Lvg stated in his press conference that jones evans smalling are injured and now is the time for youth to take their oppurtunity. With blackett injured and keane on loan, do we have any cb at youth level who deserve a chance at the first team. Any one who follows reserves???

Thorpe and Mcnair both look good in the reserves, I probably would have preferred either of them to Blackett before now. The step up to first team is massive but both look composed, and both, but especially Mcnair look comfortable with the ball. I can certainly see him becoming a top player.

Blind and rojo will most likley be the centre back pairing even tho its two leftys and luke shaw will come in at left back
Agree0
Disagree0
Shaw hasn't played this season, Rojo hasn't played CB yet, Blind hasn't played CB yet. Not even Xmas time and we are down to bone marrow.
Allardyce must be rubbing his hands together.
English, Dutch, Portuguese & Spanish. Never played together before and all under immense pressure. Should be interesting considering the fact confidence couldn't be lower defensively, is this really the team that just spent over £150mil strengthening?

Watch Rafael pick up a knock in training today just to add insult to injury, literally.

Remember the back 3 of Fletcher, Carrick and Evra away v Fulham a few years back? Seems very similar. I hope this is just bad luck but with Jones, Smalling and Evans injury records I can see it being semi regular until January.

Hey guys
A question hopefully someone might be able to answer. Does anyone know if LVG is looking into the reason why we have so many players constantly getting injured, I see now from his press conference we now have 9 players injured!! could this be down to training/preparation methods?

I doubt it, you need to remember the same players were injured under Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes. All of which had different training methods.
Some players just pick up more knocks and pulls than others. Maybe they push themselves too soon when recovering or maybe they just overstretch themselves.

I'd be willing to bet a fortune that half these game missing injuries would reduce to minor niggles and they would be putting themselves forward for selection if players were only paid half their wages for the week following a game missed due to injury.
Players pick up far too high a basic wage now and it's too easy to over egg an injury. They literally get their cake and eat it.
It's disgusting how many games are missed nowadays considering the pampering they receive and the money involved. Pitches are immaculate, training facilities supreme, nutritional and medical advice top notch. The players have one job to do now, even the everyday stresses people have are managed by agents and PR people, so they can have sleep filled nights.
Bet it makes 80's footballers sick how easy they have it and how feeble they are. It's the equivalent of having a runny nose and not going in the office that day, but still being paid.

I think if you look at our injuries, then it's the usual suspects every time. Jones, Smalling and Evans have barely been able to string two games together between them. It's LVG's fault for not recognising this and bringing in more defenders. Fellaini has been injured for half his time at the club, so no surprises he's crocked again. Same with Young. And Carrick is just getting old and is more likely to pick up knocks.
I'm sure that RVP, Anderson and Rafael will spend more time on the treatment table this season too. All clubs have injury prone players at the club, but we seem to have stocked up on them and failed to move any on. The situation at cb is particularly frustrating because it was a problem the club would have been aware for the last few seasons but have completely failed to resolve.

In response to the poll of the day, I think yes we do need to spend about £100m more to compete for the PL. We need a minimum of Hummels (£35m), Coleman (£20m) and Strootman (£35m). BUT, I think we will see, at the very least, Rafael, Smalling, Fellaini, Young, Valencia, Nani, Hernandez, Anderson and Zaha leave over the next 2 windows, so the actual spend will be pretty low. We will have a trimmed squad filled with quality, instead of a large squad filled with average players. We will also then be able to give the youngsters their chance.

I think Everton would want a lot more than 20m for coleman

I'd probably look elsewhere if £20m wasn't enough

Everton look like they may need a CB next season so it would be nice if we swapped Smalling or Evans & something like 10m for Coleman, (he would probably be on less wage wise as well which is our FFP problem).
Subject to us buying the CB's we need of course.

How's Shaw valued @ £20m and Coleman £20m? Everton will want @ least £35m for him as he's far better than Shaw.

If it is true then in my opinion it is time to sell 2 of smalling/jones/evans they are just to injury prone it is beyond a joke now it doesn't matter how good they are or how much potential they have if they are always injured

They're not up to standard anyway. So it will be prudent to replace them.

Is say get rid of Evans Smalling and keep Jones he still has a future bring in one of Godin or Subotic

Lots of talks about who to buy next. And whether we should give chances to our youngsters first. I'm talking in particular about januzaj, Wilson and parriera. I haven't seen Perreira play a lot so i can't comment on him. But januzaj and wilson? IMO they're ready. And even keeping our 'traditions' aside, it would be foolish to not pkay them. Someone said things like 'if they are good enough, they'll play no matter what'. Well that's impossible. First of all, how will they prove they're good enough unless they they are given a chance to play consistently? And I'm not talking about playing the last 20 min in all sorts of different positions every 2 weeks. Wilson may Obviously have to wait but januzaj should be a regular starter. The pressure is showing on him. When he's introduced in the dying minutes, he's not got any time to play his own game. He tries to be selfish and its very evident.
We gave him the number 11 shirt. So apparently we trust him.
But this is the stage of his career from where he can go on to be someone like nani or go on to be someone like Ronaldo

I like Adnan as a player but he's got a our best players in front of him, so with only PL and FA Cup his chances will be limited this season unless 2 of Rooney, RVP, Falcao, ADM and Mata are unavailable.
If he works hard in training I'm sure he'll get some chances this season and more next when hopefully European football is restored.
If only we didn't mess up in the League Cup.

I think the problem at the minute is it's hard to put youth in when we're not winning games. unfortunately we live in a results world
Agree1
Disagree0
I agree completely. The problem is that we have had years to bring through our prospects, or signings for the future and we have stuck with the old guard. This has stifled everything, especially at the back where we now need to rely on players who have barely played in their best position for any serious amount of time.
I don't envy LVG here, because he can't afford to drop many more points if we want top 4, yet biding our time helping younger players gain first team experience (with no Europe or League Cup), means points could be sacrificed. Also our best young players all play in positions we have our best players in.
This is what he earns his money for. He needs to play our best players short term, but that will mean we potentially lose out on our current youth prospects again. MESS.

And that's just where the problems start. His favorite formation is the 4-3-3 which apparently we are building towards. If we do go for that formation and we don't play players out of position, then we have 4 strikers fighting for 1 spot. If that isn't an unbalanced team, i don't know what is.
Agree1

In a 433 we have a RVP Falcao Dimaria as the front 3. The issue is where dos rooney play and do we drop Falcao. I would peer a Herrera mata and Blind as the midfield 3.
