This midfield situation is really starting to get on my nerves. We have done badly in europe so our midfield needs to be replaced (although none of the draws can be blamed on the mid, we were just s**tty at defending).
Let me start with carrick. If he was spanish , he would have been worldclass. His positioning and reading of the game are sublime while his passing accuracy rivals xavi's. His only problem is that he isnt a typical pl player, strong and fast , and he doesent have the workrate of a Park. Xabi Alonso anyone?
Now for Darren fletcher. He is the best all rounded mid in the pl, possibly the world. He has had a bad time with his virus but when on form he is a complete dominator . Anyone remembers his masterclass performance against pirlo? after all he is the player who knocked nicky butt out of the team !
Gibson is crap ill admit it
Anderson might be our most creative player in the area. Our early season form was due to his own form partnering with cleverley who was able to get the best out of him. In most matches he would have been our man of the match if it wasnt for rooney. He has potential but its just beeing wasted in the holding midfielder role while he is an undoubted attacking midfielder just like gotze sneijder iniesta who arent kbown for their defensive attributes
Park and Giggs are past it.
Valencia nani and young are class, but i beleive the later 2 would better be used as forwards in a 4 3 3 formation ( with jones or carrick clevs and ando beeing the mds which would allow ando to shine as an inieta type am and clevs is the 1 controling the tempo of the game)
Cleverley is a very talented lad and his style of play suits the united way, he is just what's needed but he is very injury prone and not really tested at gigh levels but still he has plenty of potential. His most useful attribute is his ability to take the best out of ando
as for potential signings in the area i wouldnt put my money on some1 coming in in jan but i dont think we need more than 1 signing to be able to challenge on all fronts. A def mid is needed and the options are rodwell tiote de rossi mascherano and m villa. would prefer mascherano as he has pl exp and is 27 wouldnt block the rising of our young talents.
also in an ideal world , we would have modric alongside clevs or ando or as backup for both...
Btw i dont think pogba and morrison are ready fir the stepup yet they still need at least a couple of months of reserves football cz they just graduated from the aca and then become regular subs in the later stage of the season and next year er could have 2 potential world beaters at our disposal.

"I do not see anyone who could make us a better team. "There are two or three players but they are not available, so there is no point even going there."

On this site people are desperate for a january signing. How have we got to this?

Poor planning and neglect in the transfer market has let players age, SAF remains in denial whilst believing Fletcher, Gibson, Anderson, Park and Giggs are good enough this season. The fact that he thinks there are potentially only three better is fanciful and perhaps should mean we question his decision making. Maybe he has got too close to the all too many ordinary players at Old Trafford meaning he cant make objective decisions. The key question is to the board of United, what is SAF's plan, why has SAF continuously failed in the market?

It really is not acceptable that we are sat here desperate in November whilst watching inadequate activity in transfer windows for 3 years

However, whisper it quietly, failure in the Champions league will force SAF out of his shell, shake his trust in ordinary talent infesting the club at the moment and maybe even ask the Glazers for funds.

The list of players who would improve us is listed on here but SAF is in denial, this has to stop to save the club

if we fail to qaulify then perhaps this time saf will finally realise that the midfield needs to be sorted once and for all, its the first line of attack and the first line of defence. the midfield is not up to it anymore, simple as that!

Derossi agent has said he will sign a new contract with Rome also manchin has said he expects him to sign a new contract but if he doesn't city will be intrested

I was thinking Martinez might be a shout won't be cup tied would cost a lot but his a real talent just the type we need and maybe Jan might be a good time to buy him as there might be less chance of a bidding war
Also he would be my first choice so it would make my day

Any transfers in winter will depend on the fact that United would have to qualify for CL knockout stages which is not a difficult task but neither easy. Basel will play with whatever they have got and United will be under immense pressure.
Important factor in getting a player will be to lure him for CL football. If United does get through then everyone should wish for the toughest opponent possible. It is better to get out early and concentrate on the league rather than losing at last.
But I know 1 thing that even with this squad SAF can make the life for other teams miserable. It is not all about quality but also about tactics.

With what we've got the CL is a pipe dream - regardless of eligibility, SAF should be bringing in some quality in Jan to at least give us a shot at the league - do nothing and we'll win nothing

People and Fergie saying there's no one available or good enough to improve our CM. I don't buy that, 1 person i can think of that if we tried hard enough, we could possibly get in Jan. Out of contract in the summer (won't cost to much), would'nt hinder the youth's development... DeRossi. And i'm sure there's more than him.... HERBIE

alarm guys.. official united site confirms that anderson is out till fab.. SAF used words " along with cleverly now 2 imp mid fielders are out for long term" could this mean a platform is ready to buy/ loan experienced midfielder who in future doesnt come in way of pogba nd morisson? i think its bruno soriano's arrival beats..

It's nice to see that fergy confirmed my post from yesterday
I really can't see any cm that would improve us being available in jan we should of spent the money required to solve the problem in the summer but for what ever reason we never
can anyone think of a cm that will be realisticly available in jan
one other thing strange to see martin ferguson on Italian sky today saying that united had no real interest in sniejder during the summer

With Anderson and Cleverey injured , Fletcher's abiity decreasing, Park much better out wide and Carrick way past his best ( I know he had a good game mid week, but 1 game in a season is not good enough ) we surely have to buy someone.
I did hear that we were after Eriksen , but so are most teams.
Anyone have any concrete rumours on us buying a midfielder in January.

Ed001's Note - he must be up to his old tricks because he spent all summer trying to add another midfielder.

____________________________________

He spent all summer trying to add WS, and then decided that there wasn't any value in the market besides him.

So unless he was to go for WS again, the same thing could ring true..

Joe {Ed001's Note - yes, but he clearly can see an improvement for the squad or why try and buy him? He is hardly going to say if he thinks his midfield is rubbish though!}

What SAF said regarding the January window means absolutely nothing. Personally, I don't think we'll see a midfielder, or any player for that matter, arriving in January. But if he's going to try and sign someone in a couple months, he's not going to announce it to the world is he? At the end of the summer he told us the same thing; that he's happy with the squad that he's got. But that didn't stop him from trying to sign Sneijder. Or enquiring about the availability of Gotze, Ozil or Thiago. Whether he's desperate for a new player or he's actually content with his squad, the answer to the media will always be that he's happy with the players at his disposal. What SAF says and what SAF does are two very different things. I'm amazed that people are still not wise to this.

There's an article on SSN with comments from Fergie, beneath the Anderson injury story.

"It's easy to say you are going to buy players but it is not easy to buy them for Manchester United, especially in January"

"I do not see anyone who could make us a better team. There are two or three players but they are not available, so there is no point even going there."

Ed do you think fergie is up to his tricks or may he genuinely believe he can't improve our squad, because that would be a real worry to me.

Good for him and finally someone from Liverpool getting to play CL football.

The 5 who played in midfield for Spurs on Monday, Parker Bale Modric V.D.V and Lennon cost under £40 million for all of them combined and yet we are told by Sir Alex today there is no one out there who could improve us. Is this Sir Alex talking or the Glazers or is it that none of the above have any connection with a dodgy Portugese agent. RAINFISHTROMBONE

Look Fergie isn't going to come out and say well we need to buy another midfielder now that Anderson is out injured.

That would show that he has no confidence in the midfield, especially publically confirming this.

We are starting to play well again so he won't want to knck our confidence.

As for the Jan trasnfer window s njeider couldn't play CL football if we got through/ get through so only good for EPL.

Fergie will only buy in Jan if the right plyer becomes available.

He maybe force into playing Pogba and maybe Morrison?

But wait we have Gibson the lean mean ball slicing machine raring to come back. (got to have a laugh).

He'll probably end up playing a handful of games now. So basically it will end up 2 ways for him, either play amazing and be kept- unlikely but be good if it happened or he will be auditioning for a new club in Jan possibly the summer.

The prob we have is that Giggs can't play every game so he will play once a week or even half a match.

So that leaves Carrick/Fletcher/Gibson as our midfield unless park and valencia get played in middle and Young and Nani on the wings..... just a thought.

So if/when Gibson doesn't perform along with Carrick and Co Pogba may actually be given or forced to play first team football.

What do you all think, i maybe abit biased towards not likeling Gibson but he reallys hasn't done alot and fleets in/out of games and lacks consistency like Anderson.

For me, one of these three needs to come in to brighten up our midfield, they are the best options:

Ozil, Sneijder, Gotze

More bad news on the midfield situation....Brazilian midfielder Anderson has been ruled out until February with a knee injury.

Sir Alex revealed the blow at his Friday press conference after the South American has been missing since being substituted in the home win against Otelul Galati.

"It's in the midfield area where we've still got issues with Tom Cleverley and Anderson," stated the boss. "It's not good news about Anderson, we don't think he'll be fit until February.

"He's got this knee injury and we've sent him back to Portugal to see the specialist who operated on his knee last time. That's a bit of a blow, we didn't expect that one. So that's the two midfield players who are going to be missing for a spell now."

The manager insists he still has enough options in the middle of the park - even though injuries have taken their toll in the position this term.

"We're not as bad as people think we are in midfield," he stressed. "We have Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher, and if we get Tom Cleverley back for Christmas that'll be a bonus. We'll be okay, we have a strong squad."

One thing that is certain is Sir Alex won't be rushing into the January transfer market as a consequence. "It's dead easy to say you'll go out and buy players," he warned. "But it's not easy to buy players who are good enough for Manchester United, especially in January."YEH BUT IT WOULD BE EASY TO BUY PLAYERS THAT ARE BETTER THAN Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher......

come on bring the youth boys through now..... READY OR NOT... & I think they are ready.

Ed do you think that the Sneijder deal could be back on? If the fee's were generally a bit lower can you see it happening? I think the way forward for us is a 4-3-3, it would be more flexible and we could play with a playmaker, normal cm and a defensive midfielder. My midfield three would be Sneijder, Rodwell, Cleverly. I think that would be a great midfield - and i do think that Anderson will come good.

In defence i can definatly see a left back come in, I really do hope that its Jordi Alba, if it isnt then id like to bring in Cissokho. Both players look better than Evra, we could do with more strength in that position. However, i wouldn't necessarily let Evra leave straight away, maybe give him one more season and let him rotate with the new boys. Center back would be a luxury, i think we are well stocked - but replacing Vidic in a couple of seasons time will be massive! Our defensive looks most solid when he is playing - regardless of who he plays with. I also would like to see a striker brought in, with a few going out. Top two choices are obviously Higuain and Van Persie, that would be fantastic, but someone like van Wolfswinkel is more likely.

So, my hopeful line up for next year is:

De Gea

Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Alba

Sneijder, Rodwell, Cleverly

Nani, Hernandez, Rooney

That line up would be fantastic, with bags of steel and flair.

I think brining in Rodwell, Sneijder, van Wolfswinkel and Alba would cost about 75 million, and more like 90 million if Higuain/van Persie was brought in instead of Wolfswinkel. But with outgoings, Berbatov, Owen, Macheda, Park (maybe), Kuscack, Gibson, James, Drinkwater, Diouf - maybe one of Fletcher or Carrick. They'd bring in about 35 million so that would mean a 40 million outlay on the new players.

On a final note - I really hope Bebe comes back better, stronger and turn out to be a fantastic player because i really do believe he has such top potential. It would be a greeat thing for him to prove his haters wrong!

What do you guys think?

RedDevil19 {Ed002's Note - There is nothing on Sneijder right now.}

Speaking for myself I never ever consider Anderson when I am trying to work out the team that Fergie will select for the next game. He has just not done it for United and if this gives one of the younger players a chance then it will be a blessing in disguise.

Will we buy in January is always difficult because good players are still needed by their clubs if they are still involved in the hunt for silverware.

I still believe we need a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder plus i right sided full back. The twins are always injured and Smalling and Jones are wasted in that position but what do I know.

Just an opinion an we are all entitled to that.

I hope fergies comments are simply to disguise any genuine transfer interest - if he thinks what he's got is good enough then he's deluded or starting to believe his own propaganda {Ed002's Note - Perhaps you should start a "Fergie Out" campaign on Facebook?}

Even with Anderson now out injured, Fergire still doesn't want to buy: 'Sir Alex was asked if he was worried enough about the midfield to sign someone in the New Year transfer window. He replied, "It's dead easy to say you'll go out and buy players. But it's not easy to buy players who are good enough for Manchester United, especially in January. We'll be okay, we have a strong squad."' Brilliant....

any one having any idea ? y SAF dont give more chances to pogba and morrison like other teams in spain and germany do their young promsing guns? our midfield is no special then why he is not trying them infront of some average teams?if he wil not do this how he would be sure of them whether they can perform on big stage. he can use as subs more if game is in under control or sub them out if they have a bad game.. they can learn quickly like this rather playing on and on for reserves or rare league games.

I haven't seen much of Gotze, but from what I've seen, he doesn't look as special as people are making him out to be. He can't seem to go past players, yet papers are labeling him the new Messi. He's obviously a good passer and reader of the game, but I've been distictly unimpressed. I'd much rather give Morrison the game time.
