Good luck to Ryan Giggs. A true legend and great player, hope the years with sir Alex has rubbed off and he can end the season on a high.

ED 2 questions:

1. With Moyes gone do you think Vermijl, Zaha can hope to be part of the team next year?

2. If we play well in the last 4 games and produce good results while playing well do you think Giggs will be considered for the full time role?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Hopefully if vermjl is good enough he will provide cover for Rafael so we don't have to sign a rb and I don't think Zaha is good enough or has the right attitude so could be on his way out. Lastly on Giggs nope he won't be considered}

Hopefully whoever comes in is made aware United want Giggs and maybe others in some coaching role

Agree0 Disagree0

Zaha and Vermij not being in the team is not and nerve was a oyes thing. It is called not good enough and better already in the squad.

I think many here suffer from blaming moyes for everything and will be unpleasantly surprised by how brutal the next manager might be.

Cardif does not have a single good winger and scholar is an atack minded coach and he is still sitting on the bench there, if that does not give you guys a clue I am not sure what else does.

Agree0 Disagree0

Damn autospell LOL:)

Meant to say never a Moyes thing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully whoever comes in is allowed to choose their own coaching staff and given the money and time to do their job without interference

{Ed004's Note - Welcome to the site. Few pointers 1) never disagree with syd... 2).. Just don't disagree with him ;)..}

Ill keep that in mind ed 004 lol ;-)

Utd78, I disagree, you should not keep that in mind ;)

Haha wise advice ;)

Is it ok to disagree with Sydney if he's making predictions of where Manu and Liverpool might place at the end of the season? ;)

If Klopp is available(MAKE HIM AN OFFER HE CAN'T REFUSE) and give him 6 years, even more! Someone with experience to bring the stability and amazing football style with Youth development.
Things are pointing at Van Gaal. I think 3 years(extension depending on performance) contract would be enough seeing that he is already 62 and he will bring that stability and lay the foundation. Obvious plus point is his total football style and his experience. Good mentor for Giggs and Scholes. He is a slow starter and he will impose his footballing style.
He said he normally keeps an assistant from previous management which is good and I think it should be Giggsy and Scholesy. Any Big Club will try anything to retain their legends specially likes of Scholes and Giggs.

As far I am concern, having Giggs and Scholes as assistant is as important as having a new manager.

Another thing that annoys me is people saying we should sign atleast 4 or 5 players. I for one only want 3 signing of 2 Solid CM and LB.

Manchester United first team would be without a single youth product from our academy. That would be really annoying. We need at the least Evans and Januzaj in our first team. Ideally 3 players in our first team should be from our youth product. Our core problem has been our CM since Keane and Scholes have left. A strong CM partnership creates and overall better team. Look at Arsenal, they downfall was because of their weakened CMs. Look at Liverpool, that annoying Gerrard has been their strength in attack and defence. Yaya and Fernandinho is stability and strength of City.
My ideal CM partnership would be Vidal and Fabregas, or Carvallo and Kroos.

Only thing is world cup finishes on 13th and our first pre season game is on 23rd. So does Van Gaal have enough time to get the transfers in more importantly off load the dead woods.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we only get 3 new players and get rid of the deadwood we're going to have a small squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have many players who deserve chance in likes of M Keane, Powell, Henriquez, Lindgard, Vermijl and Zaha. And I am sure some of people here will add even more youth likes of Wilson.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Samurai, your on a different planet if you think signing 2 CM and a LB will be enough to challenge for league and Europe. Our defence has been sjambok if this season. With Vidic and Rio gone we most defiantly need a CB, and a top class one at that to play along side Evans/Jones/Smalling, all 3 of whom are dodgy to say the least.

As for players from our youth system, if they aren't good enough they aren't good enough simple as that. You also realise Adnan has only been here 2 years, we signed him in 2011 from Anderlecht, he's hardly a product of our academy. Cleverly and welbeck are and look where that's got us,

As for zaha he isn't and will never been united standard! Stop living in the past as most do! We produced the class of 92, it was a one off and we won't see that number of players going on to success the same again. Never

There seem to be more and more people wanting Giggs to be the next manager, which although romantic, won't happen and rightly so. He isn't even nearly ready for the job that needs to be done. In my eyes, if Giggs wants to be manager in the future he needs to leave United this summer and find a club in Germany or Spain who will take a chance on him. Leave Scholes here to work with the next manager and maybe take Neville with him. Then 3+ years down the line when he has experience and we see how he has done, he could look at coming back and taking over with Scholes as his number 2. That is the only way I can see him being United manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brendan, I fully agree with you! Quite frankly I'm shi*ting myself at the prospect of it happening. I almost don't want 4 big wins just incase! We need a proven winner, with experience to get us back where we belong, and for me the only ones that fit that category are Jose, Pep, Ancelotti, Klopp, and LvG. As the rest are unavailable I hope we move quick to secure LvG. I can't wait to see the total football he could instil with 4/5 quality signings

Agree0 Disagree0

So he's not good enough to manage us, but a German or Spanish club will take a punt on him being successful in leagues he knows nothing about?! Never mind the language difficulties.

Why would he not be better with a championship, league 1 or 2 club?

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely the best thing would be for Giggs and Scholes to become the main coaches/assistants to the incoming manager. This way they will essentially learn the trade from a staff's point of view rather than as a player (trust me, its very different, players have team meetings and training, coaches have even more staff meetings and sessions with scouts, analysts etc).

If they were to go a lower league team, they would only get a very watered down version of this, however if they stay at United under the new manager, they can learn the trade at the highest level first hand!

If it is to be LvG, realistically he wouldn't be at the club for a period of over 5 years, which is plenty of time for Giggs and Scholes to pick up the fundamentals and prepare either for a future role.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has spent his whole career in England, in my eyes, he needs to experience football and a league in another country. Different footballing culture and ideas would help immensely. Of all the British managers who have spent there whole careers in British football, how many would you give the biggest job in football to? One, Rogers at Liverpool, I can't think of a single other.

I don't think him going to a lower league would help, he wouldn't be able to play the football he would like and we would expect. It would be experience but going abroad he could get that experience but also nurture his way of playing football better in a more technically superior league, even the Spanish 2nd division would be a much better standard of football than our Championship.

These are just my opinions, I just think if he wants the big job, he needs to leave and make his own way and find out how he wants his teams to play. Going abroad he could do that but with less focus on him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the way forward here would and will be that a top manager comes, I recon LvG, giggs can be his understudy for 3/4 years before possibly if it's right taking over having been mentored in the way Jose was before taking the step up. I personally think that's a good idea and that's what will likely happen. Also it's fact LvG likes to keep someone associated with the club along side him so Giggs fits the bill! I think this was one of Moyes major mistakes in getting rid of Rene

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be more than happy to see LvG bring Rene back too if he gets the job. Fellow Dutchman and friend, would be great to have him back.

By the looks of it with every manager ruling himself out, I think LVG is the only candidate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Conte

Agree0 Disagree0

He will never come. Juve, champions of Italy, Champions league and probably a big summer of Pogba out and retooling what are the issuing pieces to make the old lady a genuine contender in Europe.

I think we will have an issue if LVG comes in after the world cup and might be in for another bad start next year.

I just hope people don't think giggs is even remotely ready. Our last few games with the exception of southampton are some of the easiest games and are not an indication of anything. Nothing to play for but to make money on some juicy bets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Never say never GCU, I would be more inclined to believe a very clued up ed on this site.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't put it past the glazers to see it as another cheap option gamble if it saves them money and they think they can get away with it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Herbie

I i'd not dispute what Ed02 said as Conte being a target. I said he will not come.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see Hiddink or De Boer

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry I put my reply under the wrong post I was replying to having Giggs as long term manager. That's the problem with accessing the site via I phone missing letters and words out and scrolling down etc its hard work . Nevermind. Anyway I think Van Gaal may well be the only option in the end!

Harsh calling Kagawa a luxury player, he puts in a fair shift when the opposition have the ball, more so than Mata and certainly much more than Cantona or Berbatov ever did

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anyone see Berba's goal for Monaco the other day? Sublime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah class

Agree0 Disagree0

He did it so casually, think it was meant to be a cross but oh well ;P.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa is the fittest player at the club! Fact! As proven during club VO2max/endurance fitness testing. OK, he can't tackle but he is not a lazy player, so what do people base him not putting in a decent work rate?

So here we are guesstamation time again. If van Gaal is to become manager then how do people see things panning out?

Tactically its fascinating, he always plays attacking football and he likes to play with pace in the forward positions. It's also important for him to have players who can adapt to different situations during games. Personally I think formation wise he would look to play something that morphs between 4213 and 433 which seems to be his formation of choice.

The reason I feel he'll look to play with 3 up front is to add pace to our attack, neither Rooney nor RvP have pace to burn, so his attacking approach will require at least one player with pace who can run in behind thus forcing the opposition to sit deeper giving his team the space in the final third to impose themselves on the opposition.

So how does this effect the playing staff at our club? Well first and formost I think he will only play one of Rooney or RvP as a striker. Now personally I think he will go with RvP not because he's Dutch but because he keeps his position better thus making it easier to maintain the team shape and tactics and because he has better technique which is very important to van Gaal.

I think he will also prefer to play Mata in the No.10 role for similar reasons. The defence needs rebuilding regardless so I would expect to see at least a CB and a LB to come in regardless. Garay and Shaw look like the options the club want and I fully expect to see them come in. The RB spot is the interesting one, I think if Moyes was still in charge then a new RB would have been signed but with a new manager I think Rafael could get a stay of execution as the club need to spend money elsewhere. So I would expect to see us line up with Rafael, Jones, Garay and Shaw as our starting back line next season and that would be the same no matter who comes in as manager.

The midfield is where things get interesting, William Carvalho seems a certainty, and with van Gaal he has a habit of playing one deep midfielder who protects the back four and maintains the teams shape. Carvalho seems tailor made for this role. But its who he plays with him that will be interesting. I think he will play Mata as the most advanced midfielder which means he'll need a tactically flexible midfielder who can carry the ball forward from midfield and link Carvalho with Mata, this midfielder needs to be able to defend when needed while also offering a presence going forward. I think a surprise could come with Adam Lallana playing such a role, people forget he is a box to box midfielder as he has been used wider a lot this season. But he is key to Southampton in that he plays wider when he moves forward but when under pressure he drops deeper and infield slightly to make the team resemble a 433 type formation.

Now we move onto the front three, well RvP is most likely to play as the main striker. I could see van Gaal going for someone like Griezmann to play on the left with Welbeck on the right, I could then see him using Januzaj Lingard and Valencia as other options if he needed a more defensive set up or more creative wide options.

But a team that keeps the ball in the middle and final third of the pitch with players who have pace stretching and probing the opposition defence with a clinical striker in RvP and a creative force who can move the ball quickly ala Mata.

This is how I could see us lining up under van Gaal and all with players we have been strongly linked to in recent times. Garay, Shaw, Lallana, Carvalho and Griezmann. We may see another midfielder sign as well but that would give us a strong creative unit going forward who would be flexible and have pace and technical nous. A typical van Gaal side really.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I agree with most if what you have said except a few things. I reckon this how we would expect to line up however, I'd rather have Smalling in that back line, he is better in the air, he is more composed and he is better positionally compared to Jones. All Smalling needs to really work on IMO is his distribution. In midfield I don't think Lallana would be the right player for that role. Not only that but we would be charged a fortune to get him easily 25-30 mill and that would be far better going towards a creative midfielder. Fabregas is available this summer, though there are other alternatives Kroos, Herrera, Rakitic, Koke etc etc. lastly I agree it will be RVP as the striker though I would play Januzaj out right and another winger Griezman, Sanchez, Reus, Di Maria (one of them) that would leave us in a fantastic position}

Find it funny that Fabregas is now available after the big fiasco of him going back to Barca from Arsenal.

I wonder if with Martino certain to be replaced at the end of this season there is a chance Fabregas will become unavailable depending on the new managers plans?

Agree0 Disagree0

Id personally partner Evans with Garay. Think he is our best defender and has been badly missed a lot of this season. Would love Lallana, think he's a brilliant little player but can't see us getting him and Shaw.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mostly agree Shappy, it will be a 4-3-3 come 4-2-1-3. Mata behind a front three of Rooney, RVP and hopefully Reus. William Carvalho shielding the defence and Kroos or Fabregas as the deeper lying playmaker. At the back I hope Rafael can find some form again, maybe van der Wiel would be a good buy? Shaw as well. I would Garay at centre back or someone with EPL experience like Verthongen.

Agree0 Disagree0

As another point, I think a return to the 4-3-3 that we used in 07/08 is the way to go. We had Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo. Why not have Rooney, van Persie and Reus? In midfield we had Hargreaves, Carrick and Scholes. A midfield of W. Carvalho, Mata and Fabregas or Kroos would be every bit as good I think. It wouldn't be too difficult to make that team up.

Agree0 Disagree0

If its van gaal strootman depending on his injury could be a possibility I know van gaal rates him highly

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004, Fabregas would be ideal as would Kroos but its if we can get them.

Fresh, I don't think we'll target a RB this summer now. The issue with Rafael was with Moyes, with him gone and with us needing a LB CB at least one but preferably 2 CM's and a winger then it might be abit of a stretch to get a new RB too. So that could wait for another year, that will also give Janko and Varela a further year to develop.

As for Rooney I think he could move on this summer if a buyer can be found. If and it looks likely van Gaal becomes manager then I can't see where Rooney would fit into a van Gaal team. His teams rely a lot on technical ability and tactical awearness. That would rule Rooney out of a role as a No.9 or No.10 in van Gaal's team. As you've said he could be deployed wider but I don't think Rooney could or would want to play that role. With that in mind I think we could see him leave.

I expect to see the squad size reduced this summer especially if we miss out on the Europa league too. I can see a large cull with several youth players being promoted to fill any positions we are light in rather than sign loads of players.

I can see Lindegaard or Amos leaving, Rio, Vidic, Evra and possibly Buttner although he may be kept as with Evra leaving there will be no cover there.
Giggs will no longer have a playing role at the club, Cleverley or Carrick might be out the door too. Then I can see both Nani and Young going along with maybe Kagawa and Hernandez and possibly Rooney.

Thats as many as 13 leaving, I can only see us signing 5 maybe 6 at most. But then Michael Keane, Nick Powell, Jesse Lingard and James Wilson I think could be involved in the first team with possibly Pearson, Rothwell, Janko and Varela possibly getting the odd game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Who could be sell Rooney to though Shappy? I don't think he would move abroad as I'm not sure he could adapt to a new language etc his wages are way too big for most clubs in premiership and I don't think Chelsea or City would take him any more. That be said a summer of Garay, Shaw, Carvalho, Fabregas/Kroos, Sanchez/Reus/Griezman/Di Maria along with varela/Janko, Keane, Powell, Lingard and Wilson promoted with our deadwood clearing out would be fantastic under LvG. Also I think LvG would get the most out of Januzaj. I think he is a better right winger and he would be given the role Robben gets for Holland. Valencia as a backup. I'd keep Kagawa as this system will suit him best I'd love to keep Hernandez but feel he will be sold. I think a two man forward line of Hernandez and RVP would be a great back up/plan B}

There are a few options, Monaco and PSG are likely to be looking for a striker if Falcao and Cavani leave as expected this summer. City may still move for him as it would look like they are taking our best player off us. Chelsea appear to have moved on but if that deal hits a snag then they could come back in for Rooney if was available.

He might not want to move abroad but if his options are France or the bench then I think he could be persuaded.

I'd like to see Kagawa stay but I think he may want to leave unless he feels he will be first choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I'd love Monaco or psg to have a firm interest in him. Means we wouldn't have to play against him and we could push for a swap deal likes of moura, Rodriguez and Mourinho etc however it's very unlikely}

25 Apr 2014 13:36:55
Wasnt a huge fan of Garay before last night but he scored and produced a great performance to more than win over a few doubters including myself. Hope we haven't missed the boat on this one.

Wonder if LVG will look at Strootman if he does come in, already been linked with the club and isn't he Holland's captain? Hopefully we won't see the interest in Schneyjder rekindled

Believable0 Unbelievable0

RVP is captain, Strootman would be a class addition, unlikely though as he only just signed for Roma (my opinion).

Agree0 Disagree0

He was brilliant up until his injury, people are linking us with Ljaic who only just signed too, stranger things have happened

Agree0 Disagree0

RvP is captain, Strootman is vice captain.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's got an ACL injury, may be an option come January.

What does everyone think about the future of Fellaini at the club? I don't think he fits in and the kind of managers that are being mentioned, I don't think he will fit into their philosophy. I think we would like to sell.

Could be difficult to sell though with his wages.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't think his wages are that high RF. I think he will remain as a squad player, but I agree he doesn't look like a MU player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he'll stay for another year as a squad player then sold the following summer. We are short of numbers in midfield and I don't think the club would want to sell so soon after signing him.

There are strong rumours that we want to sign William Carvalho, I think him and Fellaini could rotate as a DM for a year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope that if Moyes is the decent, honest man he says he is, then when he is manager of a new club, he comes to United and pays £27 million to take his Failani to them.

Right lads. the big one. the only prediction that matters.

Does Giggsy walk out into OT in a tracksuit or suit?!

I'm going tracksuit myself.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Tracksuit}

Draped in the chosen one banner

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate to see managers in anything but a suit, it looks scruffy. But if he puts himself on the bench then I suppose he will have to be in a tracksuit. I wonder how many times he starts himself or brings himself on. I imagine he will start the last home game as it will likely be his last ever game for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Danny. yes mate, perhaps a parachute jump from a plane?;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive heard he will wear the kit he made his debut in ;)

RD

Agree0 Disagree0

Managers wear a suit, coaches wear tracksuits. What he wears will tell you a lot about his mentality.

I expect him to wear a tracksuit as I expect he'll name himself amoungst the subs.

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ive heard he will wear the kit he made his debut in ;)'

If I remember correctly the shorts were pretty short, they'll look like hot pants nowadays.

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon tracksuit!

im sure he still wants a goal to keep up his record of scoring in the PL seasons.

i reckon a cheeky substitute appearance could be on the cards!

100% a tracksuit, probably have the kit on underneath ;)

80's old school Manchester United track suit. A pair of suede gazelle's and if he's feeling really groovey then complete them with glow in the dark laces to complete the outfit.

If I were in Giggs position I'd bring myself on 2nd half and then off again before the end to lap up 2 rounds applause.

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only one who's predicting him to wear a suit and still sub himself on and play in loafers?

Hi Guys

I'm going to Old Trafford tomorrow and after Sunday's match I was going with a lot of pessimism now after tuesday and watching Giggsy's press conference I can't wait to go.I am buzzing. The atmosphere will be amazing.I am hoping that we play the Man United way.
For those who didn't see his conference there was he has just given himself a 5 year contract lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Here, here!

Agree0 Disagree0

How refreshing was it to see giggs saying all the right things, none of this rubbish what moyes used to come out with like we will try our best to get a result etc, giggs words plain and simple, we are Manchester United were at home to norwich and we expect to win. showed class to moyes thanking him for the coaching opportunity but there was one or two digs were he mentioned how much the lads had enjoyed training this week and we will be playing tommorow the Manchester United way. really strange week though all in all, feels like you have just got rid of an unwanted lodger off your couch with the sacking of moyes. we have our club back!

Agree0 Disagree0

Is it just me or is anyone looking forward to next season under a new manger the team isn't that bad De Gea Kagawa RvP Mata Rooney are all quality players that a new manager could make it very exciting

Agree0 Disagree0

I so hope Giggs is made assistant to the new manager with a view to him taking over permanently in 3 or 4 years time. I just have a really good feeling Giggs will go on to lead our team to further greatness in the future.

Great press conference. I am so looking forward to tomorrows game. :O)

A story has annoyed me today. If LvG gets the job and wishes to have Roy Keane as his assistant, who is SAF to block this purely because he doesn't get on with him. That irritates me and makes it seem like SAF is the club. Keane and LvG would rule with an iron fist and accept no nonsense, at the top level that is what you need to get the best results especially with the reported poor discipline during the Moyes era.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Saf os a control freak, wouldn't surprise me if he got the job with giggs maybe being coach?

Agree0 Disagree0

It's really irritating. If LvG thinks that Keane is his best option as right hand mind then that's who should come in. SAF still thinks he is bigger than the club, he is just a director now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh why are you getting annoyed about a probably made up story about an ex player, with a massive chip on his shoulder, and someone who the press said we are interested in as a potential manager?

You need to relax.

Agree0 Disagree0

For starters you have no idea whether these rumours about Keane have even an ounce of truth, secondly don't speak of SAF like he isn't important anymore now that he's not manager. Any big signings we manage to bring in I guarantee he would have had some sort of influence on the player.

@Ed002

Although Sydney! has already told us who will be taking over as manager, would love to know if you have any info on which managers are being considered, and perhaps their situations.

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - As I said on Wednesday, do not ignore Antonio Conte. Ancelotti likely remains someone who could also be considered.}

Ed002 looked everywhere for your comment on conte and can't find anything?think he would be great manager for us!do you think he would be willing to come to us?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to speculate about what he thinks.}

I would like to see us get Carlo Ancelotti. After Klopp he would be my next choice.

But I think it will be Louis van Gaal for 2-4 years with Giggs replacing him. That's just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

What do you think Ancelotti would bring that is better than what Louis van Gaal would bring Syd?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like Ancelotti too Sydney! but I think it will be difficult.

Conte is interesting, especially if he can bring somebody like a Vidal with him.

Conte has done well in the league and only has had two seasons in the Champions League. I think he could do well though. Should be interesting.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I'm not sure about conte style of play because when Mancini used 3 at the back he was found out in premiership and we don't have the defenders available to play it tbh}

@Ed004

I agree, he will have to play 4 at the back. But even if he wants to play 3, I think we will be buying a couple of center backs this summer, so it should not be a problem.

It could also mean that if we do get Luke Shaw, we can use him in midfield on the left with a bit more defensive solidarity there too. Valencia could be used very well on the right.

Although personally I want to see an attacking 4-3-3

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I don't think 3 at the back works. They got found out in Europe as well. IMO we need to go back to 4-2-3-1 or 433. Build the team around Mata and RVP. Means we need a cb with experience, an attacking left back, two centre mids one defensive and the other creative and a winger to partner mata and Januzaj/Kagawa}

Fresh, I don't know. Ancelotti is a gentleman and there wouldn't be bust-ups with the players. He would also get the respect he deserves. LvG would get respect, but there could be a few tear ups within the camp.

A top class manager should be able to change their style and not be stuck to one way of playing.

Just a question. If we did get van gaal after the world cup how likely are we to of missed out on transfer targets due to his later start.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly answer whatif questions about one coach who might be of interest to the club.}

Reports suggest that we will be pressing on with signing the players that every manager would want, like Shaw, maybe Kroos etc. Some say that LvG is close to signing and targets have already been discussed whilst others say that the club have already identified players that they want, the manager just has to say yes or no.

Mata
i never worked out why we signed him, we don't need to spend 37 mil on him.
He is a talented player but so is kagawa but he only fits in to a 4-2-3-1 as a 10 he doesn't fit in to any other formation .
he is not fluid or quick he is a player you need to carry imo he was a bad buy .
I will get slated for this view but jose sold him and I can understamd why
Mata has never won a league, he is s good footballer but he is not all that.
I fully understand why mourhinho got rid

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That money should been used for a midfielder and lb. I think Moyes felt it slipping away and that did rejuvenate the fans for a short period of time. The new manager will have lots of things to sort out. I would rather have Mata and RVP upfront but Rooney is going nowhere with that insane contract, which was Moyes biggest mistake of all. Rooney and his agent made out like bandits during Moyes reign

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata
World class.
Question is why we signed fellaini?

Agree0 Disagree0

If the new Manager doesn't want or rate Rooney, then we will not play him and he will be off. As for Mata, he is a talented player but did not address our basic problems, a lack of pace and a weak midfield. We now have 3layers who can play as a number 10, 2 of whom don't add huge value when played anywhere else. Can't wait for the fun to start

Agree0 Disagree0

Different class for me, regardless of whether or not we needed him, if a player like him becomes available you would be mad not to snap him up, if we can do good business in the transfer market and inject some real pace and power in the team then you will see the real juan mata, pace in wide areas, rvp making clever runs, a central midfielder running beyond and into the box and juan mata will thrive on it. recapture last seasons goal scoring form for chelsea which I have faith he will and we have the perfect number 10 on our hands!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata is the player we should be building our team around. Voted Player of the Year two years running at Chelsea tells you all you need to know. He's better than anyone else we have in his position, including Kagawa.
Fellaini is another matter, no pun intended. Just don't know where he fits in and if we do go back to playing like United, he'll look even worse.
We all have our favourites but Mata, IMO, is just common sense!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, Mata is 100% pure quality, he may be no Bale in terms of speed but his feet and his brain are brilliant. For me the biggest error in Moyes' time, in terms of signings and contracts, was giving Rooney that contract. Now I believe a lot of the, supposed, £300k comes from him being used by United in advertising etc around the world, so I hope that if the new guy doesn't think he is worth the huge sum, which he definitely isn't, that we can starve him of that extra money and therefore remove him from the squad. If not, I believe we have a guy on a huge amount of money who is on the way down and has been for some time. Yes out of a very bad bunch he has looked one of the best, but not 300k worth by a long shot. As this season has gone on, as far as I am concerned, his performances have deteriorated, maybe he is too comfortable now he has his new contract. If Rooney was on £100-150k per week plus a little bit extra for bonuses and his place in the team didn't mean that other players couldn't play in the positions they are supposed to play, I would be happy to have him here. But, the money he is getting and the trouble it causes trying to accommodate him, means I don't think he is worth that trouble and money.

Agree0 Disagree0

To me Fellaini and Mata were panic buys Moyes didn't think Fellaini good enough but the window was closing Ed had cocked everything up, Mata was bought to show we have the pulling power

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we bought mata as we where desperate to by a big name and he was available .
He is a good player but he is a luxury player and I can fully understand why mourhino got rid of chelseas player of the year

Agree0 Disagree0

You can never have enough world class players, there is always room. He is the best number 10 in the League for me and we would have been silly to let him slip through the net. I'd start him behind RVP over Rooney every day of the week. Crucial player for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata is a luxury player, same with Kagawa. Jose wants players who work hard for the team defensively and Mata doesn't. Same goes for Oscar really, I wouldn't be surprised to see Oscar gone within a couple seasons.

If my memory serves me correct it was myself and Jred who were saying Mata was an odd signing for this very reason. It was strange that Moyes who likes workhorses, then goes and signs Mata. It didn't make sense at the time.

He's a very good player when you have possession and you are trying to break a team down, but if you are setting up to be a strong defensive unit and then break, he's probably not suited to that style.

Panic buy yes, But he is still a quality player. He will need to adapt though. If the new manager feels the same way then he would be a good asset to swap, perhaps for Oezil? Or Fabregas? Maybe even Cavani? Perhaps a bit FM though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney, Mata is not undroppable. He is suited for some games and not others. In bigger games if we need a more solid midfield 3 you drop him and put Fellaini alongside whoever we bring in. In most games though he is and should be a regular starter for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sidney, if my memory serves me correct you was salivating at the thought of manchester united signing juan mata.Do you just post what you think people want to read as you come across as being the all seeing eye the oracle if you will like you have some inside knowledge when in actual fact you know as much as the rest of the fans and when someone gives a good reply back proving you wrong you backtrack. With the amount of times you seem to post as the oracle I would of said your a liverpool fan as you can't possibly have time for a job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nellym, are you Jred in disguise or are you just brown nosing him?

Of course I was happy with the Mata signing and I still am, but I thought it was a strange signing for Moyes as he didn't seem keen on Kagawa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, I agree. IMO Moyes' and Jose's teams are too defensive and boring to watch so I would want a luxury player in the MU team. We had Berbatov, Cantona etc. But I think one's enough and Kagawa will be sold. As I said a few days ago Kagawa is a luxury player, but Mata offers more. Free-kicks, corners etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was it not SAF that was behind the Mata transfer? Thought I remember reading that somewhere when we signed him.

Syd is right to an extent that it was a fairly strange signing for Moyes considering he wasn't a massive fan of Kagawa yet they're similar players. I think Mata has showed to be stronger and less easily pushed off the ball but tbh I think Kagawa could be the better player of the two, especially if we want to play fast, attractive counter attacking football, no doubt Kagawa will be the better player than Mata in that system.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also moyes didn't want ozil then bought mata a few month later.

Syd
I think that's a bit harsh on me ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point Jred, and we now know that if Moyes wanted him the club would have sanctioned it. I think Oezil will be much better next season. Although there are whispers of him being unhappy, nothing concrete though. Out of curiosity would you swap Mata for Oezil? Not going to happen, but I think Mata would be a better fit for Arsenal and Oezil a better fit for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yer I would syd and I agree I think he will be much better next season.
Also ozil played a lot of games in the wide position for madrid so I think he would be comfortable in a 4-3-3 or interchanging in a 4-2-3-1 I think as he is quicker he can do that better than mata .

Another outstanding performance from Garay again. The best option to plug the hole in our back line in my opinion. A much better player than Mangala. But if it's van Gaal we get, does he not shy away from South American players?
