Rumours in Italy that Juventus are bracing themselves for a bid from Manchester United for Arturo Vidal. Nani plus cash apparently.

I think I'd cry if we got him to go with Shaw and Herrera!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Twitter can't half build up you're hopes eh!

Nose bleed time. what's happening at United? We're actually buying players that can improve positions we need!

Normally we're lucky just to get a number 10, that we then play out of position. I thought Mata was the new left back, what's going on.

can any of the eds or posters explain the financial fair play rule please, what sort of spending in one summer would potentially break the rules or does it not work like that?

With the need for a CB why have we not secure Garay for only €6 mill. I would hope we have someone else line up otherwise we have missed a very good, experience and cheap alternative.

If the Shaw deal goes though as well then that means the last four transfers our club have completed were for 27m, 37m, 29m and 27m rising to 33m.

All of these will have been completed by Woodward, which means he will have an average transfer spend of 30m per player. Not bad for a Glazer puppet.

Maybe we owe him a pint. Lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shappy

There are so many myths that hopefully people should now stop posting now.

1. We will not spend or buy
2. Players will not come because of CL football (very few but 95% do not make decisions based on 6 games)
3. We can not compete, when we want to we can throw our d. k on the table like all the big clubs :)

BTW in herrera's case he has passed on CL football next year to join us, not bad eh

Just watching the Belgium game and occurred to me that they have a big hairy midfielder called Fellaini - and he plays for Manchester United!

Am I the only one, in the midst of Herrera/Shaw excitement, to have completely forgotten about him when predicting our starting 11 for the new season? No one really mentions him on the teams page and he never really gets mentioned on banter - just seems to have been erased! Does he have any place in LVG's new team, such as midfield enforcer or centre back, or will he just be a squad player to then be sold at a later date?

Any thoughts on how he'll fit in?

(Really excited about new season now: Shaw/Herrera, LVG - who could get to the WC final - RVP, youngsters, reckon we'll bring two more in: De Vrij/Indi and Carvalho)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im not a fan of big fell but the big dopey lump deserves at least a full season with a pre season under his belt to prove his worth, I don't think he has the quality to be a regular starter for us but he could come in handy in certain games and LVG might seek a bit of improvement out of him, think he's much worthy of a place in the squad than fletcher and cleverly to be honest.

Who does everyone think van gaals targets Are?

I personally feel after herrera and shaw they are

Jan vertonghen
Angel di maria
Mats hummels

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A centre back & winger should be next on the list, so I'd bite your hand off for Di Maria & Hummels ;).

I think if we sign five then we need another central midfielder to go with Herrera, rather than the two centre backs. I'm not entirely sold on Vertonghen either way. If we were to get Hummels & sign a second centre back I'd like Mangala.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope its Vidal Hummels James Rodriguez. But I think they will be Vermaelen Carvalho and R.obben

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidal and De Vrij and or Martins Indi would love Depay too Hummels not so sure we have much chance of getting but we do need an experienced CB

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we can expect to be linked with pretty much anyone who played for Bayern Munich or Holland under Van Gaal. While I would like Robben, De Vrij, Martins-Indi, etc., I expect it's mostly media speculation.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 22:39:02
Fellaini giving a very good performance against Belgium! I couldn't believe it he was driving forward with the ball.?! What do you guys think? No future? Or an important role? Even though not a starter?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Squad player, used mainly filling in as a box to box midfielder. The fact that we have a new manager who did not pay the ridiculous fee for Fellaini is a good thing as he will not be under the same pressure to play him as Moyes was/would have been.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on gentlemen, this is South Korea, hardly top opposition. Dembele is actually running the show in the middle. I think Fellaini plays well when linked with Witsel, a good combination in my book.
He's a squad player at best. No way is he a centre back. I've never really rated him but he'll have a better season this time around. Couldn't be any worse.
Good to see Adnan get a start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think Fellaini needs to be played as an aggressive attacking player. Maybe consider him as a front player who can hold the ball up whilst flying wingers get it off of him.
Maybe he could replace Rooney in the striker ranks for those games when a bit of rough and tumble is needed.
Crazy thinking.I know!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 22:37:54
Big Fellaini has done very well tonight, strong and powerful in the middle, getting on the end of everything coming his way in the air. The lad looks like he wants to be involved and confident. Here's hoping the big man has turned a corner and he comes back to us a better player than last year.

Maybe I'm getting carried away with all that has happened today but would love him to prove his doubters (including myself) wrong

Plus well done big Ned for getting these deals done, hat will be well and truly off when Shaw signs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is a lot better than most here give him credit. We have a lot worse players in the squad than him but he gets the most stick because of his look and style and also being a Moyes buy.

He is very integral to the Belgian system of play. I hope he has a good year with us generally and we need different type players and he does provide you with other options.

26 Jun 2014 22:14:23
I can't believe all these posts this evening, yu are all so gullible. You honestly think we will sign Herrera and Shaw?
Its all just a big publicity stunt. There is no transfer kitty. Woodward is just a Glazer puppet, and will get a huge pay rise for not spending any money this summer. AGAIN! Evra will still be first choice, as will Big Wig.
And the transfer window isn't even open yet, so it can't be true :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So if there is no transfer kitty what was hhererra bought with luis suarez broken teeth!

Well after a nightmare day stuck in an attic plastering, I come home to the news that Herrera has signed :-) all of a sudden in all smiles again lol welcome ander Herrera . i'm sure you'll shine at our club :-) ( and good news about Shaw to hopefully ;-) any info about it eds )

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I have heard nothing that everyone else hasn't read}

Thanks for the reply ed004, fingers crossed then for Shaw :-) with all the media and sly sports reporting it, it must b true :-)

Shaw done.
Whether we get them is another thing but .

Dear Baby Jesus

Rather than getting Xmas pressies this year please could United sign:
Hummels
Vidal
Sanchez

We'd be 40% thru the perfect transfer window if that happened lol.

#GoodWorkWoody
#AboutTime!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Robben instead of Sanchez for me

Agree0 Disagree0

But we will need another centre-back, who will play alongside Hummels?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 21:24:31

For long it has been said that Spanish and German players are technically better and we should be targeting them.

Under SAF we failed to sign any of these players (Kagawa and DDG do not count) but looks like we have finally taken a step in the right direction by signing Mata and Herrera.

No offence against England fans here.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Does Kagawa not count as he's Japanese?

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa does not count as he came from the German league but isn't a player who developed in German academies.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 20:35:15
Luke shaw deal nealy done. what a day! It's not true what you lot said about woody. but who's next?. Will the deals keep coming or will that be it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 20:36:56
I must be on my own here when I say this but I believe our priority signing should now be a Winger over a CB. Obviously I do think we need a new world class centre back, I believe that it is so much more important to get a pacey winger.

Although last season our central defence was leakey and often very poor, I definitely remember being more infuriated with our lack of killer instincts on the wings. Ashley Young mainly being the most frustrating winger was often a reason as to why our attacks were unsuccessful.

Now I am expecting people to completely disagree wit my view but its just what I believe. I am not saying United should not sign a centre back because I strongly believe that we need one, but I genuinely believe that with a pacey and clinical winger the interplay with Herrera, Mata, Januzaj and RVP could be breath taking!

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Joe, fair point but the defence conceded too many goals last year and we need to tighten up. We have plenty of attacking options and Januzaj will get a longer run this year. In terms of priority' it was CM, LB, CM, CH, LW. 1st 2 are done but LW may have to wait (or RW)

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, winger before centre half for sure, you score 3 we score 4

Agree0 Disagree0

If we went out and bought Sanchez/Konoplyanka and Hummels. I would be very happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need another cb after vidic and Rio leaving and smalling Jones and Evans r to injury prone to really on 4 such an important season

Agree0 Disagree0

Not at all! CB is vital! We were bad enough last season as it is with Vida and Rio in! You can't trust Smalling, jones and Evans. CB is essential! Although we need to sell young and bring in a wide, pact, direct forward aswell.

Agree0 Disagree0

The best sides are built on a solid foundation, so I hope we buy a really good commanding centre half (and another centre mid!) before we buy a winger
I'm hoping for Hummels, but it does seem unlikely; however, if you had asked me on Monday would we have Herrera and Shaw in the bag by the end of the week I would have said no chance!

I actually think the next signing will be Vidal; have I gone mad with all the excitement?

Agree0 Disagree0

Cam

Hope u r right what a signing that would be

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 20:00:12
Very happy with the signing of Herrera. He is what we need. So well done woody for that. But let's not stop there. Luke shaw must be next. Maybe us united fans can get excited for this summer. just maybe

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Jun 2014 00:32:02
Forget every other position we need after shaw is complete then concentrate all efforts on Vidal, with the protection he and Herrera would give even our current centre backs would concede less than last season.Centre midfield is priority as we'd have better ball retention with Herrera and Vidal maybe a n other depending on formation plus better defensive qualities in Vidal would mean we could force the play more with a higher line ala keane and scholes and the glory days will be upon us again

Reports surfacing that Luke Shaw has travelled our way and will undergo a medical in the very near future. Fee believed to have been agreed at £27m, potentially rising to £31m with incentives.

Afternoon all

Finally good news that we have signed a creative midfielder! Fingers crossed he will be great for many years to come.

What I'm struggling to understand is, why are people desperate to buy another midfielder to partner him?. personally I think we already have the perfect solution in Carrick! Admittedly Carrick was average last season, but he was effectively the only quality we had in the midfield last year and left with the impossible task of doing all alone.

For me the defence is now a major priority and we are very weak at CB and as discussed LB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 20:55:35
Carrick is almost 33 and too slow . We need someone with energy and aggression to in there

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree, although if Shaw signs we are halfway there

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick he is dross . I love the sincerity in your post. Like you believe carrick can still cut it at top level. He can't

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick has looked better than he is because he was the best of a bad bunch, he needs replacing with quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 22:45:19
If you think Carrick is 'dross' you clearly have no knowledge of football!

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick no chance one good season in how many. Squad player at best

Hi Ed, just a quick question. I know you mentioned before in a recent post that we were still interested in William Carvalho, just wondering do you know if there have been any developments? He looks like a real class act. Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, he is busy this afternoon.}

Your joking. Going off the few games iv seen him play he has not stood outat all. Against Ghana today he's been very poor. Passing awful positioning awful and looked very immobile

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Herrera will be a great signing. Would love to see us sign Vidal. I'm not sure why we didn't get fernando. I said many times last year that he is quality. But we're heading in the right direction.
So should be a good summer.

WELCOME HERERRA!

All the very best in your Man Utd career.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 18:04:33
Banter please Ed. 4 signings seems likely this summer Herrera done, he will be number 8 role. Shaw main target as LB but next bid will be if final bid. Vermaelen will come in as CB if Arsenal will agree reasonable price. Our top targets for CB are unavailable or won't come as no UCL. Between is proven in EPL and a leader we desperately lack at the back. Next summer we will bid for Hummels probably. Winger will be coming in, one of Robben, Sanchez or Depay most likely. No number 6 this window. All being well Strootman will sign in January. His lack of mobility being offset by Herrera. Would peep b happy with Shaw, Herrera, Vermaelen and Depay for 85 mil?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 18:17:26
Think the likes of a De Jong could come in as a stop gap experienced player for a reasonable amount of money , especially if we're going to wait for Strootman

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I don't think we will sign shaw as 40 mil is far to much and I don't see us going that far for him and Vermaelen got injured last match so won't pass a medical even if he can I pray we don't go for him as he is injury prone

Agree0 Disagree0

RedDevil0690, I bet you wish you had held your tongue for half hour longer :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with bilko De Jong will protect the back four give us that steel and aggressiveness we have lacked since keano. Then strootman if fully recovered will come in January

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 18:03:40
Who's next on the cards then lads? Shaw? Vermaelen? De Vrij? Konoplyanka? Blind?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we will sign an LB and a CB at the very least.

We should not pay more than 30 million pounds for Shaw.

Hummels won't be joining imo and Vermaelen is not good enough fitness wise and quality wise.

Not sure who our other targets are for these positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Blind, really? you must be blind if you want him playing for us

Agree0 Disagree0

For left back I would go swiss and sign the Wolfsburg left back I really don't see us getting shaw now the price tag is 40 mil that is just stupid, maybe de drij read somewhere betting has been stopped for him, I would rather someone else thou

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw next 27m rising to 31 appears the rumour, medical tonight but more likely tomorrow

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 17:59:44
Delighted with the signing of Ander Herrera, I see him fitting into LvG's system very well. He will bring great energy to the midfield but also use the ball very well, break forward from deep to join the attack and hopefully pitch in with some goals. A new defensive minded midfielder next to him, along with a left back and centre back would make me happy and confident going into the new season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 17:59:00
Cngrts to all the united fans let hope its the begining of a new era

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 17:57:00
Welcome Ander Herrera! Great to see we have finally got a top class cm. If we can get 2 more signing in before the end of the window then I think we can look foreward to a very good season IMO. If anyone fancies a laigh go have a read on the liverpool page, the tables have turned, they may be stuck with Chewy Suarez for a few more months. A few months ago they were laughing at us. Anyway let's hope we can get the players in we need and start looking forward to next season :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 17:53:31
delighted with the herrera signing, hope now a lot of man utd fans will start to have some faith in woody and not be so quick to jump on the blokes back just because of one disaster of a summer, he got us mata, he's got us herrera, next please :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Still not all convinced by Woodward. Mata's transfer was completed by a 'third party' and Herrera has paid his termination fee. One of the only things that Woodward may have done with both of these transfers is to actually free up the money

Eds, do you know how much of a part he would have played in the Herrera contract termination if any?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sheesh Bennett, what do you want? Do you really think Herrera paid his release clause? I, not a Woodward fan but he got it done, give the bloke some credit this time

Agree0 Disagree0

May not have come out right the way I phrased it but can't have taken much on the part of Woodward to free up the funds to complete the Herrera deal. I do realise he hasn't paid his own release clause and we have provided the money but how much does that actually take? I appreciate that there will have been some background work done but because of previous dealings I don't feel as if I can trust that he has been the major driving force behind this signing

Think it'll take a few more signings before I really start to believe in Woodward

Agree0 Disagree0

Bennett, and if Shaw signs?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jun 2014 17:45:40

Turns out the somehow not very sensible suggestions that Ander has to buy himself out of his contract weren't that far off the mark after all! Am so excited about the prospect of an actual midfield next season. Just get Carvalho to shield the back 4 and we already have sufficient fire power upfront to get us back in Europe

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Actually, the termination clause has been paid.}

Ed, is the €36m amount reported in the press accurate? Thanks.

26 Jun 2014 16:38:26
Ed002, do you have any insight into James Rodriguez? Are there teams interested (including united) and would Monaco be open to a sale? Thanks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing right now.}

26 Jun 2014 16:30:02
The Evra extension looks more sensible by the day. Just smother him in BBQ sauce and match him up against Suarez and we have a real party on our hands!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 16:13:09
according to 'slysports' ander herrera 'does' want to join, terms and things have been agreed, but because of region he was born and ath bilbao only field basque born players, bilbao don't want him to go and are playing hard ball! apparently the same kinda situation happened when martinez left for bayern? just might mean stumping up alittle more cash unfortunately for us? would I be about right ed's?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Yes Bilbao want a bit more money}

I think somewhere between the £28.8m and the £32m will be agreed. But like we were told, medical and personal terms have been completed.

I think we all need to calm down, we want.news on signings but sensibly the club want to go about there business quietly. In every negotiation there are issues that. Slow things up and the Harera deal is no different.looking at all our reactions towards Woodward (who I am no huge fan of on transfer front) on this you can see exactly why they stay quiet until the actual signing is done.
We will either pay bit more than buy out clause or our financing team will arrange for Harera to have the money to pass on. it has been done many times before by clubs.
Have faith in man u

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 14:04:31
Eds, It may have been done before, but can someone please explain these buyout clauses? We saw it with Suarez and Arsenal last year, now Us and Herrera. Surely you meet the price and the player can go!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I did it earlier and it just got me abuse from the vegetables. So no. Forget everything about "clauses".}

26 Jun 2014 13:34:41
Can any of the eds clarify the situation with Herrera? It was explained to me that if the release clause is activated, it is up to the player if he wants to move or not, therefore the only person that can reject the transfer is Herrera. How is it possible that they can reject the activation of Herrera's release clause? Wouldn't that fall under some form of a breach of contract especially if the player wants the move?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Someone was teasing you about what a "release clause" is. Just ignore everything about "clauses".}

What if Herrera is on my Christmas list ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no reason a deal can't be done.}

On a less depressing note, the coach of belgium has said that he will rotate the squad and give some of the youngsters a chance. So adnan might get his world cup debut. Hope he does well.

Sydney maybe this will help you understand the konoplanka( spelling) deal. He had.medical etc, personal terms but the.club 'rejects' the bid :)
Herrera will be a united player, but not for.a "bargain" ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't care if he's a bargain or not, as long as he becomes a MU player I will be happy.

That's the spirit Sydney, it's not our money so who cares if we don't get bargains.

carloto,

Agree 100%, the people on here who talk like it is their own money that the club are spending are ridiculous.

Funniest thing is, the same people who complain that the club don't buy anyone then moan when we pay what a club is asking.

If by the time he leaves united we've extended our league wins over you and caught you up in European cups its a bargain.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carloto and GDS2 of course it's "our" money! Do you get in to Old Trafford free? Are all the other commercial spin offs free? Have a nice day.

Patrick,

So would you rather 'your' money go to pay off debt or on buying players mate? Once you hand over that money you know it's not yours anymore and you have no say in how it is spent don't you? Nobody forces you to pay anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

No Patrick it's the Glazers money and they can spend it on paying off debt, fast cars and loose woman or players.

mancity confirms Fernando deal. and other clubs also confirming signings. meanwhile we are just CONFIDENT of. signing Herrera.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes but 12M for Fernando alone? These people have way too much money. I know a website they could download all of Abba's albums for free.

Loko, brilliant, top joke in a great week for quality banter

I know this is a redundant subject at the minute, I understand that athletic have rejected out bid, can someone please clarify why there were reports yesterday of a medical and a tour around the aon training ground. All seems a bit backward

thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it's plausible that Athletic would allow that without the final fee being agreed. If both parties are confident.

Bilbao reject £29m bid for Herrera. Can we not do anything right in the transfer market at the minute?

So according to Bilbao (via their website) they have rejected a 36million Euro bid from us. This is worrying, what is going on?.

Howerya lads,
Quick question for you guys, EDs, if we supposedly bid £27mil on the last day of the league and that was rejected. And rumours suggesting we've bid or are preparing a bid of £30/34mil which will be rejected as Southampton are holding on for £40mil, why don't we just turn our attention to Moreno? wouldn't cost more than £25mil, and is as highly rated in Spain as Shaw is in England.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jun 2014 08:30:58
If were going to sign a Spanish left back then i'd rather sign Juan Bernat, he looks like he will surpass Moreno in the very near future. Moreno for me hasn't improved in the last 18 months, for such a talented young player that is slightly concerning. that's why considering how much Luke Shaw is going to end up costing I would now be looking to do a deal for one of Ricardo Rodriguez, Layvin Kurzawa or Juan Bernat.

Alright lads, being serious, I haven't seen all that much of Ander Herrera. Obviously I saw him in the Bilbao team that tore us apart 2 years ago, but apart from that, not much.

Also, an interesting amount to pay for a player that isn't touted as one of the best, but still gets rave reviews from what I've read. Perhaps the club is getting with the times? Let's hope so. I'm certainly very optimistic regarding next season, with LvG being an obvious attraction for a number of quality players. Wouldn't surprise me to see young Depay make his way to OT too. If only we had CL next season.

So what is Herrera like as a player? Is he a number 6, 8 or 10?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is mould of fabregas with hints of iniesta just a bit inconsistent

Agree0 Disagree0

He is faster than fabregas and better tackler. He has an unbelievable engine on him and beautiful change of direction with speed, a little bit of hazard.

Will run past many a midfielders. I think he is superb.

The big debate!

I believe that the holding midfield position is possibly the most important that we need to fill this summer. In an ideal world we would just pass over £35m to Juventus and take Vidal, however, it has been made clear that it is very unrealistic. The lack of Champions League football is of course an issue, and may prove to be a stumbling block on numerous occasions. I just want to know from the EDS and everyone else who you think should fill this void (realistically)?

- Carrick - If we don't sign a holding midfielder will LvG give MC another run in the United midfield? Personally this shouldn't ever be an option as unfortunately MC's performances have dropped off significantly in the last couple of seasons. I do believe that MC and Fletcher should be retained as squad players, but not first choice.

- Nigel De Jong - Although not the big name and future, I do feel for this season NDJ may well be a realistic option if other avenues are dead ends, so to speak! At least he can hold a position and do the dirty work whilst maintaining possession and allowing our ball players to do their thing in the advanced roles.

- William Carvalho - For me, this is the best realistic option. People are making claim to the price tag, but it bares little relevance to anyone on here. It isn't your money, and I really believe WC possessed EVERYTHING we need in a holding midfielder. He won 6/7 out of 9 player of the months in the Portuguese League last season, which is phenomenal for a holding midfielder. The other day he showed many who had seen little/none of him prior to the WC just how strong and able to hold the position, break up play and retain possession he is.

Other options? On a postcard :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Ideally Vidal would be our prime target. The energy in midfield between him and Herrera would be fantastic. Suitable back ups would Gustavo, Lars Bender and Carvalho. All would be fantastic partners for Herrera IMO}

Yeah, but from what has been said, it seems almost impossible! I really want WC for his dominant presence! At 22 he is only going to get better too! For the importance of the role, I don't actually believe £35m is silly money (in football terms, of course!). You don't win the POFT award that many times, no matter what league it is in, for no reason! His performances must have been uber consistent! He really looked good the other day on the big stage too, seemed to have a cool head on him! Bring him in LvG :-)
