves had said Carrick is one of the few United players who can get in their team. There is nothing wrong comparing him with Busquets.

Valencia is a good backup for preserving a 2-0 lead or something during last 10 minutes like that or when a important player need to be rested in the final few minutes of a game with one eye on big games ahead.
He may be played as a RB this season, but his crosses are bad and and his move is easily predictable. Delivering good crosses is what a good RB or a RW normally do.

For next season I don't like the idea of him and young on either wings for even half an hour from kickoff even when our first choice wingers are not available.

25 May 2015 14:44:58

Well the season has finished and I can honestly say I'm still curious about LVG as I was after the first game. At times this season, notably the Liverpool and city games, we've looked brilliant. What has confused me most of all is the signing of Di Maria. For a manager who wants to play keep ball, spending the British record fee for a player that runs with the ball and is likely to lose possession quite a few times in a match is beyond me.
I really hope he has a clear out of the deadwood and brings in the right players this summer. For me, top money should be payed for the likes of Gundogan, Otamendi and a truly world class forward. Keeping DDG has got to be a priority too. Get a good solid spine to this team. There's too many average at best players at the moment.

Banter please Ed

So the season draws to a close and I have collated all the results of the season start predictions. To remind you, 100 of you named your top 6 (in order) and also which 3 teams would go down (any order).

Before I get to the results a few special mentions:

Newcastle didn’t finish 6th as MPez predicted (sorry mate), 19 of us had Southampton going down and 19 of us had Swansea going down, whilst Everton were the biggest disappointments as many of us had them in our top 6. Nobody got the top6 in the correct order and nobody predicted the 3 teams to go down correctly.

And so to the results which I have ranked by awarding points as follows:

Champions - 7 points
Top 6 (in right place) - 4 points
Top 6 (not in right place) - 2 points
Bottom 3 - 1 point for each

So, if you got the top 6 in the correct order and the correct bottom 3, the maximum score you could achieve is 30 (1@7, 5@4, 3@1).

I won’t list all 100 but starting in reverse order I’ll pick out a few regulars. The lowest score achieved was 11 which was achieved by 10 different posters including Beast, DodgyBanter, betty swollocks and REDFAITH. Jred and GDS both scored 13, I managed a magnificent 14, GCU 17, Shappy, Mumbai Boy and Chris achieved 18. Ken and G.A.G.U.S scored 19, Mrs Beasts scored 20 along with Fresh, No Midfield scored 21 and Sydney scored 22. Strebor83 scored 23 which was the second highest score.

Which brings us to the winners. The highest score was 24 and was achieved by 4 posters: Gilly, johndenton, deaddobbin, and NouCamp99 (or StevieK as he was then). There is no way to split them. Of these 4, Gilly, deaddobbin and Noucamp got the top 4 right with Liverpool and Spurs in the wrong positions but all 3 only got 1 of the bottom 3 right. johndenton got 4 of the top 6 in the right places and again just 1 of the bottom 3.

So well done to everyone for contributing, sorry if I haven’t mentioned you, I’ll see if there is an easier way to do this for next year so that everyone has access via a Google doc and can keep track themselves.

More importantly is Rooney leaving? Despite needing quality all over the park he's uniteds achilles heal. He simply has no position has no idea what he's doing next and neither does anyone else. When I look at the league I can't see a team in the top 10 that would benefit from Rooney coming in and fucking up their style by interfering all over the place. Been a great servant but fergy knew when his value was up. Its now down. On a more positive note we were shyte today but I like lvgs philosophy a lot. Whens the next match.?

"wayne is a very good captain. I am very proud. I haven’t had any disappointments this year with him.
“He is very good in the dressing room. He is always an example of the training pitch and when we play in matches, he always fights until the end.

“Wayne has also played a lot of positions for me without ever complaining.

“I like multi-functional players and the team needs more players like him.

“I think that I made a very good decision with Wayne because have fought right until the end in all of our matches. The team spirit has been great.”

Dear ed002: with all these vegetables and potatoes, looks like we're in a bit of a stew!

Would guess that any malcontents would get short shrift from the regulars on here who all seem pretty decent and linguistically sensitive to the vagaries of all the kind Eds who give up their time to feed our need for inside info.

Consequently, as I reckon any vegetables would get puréed pretty quickly, is your vacation from the United kitchen permanent or temporary? Are there any carrots that might tempt you back, or can we do anything to ap-peas you?

To be fair he's not had any choice this year and will always back his own decisions and the captain he appointed. The question is if we get a top striker and a quality specialist midfielder will Rooney keep either out. That comment is for this season I suspect not next, we need to move on a fair bit next year.

i think your clutching a straws pal .

i don't see lvg buying a player to replace rooney.
i don't see lvg taking the armband of rooney either and as such he will start if fit.

but people have been going on about rooney leaving for 4 year now so who knows

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2015 22:31:39
Part dingle are you on drugs or something? how can you call rooney the only player that whether he play good or bad allways gives 100% our achilles heel? We don't want to get rid of him we need 11 of him!!he will play any position and I know he has had his problems with the club over the last few years but he loves united and you can see it.his biggest problem is that he will play anywhere and do all he can for the team could you imagine for instance rvp playing dcm or out on the wing I would bet my house he'd throw his toys out of the pram, where's as wazza just gets on with it he should be appriciated and get the recognition for once. It's clear the club and lvg loves him he's our captain, he will be our all time greatest goal scorer and he's closing in on a few other records too not just for us but England aswell. Give him a break

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2015 17:18:23
OK guys,

It's been a good season because our main objective was to rebuild again, we are now in the champions league which will lead to us buying quality players that would want to play for us in the champions league.

We need to replace few players with top quality, we now have given the whole year to van Gaal for him to get to know manChester United as well as the league.

He has been good but not great, he hasn't been outstanding but I never thought he would because he plays a different brand of football to the man utd are used to.

We need a striker as I don't think Rooney is enough to challenge for titles next year.

I'd even give Falcao another year but it will be too much of a risk and those that are close to him (man utd coaches) will know better.

Defenders; we need a top cb like Otamendi or Hummels. We can't be relying on Jones as he is unreliable in terms of getting injured and being unfit.

If I was the manager I'd go for benzema or bale to fill in the goals for next year. We will seriously struggle for goals next year if we don't sort out our attack which looks weaker then our defence.

It's funny how we all thought our defence was wack this year but it has turned out to be our attack that has let us down a lot.

I still believe we have had a good year to turn things around and be in 4th place, now we need to add Some quality and move forward .

Next year anything less then a title challenge and 2nd or 3rd position should be bare minimum .

We won't win next year but we will get used to van Gaal style and be a bit like chelsea of 2013/14 season . Then the following season we will win like chelsea.

do you think we will finish above them 3 next season and if so why

Agree1 Disagree0

24 May 2015 18:01:32
I think Falcao should be kept.
His movement is fantastic. Its been said here a few times i agree its our defence which is limiting forward play. The risky ball.
Once the defence is shored up wecan hopefully play without the reins on.
Also i think in bringing Depay in and perhaps another fast paced winger with skill (bale)
De Maria will be less marked up, Atm when playing he is our only player who can create from nothing. So is marked up.
At Real he wasnt the top dog so was allowed to go wandering.

Another pacey winger
Carrick replacement schweinsteiger or Matuidi
Arda Turan
Keep Falcao

24 May 2015 17:14:03
Has anyone seen the pictures of the look van Gaal have Di Maria when he walked off? I might be wrong but Di Maria did not seen badly hurt. There are a lot on here who thinks he will come good next season, I can't see it. He's so weak, and has no balls about him. I'm very disappointed in him today, he just looked like he couldn't care. Will he be here next season? Personally I think if we get an offer around the 40 million mark then we will accept it!

We would take a few more risks! In my opinion, there is a lot of players who aren't good enough to be regular starters;
Valencia, rojo, Jones, smalling, Evans, blind, young, fellaini, Rvp.

Obviously I wouldn't get rid of them all as a few would make good squad players but none of them should be regular starters for a team who should be challenging for the title.

Have to agree first time I've been happy for the season to end, for me more disappointing than last season. We all expected Moyes to be. Train wreck but with the appointment of LVG and money spent I honestly felt that at least we would play a good standard of football and be entertaining to watch. Unfortunately we have been predictable and painful to watch for the majority of the season. LVG has the summer to sort this out now hopefully with a full transfer window and pre season and ECL we can take the requires steps to get us back to where we belong. Most important signings for me would be a CB that can pass a ball and play football everyone if our CB are just old fashioned blockers not a decent pass between them. Whilst we need at least a couple of midfielders I think we need a striker that just does that. We need our version of Aguero or Costa, far too often rooney drops to deep and we have no one running behind the back 4. Hioe we get our transfers done quick and get a settled squad ready to hit the grounded running come August. Just seen Liverpools half time score so things are not as good as we all wanted this season they could be a lot worse.

Agree1 Disagree1

24 May 2015 16:02:18
Yeah we just have so few options going forward, it has been the same all season. 6 Hull players picking up Rooney (who has done nothing when he gets it again) and one runner (normally Young), no wonder it keeps going backwards. Blind is playing as a virtual sweeper half the time!

Ball playing CB stops the need for having to sacrifice a midfielder so deep, we need more options going forward it's so boring again. I watched Jones give it away 3 times in 30 seconds, it would be funny if it was another team.

This game should be easy with hull having to push on for a win, this is where our insistence on retention on the half way line should be perfect for us. Wouldn't mind a hill win love Brucie and this game does nothing for us in the grand scheme of things. This game shows why we still need about 6 players to compete for any chance of a trophy next year.

LVG is looking for a number '6' role player for the club? Jordy Clasie is a prime example, but his frame size is the only minus against him for the prem league? You think we could bulk him up abit like De Gea?

Realistically, who do you see in goal for us next season? I'd like to think it's Bernd Leno or Anthony Lopes? I love to say Valdes, in the last game even though it was for a few minutes he went down far too early, and I shouldn't judge him for that one mistake but really he should of known? Maybe I'm being too harsh?

I got a belief that when United jets off for pre-season it will be along with all the new signings onboard.

Evans, Blackett linked with Everton.
Antonio Valencia linked with Valencia.
United linked with Otamendi.

I like the way LVG is making Unbalanced squad into a more balanced one.

It is just not rebuilding United, it is clearing the debris before every rebuilding phase. If David moyes was ruthless in clearing deadwoods we might have finished better this season.

Is it just me or would anyone of the fellow posters be sad if we let either or both of Chicharito and Rafael leave.
I really like Rafael as a fullback and he has generally performed very well whenever he has played there. He's had some brilliant games which includes keeping a in form Bale out of the game and some very rash decisions that have led to red cards. Attacking wise he is one of the top RBs in the Premier League and defensively he is sound. His rashness improved under Moyes and fergies last year. Only thing lacking is his fitness, but he is good enough to play at least 20-25 games a season.
We are certain to sign a rb, and having him as the second right back would be better than having to see clueless Valencia be there. If we somehow sign Dani Alves, he could become a role model for Rafael, with being very similar players. I won't want Rafael to leave, I'd rather sell Valencia.
Hernandez, he came on cheap, he sat on the bench silently without criticising, and he has performed well whenever he has played. He is a nightmare to Chelsea. And if we are to lose both RVP and Falcao, it would be intelligent to have a goalscorer like Hernandez as backup who knows the league, and I believe if given a decent run, he has bags of goals with him. His linkup play is awful but he is a poacher and he could still be a vital cog in our squad.
If we were to sign a good CM and another winger, Hernandez will have plenty of service to score and he will score.
If I were a manager I'd keep both Rafael and Hernandez only for the reason that they are quality players and have been true servants to us.

I like Chicharito , works hard and seems to have a good attitude but he's never going to be first choice at United . At this stage in his career he needs to go somewhere he's going to play regularly .
As for Rafael he has talent but way too headless for me , an accident waiting to happen every game and very injury prone

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2015 13:36:01
I agree Rafael is injury prone, but isn't Phil Jones injury prone?

I don't think Rafael is an accident waiting to happen, Valencia is more of an accident waiting to happen at RB, I can't think what Valencia brings to the team, all he has is pace and a bit of physicality. He'll run with the ball till the opposition half, either pass it infield, or put in a very bad cross. Won't you rather see a natural RB there?
Rafael with all his rashness, is a very good footballer who is quick, has better crossing and has a left foot that can play football.
For a second choice RB, he is quality.

Chicharito won't ever be first choice, I agree, but in all fairness I'd have him as backup than see Danny Ings don the shirt.
Chicharito in another PL club where he's a regular starter scores 20 goals each season.

I think we'll regret letting them go, even more if they go a PL club.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 May 2015 13:40:12
Hernandez isn't happy to be a sub striker, and hasn't developed a rounded game. He has no future here and deserves a move to a club where he will play every week.

Rafael is too injury prone to have any role in the squad. He has looked promising at times over the years, but you can't keep a player on the off chance he will one day stay fit and start to live up to his potential. There's a reason Valencia is first choice, and it isn't solely down to ability.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good summary that danny..

24 May 2015 14:00:36
It isn't always about what we want though is it? Hernandez is at the age where he doesn't want to be sat on the bench getting 15 minutes a game. He wants to be playing and needs to be playing regularly. Is he good enough to start? No. I'd be happy for him to be our 3rd or 4th choice striker off the bench but he won't be.

As for Rafa he's shown glimpses of being a good player for us but his injury record is woeful. Also he is very rash, he gets caught out of position regularly which results in him making rash late challenges. Always on edge when he plays. Time to move him on too.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2015 14:04:28
I agree for a club to move forward they have to get rid of players.
I seem to have a bit of a soft spot for them I reckon.
Stay or go, I'd be pleased both ways.
I agree about Hernandez, the guy is good enough to be a regular at a club that plays him every week.

I'm not a great fan of the Glazers but compared to Mike Ashley they're like angels from heaven. Is there anyone else out there who feels like relegation would be an appropriate reward for the way he runs that club? I never want us to lose, but would anyone be upset if Hull won today and Newcastle didn't?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

24 May 2015 11:48:41
He got the club making a profit, he signed his manager to a long term contract for stability. In business your number 1 priority is profit, profit enables you to build. They have been successful in the transfer market over the last 5-6 years but are easy targets for bigger clubs.

I think in the long term he's good for Newcastle, the alternative is load the club with debt win a couple of league cups then fall down the leagues.

Agree1 Disagree1

24 May 2015 12:49:59
What I would have wanted is not to have cared about Newcastle or hull's position and instead played all our fringe players.
Thorpe, Pearson etc.
It was the perfect opportunity but LVG wants to end on a high.
It would be a shame if neither of dimaria, januzaj, Wilson and Pereria don't start.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 May 2015 13:00:05
The thing about football is it's so much more than just making a profit, as important as financial viability is. I imagine the Newcastle fans will be much consoled that Ashley's making money if they go down to the Championship - and if they do who's to say they will come back quickly? On the other hand, I concede if they stay up, and Ashley invests some of the profits in buying players, rather than selling them, then your point may become valid. But you can only be a selling club for so long. I'm not sure they have anyone on their books left who can command a big transfer fee.

Who is the long term manager they appointed for stability? Are you referring to the one that looked at the way the club was being run and walked out, preferring an inherently smaller club with a board with bigger ambitions?

It's a fine balance, but maximizing distributions at the expense of performance over the longer term, can be as debilitating as excess debt.

I never believe what Daily Mail have to say but I think Gundogan might not come to Old Trafford. I'm still not sure how he would be after the injury and we definitely don't want another Hargreaves like situation.
Illaramendi is likely to leave Madrid and I think he could be a good replacement for Carrick. As of now I don't think we are interested in him and he wants a move to the Basque country. He is good in tackles and his passing and distribution are also quiet good. Real paid a good price for him and might want to get that money back.
