So we've got to talk about Dave. Given his recent form I struggle to see how he (or his agent) can justify asking for (apparently) £350k a week. Yes, he has been our best player for several seasons. but he has been handsomely rewarded for that not to mention the investment that has been made in coaching him from the less than glorious level he was at in his first season to being one of the best keepers in the world.
Obviously Sanchez's wages will be used as justification but if you accidentally shoot yourself in the left foot you don't purposefully shoot yourself in the right foot to fix things.
Offer him £250k with a big clean sheet bonus and if he doesn't accept that drop him for the last 2 games in favour of Romero and sell him for whatever we can get. Romero is good enough to be first choice next season and whatever transfer fee we get plus his £200k a week wages would be better spent on our defence or midfield.
The madness has to stop we can't let players hold us hostage.

Mulam, Ddg best shot stopper around though not this year. But that apart, he's nowhere near goid enough at commanding his area, communicating with the defence, or distributing the ball. How he can be asking for these wages is beyond me.
How has he remained in goal when we have Romero, who is the best backup gk in the league by a long shot, is beyond me.
I love OGS and will always remember what he did for our club, he's a legend. But this is Manchester United. He needs to come out of Fergie's shadow and be his own man.
The football we've played in the past two months has been as bad as anything I've seen in the past 6 years.
Worse still, the players look disinterested. No passion or urgency. Why is Lukaku staying on the field and Rashford being subed? Why is Matic starting ahead of Mctominay? Why is Pogba still in the team when he keeps insulting our club with transfer demands?
This is when a manager earns his corn, and OGS has shown he is nowhere near suited for the job.

We all here call him "Dave the save". yeah he looks like his confidence is suffering or his mind is elsewhere but I'm inclined to forgive him on account of his brilliance over the last 4 - 5 years. Also, when a keeper makes mistakes the result is potentially a lot more dangerous than if a striker/ midfielder or even a defender errs. I hope he gets over whatever is causing this. It certainly is bad timing from his point of view with regard to negotiations. I'd like him to stay and united to build team in front of him.

Turned on DDG now have we? Doesn’t take much to forget does it, maybe give him our support?
Rashford was subbed because he was feeling his injury, Lukaku was one it our best players today as was Pogba and make no mistake I’m no Pogba fan, mctominay I’d have started ahead of Matic,

We need to stop making decisions base on emotions.

This isn't the 1990s or 2000's, time has moved on and we need to move on. We keep on looking at what Fergie did and how he played and how successful we have been in the past.

We are still in this delusional world that Ole is going to be our saviour or just b3cause he played for United we should appoint him as our manager or just because we beat weak teams in his first 11 or 12 games we should just give him the job.

Where are the likes of Rio, Scholes and Neville now? . Why aren't they opening their mouths and saying this is terrible football.

Why is Phelan back at the club?
Why are we keep going back into the past instead of looking at the top coaches/ directors of this world.

The bottom line is we are on the same level as the teams outside the top 4.

Chelsea will bounce back next year and you just don't know about Arsenal.

We are going to be fighting with the likes of Wolves and Leicester next year.

Leicester and wolves have a better team then us and will most likely will have the same squad with more experience gained from this year and these are the teams we are currently fighting against.

The club really has become a disney land of a club. Anyone that thought we would beat Chelsea today was just having a laugh.

We can't score a goal to save our life. I honestly thought when qe got Ole that atleast he will teach a few of the players how to score a goal but even that is not happening.

We might as well forget about signing Fernandes, Koulibaly, Saul, Rodri and all the the top players we are chasing because frankly speaking they wouldn't be choosing us over the likes of Madrid, City, Bayern, Barcelona and others.

We can't seem to get going lately second half, is it fitness issues, mentality, as a player if you can build yourself up to play for Manchester United, you shouldn't be there,
The subs today were bad management,
Ole is a nice guy but not the man to take us forward,
De gea every keeper will hit a bad patch but his came at a bad time, I wouldn't change him for the last couple of games, his contract and wage issues will sort themselves out, he will stay or he will go, still one of the top keepers in the world.
And I would have stuck greenwood on the bench today.

Agree3 Disagree1

28 Apr 2019 21:55:03
I agree with Bohzman. De Gea has been our best player for years. It is the timing of this slump that is just awful. He is limited in a number of areas, but has been the world's best shot stopper until recent weeks. What that bodes for his future, I don't know. Maybe missing top four is what this club needs instead of thinking we are a few big buys away from being contenders.

28 Apr 2019 22:48:57
Agreed RedMan. But our whole attacking play was non existent in second half. It seems the players lack fitness and energy. No leaders on the field to tell them to up their game.
Matic should never have started. The lacklustre display towards the last 15mins was terrible to watch, even the crowd was quiet. In Fergie time, 80mins comes up and you know we'll throw the kitchen sink at the opposition. Sadly, these days are gone, we just let the game just go along with no fight.
OGS seems to be making some strange decisions and no doubt influenced by our master technician, Phelan.
If this club appoints him as Sporting Director, then we might as well give up now.
Club needs to start acting like a big club not some pathetic and shamboliclly run organization. It really is sad to see.

Agree3 Disagree2

28 Apr 2019 23:01:50
Ddg has been immense for us.
He has been playing well below his best recently and seems to be in a bit of a rut.
Is it because his head is turned is it a lack of concentration is it because he has lost a bit of confidence. I don't doubt his ability but this has been a sustained dip in form and i thought he should have been taken out for a couple of games.
But now in hindsight i would play him in the final 2 games. I doubt he will be over busy and he might regain some confidence.
His contract situation is unclear to me. Does he want to leave? Or is he just holding out for as much as he can get?
If the club and himself can do a deal that both are comfortable with and he wants to stay then that would be ideal. He is a top keeper one of the best in the world maybe even the best for 3 or 4 years and if he wants to play for us then that's great news.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 23:35:18
I don't see how it's toxic or turning on DDG to say that his current form does not warrant us paying him £350k a week.
If DDG was in sales and his sales were down, his average spend per customer was down and his completed sales/ potential customer was down what would happen if he went to his manager and demanded to have his wage almost doubled?
Any of you that can't see the logic here try not doing your job properly for a few months and then ask your boss for a payrise and let me know how that works out.

Agree3 Disagree2

Mulamno,

Our best player for the last 5 years has hit his first real bad patch and the slagging that is going on is incredible. Instead of backing him, you're here chatting about how he's not worth this and that when in reality you have NO idea regarding the finances of the club.

This man has saved our bacon and singlehandedly got us more points than any other player. I fear where we might have finished in previous seasons without him. Get a grip of yourself. Embarrassing.

Agree3 Disagree3

29 Apr 2019 08:56:05
Angelred, I think it's reasonable to have an opinion as to whether the club should agree to DDGs demands of £350k per week or whether that money might be better spent elsewhere.

I for one would be OK with selling DDG and promoting Romero so that we can use these wages and the transfer fee to strengthen other areas of the team. DDG is a decent shot stopper when he's on form but other areas of his game are poor.

That's not me slagging him off, it's just true.

Agree3 Disagree1

29 Apr 2019 09:09:36
He has made a few mistakes recently but he is still our best player. He's the only player to show up week in week out normally. Pay him what he wants.

Agree1 Disagree3

29 Apr 2019 12:20:22
Even if he made no mistakes I'd still think paying a goalkeeper outrageous wages is a mistake.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 12:41:06
Ed002 said he wants to leave and for me, his mistakes are a result of playing like a man who wants to leave. Remember the fax machine malarkey and LVG dropped him for the first few games of the new season because he wasn't focussed. He's been absolutely amazing for us, no one can ever doubt that, but can we move on without him?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 14:14:39
Mancman, where does 350k figure come from? I'm really intrigued to know.

2 completely separate issues. One thing is about moving him on due to contractual issues and if Romero can step up to No.1. By the way, I agree.

The other point, the one I'm trying to make, is that the negativity and slagging taking place because of a few errors is baffling. This guy has been and probably still is our best and most important player. He has hit a rough patch and we have to stand with him as a club as long as he is here because he has earned that.

I'd like everyone to cast their minds back to when he first came into this club and the mistakes he made. Sir Alex was the very 1st to stand with him and see him through. He came out the other end because he is a world class player and a consummate professional. The club and fans should be doing the same right now.

But unfortunately, we have a core set of fans that are just embarrassing and despicable to be honest.

I can understand when fans are annoyed at pogba, martial, shaw, lukaku and others when there is a stretch of poor performances because not many of them have earned the right, IMO.

But Dave the save has saved us so many times and given us saves and games to remember. He had gone above and beyond any other member of this squad in the last 5 years and has most definitely earned the right to be backed at this moment in time.

First of all, he's not the best keeper in the world. I can think of 4 better keepers.
I have always admired his shot stopping ability, on his day, unbeatable. However, I've said from a very early stage that his command of his area is zero. His coming out for crosses is zero. His communication with the defence is poor. And his distribution is one of the worst in the PL.

Feel he is at his level now though, and doing well - i'm happy gor him as he is a good laf. He is pushing on in years and has learnt a lot over his career it seems. TBH he still isn't a virgil van or a Vincent K. we need that kind of quality - now he may be slighty better than what we have (or may not) but i don't think he'd push us to a better level. Good luck to him but we neef world class now.

We have been getting chance after chance after chance to get into the top 4.
This is it, we have been poor against city, wolves and Barcelona for 5 games now.
If we beat Chelsea today, I'm very certain we'll make the top 4.
Arsenal are not making it this year after recent performances against recent sides.
Beat Chelsea by 2 goals too, which is very achievable as they aren't full strength with Kante and odoi out.
The team has to be together for the last 3 games now and give it their all, and they whomsoever wants to pack his bags can leave.

Good morning, long time reader but not posted for a long time. Could I possibly ask any of the eds who have 5 minutes how, in their opinion of course, we fix united. I've read a lot of comments about replacing the squad etc, but this ain't fifa and some of the comments have been unrealistic to say the least. Realistically what's our moves going forward? Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club has made a series of errors with the manager/coach and I really think they made another with OGS. They need a Director of Football from outside the club (not the plan) and they need to resolve a number of issues with the squad (age, wages, certain players).}

28 Apr 2019 09:44:55
Ed002 - who would you go for if you had the power to choose the director or football? I vaguely remember you saying Marcel Bout? I take it Phelan is the one they are going for?

Also same question about the manager? Who would you have gone for if you had the choice?

Thankyou.

{Ed002's Note - I would go for Campos but if they must have an internal appointment then Bout would be the one. Massimiliano Allegri was to become manager and he would still be first pick for me I think.}

The order of events is alarming but not surprising.
The running of Utd on the football side is amateurish but not surprising.

Woodward and the Glazers are completely out of their depth in this area and have still not acted properly upon advice that they have received.

Ole should of stayed interim manager until the right DoF was appointed. Then through that appointment we could select the manager. This is all backwards.

Ole is appointed raises the morale and does well. Then he is awarded the job permanently and now his temporary assistant is to become the DoF.

Were either Ole or Phelan in the clubs thoughts for these positions when Jose was sacked? No must be the answer.

I hope that Ole is a success and I like the way he speaks about Utd, the team and the fans.

However this is not how you run a business the size of Utd.

I honestly know that I could do a better job on the football side myself. Get advice as has been sort, act upon it, understand the type of football that Utd are known for to ensure we get the right appointments, work on developing youth through the academy and supplementing this by buying some of the best young talent around Europe.
Have a 5 year plan to build a squad that we are proud of and knock City and Liverpool off their perch.

We have because me a laughing stock and the joke isn’t over yet. Just hope I am so wrong!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The fans fouled up the chances of getting Allegri getting the job when there was a verbal agreement in place. The club were kowtowing to the fans to give the entirely wrong person the job. The MU fans are very lucky - they keep getting what they want.}

28 Apr 2019 16:07:36
Sounds like a bit of a circus Ed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club should never have taken notice of the "toxics" which led to the club back-tracking on transfers and forcing van Gaal out - which cost them their preferred coach that had already been agreed.}

28 Apr 2019 16:19:29
Fans have every right to vent an opinion, but clearly have no knowledge of how a club should be run on and off the pitch, and the club must be incredibly weak to bow to that pressure knowing they had a good plan in place. So frustrating as can’t see a way out of this now for a while.
