Moving away from the Rooney discussion, happy to see Josh Harrop in the stands with some of our first teamers. LVG certainly knows his way around with the young guns. Josh has been our best reserve player this season.

Deeps.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Moving further away i though lvg's comments about how hard and quick the epl is compared to spain and germany was quite telling.
Lvg tends to play possession football which can be quite slow at times, difficult to do in the epl.
i think that's one of the reasons we ditched the 3-5-2 as you have quite a slow build up which in the epl diesnt really work
its also the reason why good players like kagawa can't cut it in the epl

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I think LVG is an honest man, calls it as he sees it. Can be a bit tedious listening to his philosophy driven conversations, but if given time will sort a few things out from the grassroot level. Same could have been said about Moyes but that's past now. Louis' Ajax team was a thing of joy. The game has changed now though, I hope he sets us right by the time he leaves in 3 yrs. I am counting on him giving our young guns a proper chance.

Deeps.

Agree1 Disagree0

Deeps his ajax team was something special, football had gone a bit stale .
im not sure he is a great manager, 100% a good one and with the the amount of money united will back him with he should do well.
But i think the EPL has even given a manger like lvg a shock

Finally a deeps post I can agree with.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 22:52:19
Good win today. I thought we were very impressive in the first half. Some of our football was excellent and really nice to watch.
From a defensive standpoint, I thought we were good, considering that the back four had never played together before in a competitive match.

I can see us winning the next two games; and then we play Chelsea. By that time, we should be stronger all round, and have plenty of confidence.

All in all a good win today. I just hope the injury to Herrera is nothing to worry about because him and Blind are forming an excellent partnership in the middle of the park that will only get better the more they play together.

Bring on Everton!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Our attacking play looks good which is no surprise with the players we have but our back 4 is a concern costa will be licking his lips.
attack might be the best form of defense this season

I know I'll get bashed for this, but I can't wait to see the next 3 games with Mata in the team instead of Rooney. For me it has to be the same personel as today, if all fit, but with Mata in and playing a 4312 formation. Round pegs in round holes.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

27 Sep 2014 20:00:24
Agreed. Regardless of who starts in the front 2 I would like to see Mata given a run in the no. 10 spot as I think he's got the technique, first touch and passing ability to play the role more naturally than Wayne. If he does well i'd like to see Rooney come back into a strikers role.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not having Rooney as an option for the next three games, especially the Chelsea game, can't be a good thing for United. However I do agree that we might see a more balanced offense with Mata presumably taking his spot. Fortunately United is stacked in Rooney's position. Hoping Januzaj gets some game time in the next few matches.

Agree1 Disagree0

Brendan, how are you doing? I made the same point further down the page. I am really looking forward to seeing the big man have to sit a few games out. Then perhaps his groupies will realise he is not the messiah

Agree1 Disagree1

Or may be the "Anyone but Rooney" groupies will finally see that he is not the problem and we don't look as potent without him in the side. Only time will tell Tony!

Deeps

27 Sep 2014 22:45:54
Yeah saw it after I posted mine, I'm better than I was last Sunday evening. Think you have upset Deeps though :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know if anyone noticed mata played the first 3 games our attack and fluid play wasnt great .
he got subbed against qpr which was our best performance .
dropped last week when i thought our attacking play at least looked good .
was left on the bench again today when our attacking play looked good.
so the people who can't wait to see him in the next 3 games must of missed the first 3
Attacking wise united have looked better with out him .
That said he's a good player i hope he wreaks the spot

Agree3 Disagree5

Jred
Good job comparing the first 3 games with the recent three. I'm sure nothing except mata was different about the team in this comparison. Not hererra, blind, falcao, adm, rafael. Excellent comparison

Agree2 Disagree0

Jred. Agreed! Here's a first! Haha. But you're right. I thought Rooney was one of our best players until that stupid challenge.
I am interested to see how mata will get on, a player who I don't rate. But let's see what happens.
Rooney scored a superb goal and chased everything yesterday, yet still we have people going on and on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata will do great in the games we are on top and have lots of possession .
i think rooney will be a big miss in the chelsea game

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 19:32:49
That dummy by welbeck before the ox goal was divine.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Ha, I knew we would see a post about this. Yeah the awareness to make that kind of pass was incredible.

Agree2 Disagree0

I love the fact welbecks best bit of play was not touching the ball

Agree3 Disagree1

Didn't get a mention on motd!! The new Pele missed the ball completely from 5 yards!!
Gcu must be laughing his head off!!

27 Sep 2014 17:56:58
Well,
This is going to be a hell of a season.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

27 Sep 2014 19:57:01
Nick,

You are right it is, hopefully ending in a top 4 finish. West ham are a good side, they proved that last week. We are not above all of the teams we should need to be above to finish top 4 and we have one point more than we had last season under moyes (people seemed to think this was a fair stat last week so should be this week as well).

We need to improve defensively and I would prefer a few more easy wins but if we start getting a bit of a run together of home wins people will start to realise they can't come and get points and old Trafford. I actually thought we defended quite well today, west ham are tall and physical up front and I thought McNair and rojo dealt with that quite well.

Agree1 Disagree0

Our defense was immense today. A new player and a very young one stood on their feet.

Our main problem with defense is mor mental than anything else.
I'm not saying that they're great, but they're probably good enough to keep clean sheets again the teams we played so far.

From next week our real chalenges will start, with Everton. Which I hope we do enough to beat them at home.

What really matter is that we got the win. We really needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 17:06:02
McNair got us 3 points to be honest.

How crucial was that headed clearance ?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

27 Sep 2014 17:24:36
Fully agree. We have seen united concede in such situations. Luck or skill or anything.
We just need those

Agree2 Disagree0

Extremely. He had a solid game and looked composed throughout. And for partnering Rojo in the center of defense against a physical team like West Ham? Great debut. Also I felt Rafael was excellent today. Hopefully silenced some of the critics he has on here.

Agree8 Disagree0

Agree Ruud.

Both Rafa and McNair were good.

Shaw was decent and I'm sure he'll get better.

Rojo too was decent, his pace allows him to venture forward a bit.

Agree1 Disagree0

Rafael & Herrera again looked great. Not sure if Nolan was offside.

I was surprised with West Ham, they weren't as physical as usual and this helped. McNair did very well especially as he had cramp.

Nobody had a shocker, but we still look poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually ADM was the worst player on the pitch today, his end product was shocking.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 19:40:17
I hope he got a huge pat on the back from LVG, very very good debut. especially coming into a team struggling defensively.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 19:50:22
Beast,

Nolan was offside.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 19:59:12
Beast,

I don't think we looked poor going forward or at the back today to be honest. We still look a bit shaky at times and nervy when we lose a lead, but the confidence will gradually come back, we are quite close to where we want to be now, 2 home wins in a row and another home game against a struggling Everton side who play in Russia on Thursday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok Cheers GDS2, looked on from my angle - fine margins.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was good how we held on. The league is so tight aside from Chelsea and we have them in 3 games time when hopefully confidence and defenders have returned.

I know it will take time, just a shame we threw away points at the start.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 17:03:28
well could that be the turning point in our season. A very gritty disciplined display when down to 10 men, and now rooney to miss the next 3 games. It will be interesting to see if VG goes for a straight swap with Mata or a change of formation slightly and push Januzaj in there to give us a little more width.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Surely Mata comes on in either scenario, no? I suppose that would be more of a post for the 'Teams' page.
Regardless though, for 'Banter' sake:
I think if Mata ISN'T on the team-sheet next Saturday, then we'll all get a better idea of how LVG sees Mata fitting in (or not. )

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 17:01:25
Showed more team spirit in that second half than we have since Fergie retired. Let's give some credit to captain fantastic who fired up the whole team by selflessly sacrificing himself to save us from defeat. Oh wait, you mean he actually just lashed out again and kicked another player because he was having a wee tantrum? Ah, that sounds more like the Rooney we all know and love.

Much credit to our two centre backs. Coped very well with all the rough housing and did brilliant for two lads that have never played together. Hopefully Mata can step up over the next few games and convince LVG that the captain doesn't deserve privileges if he's incapable of leading or putting the interests of the team before his own petty rages.

(cue standard: but Roy Keane did it too defence)

Believable1 Unbelievable4

It was extremely irresponsible of Rooney.

He did something similar against Montenegro and clearly hasn't learned anything.

Thats not how to you make a professional tactical tackle.

Agree1 Disagree1

You can almost taste the bitterness .

Agree4 Disagree5

But roy keane did it too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny

I'm looking forward to seeing us play 3 games without him I think we may see a lot more fluency

Agree0 Disagree5

His first straight RED in United colors. Stupid what he did, but the usual stuff. Did anyone mention his first half performance or his goal? I heard we had a broadcasting blackout then. He took one for the team albeit with poor execution, yet gets called selfish. The "Anyone but Rooney" groupies are in full swing! Good job folks, backing your captain.

Deeps.

Agree5 Disagree6

{Ed007's Note - (clap)

Deeps

You can't defend that. It wasnt poor execution. It was a lash out. That's not what you expect from your captain.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 18:31:27
Very stupid of him indeed.

Mainly because up until then he was arguably our best player (along with Herrera and Rafa), scored a good goal and was involved in every attack.

But yeah Roy Keane was the same. Only get it with the passionate player.

Agree1 Disagree1

Rooney had a decent first half, but he let the whole side down with his petulance. He didn't 'take one for the team'. He threw a tantrum because we didn't get a free, and lashed out at the first possible opportunity. And this isn't the first time he has kicked out at player like this. He's done it a few times over the last few seasons, but refs have been lenient.

The captain is supposed to lead by example, and show the younger lads desire and composure on the pitch. Rooney may be 28, but he still plays like a toddler going through teething tantrums. We really needed a win today, and our captain nearly cost us the game because he let his anger get the better of him. The lad nearly has a fit every time a decision doesn't go his way, and I couldn't think of many senior players in the squad who are a worse role model on the pitch.

Agree1 Disagree2

I'm not Rooneys biggest fan, but I genuinely think he thought he would get booked for breaking up play. He was definitely not sulking or being petulant. He was stupid and didn't execute what he wanted to do properly. They were countering and he thought it was the right thing to do, stupid, but not selfish.

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Sep 2014 20:03:32
He was clearly just trying to break up the play and take a booking for the team and went too high with the tackle. He was stupid but it was nothing more and nothing less than that. anyone saying otherwise either has a vendetta against Rooney or just likes to moan.

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Sep 2014 20:48:41
All players make mistakes, Rooney included. Luckily he does a lot of good too. He does lash out, a lot less often these days but people seem to remember it better when it comes to Rooney.

Agree2 Disagree1

This is where we view things differently. It was a poor execution of a cynical foul. The handball preceding the incident had nothing to do with Wayne, not sure why he would throw a tantrum? It was meant to be a trip, still stupid. But it does not justify how people have come out of the bushes to have a moan at it and say how happy are they to not see him for 3 games. I didn't see them talking about his goal or first half performance. The good comes with the bad, if you only bleat about the bad it smacks of an agenda. I am not surprised, some of "these" posters have wanted him gone for 2 seasons now.

Deeps.

Agree1 Disagree2

27 Sep 2014 21:31:02
Hope you don't mean me Deeps? I don't back Rooney as captain, I back the team 100% though.

Agree2 Disagree0

Deeps, watch the incident again. Rooney sees the handball, waves his arm in the air, and when it isn't given he runs as fast as he can and kicks the lad as hard as he can. That isn't a tactical trip, it's an immature man-child kicking someone because things didn't go his way. And this is the person who has been singled out as the 'man' to lead our club.

I'll fully admit that I think the club would be better off to be rid of Rooney. For his wages would could bring in a real world beater instead of a player who blows hot and cold, and at the age of 28 still isn't entirely sure what his best position is. And yes, I'm hoping that Mata can really step up and show us how good RVP and Falcao can be with a proper number 10 behind them.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Sep 2014 22:11:40
Danny,

Who scored the first goal mate? Must have missed that in your review.

Agree1 Disagree0

Danny, if you ever give the man credit for anything good that he does on the pitch, I will take your opinions on him with a lot more seriousness. Unfortunately you seem to be butt hurt with Wayne's past transgressions, much like KLOOT. So we can never have a reasoned debate on this. Btw, just so you know, he has 3 goals and 2 assists from 6 games. He is anything but the problem. I want Mata to do well but no so because Wayne gets showed up but because the team must do well. I like your posts, let's keep it at this. I would like to see the revisionism when Wayne calls it a day. I am sure you will be one of them.

Brendan, we always come to a dead end and I can co exist with your "anyone but Rooney" stance. First Kags then Mata and it will continue. So I will not talk about this anymore

Deeps.

Agree1 Disagree0

Btw, Lampard scored four goals in the last week. He must be the best player in the league.

There's no fear of revisionism from me with Rooney. Perhaps the most naturally gifted player at the club since Best, but he failed to work hard enough at refining his game or focusing on a clearly defined role. What we have is a talented player who will always contribute in the final third, but plays without any positional or tactical nous. He isn't sure where he should be playing, successive managers (club and national) aren't sure what his best position is, and he will ultimately go down as unfulfilled potential.

Agree0 Disagree2

27 Sep 2014 22:48:21
Awww Deeps has taken his ball in. I'm happy to exist with your 'Rooney instead of anyone' stance too fella.

Agree1 Disagree1

Yet successive managers, all of them had him as their main man! You must know something they clearly don't. Ohh well he couldn't nail a fixed position for himself in the squad, but is 3rd on our all time goal scores list. So much for throwing his talent away. Anyways enough of this, I can entertain you if you want to have a discussion on naked women and tulips

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup Brendan mate! As it is watching Rooney every game till he calls it a day while playing for our club must be a tough experience for you. How those prophecies were ripped to shreds buddy! Won't give you more grief! Tada

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

It sounds like our own fans are happy rooney got a red card.
Very strange but that's the spoilt modern day fan god knows what you would of made of some of the players from the 80s

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I said after the 2006 World Cup Rooney should have told England he wasn't available for selection, just like Beckham before him, Rooney has been blamed for England's problems for years and now sections of the Utd support are just as bad as England fans. Others are forgiven for doing everything Rooney is chastised for.}

28 Sep 2014 12:48:11
It's not difficult watching Deeps, as I support everyone on the pitch 100%, doesn't mean that off it I am happy with every player though. I suppose it depends how much the club mean to you. If, you grew up just a few miles from the ground and were surrounded by it day in and day out, in school and out, and would have given your right testicle to play for them then a player doing what he has twice is unforgiveable. No matter what you think of him on the pitch. In that sense I agreed with K loot, even if he ranted a lot :-)

I watched Rooney 10 on mutv last week and seeing him when he signed, it is a huge shame he turned out like he did, and never became what we all dreamed he would.

Agree5 Disagree3

Brendan
that was a load of balls when kloot spouted it and its a load of balls when youve tried it.
Its actually an insult to every die hard united fan that doesn't live 5 minutes from OT

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan, I hope you haven't forgiven Best, Keane, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo . Double standards mate!

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2014 16:52:13
It's not an insult in the slightest, you can be a huge United supporter, and i have no problem with out of town/country supporters, unlike some. But, for me, unless you have grown up immersed in the club and grown up along side other local united/city supporters and the huge rivalry that it brings, i don't feel you can understand it fully.

My mum is from Galway in Ireland, and loves Gaelic football and hurling. Therefore, I have always supported Galway the same as United supporters from outside Manchester support United. But, I would never say that I understand Galway, the rivalries and the club the same as someone who has grown up in Galway, immersed in it and living and breathing it.

Also, any player who disrespects the club and supporters, loses my respect, but not my support when they run out onto the field, same as Rooney. The players you mention all lost my respect at sometime, I can kind of understand Ronaldo wanting to go to Real even if I was pissed at the time. I would add Ferdinand to that list too.

Agree1 Disagree2

Brendan
Its a massive insult.
And your quite right you don't understand .

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't agree with you Brendan, not in the slightest! If you think someone living outside Manchester will not "fully" understand, then you are completely mistaken. I don't even wanna explain why. But that's alright. You won't probably understand what and how millions of fans like me living outside United feel what we do for the club. It's a way of life, that's it.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2014 18:15:38
A massive insult? Come off it Jred, you must live in your own little bubble if you think that is an insult. I'm not saying anyone is any less of a United fan for living outside Manchester and I'm not saying they don't love the club. But having not been there, grown up with it, lived it, breathed it, taken socks off your die hard city fan mates from early school upwards etc, it is not the same experience, like it or not.

Agree1 Disagree0

Brendan
That happens all over the country pal.
United have die hard fans all over the world .
Do you really think that only happens in manchester?
Do you honestly think the club means more to a person based on where there born .
I honestly can't believe your views and how ignorant they are

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan
Its a massive insult .
I followed united through the 70s and 80s home and away I've followed them across europe through the good and the bad.
And to have someone claim the club means more to them because of where there born or grew up is insulting .

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2014 19:41:04
The 'I suppose it depends how much the club mean to you' bit wasn't anything to do with where you live or grew up, that was just a statement my good man. I'm not saying that if you are a southern red, the club means less to you than a kid in Stretford. All I am saying is that people from elsewhere, growing up with mates and colleagues who are Birmingham fans, Tottenham fans, Newcastle fans, LA Galaxy fans, is not the same as a United fan growing up in Manchester with City fan mates, or aLiverpool fan growing up in Liverpool with Everton mates etc. That huge rivalry is missing, those years of living n breathing the joy and horror of the derby, going to OT to watch the reserves just because you wanted to see United, having football award ceremonies held at OT and Maine Rd and being so excited by it, just everything revolving around United because that is all anyone cared about and all City fans cared about was City and they felt the same.

This isn't a rant against any United fans, it is just my views as always. I can imagine supporting NY Yankees and understanding fully the rivalry etc between them and Boston or whatever. Unless I lived there and grew up there, I could never fully understand and have experienced it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan
Where i live everyone either supports liverpool or united and its tribal.
you fight at school about in the pubs as you get older and then at work .
but i wouldn't expect you to understand that rivalry .

But rivalries have little to do with your original point of . "I suppose it depends how much the club mean to you. If, you grew up just a few miles from the ground etc etc "
United means just as much to some people outside of Manchester as thoughts in it and vice versa.
But to be honest the rivalry of the 70s and 80s are long gone, its the age of prawn sandwich fan, fans who have only know success

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Sep 2014 21:05:07
Those 2 statements weren't to go together, 2nd part was a general statement, I agree with your last sentence fella, today's younger supporters are 'generally' spoilt brats, not all though.

Only thing is van persie has been chosen ahead of Mata. That's really should be evaluate with open mind with our favourism by lvg

Agree2 Disagree1

Rodio, how has Rvp been picked over mata? If anything it's rooney picked over mata, falcao and rvp link up well together and in 2 starts together they have 2 goals and 2 assists between them

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 11:02:21
I'm not sure if anybody else has pointed this out yet, but one of the benefits of bringing in LVG was meant to be that he would get the best out of RVP - do we chalk this up as yet another failure or is it too soon to tell?

RVP at the world cup was very poor under the so called management of LVG, his performances this season have been very poor. Hopefully he will play well today and shut me up on this point, but it is one thing that hasn't really been talked about considering at the time of signing LVG, every man and his dog was banging on about their "special" relationship.

Obviously the major blame needs to sit with RVP here, but just another seemingly small thing to look out for because I am confident the manager would have campaigned on this when being interviewed for the job. I know a lot of us were excited about this match up. Another notch in the "BS Column" so far for me, they are stacking up fast.

We are witnessing the Utd version of the 'Emperors New Cloths' and only a few of us are calling it for what it really is. It's amazing what fear and desperation forces you to believe. We are being managed by a megalomaniac who is fumbling from one mistake to another.

I am worried about playing West Ham at home, has it really come to this?

Believable0 Unbelievable12

Very balanced list Beast! Not!
So what were you doing last year when we played Everton, wba, Swansea, Sunderland, spurs, city, Liverpool, Newcastle. All at home! Did you come up with the tripe that you're coming out with now? I think you should get a grip and read your ridiculously pathetic posts.
If lvg was that far up rvp's a. e, then why did he choose to make Rooney captain?
If you just try, and I know its difficult, to give lvg more than five matches before you completely dismiss him.
There again, obviously a man who has managed and had great success at Ajax, barca and Bayern must know nothing about football and should be sacked immediately.

Agree6 Disagree1

With each passing day Beast you keep sounding like a bitter old woman. Why so much bile man, is it because LvG sold your soulmate Welbeck?

Agree1 Disagree0

I am just pointing out a simple fact that is being missed amongst the wave of ignorance and desperation.

The fact he has made Rooney captain over RVP further enhances my point that all was not as rosey as we were led to believe between RVP & LVG.

Did you or did you not think RVP would play better under LVG? I have not seen any improvement thus far, he also didn't perform in the world cup.

I'm not criticising you guys for believing in our manager, you shouldn't criticise me for pointing out my accurate observations of the current state of play. I just won't say the rubbish we have been seeing or hearing is what I expect, irrespective of who the manager is.

You guys choose to believe in the master plan. I think he knows where he wants to go for real, but I don't think his Sat Nav works any more.

Agree3 Disagree3

"only a few of us". Yes Beast, and thank God for that.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm not convinced yet but as with Moyes, we have to let things play out and then take a considered view. It's all a bit hectic, lots of new players, a manager who is something of a character, no centre backs.

Beast mate, you are being very judgemental at a very early stage. LVG may turn out to have peaked years ago but it's too early to each that conclusion. As for the lovers, I think you also need to wait and see. He is incredibly sure of himself and it does always seem to be the players fault. A little humility, less talk, and delivery of a run of results would help a lot.

Agree1 Disagree0

Your post is laughable Mr. beast.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't let the judgementals grind you down Beast, your opinion are valued but maybe not agreed with.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 17:19:50
Beast you clearly have an agenda against the manager and are now starting to make yourself look silly.

Having yet another horrendous injury crisis can't be blamed on lvg, but I notice he's shifted the fitness coach, whos been here for 7 years a period which coincides with year on year injury crises.

I'll admit mistakes have been made, but nothing like what you say. You say he has failed, after 6 games that's laughable. It says it all when your getting told to be more positive by nomidfield! No offence to nomidfield intended.

We were left in a mess by fergie, moyes dropped us further into it and it became a huge job. Yet certain people on here think things could be sorted in just 3 months.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2014 17:24:07
You're being a bit dramatic to be honest, LVG hasn't been in charge long enough to warrant a good judgement yet. Especially when you look at the fact we've been without 6-9 influential players from the word go. We look like one of the best teams going forward it's just our defence which let's us down and we haven't invested in that area to the level we want to yet, we know this so why not have a little faith and believe it'll come good?

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast

RVP has 2 goals in 2 games now, you just try and find anything wrong with United, I hate fans like this. He's linking up with falcao better after 2 games than he ever has with rooney. Our target is top 4 yeah? We're above liverpool, Everton, Tottenham. 3 points behind city and just behind arsenal so for me were on track so how can u slag lvg and rvp off all the time? We're struck with injuries at them moment as well

Agree0 Disagree0

Diego

I agree with your view on Beast being very negative, however our points total is very deceiving as the top 6 from last year have all had 2 games at least against each other and we yet to play any of them. I think we are 4 to 5 penults short of where we needed to be at this point given the fixtures.

Next week will be proper test and we shall see how competitive we are. A win against everton will go a long way to confirm we are unto something.

"Moyes imo wasnt the right man for the job but should of been given time .
Lvg should also be given time .
How some can slate moyes and not blame lvg for anything is beyond me

jred"

Jred, I get your point and I too think Moyes was slated too much by many here, but now you are just doing the same to Lvg when you are obviously annoyed at the treatment Moyes got. Double standards? Lvg Has a good record but is a notoriously slow starter, we are just 6 games into the season. Sure, he is in charge but do we really need to get on his back so early? You have said yourself that Moyes wasn't the right man for the job yet you don't like the treatment he got. Now you're doing the same to Lvg.

Lastly, are you going to bring up Moyes every time we lose this season? let's move forward not look backwards.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

We only bought 6 players
And blind won't play cb due to use having to many left sided defenders, after buying 3 left sided defenders.

are we missing a bit of direction ?
Some great signings but when you look at 5 points from the teams we have played and some of our issues i think its been a bit of shambles.

jred

Gav that was my op and i stand by it .
we have made some great signing but its been a poor start ti the season.
Given time lvg will be fine ( which i have said from the start ).
Although i'm far from convinced he is quite as good as some think, but that's just opinions.

as for bringing up moyes, go and read my op again there is no mention of moyes other people have raised the moyes point.

Agree0 Disagree0

On a positive jred, its only taken him 5 games to sort our midfield and attack out. We are playing some great football for the first time in 3 seasons! The midfield is an ongoing job so we have to wait until he turns his attention to our defence. January maybe? Too late to win much, but a CL place was always the aim. 2 more windows!!

Like i said we have made some top signings

This is a really good point. Whatever we think we are now exciting to watch, the last couple of years were pretty dire.

Yes we have signed 6 players. Which means it will take even longer to gel. Lvg is a very slow starter which we all new, I think its a bit early to judge, just like I thought Moyes was judged too early. I think Blind was signed as a Cm not a defender. No doubt Lvg wanted to buy a Cb just like moyes wanted players he didn't get. Our start has been poor but I always expected it to take time. Those who expected 18 points from our first 6 games clearly haven't looked closely at Lvg's record. We have a lot of work to do but i'm happy to be patient with Lvg.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred. so far, his signings have been good. If this continues in January. we'll be ok!

Ed002, if your about I was wondering what your feelings about 3rd party ownership and the apprent end of it now? I value your opinion a on these things and was just wondering what your personal feelings towards these things are.

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - This has come as fall out from UEFA's push in recent years and Italy drawing a line across this summer. It means the majority of part ownership involves South America and the Iberian peninsula in Europe. There will be a fight against this from the South American countries who in many cases have clubs that only exist because of part and third party ownership. An off the top of my head list worth thinking about is (1) There will need to be a fight within FIFA and perhaps regulation changes to stand any chance of this happening. (2) It won't happen overnight - perhaps something like 2018 to have agreement and revised regulation in place and perhaps 2020/2021 to have eased it out of the game. (3) FIFA will be aware that this could fall apart with any pan-European breakaway which will likely involve five or six Iberian clubs that are involved third party ownership of players in their teams, plus a number of other clubs (including two or three from England) who are third party owners elsewhere. (4) There will need to be some sort of trade off as I suspect some teams will look to buying players and then loaning them on long-term contract - the rules have just changed from 1 year to 2 years maximum, but that could increase. (5) Those EPL sides that have third party ownership of players' rights could live without them so, in the big scheme of things, I would not see a major issue there.

So a long way to go.}

Everyone is sharing their thoughts on our defending crisis and our lack of transfers at central area.
Presently considering our injury prone list of defenders, and pace and physicality of game; I can only think of 2 defenders whom we can buy without breaking the bank and falling down to extortionous demands. They will definatly provide much needed strength. Height. injury free nature till now. and they definatly have pace and ball skills in their locker.
The two I want to highlight are Brazilian Dede and dutch van dijk. I will definatly replace smallings with those two. And would keep Jones considering his fighting spirit. So up until summer we can be OK. And
Then I would go all guns blezzing for hummel's.
I think Dede and hummel's would make great partnership. With Jones and dijk equally good. With blakeet as very good option.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Radio, good shout. I think it is important to get two CB's with a good fitness record. Problem we've had is that Evans smalling and Jones have all been very injury prone, so they've never developed properly. Personally, I will sell Evans and smalling in a flash. Neither are up to the required standard. Jones can be a very good defender if he stays clear from injuries. It is time for him to be more intelligent about his game and not dive into everything.
I think vlaar is a no nonsense defender who will give us three years of dependable service.

Agree1 Disagree0

Nomid

The reason Jones dives into stuff is because he gets caught out of position so many times and to recover he makes rash challenges and sometimes stupid fouls outside the box.

You can not build a defense around him and he is squad player. We need two cb's

5 games in, riddled with injuries, not been able to get a good CB and the team needs to gel. yet this is all LVG's fault hey Jred. get a grip, it takes time. judge after 19 games.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

No its not all lvg fault, I've never said it was but he does need to take some of the blame.
If moyes was in charge it would of been all his fault.

Agree1 Disagree3

Jred. It is never all manager's fault. Players have to take the blame too. But at least lvg is sorting midfield and has sorted attack. The defence will be next.
We gave moyes £65m, he went and bought fellaini and mata. Both were not required. He kept Cleverley and other underachievers at the club. He gave nani a 5 year contract. we played dull football with no clue. Yet, everyone was happy to give him time and rightly so. In the end, he turned out to be what we thought all along.
So why are we getting on lvg back after only 5 matches and when he's clearly addressing our issues on and off the pitch?

Agree1 Disagree0

Moyes and lvg made mistakes.
I think it would of been difficult for moyes to come in and rip fergys "title winning " team apart he would of got slated.
i actually think he would of ripped the squad apart this summer
Moyes had a hard start hard games and never got the players he wanted.
And i'm not sure you can blame moyes for that he has said he wanted herrera bale /ronaldo kross and shaw, he got fellaini.
Moyes said from the start the squad wasnt good enough and got slated for it.
What a difference bale shaw and herrera would of made last season.

Imagine this season with out herrera and di maria.

Agree0 Disagree1

Jred, unfortunately Moyes was never going to be the man to take over from the most successful manager in history. He didn't have the pedigree, the record, the winning mentality, the arrogance that is needed for this job.
We gave Moyes £65m and he bought 2 players we didn't need. One of whom, fellaini, will not get into any of the top 4 teams in any league. So would you have been happy to give Moyes another £150m to spend on more aimless players.
I think if we give lvg time, then you'll find out that he will turn this club and team on its head, this was necessary as saf had neglected some aspects and was stuck in his ways, which is to be expected.
Lvg has come in to a new country, new teams, new league. He might not speak the queen's English during his press conferences, but you can see where he's trying to take the team. He will not accept mediocrity.

Agree1 Disagree0

Nomidfield

Spot on

LvG is having to change the mentality from the sentimental, the old shipyard 80's work ethic that was followed by someone who undermined the confidence of the players and the fans, to that of a club that should expect, not hope, to challenge in European finals.

The problem LvG has is that last manager did not start the transition, merely thought he had years to sort it out and some are impatient to get back to the top. It is last seasons mediocrity that isn't helping LvG and if anyone needs time it is LvG to change the club. He has the experience to do it and I can say as someone who has made major changes in philosophy in business I know he needs time and he has my 100% support to do it.

Agree0 Disagree0

No mid
The ed has said moyes had cbs lined up .
Shaw herrera and kross where lined up under moyes. There was also reported interest in di maria.
add the attempts to sign fabergas and bale and i don't have an issue with moyes targets .
Fellaini was a panic buy after missing out fabergas and herrera last summer.
By the way i think fab and herrera would of been great.
Mata was a strange buy as i don't think we need him but you could say the same about falcao, .the argument is maybe you don't turn down the chance to sign top players.

I argued to give moyes time as i thought he had a massive job on his hands, i never bought in to this "title winning " argument although i was far from convinced he was the right man.
Moyes got skated for everything last year from injuries to players not trying.
.but read my op from the other day, i point out the start of the season has been poor (worse than moyes) and the same people who kicked off about moyes from the very first game have got there knickers in a twist.

How bad would we of looked with out di maria ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred you are spot on. If LVG had followed SAF it would be even worse now because Moyes was dealt a bad hand and most people didn't realise it.

Sure he made a lot of mistakes as well and desperation crept in. The football has been worse this season save for the QPR game, but remember Moyes put 4 past Swansea his first game in charge, plus Leverkusen.

All LVG has accomplished is signing a few players that the club couldn't sign last season and over paying - there has been nothing else positive to say so far. CV's don't mean all that, Di Matteo has a CL win, Scholari has a world cup. Its the same as statistics not telling the full story with assists or goals scored.

What Moyes did with Everton could be reasonably argued is just as good as winning the league with Bayern or Barcelona, probably a lot harder actually. Dutch clubs get messed up every season so it wouldn't be too difficult to win that league with good contacts and decent football knowledge. Plus Utd is a different beast to AZ.

Agree1 Disagree3

Wow beast, just wow. You just dismissed so many years of managerial experience and success in just 4-5 lines. Let me also try.

JM just defends and plays horrible football. Then he leaves as soon as he realizes the team may regress.

Pep only manages already built teams which can be managed by anyone

SAF was lucky chelsea, city and Liverpool were poor during most of his reign. His European record is very poor considering his long time as manager.

This is fun

Agree0 Disagree0

The Difference between Moyes and LVG is the football and you know he has a plan. You can't say we don't look amazing going forward, we do.Football under Moyes was terrible, you can't argue with that. All the players mentioned above were moyes targets but they didn't want to play for him, Fabregas is a perfect example. And I have no doubt Di'Maria be at PSG if LVG wasn't here

I have absolutely no doubt that Van Gaal will address the mess we are encountering in defence and once we do it will be Beautiful.

Best of luck to the young lads drafted today I hope they make some people eat their words.

Agree0 Disagree0

Will look good going forward.
Rooney, rvp, falcao, di maria, herrera, mata .
