Man Utd become the first team in sport to be valued at $3billion, a huge 57% higher than the next biggest sports team, Dallas Cowboys.

Big hike in the shares recently and the news George Soros (one of the worlds richest men, worth about $19 billion) on board will no doubt stimulate further growth over the next 12 months. Shares jumped from $14 per share to $17, to the lehman that's a big increase and that means good.

So Glazer haters... how do you like those apples!

Believable10 Unbelievable3

We do not dislike the Glazers because they are not good businessman, we dislike them because they saddled us with half a billion of debt.

Sydney!

Agree9 Disagree1

28 Jan 2013 23:11:22
One question, what's Soros upto? He's not a football fan never mind a United fan. His fortune was made on currency speculation, he almost crashed the pound. Probably had a hand in the euro as well. So why is a guy like him buying a bit part stake in United?

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm sorry no nome, but how does the value of the club rising benefit supporters? It's one thing to argue that if the club's profits rise it's a good thing because they could potentially be reinvested in the club. But if United's share price rise this adds nothing. The shares have already been sold and the lion's share of the profits repatriated to Glazer pockets, so if the share price rises all this means is that some investor can make a personal profit if they cash in.

In terms of the overall value of the club rising this is potentially a bad thing. Again the stated value of the club is not the same as annual profits. All it means is that if the Glazers do decide to sell it will require even more money for any perspective owner. Which increases the likelihood that in the event of a sale the buy(ers) would have to resort to a leveraged buyout lumping the club with a potentially vastly greater debt.

Danny Pughnited

Agree3 Disagree1

Ever the optimist Danny!

GDS

Agree1 Disagree0

Unbelievable, the only beneficiaries to improved asset value are the Glazers. That is their aim and at some point when they want to realise it we will see what mess we get next because they only, only I say, had to borrow hundreds of millions in the clubs name. If someone buys us and saddles us with a billion will it be ok then that the club has a £1.9bn asset value?

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

One of the puppets attacking Danny for pointing out the truth. I AM KLOOT

Agree0 Disagree4

Danny, Red Man, to be fair we would always be in danger of a leveraged buyout whether we were bought by the Glazers or not. Any club worth more than half a billion would more than likely need to be a leveraged buyout. The Red Knights were going to do the same. It's unlikely the Glazers will sell to another buyer, they would continue to float shares if anything. That way they will still have full say in the club's decisions and they could still raise cash for their personal businesses.

Sydney!

Kloot,

Where was the 'attack'? I trust I will be banned from the site for such a horrifying outburst.

Just wondering about a very trivial point - do you think that next season RVP will get the number 9 shirt and Fabio will get the number 20 again when he returns to the club?

Fresh!

Believable1 Unbelievable9

If he returns to the club
jred

I'd assume he will return. Especially if he continues to do well. Jred are you sceptical?

Gav

the week after we got beat by palace in the cup and I was told it was likely he would be leaving it was thought that his injuries were maybe not as bad as the player thought, the medical staff weren't sure he had the mental strength for the top
but a lot can change and he is potential a good player but I'm not expecting him back .
jred

Agree0 Disagree1

I think he has done well, especially against the big boys. He will get his chance to compete with Evra next season while Buttner is loaned out. We will then see whoout of the 3 we let go the year after.

Jred

Now you mention it I remember you saying that before. I'd not heard that personally but if it's true I still think if he impresses between now and the summer he will likely be back in the manager's plans. I hope so too as it would be great to see the both of them playing together, to a similar level as what Rafael is showing now.

To lfc and Tel
I don't visit liverpool page but of what I've seen of you guys on the United page, you both have absolutely no idea how to use p.s.
Now I don't want to correct your English on this site but you guys seem to use p.s. in almost all of your posts. So it would be nice to see you using it in the correct manner.
P.S. stands for post script and is used at the end of the letter after you sign your name to mention some important detail which you missed out. Hope this helps and no need to thank me, it was just my duty.

P.S.- I may be wrong. If so then correct me and please post this on LFC page also.

I don't think man utd are in such bad debt as everyone makes out!

Still buying players and apparently will ease into uefa ffp rules

Im not saying what the glazers did was right but they have a good business plan and also 7.5 pr cent is owned by 22nd richest man in the world!

I think we got money for when fergie needs it!

Think we will sign one more player this window!

Also our nike deal is due to be renewed, we could get the best deal in world football!

Nike are the only one's who can afford to pay the sort of money that United are going to want from the next deal. They currently pay £25.1m a season. I think United will want treble that amount this time round and when you look at the Chevy deal they will probably get it.

28 Jan 2013 16:33:42
Replacing Ferdinand with Zouma is all fine and dandy if this was fifa but sadly its not. Imagine how much experience we will be losing in the dressing room this year if you lot had your way, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, Scholes... even rooney.

These guys are all massive influences in the dressing room and I for one wouldn't want to replace them with foreign youngsters who have just shown potential overseas, anything could happen, no matter how good they are they can still get home sick, look at Pique for example.

I'm not saying lets hang onto these players until they fade away to dust, but maybe we should be looking at bringing in experienced players as well as young potential, or a mix of both, like Hummels for example. Anyway food for thought, I'd love to know everyone else's opinions.

Anon

Believable16 Unbelievable1

28 Jan 2013 18:17:43
i agree entirely especially regards zouma there is no need to sign him: vidic, evans, smalling, jones, keane. No point in bringing in another centreback unless its a world class player to replace vidic. MrE

Agree4 Disagree0

I completely agree with you! In Keane, Jones and Smalling we have excellent defender for atleast 10 years! If Rio leaves it would be nice to have someone in likes of Hummels or Subotic, fairly young and have tremendous experience!

Even in Midfield,
Likes of Vidal! Right age and experience!

Red Samurai!

Agree3 Disagree0

If another centre back comes in this summer I think fergie sees jones long term future in midfield.

Agree1 Disagree1

Zouma is still way off to be considered as Ferdinands replacement and has a little of bit of Welbeck Bambi in him, which I assume will go away as he matures. I can't see us signing anyone in the back four but maybe a left back.

On another note, Lyon's left back (can't remember the name) is good player. Mick can probably comment as he is like a scout on so many players.

Do you think Carrick deserves to be United Player of the Year if he continues his consistency? Or Raphael? RVP?

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Certainly, those 3 for me anyways!

Gar

Agree4 Disagree1

It has to be Carrick. Rafael has been exceptional and so as RVP.
We would manage somehow if Raphael is not available and to some extent RVP.
But imagine the current Utd team without Carrick.. That's all I can say

Agree8 Disagree2

I always preferred Donatello!

It's definitely between them 3, I would imagine rvp would get it as it stands but carrick has been just as consistent.

Valencia won it 7 months ago and now people on here would pay for him to leave!

GDS

Agree5 Disagree1

At this stage it's neck and neck between Carrick & RVP imo. Rafael a close 3rd.

Gav

Agree3 Disagree0

Without a doubt it has to be RVP!

I agree those three are the stand outs for the short list but RVP is the most important to our team.

Without him we would be struggling massively, plus he has been the most consistent.

Jono

Agree3 Disagree0

Surely it has to be Nani?

AJH

Agree5 Disagree1

I think it will be RVP and fully deserved because he gives us that extra class but Carrick has been brilliant too and now deserves all the plaudits, easily our best midfielder.
Rafa great would be 3rd for me.

I expect to see all of Ferdinand, Vidic, Cleverley, Valencia, Welbeck & RvP recalled for Southampton. I think Welbeck will play LW. Perhaps Kagawa or even Giggs will play there, but think Welbeck may start. We will have a very good bench that's for sure. Jones, Smalling, Anderson, Kagawa, Giggs, Hernandez should all make the bench. Nani and Scholes may miss out. When Young & Evans returns the manager will have a proper selection headache, Powell needs games too, as does Buttner. What do people think?

Sydney!

Believable5 Unbelievable7

Personally I'd like to see us play with 2 up front. Southampton don't have the strongest CB pairing and I think Welbeck (playing more centrally) alongside RVP could do some real damage. Southampton are a decent side but its not a game the manager should be over thinking so a standard 442 with Valencia/Nani on the right, Kagawa on the left should do a job. Fulham, despite their form, will be a much more awkward task than they were on Sunday so I can see Giggs being rested for then, as he always seems to play well against them at Craven Cottage.

Agree3 Disagree3

I agree with your post syd and Powell definately needs games. One thing I would like to see though is kagawa gettin a couple of games behind the striker so we can see his real talent. I thought it would have been perfect for kagawa to play in the system against fulham at the weekend instead of giggs as it looked like a 4-2-3-1 going forward and worked quite well, that said giggs played brilliant. I jst really want to see kagawa get a chance as he has real creativity and right now I feel he's being wasted IMO.

ed07...

I see that someone put this story on the Celtic page this morning.

Celtic star Victor Wanyama is poised to join "one of the two big clubs in the world" in the very near future, according to the head of the Kenyan Football Association.

The powerful midfielder has found himself linked with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal after a terrific first half of the campaign in the heart of the Hoops' midfield. A number of buccaneering performances, particularly in Celtic's successful Champions League outings, have led to speculation that a January exit from Parkhead beckons, despite Neil Lennon's firm denials.

The 21-year is set to join up with him international teammates next week for a friendly game against Libya, and Kenyan FA president Sam Nyamweya believes that Wanyama could be playing his football away from Glasgow by the time that game kicks off.

"Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world, " Nyamwya said, the Scotsman reports. "It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a powerhouse in football."

Wanyama has taken to life in the SPL with aplomb following his arrival at the club in the summer of 2011, a steal at just £900,000 from Belgian outfit germinal Beerschot.

Has there been any developement since 9?

Thanks

the season for us is shaping out to set us up for a good go at 3 trophies. I just hope we don't suffer injuries and have a fully fit squad to choose from. I think if our key players stay fit and continue as we are we will have a successful season.

As for our wingers, I think nani should start as with him on the pitch more seems to be happening in terms of attacking threat, also he can beat his man unlike the 1 trick pony Valencia. Honestly Valencia used to be soo good before but he seems to run out of ideas and slow our play down. I would rather have welbeck on the wings at this moment of time.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Nani was abolustely shocking against Fulham and that epitomises his perfromances this season. I don't remember him beating a man very often and when he got in good positions his decison mkaing was appalling and his final ball is a joke.

I lost money as usual and did not know Falcao was injured and Bilbao bossed the game. I must say Muniain is incredible and where our wingers can't make a decent pass to save their life this boy has all the tricks on the ball and pace and can sure pick out a pass.

De Marcos is also a very good player and would love to see us doing a double signing and that would for me be a great summer window, plus sell Nani and Lewandowski and I reckon that is us sorted for some time.

GDS

Fabs, Liverpool will have the rest of the season to concentrate on the Europa and 4th spot. Problem is Spurs have just these two things to concentrate on and they have a much bigger and better squad than Liverpool. Arsenal will be knocked out of the UCL in a couple weeks and they will have just the FA Cup and 4th spot to contend with. Then there's Everton who do not have the Europa League to hamper them. Then when May arrives and Liverpool are 7th they will have to fight to keep hold of ratboy who's agent is Pep Guardiola's brother and Pep wants Suarez at Bayern. Add this to the fact Bayern have a huge transfer budget this summer and off Suarez goes. With Liverpool being a poor team and have little money to pay big wages, they will struggle to find a decent player stupid enough to join them. Good news is they still have the exceptional talent that is Andy Carroll.

KEANE SURPRISING MANY AT LEICESTER
Twelve months ago Michael Keane was in the shadow of twin brother Will and playing for the Republic of Ireland. Fast-forward to today and there's a growing buzz around the Manchester United defender as he makes impressive progress on-loan at Leicester City. Pundits and ex-players are taking notice of Keane, now a first-choice for England U19, particularly the way he's smoothly stepped up from low-key U21 football to the intensity of the Championship. Foxes boss Nigel Pearson knows a thing or two about quality centre-halves and if he's willing to stick 19 year-old Keane in the heart of his back four, then it's worth noting. Twin brother Will was being tipped for a United breakthrough this season before his summer knee injury and given Michael's achievements, the pair could be playing together in a Red shirt this time next year.

Keane is almost a cert to make it at United, he will have a few loans first until he has bulked up as much as he can and polished off what little rawness he has. A proper ball playing centre half and will have a great career at the club if he keeps progressing well like he is.

Sydney 100 percent agree. I think Wooton will be sold and Keane is a keeper.

BTW I posted a question for you last night about this goal rush thing. what is the difference between a treble and a trixie.

BTW I have done a pick 10 in the coming games and let's say the payout if it comes in will be interesting and I will offer 5 Real Madrid tickets for the home tie to anyone wanting them LOL.

City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa, Spurs, Stoke, Everton to win and the rest a draw.

Not sure Shahram, a treble is obviously choosing three games (goal rush) or teams to win, lose or draw. Jono will be the best one to ask. I do bets for a little fun, never spend more than £20 a week, usually just £10 on Saturday games. I have done a goal rush (goals galore) for Wednesday. Arsenal, Norwich, Fulham, Everton & Huddersfield. If all teams score in the five games I get £150 back. Worth a tenner. I am a few hundred up this season.

Whats the part about not playing for ireland got to do with it?

Treble is one line with all 3 in one bet, a trixie is 4 lines containing 3 doubles and a treble, so you only need 2 to come in to win something back.

Hope that helps.

I love the £10 accumulators. Sevilla, Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland & Man City win's me £240. Nice bit of pocket money haha.

Nice post OP sounds like he has a top future with us. Imagine Smalling, Jones & Keane all 5 years down the line, great options!

I love hearing about the progress of our loanees so if anyone get's info like this from time to time keep sharing it! Ta

GDS has is spot on with the difference in bet placement being you have to cover all eventualities in the trixie with a new stake (ie 4x the original stake).

Last two windows we've sold these 6 players.
#9 Berbatov, #29 Kuszczak, #32 Diouf, #37 Brady,
#43 James, 41 King, #47 Norwood

And bought in these 6.
#20 van Persie, #21 Henriquez, #25 Powell,
#26 Kagawa #28 Buttner, #00 Zaha

These 10 are currently on loan.
#21 Henriquez, #27 Macheda, #31 Wootton, #33 Bebe
#38 M.Keane, #45 Petrucci, Fabio, Zaha, Giverin, McCullough

These 6 have been recalled due to lack of games on loan.
#30 Brown, #35 Lingard, #40 Amos, #44 McGinty,
#54 Cofie, #55 van Velzen

What players do you think from the U21's will be released
or sold to allow the U18's to move up into the reserves?
I think these 8 will be sold in the summer.......
Macheda, Wootton, Bebe, Amos, McGinty, Cofie, Giverin, Brown

These are the players I think will go on loan in the summer:
Henriquez (Prem), Powell (Champ), Buttner (Prem)
Cole (Champ) Vermijl (Prem), M.Keane (Prem),
Thorpe (Champ) W.Keane (Champ)
See how they do & if they get games. We'll still have enough cover from the youth players
DEF: Jones, Blackett, Veseli, Fornasier.
MID: Lingard, Petrucci, Tunnicliffe, Januzaj, Dælhi.
FWD: van Velzen, Wilson, Lawrence, Byrne.

I haven't a clue who'll we'd buy but if rumours are true it could be something like
DEF: Garay or Zouma
MID: Strootman or Wanyama
FWD: Lewandowski or James Rodriguez
Add that to the already talented Zaha we have recently bought.

We've just got to be very careful who we replace the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Rio, Fletcher & Evra with. If they don't leave/retire this season they def won't be here the
next 2014-15 season.

These are & have been quality players through the years & we need a certain level of quality to replace them with.

Great post and I agree with almost all of it.

I doubt and certainly hope however we don't release Cofie.

last year before injury he was pretty much as prolific as Keane was and Wilson ahs been this year.
