Im thinking
Veron flop
Blanc meh
Di maria flipping flip flop
Sweinsteiger flipping german towel theif flopper
Im thinking ronaldo to madrid success
Ronaldo to madrid success
Have we ever brought an established European superstar and they've been successful?

Off the top of my head I can think of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Stam.

Not established but that’s never been what we are about, we have a history of buying top British and foreign talent and making them better. RvN was class in Holland and we took him up a level, Ronaldo case in point, Vidic, Evra, Rooney another one from our shores, Rio, buying established players has not worked out, this galactico style needs to end as it’s been a failure, why go away from what’s been our forte successfully for decades, silly when you think we have.

Good point. Players with hunger and a point to prove are what's badly needed. Overpriced, overpaid superstars are not working out we should steer clear.

WE MAKE STARS WE don't BUY STARS.

{Ed025's Note - 20 years ago maybe mate, now you buy players who will sell the most shirts...and paying fortunes into the bargain..

Hi all, wanted to give my two cents on alexis Sanchez. Anyone else feel he has never really been given a chance or debt run of games to actually play himself into any form? For the life of me I do not understand why we don't play him up top instead of the human trampoline that is Lukaku.

My view is - sell Lukaku to Italy, and keeps Sanchez and play him up front to rotate with Rash and Martial left. Much better player all round. Add a right sided player with the Lukaku funds and wages freed up and there are goals in that side.

Centre mid is another story entirely - Pogba gets a lot of grief but he is basically expected to do it all. He's surrounded by dross! Don't even get me started on the back 4. Worst Utd defence in 30+ years easily.

Sanchez is on the decline, he was never particularly quick but has lost a yard of pace in the last year or so. He doesn't work out wide anymore and could be best suited to a false No.9 position or as one of a strike partnership. However, he has been played in such a role and has still struggled on those occasions.

He is also known as a bit of a loner, and doesn't involve himself with his team mates much.

All things considered I would take the hit and move him on. his wages are destabilising the club, disrupting the harmony of the dressing room and he isn't doing anything on the pitch to make that worth while.

A Sanchez redemption season next year would be fantastic, I just can't see it. Lukaku has been talking up a move to Italy ever since he lost his starting spot and all I see on here is he's got a great attitude and Rashford who works his bollocks off every game is a rotten egg. Somehow moving on Lukaku and bringing in a Sancho or a Chiesa would be wonderful.

Pogba definitely carries the creative burden by himself but he doesn't relish this challenge at all and will always be a luxury player. It's time to move him on, however with Herrera going and Fred being an energy-merchant we'd need maybe 3 midfielders coming in this summer.

The defence is awful as you say and that has been compounded by Dave being way off. Dave of last season would have conceded 10-15 less goals and that's not an understatement. Hopefully a new centre back plus AWB and some proper communication in the back 5 change things.

Why are people obsessed with moving on Lukaku without bringing in a replacement?

When have Martial or Rashford ever given the impression that they can be consistent goal scorers? Lukaku isn’t playing well, and might well be angling for a move but neither Rashford or Martial are consistent enough to be the main strikers at a top club. We would be absolutely screwed if we had to rely on them next season.

Sanchez has had plenty of chances and failed spectacularly. He WAS an amazing football player but he is clearly a shadow of that player, he started playing first team football at 16 and has played a huge amount of games over his rather successful career.

He has burned out and the club should have factored this in before giving a massive contract that lasted 4.5 years but they were desperate for good pr by defeating city to a player. Also we were heavily stocked in the left wing position and it was foolish to sign him when there was a gaping hole on the right wing which hasn't been filled for 6 years.

No sensible well run club will touch him and his wages so we are going to have to make use of him, maybe as a super sub off the bench when he could maybe still give us 10/ 15 minutes of average play.

{Ed025's Note - i cant disagree with any of that DSG..

well we are stuck with him for next season at least.

cant understand why he hasn't been played on the right he played there for barca.

{Ed025's Note - hes a waste of space if you ask me bolger, he got his mega contract on mega wages and thats all he ever wanted, cut your losses and try and get rid of this blight on the club..

I would have him stand outside Old Trafford on match days and charge fans £5 to have a signed polaroid with him to recoup some of the money they wasted on him.

That’s why I said make Sanchez the striker and the main man. This is how he thrives and is a proven threat. Never had the chance in the right position - we bought him for the sake of it without a proper plan. Couldn’t care less if he is loner and doesn’t fancy going out boozing with other players. I don’t socialise with my work colleagues as would rather spend my free time with my family and real friends yet I operate very effectively at work!

Sanchez has been dreadful pretty much 100% of the time and I think a lot of the issue is in his head, for whatever reason. City swerved one there and we left with a very expensive player who has contributed very little so far. In the game he was injured the rest of the team pretty much ignored him prostrate on the floor and carried on playing. I think that says a lot.

{Ed025's Note - it really does AJH..
