So Jm extended contract till 2020 with another year option- shows a commitment to the club and hopefully stability- love him or hate him its got to be good news that we won't be having managerial upheaval shortly (fingers crossed)

Good news if he does the job. I see the benefits but I remain to be convinced by him, I would still liked to have seen us wait until the end of the season.

Christmas wasn't that long ago and we were awful during that period. A few decent results and major signing and that all seems forgotten. I don't want to put a downer on it, but it isn't all good news based on what has happened before, it's just wishful thinking that makes it a good move for us fans. Obviously it does stop rumours etc until the next dip and petulance display.

The club tried a long term deal,6 years with Moyes, likely to try to convince players and it didn’t work.

This, however, is a good move, long enough to make everyone including the players, aware the club trusts him but not too long. However even though the negative fans want to slant this, yet it is a good move, it gives stability, we have the best chance to get where we want since SAF left. I feel a sense of confidence seeping through the club for the first time in years

I sense Jose has found where he has a challenge, a project and has warmed to it. People seem to think there was a meltdown at Chelsea yet miss it is a club that doesn’t support its managers. A managers authority needs to be supported because if it isn’t you get chaos and now it is happening again at Chelsea. SAF didn’t manage through being nice to everyone or being popular he did it by being a leader and earned that support which became unwavering, Jose hasn’t had that level of support in previous roles, let’s see how he does now he has more than he has had before. I am confident.

James 🤣🤣🤣.

26 Jan 2018 02:35:34
Dangerous to be criticizing the great JM James, especially after some career defining results against Derby, Burnley and Stoke recently. How quickly our fans forget the negative antics against better opposition and how difficult to watch a great many of our games have been - half the people on here were getting very worried about Jose just a few weeks ago.

The second he goes it will be all guns blazing, like with LVG, but for the time being the chequebook has been opened (AGAIN) and all is right with the world. That's why I want to wait and see, we have parked the bus against the top teams and have put on turgid displays against the weak teams (for the most part), but to most of our fans that justifies extending his contract now, how desperate we have become! Rewards handed out for average, is not what makes for a happy future, the carrot and carrot approach has served us so well for the past 5-6 years, may as well keep doing it!

Agree8 Disagree10

26 Jan 2018 04:46:22
Or, we have been the best of the rest in a league where City have set a new benchmark.

Jose has been frustrated because his front 4 have been hit and miss (understandable given age) and now Sanchez will hopefully add a cutting edge and more importantly consistency to a very promising young attack.

Soak up the optimism Beast, the tide's a changing!

Red Man, I think we are making progress and I’m pleased any uncertainty has been removed but to suggest there wasn’t a major issue at Chelsea is a bit of a stretch. Quite simply the players stoped laying for him, or at least a lot of them did. The slide and then miraculous r covers after he left tells us an awful lot. We can only hope he learnt from whatever happened and it does seem we have a very happy camp right now.

Agree2 Disagree0

AJH

If you let the players run the club and by all accounts some at Chelsea were allowed to run moaning to the owner it will not end well. Can you imagine any players going over SAF’s head? No. If the manager is undermined it will fall apart and that goes for any manager.

It looks like it has started to happen again at Chelsea, maybe there was more to it than Mourinho.

Agree2 Disagree1

26 Jan 2018 07:11:28
Perhaps it’s the owner who wants to get involved in “everything” that’s why it happened like it happened at Chelsea? So it’s a blessing in disguise when we have the Glazers not too many involved in the day to day running? It’s more professional like an American corporation than a private Russian local company 🤣🤣
Just my humble analysis.

Agree3 Disagree1

26 Jan 2018 08:02:01
Personally Beast it is the fact that he has turned round a slide to Liverpool style mediocrity whilst challenging for and winning titles. Is the football beautiful- mostly no but we're getting better, his signings have improved us and suddenly everyone is venting bile at us instead of laughing. In short Jose has made us relevent again.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 10:14:42
I think we are somewhere in the middle between redman’s and breasts view. I think the new contract is a very shrewd and necessary step as it provides us stability for the first time since Sir Alex left. Now yes we have not played the most beautiful brand of football but it is clear to everyone in the football world that we have improved hugely in the last 18 months. We are attracting world class players such as Sanchez that would have only been a pipe dream 2 years ago. We are city’s closest challengers and and we have that good feeling back which I haven’t felt in years. We were in real danger of slipping into a Liverpool lull where we would have slipped into obscurity and mediocrity. And Jose deserves praise for stopping the rot and therefore has been awarded a new contract. For all our success and money we have spent since the Fergie years, our squad was terrible and unbalanced and Jose has worked to fix this. There is no other manager in world football that would have been able to turn us around as fast and efficiently as Jose has. He does not get the credit for improving players such as Lingard, martial, Jones and even smalling and young. Shaw is starting to show the potential we know he has. The football has not always been pretty but I’d much rather be in the situation that we are in now than say spurs, Liverpool or arsenal who are below us.

In short, Jose has done very well to get us to where we are and deserves a new contract. He looks happy the last month and it’s great to see. Football style must improve and I think it will so let’s just be patient and let Jose see out his contract. The club looks professional and organised for the first time in ages and that is great to see.

Ok so that is something now. Jose has extended hi stay at Old Trafford. don't think he has ever stayed more than 3 anywhere. Hope he creates his legacy here with this United team. I for one am happy that he is staying. You can see the improvement. The stability was much required.

His draw to bring in top top players is a big reason I'm glad he's signed an extension!
I'd still like better football to watch but it's improving as the squad improves!

If a player lived in a hotel, he would be called a mercenary. Maybe Jose could now show the club and the fans some commitment and go house hunting.

Agree4 Disagree15

25 Jan 2018 17:55:58
Only an extra year so hardly a big commitment but least the club doesn't have to pay too much compensation if jose implodes like second time at chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2018 18:20:17
I may be in the minority here but I don't think there is any issue with Jose living in the Lowry. For starters he is alone and his family are in London so perhaps he prefers to live in a hotel with his staff as opposed to alone in a house. He has mentioned before that he has everything done for him in the hotel. As long as we are doing the business on the pitch and progressing I couldn’t give two hoots where he lived.

Agree12 Disagree1

25 Jan 2018 19:54:01
Absolutely Park. He's near the ground. He saves time commuting. He gets waited on hand and foot. He's got meeting facilities if he needs them. He doesn't have to bother with buying somewhere, furnishing it and then selling it again in a few years. There's no housework, repairs and maintenance. All in all he can get on with his job. Fantastic.

Those who keep going on about it are just making trouble.

I've already said he can rent one of mine in Worsley at a good rate 😆😆.

25 Jan 2018 20:08:24
He’s already said he lives in a serviced apartment in a hotel so hardly the travel lodge, he said he feels comfortable that way. 2020 tho, extra year option, stability is what we need.

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Jan 2018 20:45:32
I don't care what anybody says Jose is the best manager out there with the possible exception of Pep!

He's a proven winner at multiple Clubs in several different countries. As far as i'm concerned anybody else would be a step down.

Forget all the anti football nonsense it takes time to build a team and we're definitely heading in the right direction.

I've always been of the opinion that if Jose can't make a success of it then we really are in trouble.

I agree it's not been perfect but if we're patient I'm sure he'll deliver!

Totally agree Park and Shaw btw!

Agree6 Disagree2

25 Jan 2018 21:37:39
AGreed. We can’t keep sacking managers. Jose is doing a decent to good job. Perhaps taking a bit longer than expected to get us challenging for the title but we are moving in the right direction and he is a winner and has a fine pedigree. The longer is away from Chelsea the less blue he becomes. Oh, and where he chooses to live is absolutely irrelevant to all of us.

Agree6 Disagree0

25 Jan 2018 17:13:16
Jose has a new contract until 2020. Can only be a good thing for the club's long-term growth and stability. Hopefully it also means we can criticise him from time to time, knowing no one is actually trying to force him out.

25 Jan 2018 17:20:35
Must be quite fond of his hotel room.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2018 17:35:43
He earns a lot of the criticism sometimes Stevie we would all probably hope that he would handle certain situations better.

What I can say though is the difference I personally can see at the club over the last 18 months is staggering it really feels like we are rising to the pinnacle again and I'm over the moon to be united fan atm .

I watched the Chelsea arsenal game last night and wondered how their fans must view our squad and manager and although they would never admit it I'm sure the word envy would be adequate.

Agree6 Disagree0

25 Jan 2018 17:53:06
Can’t argue with that Deano they were both woeful last night and there seems to be a lot of unrest at Chelsea. Must hurt seeing us on the rise. First time since Fergie that I feel we are starting to get there fear factor and hate back from the ABUs. Mourinho signing on is great for stability and as long as the style improves I can see us having a very successful time under him.

And I have to say Conte running up and down the touchline, yelling and gesticulating is a complete embarrassment.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 02:00:40
Conte has seriously lost it. Complaining that they lost the game because their best player is injured and they are left with Barkley in the bench. As though the best players from other clubs is fit the whole season. Or for that matter, who is the "best player" that is injured from their squad?

I hope so too, would be nice to see somebody we loan out actually improve whilst they are away, it feels like it has been a long time that it has actually worked how it is meant to (in my mind anyway) . Typically its the final death nail for a Utd career.

I have high hopes for TFM personally.

Good morning Ed, hope you are well. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the VAR system at the moment, good, bad or indifferent and if you think it is good for the game or will be more of a hinderence to it? Thanks.

{Ed004's Note - I think it is mostly good however, there are incidents that need cleared up. The standard of officiating has been declining in the last few years imo and it can only be a good thing that they are given more help.}

Beginning to think that was a mistake, though it was hard work doing a full time job and keeping up with it as well.}
